House Lange House Esters

Im Jahr 1927 bekam Mies van der Rohe von den Seidenfabrikanten Josef Esters und Hermann Lange den Auftrag zwei Villen in Krefelds Vorstadt zu bauen. In der Zeit zwischen Weißenhofsiedlung und Barcelona-Pavillion entstand ein für die Bauhaus typischer Entwurf für zwei Zwillingshäuser. Bauhaustypisch sind die großzügigen Fensterflächen sowie die ineinandergeschachtelten kubischen Formen. Diese Schlichtheit wird durch eine minimalistische Auswahl an Materialien nocheinmal verstärkt, so bestehen die Gebäude fast ausschließlich aus Backstein, Glas und Holz. Besonders prägnant sind die dabei entstehenden weitläufigen und lichtdurchfluteten Wohnräume der zwei Gebäude. Doch am offensichtlichsten ist der Zusammenhang zwischen Außen- und Innenraum, welcher durch einige Aspekte hervorgerufen wird. Dadurch ist eine klare Differenzierung nicht mehr möglich und so werden vorher nie da gewesene Räume geschaffen. Futuristisch war außerdem die klar durchdachte und von beiden Häusern genutze Gartenanlage. 1930 wurden die Bauarbeiten abgeschlossen, heute sind die Häuser Eigentum der Stadt und werden als Ausstellungsort für Kunst genutzt.

In 1927 Mies van der Rohe was comissioned from Josef Esters and Hermann Lange to build two villas in Krefeld's suburbs. In the period between Weißenhofsiedlung and the Barcelona pavilion a typical Bauhaus design for two twin houses was built. The generous window surfaces as well as the nested cubic forms are Bauhaus typical. This simplicity is reinforced by a minimalistic selection of materials, so the buildings consist almost exclusively of brick, glass and wood. But the most obvious is the connection between outer and inner space, which is evoked by some aspects. As a result, a clear differentiation is no longer possible and thus unprecedented rooms are created. Futuristic was also the well-thought-out garden plant used by both houses. The construction work was completed in 1930; now the houses are the property of the city and are used as an exhibition space for art.

Die Zwillingshäuser weisen drei prägnante Merkmale auf. Die einfache Geometrie in Form von ineinander verschachtelten Kuben und Rechtecken, welche sich auch im Außenbereich ablesen lassen.

(Bild 01.03) Dieser Aspekt wird besonders deutlich bei der Arbeit von John Baldessari, bei dem die Fensterflächen plakativ verdeckt werden. Anhand dieses Werkes kann man ebenfalls den zweiten Aspekt, die großzügen Fensterflächen,ablesen. Die schlichte Ausstanzung der Fensteröffnungen aus der Fassade wird dem Bauhaus-Stil gerecht. Diese sind jedoch nicht willkürlich gewählt,sondern exakt aufeinader abgestimmt. Gemeinsam bilden sie ein Netz aus Sichtachsen, welches das gesamte Gebäude durchdringt. Würde man die außenliegenden Wände weiter ziehen, wäre die Ähnlichkeit zu seinem Entwurf Landhaus aus Backstein unverkennbar.

Modellstudie 1 Kuben Das Modell zeigt Haus Lange in einer abstrahierten Einfachheit. Hierzu wurde das Gebäude in fünf Kuben zerlegt, welche zusammen das Gesamtbild ergeben. Die Variabilität der Anordnung der Volumenkörper wird klar, indem man diese in verschiedenen Ordnungen wieder zusammenfügt und so unterschiedliche Gebäudesituationen schafft.

Landhaus aus Backstein Durch einfache Verlängerung von drei außenliegenden Mauern wird die Ähnlichkeit zu van der Rohes Landhaus aus Backstein deutlich.

Auch in dieser Variante wird die einladende Geste der Mauern dem Betrachter bewusstgemacht.

Fensterlos Das fensterlose Modell ist dem Werk des Künstlers John Baldessari nachempfunden.

Der geschlossene Körper macht deutlich, wie wichtig die immens großen Fensterflächen für die Zwillingsgebäude Lange-Esters sind und wie ein Wegfallen eben dieser das Gesamtbild der Gebäude beeinträchtigt.

