RED RAIDERS STAY ON THE ROAD TO FACE MISSOURI SATURDAY EVENING Texas Tech plays its second road match this week Saturday evening when the Red Raiders head to Columbia, Mo. to face the Missouri Tigers at 5 p.m. in the Hearnes Center. THE SERIES Tech will be looking for its first win over Missouri since the 2002 season as the Red Raiders have lost 17-straight to the Tigers, who control a 20-11 advantage all-time in the series. After opening the series with 10-straight wins, Tech has failed to defeat the Tigers since taking a four-set victory on Oct. 5, 2002 in Lubbock. The Red Raiders are only 4-10 all-time in Columbia with their last win coming in a 3-0 sweep on Oct. 23, 1999. LOOKING AHEAD The Red Raiders return to the United Spirit Arena next Wednesday to host the Texas A&M Aggies for the final time as a Big 12 Conference member. The match, which will be broadcast locally on Fox News Now, is set for a 6:30 p.m. start. RED RAIDERS THREE WINS SHY OF FIRST WINNING SEASON SINCE 2001 Tech’s magic number to ensure a winning season is at three entering Wednesday night’s match at Texas. Tech still has 11 conference matches left and one non-conference matchup remaining at San Jose State. The Red Raiders’ last winning season came in 2001 when Tech finished 18-14 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. SIXTH MATCH WAS THE CHARM FOR TECH A YEAR AGO The Red Raiders’ first elusive Big 12 win a year ago came in their sixth conference match which should give Tech fans some hope after a 0-5 start so far in league play. Tech defeated Kansas, 3-2, on Oct. 2 in Lubbock for its first conference win since the 2007 season. FLORA MAKING QUICK CHANGES TO TEXAS TECH Prior to his arrival, Texas Tech had only 11 wins over its last three seasons. Don Flora surpassed that total in mid-September. Now, the first-year head coach is aiming to put Tech in the midst of the Big 12 race as the Red Raiders have only won three conference matches during the past three years. After opening the conference schedule with back-to-back matches against ranked opponents, the Red Raiders are in the midst of playing four of their next six matches on the road with home matches against Kansas State and Texas A&M during that span.
