• No. 23 Texas Tech returns to the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic in Houston for the ninth time in program history this weekend. The three-day event, hosted at Minute Maid Park, begins at 12 p.m. Friday when the Red Raiders battle No. 9 Houston. Tech will also face No. 6 Louisiana-Lafayette in a noon first pitch on Saturday before closing the weekend with an 11 a.m. start Sunday against No. 18 Arkansas. • Texas Tech is 7-17 all-time in the Houston College Classic as the Red Raiders are in the field for the first time since the 2014 season. • Texas Tech finished 1-2 in its last appearance at the Houston College Classic in 2014, falling to Houston (9-0) and Sam Houston State (10-6) before ending the weekend with a 2-1 victory over No. 10 Rice. • The Red Raiders have faced Houston in seven of their previous eight appearances in the Houston College Classic as the Cougars are 5-2 all-time against Tech in the event. • Texas Tech has faced Louisiana-Lafayette and Arkansas once previously in the Houston College Classic as the Red Raiders dropped both of those games. Tech began its season ranked or receiving votes in four of six preseason polls.
