The air hung heavy with the scent of tropical blossoms, their sweet fragrance mingling with the earthy aroma of fertile soil. Insects hummed a rhythmic melody, while golden sunlight danced through the canopy of mango trees, painting the forest floor with dappled light. Each step forward seemed to echo with the whispers of ancestors, as if the very land cradled secrets waiting to be unearthed.

CHAPTER 2 "Echoes of Hope: A Young Girl's Tale of Endurance"

My life shows how strong people can be, even when things are really tough. It's like a light shining in the dark, showing that there's hope even when everything seems hard.

I’m really hate school; kids are bullies and doing mean things most days teachers do nothing It’s just a job.

I miss the joy of going places with my father, The cuddles and love since the tragedy losing my father.

I have a stepfather he treats me ok, but mother and him fighting a lot. I’m with stepfather’s sister, visiting, while up in a mango tree playing with her daughter, this stranger turns up out of the blue to see auntie about her and 2 of her sons to come do some work at his farm.

Clearing the land, I had a crush right then OMG I’m only 8. I was over the hill with joy I liked the look of this old man. something about his presents shouts out that he was a kind man.

I'd do anything to see him again. We returned home later that afternoon, but I couldn't shake this stranger from my mind.

“What's wrong with me? I couldn't focus on anything else.”

School was a challenge; often, mum couldn't afford the 15-peso fare each way for the Hubble, and Mum's garden didn't always yield enough to cover school expenses or even feed us all.

Being teased for not having a uniform all the time made it worse and the bullying at that school.

Kids were cruel to me, and when I did manage to go to school, I'd often get home late, around 8.30PM, because no ride, if I was unlucky not to catch a ride.

Some nights, I had to walk, as there were too many kids and not enough motorbikes. My brother wouldn't come to get me.

To walk with a bag weight about 10kg for 5km in the dark no street lights it was scary at times and if rain Yee. The road is narrow so you got watch don’t get run over, fools with no lights.

CHAPTER 3 "THROUGH INNOCENT EYES: AGLIMPSE INTO RESILIENCE" At home, I'm fortunate if there's even a bit of rice left, but more often than not, they're waiting for me to cook for them, and if there isn't any, they beat me. Too lazy to even get the wood and light the small fire.

The only thing that keeps me going is the thought of the stranger, my future. I take odd jobs to save money, hoping to visit Auntie and catch a glimpse of the man I want in my life, even though he's never seen me.

In our modest dwelling, comprised of merely two rooms and a floor of black earth, we navigate through the rhythms of daily life amidst the essential elements required for survival.

Candlelight dances across the worn surfaces, illuminating our humble existence.

Within these confines, simplicity reigns supreme.

Our meals are prepared over the crackling flames of an open fire, utilizing whatever provisions are within our means.

Bathing becomes an outdoor affair, where the creek at the back serves as our communal bathing spot, shared by others before the water trickles down stream to us.

In our house, our kitchen isn't much of a kitchen at all. It's more like a dark cave, even when the sun is shining outside.

The air always smells like smoke, because we use coconut husks and wood to cook our food.

Sometimes it's so thick you can almost taste it on your tongue.

There's not much in our kitchen. Just a couple of pots—one for cooking rice and another for making soup. But it's not like the soups you see in fancy restaurants.

Ours is made from whatever vegetables we can find, usually just scraps and leftovers. If we're really lucky, we might have a little bit of dried fish to add some flavor, but that's not something we get very often.

It's not a cozy place like you see in storybooks. There are no shiny appliances or colorful decorations. Just bare walls and worn-out pots. But it's where we did gather as a family long ago when father was with us, where we share our meals and our stories. And even though it's not much, it's still home.

Despite the harshness of our living conditions, Our bellies hurt from hunger. We sleep on bits of sawn coconut tree. My hopes remain tethered to the possibility of glimpsing my elusive future Stranger.

Time and again, I make the journey to Aunties place it’s a long way, I have to go into the city buy mulicab then get a jeep another “20 km, remember I’m only nine” now, yearning to catch sight of him, but he remains elusive, like a phantom haunting the edges of my existence.

These years of waiting are etched with the bitter flavor of letdown, each passing day tinged with the sting of unfulfilled hopes.

And amidst it all, I bear the weight of blame for reasons unknown, heaped upon me by my own family simply for existing.

Living among relatives much older than myself, with the youngest being a decade my senior, only serves to compound the weight of their accusations.

Their cruel words cut like knives, slicing through the air with a viciousness that pierces my very soul. But it's their actions that leave the deepest scars, each blow landing with a force that leaves me bruised and battered.

My fragile body trembles under the weight of their violence, the pain so intense that even weeks later, I struggle to draw a breath without it catching in my throat.

How can they do this to their own flesh and blood?

The question echoes in my mind like a relentless drumbeat, a haunting refrain that offers no solace or understanding.

Too often, I find myself doubled over in pain, coughing up blood that tastes like the bitter remnants of their cruelty.

Each blow to my tender stomach serves as a cruel reminder of my perceived worthlessness in their eyes.

I'm only nine years old, yet I bear the weight of their violence as if I were a grown woman. It's all part of their twisted ideology, their allegiance to the NPA, a senseless cycle of brutality that knows no bounds.

Our home, nestled in Sibuland of Negros Oriental, was a modest dwelling with walls worn by time and weathered by the harsh elements of our surroundings.

The air hung heavy with the scent of coconut husks and wood smoke, a constant reminder of our humble existence.

