Message from Catherine Baxter Chief Operating Officer

Hello team, October is National Safe Work Month and 10 October is World Mental Health Day, a time for all of us to reflect on how we can create a physically and psychologically safe place to work.

This is also a time to reflect on our commitment to safety, which is why in October we’re launching the TGE ‘Lead in Safety’ Strategy.

This strategy is a call to action to look after the safety and wellbeing of all of us. Over the course of the month, you will hear from me and other leaders across the business about the ways in which we’re transforming our approach to safety and how each of you can get involved. I encourage you to participate in the conversation and have your ideas and thoughts heard.

In other news, some of you may have heard that TGE and Strait Link, our independent shipping business, have commenced ‘sailing closer together’. This is a move that will enable us to offer our customers faster, wider and deeper access to the best transport infrastructure to, from and across Tasmania. I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome Geoff Gruebner, who has joined us in the role of Executive General Manager of Strait Link and express my thanks to Ian Ross who has so ably led the team at Strait Link over the last 12 months. Ian and Geoff will be working together on a comprehensive handover plan to ensure a smooth transition. Catherine

TEAM SAFE:

First to

See, First to Act

Safety first at our EV Truck Trial site

In the heart of our EV Truck Trial at Bungarribee, one priority takes precedence above all else: safety.

As construction at the bustling depot continues, the commitment to safety is more important than ever.

Operating within an active depot setting demands a high level of planning and care. Before any construction gets underway, the project team collaborates closely with Bungarribee's HSR and Operational teams. Transparency is key, and everyone onsite is kept in the loop about the planned activities. The goal? To guarantee that the project site meets the highest safety standards and our people are kept safe. But they don’t stop there - all contractors work in designated construction zones separated from the rest of the depot. The team is also installing warning signs and designated walkways to ensure safety for pedestrians following the new layout.

As part of their ongoing commitment to safety, the team is updating their emergency response plans to incorporate EV-specific requirements in line with our TGE Critical Risks

What are our Critical Risks?

TGE operates in a high risk, operationally diverse and dynamic environment. To address and reduce the risk of serious injury and fatality to our people, we have introduced three new Critical Risk Management (CRM) Standards:

- Unauthorised Movement

- Vehicle Pedestrian Movement

- Falling Freight.

Establishing a uniform approach across TGE for these critical risks means we can ensure the highest level of safety for our team members, contractors, visitors, and the public

At TGE we are committed to a culture of genuine care for the health, safety, wellbeing and security of our people and the environment in which we work.

In line with National Safe Work Month and World Mental Health Day, we’re officially launching our new ‘Lead in Safety’ strategy with the call to action, ‘TEAM SAFE: First to See, First to Act’. This is the rally cry that we can all get behind. It means if you see something unsafe, be the first to do something about it – and never walk on by.

Our strategy is all about enabling each and every one of you to get involved in managing safety.

We’ve created new ways of working, including standardised processes and controls. We’ll be giving you the tools, empowerment and responsibility to speak up and take action, no matter your role in the business.

You will hear more about these over the coming weeks from your leaders. Because when it comes to safety, we now do things the TGE way.

Run for mental health

When Linehaul driver Kevin Higgs headed out on his run in Gascoyne, WA, the last thing he expected to see was someone jogging along the desolate highway. Perplexed, he reached out to a fellow driver via radio to ask if he knew what was going on...only to have the runner Brooke McIntosh answer him back!

Kevin and Brooke - a 27-year-old FIFO workerchatted for a while, where Kevin learned that she was running 1,600km over 28 days from Karratha to Perth to raise money for mental health education. Understanding how desolate the area can be, Brooke decided to carry with her a radio so she could talk with truck drivers and anyone else who came along her path.

“Brooke explained that she suffered with mental health issues for many years, and during that time running had been her only escape. Now that she has recovered, she wants to do all she can to help others,” explained Kevin.

Be Well at Rosehill

The team at Rosehill Courier recently took some time out to focus on their health by gathering for a Wellbeing Day.

During the event, the office team participated in some stretching exercises, while the warehouse and driver teams revisited our recent good manual handling techniques training and the benefits of pre-shift warm-ups.

A qualified health practitioner was also on hand to provide confidential health checks, while our Wellbeing partner Sonder provided information on mental, emotional, and daily life stressors, including confidential conversations with a Sonder representative.

“I want to extend a special thank you to all our team members who took the time to get involved, as well as Brad Schutz, Supervisor at the Rosehill depot working with the JB HiFi team, and to Sonja Miller, NSW/ACT State Manager, for making this day possible,” explained John Dunstall, Regional HSW Manager. “Thanks also to our partners Sonder and Hipa for making the event such a success.”

“My daughter is a FIFO worker and has suffered with some mental health challenges too, so Brooke’s story really resonated with me.”

Kevin was so impressed with Brooke’s strength and determination, that he decided to do all he could to help.

“It’s not every day that someone takes a month out of their lives to run almost the length of the WA coastline for charity. I spoke with my manager, who was able to organise a donation from TGE, and reached out to the local paperthey ran a story, which helped raise awareness in the community and some much-needed donations too.”

On behalf of TGE, well done Kevin on taking the time to support such a worthy cause

While Brooke has now completed her run, there is still time to donate to her cause. Donations will go to 20Talk and The Blue Tree Project. For more info visit mycause.com.au.

Sailing closer together

On 25 September we announced that moving forward, TGE and Strait Link will be sailing closer together. By doing so, we can leverage the capacity of our two businesses and bring together the multi-modal power of our network to benefit our customers.

To build on our strong momentum and provide more support from the rest of the Team Global Express Group, going forward the Strait Link business will join our other Australian business units in Operations as part of our COO’s responsibilities. Strait Link will retain its independent governance and company structure as a separate legal entity with their own brand, values, systems and accounts

Welcome Strait Link - you play a vital role in connecting Tasmania to the rest of Australia, and indeed the world!