Innenwände Das Modell der Innenwände legt den Fokus auf die nicht vorhandene Fassade, die durch eine extremeAuflösung eine starke Transparenz und Leichtigkeit erhält – eben so, als wäre sie überhaupt nicht vorhanden. Dies verstärkt auch den Zusammenhang zwischen Innen- und Außenraum, welche ineinander übergehen und eine klare Trennung nicht mehr zulassen.

Windowless The windowless model is the work of the Artist John Baldessari. Das vorliegende Modell zeigt im annähernd zweidimensionalen Grundriss die Mauern und Fensteröffnungen des Hauses Lange. Markant ist hierbei die Erweiterung dessen als Innenraum, was vorher noch als angelegter Außenraum galt. So sind Grünflächen und Wege jetzt in Form von Mauern Bestandteil des Gebäudekomplexes.

Der zweite Aspekt sind die dargestellten Sichtachsen, welche sich durch die von Mies van der Rohe gewählten Fensteröffnungen und Auslässe ergeben und durch den Garten weitergeleitet werden.

Auch dies verstärkt den Zusammenhang des Aussen- und Innenraums noch einmal.

The present model shows the walls and window openings of the Haus Lange in an approximately two-dimensional floor plan. The extension of the interior is a striking feature, which was previously considered as an exterior space. Thus, green areas and paths are now part of the building complex in the form of walls.

Im diesem Modell sind aus den zweidimensionalen Grundrissmauern dreidimensionale Räume geworden. Der ehemals vorgelagerte Außenbereich ist Teil des Gebäudes und bildet neue spannende Räume.

Die Öffnungen in den so entstehenden Wänden sind Weiterführungen der durch den Bestand gegebenen Sichtachsen, wodurch die Offenheit und der Bezug zur Außenanlage erhalten bleibt. Die durch die sich auffällig oft schneidenden Sichtachsen hervorgehobenen Räume werden zu innenliegenden Grünflächen und greifen so das Thema „Den Außenbereich nach inne holen“ auf und schaffen so vorher nicht dagewesene Raumsituationen.

In this model three-dimensional spaces have emerged from the two-dimensional drawn walls. The former outdoor area is part of the building and forms new exciting spaces. Dieses Modell beschreibt die Endfassung der weiterführenden Analyse des Hauses Lange. Alle vorangegangenen Schritte sind zu diesem Modell zusammengefasst und ergeben ein modulares Steckkastensystem, das nach Belieben verändert und neu gestaltet werden kann.

Die Öffnungen sind so gefertigt, dass Plexiglasscheiben zwischengeschoben werden können.

Somit kann nach Belieben bestimmt werden, welche der Räume den Kaltbereich, und welche einen Warmbereich definieren. Das Dach kommt verstärkend hinzu – einzelne Elemente können Räume überdecken und somit für eine Geschlossenheit sorgen oder jedoch nur Teilbereiche überdecken und damit Überstände, Terrassen, Grünflächen oder auch Innenhöfe definieren.

Im Folgenden sind vier Varianten dargestellt, die eine geringe Auswahl Beispielhaft darstellen:

This model describes the final version of the detailed analysis of Haus Lange. All previous steps are summarized in this model and result in a modular plugin system which can be modified and redesigned at will.

Denkbar ist diese Gesamtsituation auch in urbanem Kontext.

Moriyama House

Das Moriyama House wurde 2005 von Ryue Nishizawa geplant und in einem Vorort Tokyos erbaut.

Das Pojekt ist ein Komplex von zehn zuasammengehörigen Kuben, die alle als Einzelapartements vorgesehen sind. Somit beinhaltet ein jedes eine Küche, Sanitäranlagen und Schlafmöglichkeiten, nicht zwingend konventionell angeordnet - so kann es zum Beispiel sein dass die Nasszellen nur über den Außenraum erreichbar sind.

Die einzelnen Wohnungen sind zwar kompakt gehalten, lassen dem Bewohner jedoch genug Spielraum für eigene Einrichtungsinterpretationen.

Das Besondere an diesem Projekt ist die enge Verbundenheit der Bewohner - durch großzügig gestaltete Höfe und gemeinsam genutzte Parameter kommt sofort ein Gefühl der Zusammengehörigkeit auf und eine „Community“ ensteht. Trotz großzügig gestalteter Fenster geht durch ein ausgeklügeltes System von Sichtachsen niemals das Gefühl der Intimität verloren.