As the stranger's words hung in the air, the shadows in the room seemed to deepen, casting long, ominous shapes across the dirt floor.

I could feel the weight of his gaze upon me, his eyes dark and inscrutable as they bore into my soul.

Outside, the sounds of daily life continued unabated, the distant chatter of neighbors mingling with the soft rustle of leaves in the breeze. But within the confines of our home, there was only silence, broken only by the pounding of my heart as I grappled with the enormity of the stranger's proposition.

I have the body of a grown woman but not the wisdom. The notion of becoming his wife was as foreign to me as the distant stars that glittered in the night sky.

My body, still young, now carried another life inside it. It was strange and scary, knowing that a baby was growing in me. But the thought of bringing a new life into the world gave me a glimmer of hope, even in the darkest times.

The beatings, once every so often and harsh, became more frequent and brutal as time went on.

Each blow seemed to blend into the next, until the pain of my bruises felt no different from the ache in my spirit, both throbbing with a relentless agony that seemed to have no end.

With trembling hands and a heart heavy with sorrow, I made the agonizing decision to flee, to escape the clutches of my tormentor and seek solace in the arms of my family, even though they themselves were capable of cruelty.

The thought of bringing a child into a life tainted by violence and despair was unbearable, a burden too heavy for my fragile shoulders to bear.

And so, with each step, I felt the weight of my unborn child urging me forward, driving me to seek refuge in the only place that still held the promise of hope.

I ran until my legs could carry me no further, my breath coming in ragged gasps as I stumbled through the darkness. Shadows to hide should my tormentor come home find I’m gone, guided only by the dim light of the stars above.

As I reached the highway, my heart pounded with fear and uncertainty. With trembling hands, I approached passing strangers, my voice barely above a whisper as I begged for help, pleading for a fare to take me home.

I was young and scared, the weight of my desperation evident in every tear-streaked face that passed me by.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity of uncertainty, a kind soul took pity on me, offering me help a fare to the sanctuary of my childhood home.

With each passing mile, my anticipation grew, mingled with a sense of dread at what awaited me there.

But despite the fear that gnawed at my heart, I clung to the hope that this journey would mark the beginning of a new chapter, one free from the shadows of my past.

I found no refuge, no shelter from the storm that raged within me.

Despite mum’s best efforts to console me, the wounds inflicted upon my spirit by month of torment refused to heal, leaving me adrift in a sea of sorrow and uncertainty.

And when the inevitable came to pass, when the fragile life within me slipped away at 3 months like a whisper on the wind, I was left with nothing but the bitter taste of grief upon my lips. My Baby my baby.

But even in my darkest hour, I refused to surrender to the despair that threatened to consume me.

I gathered the tattered remnants of my shattered spirit and vowed to rise from the ashes of my pain, stronger and more resilient than ever before.

As I stood there, not sure what to do next, I felt scared but also brave. Even though I didn't have anyone to help me, I knew I had something special inside me, something that could help me get through the tough times.

I remembered that I'm strong, stronger than I thought. So, even though the road ahead seemed hard, I decided to keep going, step by step, because deep down, I knew I could do it.

For even in the depths of my despair, there remained a glimmer of hope, a flicker of light that guided me through the darkness and into the promise of a new day.

Wrapped in a cocoon of shyness, I bury my turmoil deep within, sharing the burdens of my troubled existence with no one.

Back at school, where the halls echoed with laughter and the promise of learning, I felt like a shadow, unseen and unheard.

Even as I sat in class, surrounded by my peers, I carried the weight of my secrets like a heavy burden.

I couldn't bring myself to speak of the horrors I endured at home, afraid of what others might think or say.

So, I remained silent, my lips sealed shut, while the darkness of my reality threatened to consume me from within.

Sometimes, the people from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) come around.

I'm too shy to speak up, so I put on a brave face and tell them everything's fine.

But inside, I'm too scared. I'm scared that one day, when I finally gather the courage to ask for help, they'll turn a blind eye, just like everyone else, leaving me to face the beatings from my brothers all alone.

Navigating the halls of school feels like tiptoeing through a maze of uncertainty. Every step I take is cautious, as if I'm walking on eggshells.

I can feel the weight of their stares bearing down on me, like heavy clouds looming overhead. Whispers follow me like shadows, their words slicing through the air like sharp knives.

CHAPTER 6 "IN THE LIGHT OF LOST SUNSETS" It's a tricky world out there, full of hidden dangers and unseen threats, and I must tread carefully to avoid stumbling into their traps.

The threat of violence looms over me like a dark storm cloud, casting a shadow over my already fragile existence.

Each day feels like walking on a tightrope, never knowing when the ground beneath me might crumble. Yet, in the midst of this uncertainty, I cling to a flicker of hope, a tiny ember glowing in the darkness.

I pray for someone, anyone, to reach out a helping hand and pull me from the depths of despair before it's too late.

The pain of losing my father still consumes me, a gaping void in my heart that no amount of time can fill.

His absence echoes through me, his laughter silenced by the cruel hands of fate. Every day feels like a relentless battle against the emptiness, a void that threatens to swallow me whole.

I beamed up at him, feeling a swell of pride. "Really, Papa?"

In the midst of all the struggles, there's a small glimmer of hope inside me. It's like a tiny flame that refuses to be extinguished, no matter how strong the winds blow.

Even amidst the hardships, I still cling to the dream of seeing that special someone again, the one who made me feel so alive and joyful just by being nearby.
