These are some of the demigods and monsters who range across the troubled landscapes of the Philippines, Japan, China, Singapore, and the United States, and haunt this new collection of short fiction by the author of Recuerdos de Patay and Other Stories. The Elegant Ghost
In The Elegant Ghost, his fifth poetry collection, Carlomar Arcangel Daoana affirms his faith in the poetic language as a capacious medium through which the twin flames of perception and imagination intertwine. Isa siyang premyadong kuwentista, makata, at manunulat ng sanaysay. Nagtuturo din siya ng wika, malikhaing pagsulat, at kultura sa UP Diliman.

Living in Times of Unrest
Bartolome Pasion was born in 1928 to a tenant family in a traditional hacienda in Pampanga province, Philippines. In 1942, at the age of fourteen, he joined the left-wing antiJapanese guerrilla army, and later, the Communist Party of the Philippines (PKP) and its armed wing, the People’s Liberation Army (HMB). Bart Pasion’s life history delves into the lives of those Eric Hobsbawm refers to as “uncommon people … who collectively, if not as individuals … are major historical actors … who make a difference.” Eduardo C. Tadem is convenor, Program on Alternative Development of the University of the Philippines, Center for Integrative and Development Studies.