Somit gelingt Nizhizawa der schwierige Spagat zwischen Privatsphäre und Gemeinschaft perfekt.

The Moriyama House was planned in 2005 by Ryue Nishizawa and built in a suburb of Tokyo. The object is a complex of ten associated cubes, all of which are designed as individual apartments. Thus each of them includes a kitchen, sanitary facilities and sleeping facilities, not necessarily arranged conventionally - for example it can be that the wet cells are accessible only through the outer space.

The individual dwellings are kept compact, but allow the occupants enough room for their own furnishing interpretations.

The special feature of this project is the close connection of the residents - through generously designed courtyards and shared parameters, a feeling of belonging together and a „community“ comes immediately. Nizhizawa manages the difficult balancing act between privacy and community perfectly.

Das Moriyama House liegt in einem Vorort Tokyos.

Wie der Lageplan zeigt, gliedert sich die Grundstruktur des Komplexes mit seinen vielen solitären Einzelgebäuden perfekt in das vorstädtische Umfeld ein und wirkt so betrachtet wie ein schon immer da gewesener Teil der Stadt. Gleichzeitig spielt die Aufgeräumtheit und Klarheit der Kuben gegen diesen ersten Eindruck und gibt das Bild einer modernen kleinen in sich ruhenden Stadt preis.

Da der Komplex auf zwei Seiten zur Straße hin geöffnet ist, steht es jedem frei, einen Blick hineinzuwerfen oder sich dort ein wenig umzusehen, denn auch das ist Teil des offenen Grundprinzips der Wohnanlage. Außenstehende sollen gezielt einen Einblick in die „Stadt in der Stadt“ haben und somit die Vielseitigkeit des modernen Wohnens erfahren. (02.06)

Der Grundriss zeigt die zehn vorhandenen Kuben, die alle getrennt voneinander für sich stehen. Prägend ist hierbei die Schlichtheit, ausschließlich rechteckige Grundformen komen zum Einsatz und erstrecken sich über bis zu drei Geschossen.

Die Apartements sind alle indiviuell eingerichtet, tragen aber jeweils die äußere Schlichtheit der Anlage ins innere und sorgen so für ein homogenes Gesamtbild.

Der Innenhof zeichnet sich durch die große Anzahl an Pflanzen und Begrünung aus und bildet dadurch eine Parallele zu Haus Lange und Haus Esters, bei dem das Wohnen in und mit der Natur im Vordergrund steht.

Moriyama House is located in the suburbs of Tokyo.

As the map shows, the basic structure of the complex, with its many solitary individual buildings, is perfectly integrated into the suburban environment and thus looks as a part of the city that has always existed. At the same time, the cleverness and clarity of the cubes play against this first impression and reveal the image of a modern small city dwelling in itself.

Since the complex is open on two sides to the street, everyone is free to take a look or look around a little, because that is part of the open basic principle of the residential complex. Those who are outside will have a clear view of the „city in the city“ and thus experience the versatility of modern living. (02.06)

The floor plan shows the ten existing cubes, all of which stand apart from each other separately. The simplicity, only rectangular basic shapes are used and extend over up to three storeys.

The apartments are all individually furnished, but they always take into account the outer simplicity of the complex and thus ensure a homogeneous overall picture.

The inner courtyard is characterized by the large number of plants and greenery and thus forms a parallel to Haus Lange and Haus Esters, where living in and with nature is the focus.

Erste Schritte

First Steps

Auf Grundlage der aus Haus Esters enstandenen „Variante 4“ sind vier Gebäudekomplexe hervorgegangen. Diese bestehen aus einfachen Kuben und sind in ihrer anordnung frei wählbar. Die markanten Sichtachsen bilden drei sichtbare Schneisen, die den Komplex durchdringen.

Um in dem kompakten Wohnkomplex die Inimität zu wahren werden, von Haus Moriyama übernommen, die Fenster so angeordnet, dass man zu keinem Zeitounkt von einem Kubus in einen anderen blicken kann. Dies wird so über mehrere Etagen fortgeführt.

Das zu bebauende Grundstück liegt auf Höhe der Bahngeise und somit ca 4,5 Meter uber Staßenniveau. Um dem Gelände gerecht zu werden bedarf es einen Aufgang, der durch eine Terrassierung mit unterschiedlichen Höhenniveaus realisiert wird.
