Next Lab R&D

AppliedArtificial IntelligenceInfrastructure (AAII)

Partners: Dell, N50, AI Cloud Innovation Center, Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation, The GAME School, The Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law

The ASU AAII Guild delivered three functional prototypes that together span on-premise GPU infrastructure, community legal intelligence, and AI-powered professional development at scale

Across all three projects, the team integrated sevendistinctAImodels, worked across four modalities(text, voice, vision, andmotion), and deployed every workload through a single NVIDIADGXSpark an on-premise GPU platform that the Guild itself built the tooling to operate

The Dell GB-10 (DGX Spark ) is a powerful onpremise AI workstation, but without dedicated tooling it requires direct command-line access to operate — a significant barrier for a team sharing a single machine across multiple projects.

The DGX Control Center solves this with a browser-based self-service platform: selecta model, validateGPUcapacity, spinupan inferenceruntime, andpublishashareable endpointin30to90seconds. Live telemetry streams to the dashboard every two seconds, every deployment is logged, and every Guild project this semester ran through it

Next Lab R&D

TribalLawGuide

Tribal codes, governance frameworks, and healthcare regulations are among the most consequential documents in Native American communities, yet often the hardest to access, typically scattered across unindexed PDFs and physical records

Cedar is a community-centered AI platform that changes this: authorized members upload documents, and any community member can ask a natural-language question and receive a cited, plain-language answer drawn exclusively from what the community has uploaded When relevant content isn't found, Cedar says so because in a legal context, a transparent nonanswer is safer than a confident hallucination.

RemoteTeacherTraining

Project Limba delivers a structured six-weekAI literacycurriculum to educators across Nigeria entirely through WhatsApp Each lesson follows an interactive engagement framework, with messages scheduled to fit around teaching. A LangGraph orchestrator routes each message to one of fourAI personas—Knowledge,Coach,Quiz,or Redirect while the backend runs fully serverless on AWS.

The curriculum was written by an expert team of international educators and technical specialists collectively working together through the N50 Project

Programs

Workshops, events and partnerships

Moonshot Accelerator Cohort

This year, Next Lab successfully graduated from the Moonshot Accelerator Cohort Program. This 9-month program prepares teams to design, strategize, and lead big ideas to address complex societal challenges and position themselves to secure philanthropic funding for their work. Over the course of the program, the Next Lab team designed, developed, iterated on, and presented their proposal for the NextWork: a franchise-like expansion of Next Lab into a global ecosystem of collaborative institutions employing elements of the Next Lab structure, operations and/or model using a customizable toolkit of playbooks, guides, templates, and a digital governance system. Program Coordinator Amanda delivered the NextWork presentation on the program’s final pitch day, receiving positive feedback and acknowledgement from the panel of philanthropic leaders.

Next Lab Volunteer Program

In September 2025, Next Lab officially launched the Next Lab Volunteer Program, giving anyone the chance to directly participate in the Next Lab Guilds and contribute to upskilling projects on a monthly basis. Volunteers select a guild for the month to attend meetings and upskill through an applied project alongside the team. Volunteers also have the opportunity to present at the Next Lab Expo, a new open-house style event held a few times throughout the year for the Next Lab student Guilds to share what they have been creating and exploring Over the course of the year, the Next Lab Volunteer Program has received 70 applicants, with a handful of outstanding participants eventually becoming paid Next Lab Associates.

QSImpact - Skill Challenge

QS Impact – Games for Impact Skill Challenge

Since 2024, Next Lab has been a founding partner of the QS ImpACT Skills Challenge, a global "Games for Good" competition that empowers young people to design digital games addressing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Next Lab's early involvement helped by bringing expertise in game design, sustainability education, and experiential learning to the pilot. Since then: the initiative has grown rapidly, and Next Lab continues as a Partner in the 2025 and 2026 edition.

This year’s QS ImpACT Skills Challenge is the program's third edition and its most impactful to date. Open to young people aged 18–35, the challenge is fully virtual, offering free expert training, hands-on game creation, and the opportunity to build games with real-world SDG impact. This year's cohort included over 160 youth teams representing 44+ nations, resulting in 53 games created and £2,000 in prize money awarded

Programs

QSImpact - Skill Challenge

The 2026 challenge featured two tracks Beginner (No-Code) and Advanced (Coding) yielding 163 games from 28 countries across Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Americas, with Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Hong Kong, and France among the top contributing nations. Winning games included Silvoria – Restoring Ancient Forests (Vietnam) and Water Engine (France), both tackling climate, biodiversity, and water systems through immersive gameplay.

Expert training was delivered across four sessions led by Zynga, Unity Technologies, the University of York, and Ludex AI, totaling over 6 hours of live instruction with 11 external media placements across Nigeria, Uganda, Somaliland, Australia, Ethiopia, and Singapore amplifying the program's reach into influential youth-opportunity networks worldwide.

Looking ahead, QS ImpACT aims to expand the 2027 edition to 60+ countries and 500+ teams with a year-round model — and Next Lab's continued partnership positions the lab at the leading edge of this growing global movement.
