TEXAS TECH FACE IOWA STATE IN FRONT OF NATIONAL TV AUDIENCE

Texas Tech will travel to face Iowa State in front of a national television audience Wednesday night when the Red Raiders and Cyclones battle at 8 p.m. in Hilton Coliseum. The match will air live nationally on ESPNU with Adam Amin calling the action and Maria Taylor providing the color commentary. Tech heads into the match looking to snap a four-match losing streak as the Red Raiders are 8-16 on the year and 1-7 in Big 12 play while Iowa State enters this week 12-6 overall and in a tie for second place in the conference standings with a 6-2 record in league action.

AROUND THE NET • Wednesday night’s match is believed to be Texas Tech’s first-ever volleyball appearance on an ESPN network. This will be

Tech’s fifth television appearance out of seven currently scheduled for this season. • Texas Tech will begin the second half of Big 12 Conference play on the road as the Iowa State match is one of two contests away from Lubbock for the Red Raiders this week. Tech will travel to Morgantown, W.Va., Saturday afternoon for a 12 p.m. CT first serve against West Virginia. • The Red Raiders will be looking to snap a 14-match losing streak to Iowa State on Wednesday as Texas Tech last defeated the Cyclones on Oct. 26, 2006, in a five-set thriller at the United Spirit Arena in Lubbock. Even with the long losing streak, Tech still owns a 20-18 all-time advantage in the series. • The Red Raiders are 10-8 all-time against Iowa State when playing in Ames but have not defeated the Cyclones at Hilton Coliseum since Sept. 25, 2004, which came in a 3-1 victory. Texas Tech’s only Big 12 victory so far this year also came on the road in a 3-2 victory on Oct. 12 at TCU. • One stat to watch Wednesday night is digs as Iowa State and Texas Tech enter this week ranked second and third, respectively, in the Big 12 for the category. The two teams also feature the conference’s top two liberos in Iowa State’s Kristen Hahn and Texas Tech’s Rachel Brummitt. • Despite just one victory during the first half of Big 12 play, the Red Raiders still have a chance to climb the conference standings as only two wins separate the Red Raiders from fifth-place Baylor. • The Red Raiders are coming off a 3-1 loss last Saturday against Baylor where Texas Tech raced out to a 25-16 victory in the first set before the Bears rallied to win the next three sets. It was Tech’s fourth-straight loss dating back to the TCU victory. • Iowa State, meanwhile, is coming off a pair of wins a week ago over then No. 23 Kansas and TCU. The win over the Jayhawks marked Iowa State’s first over a top-25 opponent so far this season.
