I am blessed with a multitude of cherished memories and traditions associated with both Thanksgiving and Christmas. Selecting just one from each category proves to be a challenging endeavor. However, if I were to pinpoint a favorite Christmas tradition, it undoubtedly revolves around the annual gathering at my grandparents' home on Christmas Eve. For as far back as my recollection stretches, this cherished day has been consistently hosted within the cozy embrace of their residence and the smell of good cooking. Some of my most cherished memories come to life in the embrace of my Pawpaw as we sing Christmas carols together, an experience that remains evergreen despite my 34 years. There's a timeless and heartwarming magic in the simple act of sitting on his lap, a testament to the enduring bonds that span generations. As the night deepens, our tradition continues with Pawpaw's captivating recitation of the "Cajun Night Before Christmas," enriching our celebrations with its captivating narrative.

Though my Grandma's passing in 2020 left a void in our festivities, her memory lives on through the spirited tradition of racing to say "Christmas Eve Gift" first every year. This tradition now stirs both nostalgia and joy, reminding us that some things remain unaltered and cherished within our family. There's no place like home for the holidays, and one of my cherished family Christmas traditions beautifully embodies the essence of "home." Each year, we gather in the cozy comfort of our living room to watch "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" together, filling our home with the heartwarming aroma of a homemade simmer pot bubbling on the stove. As we savor the scent of cinnamon and spices, we bake my Mawmaw's famous Christmas cookies, adorning them with laughter and love. My sons, Grayson and Hayes, usually have flour up to their eyes by the time we finish! The joy of decorating these cookies is a testament to the importance of home, where cherished traditions create lasting memories and warm our hearts during this magical season. 2 C. sugar 1 C. butter, softened 4 eggs 6 1/2 cups self rising flour 3 tbsp. buttermilk 1 tsp. vanilla
Christmas Simmer Pot: 3-5 cinnamon sticks 1 orange (sliced) 1-2 sprigs of rosemary 1 Tbsp. clove 1 cup fresh cranberries 2 Tsp. nutmeg Fill a pot with water and simmer all day!
Cream sugar and butter. Add eggs one at a time, creaming well with each addition. Sift flour and add with buttermilk and flavoring to other mixture. Make dough stiff enough to roll out on floured paper. Cut into desired shaper. Bake 10-12 minutes at 375* Cool then frost with your favorite icing!
I have a couple of memories. When I was a little girl growing up with my one sister, my dad worked shift work. Our mother couldn't wait for us to see our Christmas. One evening when dad was working, we opened all of our Christmas presents and then wrapped them back up so my dad wouldn't know!

Directions: (Read Directions in Full before starting!) In a pot cook sugar, syrup, and water to boiling point. Cover and let boil for 3 min without stirring. Remove cover; cook until the mixture is at a hard ball stage or 255°F. In a large bowl add salt and vanilla to egg whites; beat until stiff. Pour syrup from a height of 1 foot, slowly into whites. To thicken faster, place the bowl in cool water while you stir it constantly. Place nuts in last. Then as fast as you can, when the mixture gets thick, drop by teaspoonfuls onto waxed paper.

Brown pork sausage Remove from pot (do not drain grease) Saute garlic, then seasoning blends in grease Add ground beef to vegetables and brown blend Add cooked pork sausage and blend Add cream of mushroom soup and blend well Add cooked pork sausage and blend Add cream of mushroom soup and blend Add cut up green onions and parslay and blend Add cooked rice a little at a time according to preference of amount of rice. Don’t let it get too dry by adding too much rice. (Some like to have more rice than others as their preference). Blend well, taste to see if needed more seasoning

Pie shell Mix first three ingredients in sauce, pan and light come to a boil Turn burner off and let sit to cool a few minutes Eggs and pecans to mixture and stir quickly not to let eggs look scrambled Pour into unbaked pie shell.
