QUICK HITS • Texas Tech closes its home-and-home series with Abilene Christian Tuesday evening when the Red Raiders travel rough-

ly 170 miles south to face the Wildcats at 6 p.m. in Moody Coliseum. • This will be the second time Texas Tech and Abilene Christian have faced each other in the last week after the Red Raiders took a decisive 3-0 victory on Sept. 3 at the United Spirit Arena. The match marked the first time Tech and ACU had played each other on the volleyball court since 1983. • Breeann David totaled a match-high 17 kills while Aubree Piper added 12 to lead Texas Tech in its first match against ACU this year. Rachel Brummitt also collected 15 digs to help boost a Red Raider defense that held ACU to a .080 hitting percentage, the lowest for a Tech opponent this season. • The Red Raiders are coming off a disappointing weekend at the Cougar Challenge that was hosted by Washington State. Tech defeated Montana, 3-1, in the tournament opener before falling to Washington State, South Dakota and Eastern Washington from there. • Texas Tech will be looking to get back on the winning path Tuesday evening. The Red Raiders have never lost four straight non-conference matches under third year head coach Don Flora. • Abilene Christian is the first of two Texas Tech opponents this week who the Red Raiders will be facing for the second time this season. Tech opens its second-annual Lone Star Showdown at 10:30 a.m. Friday morning against Montana, approximately one week after the Red Raiders delivered the Grizzlies a 3-1 loss at the Cougar Challenge. • The Red Raiders have never played two non-conference opponents twice in a season during the Big 12 era. Tech played both SMU and Grambling State twice during the 1996 and 2011 seasons, going 4-0 in those matches. • Tuesday night’s match with ACU begins a busy stretch for the Red Raiders, who will play a total of six matches within a period of just seven days. Tech also travels to Incarnate Word next Monday in San Antonio before facing Texas State in San Marcos on Tuesday. • Texas Tech enters this week with junior outside hitter Breeann David still leading the Big 12 in kills per set. David, who missed the final two matches of the Cougar Challenge last weekend, is averaging 4.33 kills a set along with a league-best 5.58 points per set. She also ranks second in the conference with 14 service aces and 10th with a .308 hitting percentage. • Rachel Brummitt, who is on pace to snap her single-season digs record from a year ago, also enters this week ranked second in the Big 12 after averaging 5.19 digs per set through the first nine matches of the season. • Texas Tech has found significant success in non-conference action under Don Flora, who has led the Red Raiders to a 30-11 mark in such matches during his two-plus seasons.
