TEXAS TECH FACES FINAL NON-CONFERENCE TUNE-UP WEDNESDAY NIGHT AT NEVADA Texas Tech will face its final non-conference tune-up prior to Big 12 play Wednesday night when the Red Raiders travel for a 9 p.m. CT battle with the Nevada Wolfpack at Virginia Street Gym. RED RAIDERS LOOK TO REBOUND AFTER TOUGH WEEKEND AT RICE Texas Tech dropped consecutive non-conference matches for the first time in the Don Flora era last weekend during the Rice Invitational as the Red Raiders fell in their two Saturday contests against Cal State Northridge and the host Owls. Despite the two losses, Tech is still an impressive 25-5 against non-conference foes under the second-year head coach. The Red Raiders will be looking to win its final non-conference match prior to Big 12 play on Sept. 19 for the second-straight year as Tech defeated North Texas, 3-1, on the same date last year in Denton. UPCOMING SCHEDULE The Red Raiders open Big 12 play Saturday evening when the Kansas Jayhawks travel to Lubbock for a 6 p.m. first serve in the United Spirit Arena. Texas Tech will be looking for its first win in a Big 12 opener since 2007 when the Red Raiders topped Colorado in five sets. The Red Raiders will play three of their first four conference matches in the United Spirit Arena as No. 9 Texas (Sept. 29) and No. 19 Iowa State (Oct. 6) will both travel to Lubbock following a road match at new league member TCU on Sept. 26. THE NEVADA SERIES Texas Tech will be facing Nevada for the first time since 1996 Wednesday evening as the Red Raiders are 2-0 all-time against the Wolfpack. The Red Raiders swept Nevada, 3-0, in each of their previous two meetings, with the most recent being on Aug. 31, 1996, in Reno. Tech also dropped the Wolfpack in straight sets a year earlier in an Oct. 13, 1995 contest in Lubbock. Texas Tech head coach Don Flora has never faced the Wolfpack as a collegiate head coach.
