DESPITE YOUTH, RED RAIDERS BOAST YET ANOTHER POTENT OFFENSE After losing half of his lineup due to graduation, Texas Tech head coach Shanon Hays might have been unsure of what to expect from his 2013 team that normally had up to five freshmen starting around the diamond. Thanks in part to seniors Mikey Kenney, Sandy James and Adriana Perez along with emerging freshmen Samantha Camello and Lexie Elkins, the Red Raiders compiled a .301 batting average that ranked 37th in the country and marked just the second time in school history Tech has hit over a .300 clip. In addition, the Red Raiders continued to be one of the more power-oriented teams nationally with 53 home runs (second in Big 12) to go along with a school record 89 doubles. Here’s a look at the offensive school record broke this year: Texas Tech Offensive Record Broken in 2013 Record Total Doubles 89 Walks 223

RED RAIDERS SAY GOODBYE TO WINNINGEST SENIOR CLASS IN SCHOOL HISTORY When the final out was recorded in Texas Tech’s regular season finale win at Baylor in early May, it marked the end of the storied careers of the Red Raider senior class composed of Ashley Brokeshoulder, Emily Cooper, Sandy James, Mikey Kenney and Adriana Perez. Kenney and Brokeshoulder took part in 151 wins during their four years wearing scarlet and black, the most victories for a pair of seniors in school history. James joined the Red Raiders in 2011 after transferring from Angelo State and sitting out one season due to NCAA transfer rules. She was joined a year later by Cooper and Perez, who both transferred from the junior college ranks. Tech advanced to an NCAA Regional three times in the last four years, breaking the program’s previous postseason drought that dated back to the 2001 season.
