OK Teachers’ Convention – NO SCHOOL, NO DAYCARE We apologize for the inconvenience, but all of our teachers will be attending the Teachers Convention on the 20th, so there will be No School and No Daycare on September 20th. We’ll be back to normal on Monday the 23rd.
FREE AFTER-SCHOOL TUTORING began yesterday, and happens Tuesday’s and Thursday’s, 3:30 – 4:30, in the 4th grade room and in the Middle School. Thank you First Lutheran PTL for sponsoring this for our students! ONE- OR TWO-PAYMENT DISCOUNT: If you chose the one- or two-payment tuition option, your August payment was due by August 31. Please contact the office immediately if you are on this plan and have not made your August payment. DO YOU SHOP AT STAPLES?! WE NEED SOME NUMBERS FROM YOUR RECEIPT, and Staples will give us up to 5% back to use on our October purchases. We currently have a $27.88 October school credit thanks to a Classroom Rewards program that Staples has going on through September 15. To help us out, you can enter the receipt yourself, or get it to Connie at the school office and she can enter it for you and give the receipt right back (it just takes a few seconds). You can also take a picture of the receipt and email it to her on FastDirect or at lutheransecretary@yahoo.com, or make a copy and drop it in the black mailbox out front. The Classroom Rewards Program goes from 5/15/19 to 9/15/19, and we will use that reward money to -1-
buy classroom supplies/ink/etc, to help keep YOUR costs down! To enter your receipt yourself, make your purchases at Staples and then visit staples.com/classroomrewards , create an account, and donate it in my name (Connie Erickson) via First Lutheran (I promise, the money goes to the school...not me!), or you can enter it in your teachers’ name if they have signed up on their own. PRINCIPAL – Mr. Birnbaum: Welcome to the new month of SEPTEMBER. We praise God for our 199 students and we pray that we that we will be a blessing to each of them and to you. Please let us know of ways that you can help us improve. LIBRARY – Ms. Ware: Welcome back! I hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend. We are getting settled in learning about the different parts and functions of a computer, keyboarding, and research. Hopefully you are seeing your kids bring home some library books, we added some neat ones over the summer! In Creative Writing, we will be starting our senses project soon, which has always been a big hit. Have a great week everyone! PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: I hope everyone had a good long weekend! This week we are learning all about the letter S and the number 1. We are also starting to trace our names. Show and Tell is Friday, and the book orders are due Friday also. Have a great week! PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Gillespie: This week is flying by! We are working on rectangles, triangles and the letter I,i. Please review them at home. Reminder of Show and Tell for everyone on Friday!! PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: Happy September! I hope you enjoyed your long weekend! Thank you for the wish list goodies that you have brought in. Show and Tell will be on Friday. KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend! In your child's Monday Folder you will find new work from Tuesday. Also, our online work is from Unit 1 and we are now on week 3. Please have fun reading with your child! It is so exciting to see your children learning to read! We are going through the abc's one time fast and then we will go slower and take one letter a week. (We have now done a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h,i j,k,l,m,n,o,p,q,r,s.) Have an awesome week! He provides rest at just the right time. The extra long weekend was truly a blessing. I know the children enjoyed it as well. Book orders are due by September 10. You can read books from home as well as library and classroom books. AR Bookfinder is a good site to check the reading level of your chosen book. We're going to Leonardo's on Friday, September 27. Leonardo's is a children's museum and play area in Enid, OK. The permission slip for that field trip is coming home today. Please return 2

God's Blessings, Dear Friends! THIRD GADE – Mrs. Steichen: Happy Labor Day to all! I hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend. We are hitting the ground running and getting things done here in class. This week: Tests: Spelling and Reading test on Friday, over Kumak's Fish. Memory: We are starting the books of the Bible, Genesis through Ruth is due next Wednesday, September 11th. Math: Test today. If the grade is below a 90 all students will have to correct. This same rule applies to reading test. Science: projects are all due on Thursday. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you for bringing in wish list items. I can’t wait to see other items. Looking at student work helps scholars to stay on take task and helps to ensure a great school day! The more work completed in school the less to do at home! Keep reading at home and practicing multiplication facts. Peace as you serve the Lord. FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: I hope everyone had a wonderful Labor Day weekend. The 2nd and 5th graders will go to Leonardo's Museum in Enid on Friday, September 27. The permission slip went home today. Please return that with money on or before Friday, September 20. The cost is $8 per person attending. Happy birthday in September to Addie (20) and Adyn (24). MIDDLE SCHOOL FLY: First Lutheran Youth meets on Wednesday nights from 5:30-7:00, beginning TONIGHT!!! We will meet in the Youth House @ 5:30 for dinner and devotions, and head over to the gym for games afterwards. Pickup will be in front of the gym at 7:00pm. TAILGATE PARTY: This year First Lutheran Church will be hosting tailgate parties before each home Wildcats football game. This will be held at the Youth House from 5:30-7:00. We’ll have food, games, and a prayer for the team before the football game begins at 7:00! Feel free to park in our school parking lot (boy scouts fundraiser) and walk over to the game from there! If you’re interested in hosting one of these nights, please contact Jennifer Heitman (jenniferheitman@cox.net). Mrs. Scott: We’ve already had our first break of the school year! I hope that everyone had a wonderful Labor Day. Every class has had their Chapter 1 tests and has started Chapter 2. Please remember, if work is shown on homework and tests but the answer is wrong, the student automatically receives half credit. If you have not downloaded the Remind app and joined the appropriate math class, please do so. 6th Grade Religion has a group on the Remind app as well. The code to join 6th Grade Religion is @6873kf. Reminders for memory work will be sent through the Remind app. Let’s have another great week of learning! Mrs. Hanson: We have been learning so much already! We are going to make sure that we realize we have been learning and what we have learned. We will review this week and will have a little, simple quiz by Friday just to check in with everyone and see what is being absorbed. 6th grade has learned how to scientifically observe and ask research questions. Now, we will practice doing research and writing hypotheses. 7th grade has performed color, streak, and luster tests on our unidentified minerals and will be finishing up by testing hardness, crystal shape, and other special properties. By Friday we will have identified the minerals and after some practice, we will test our identification skills of these same minerals next Tuesday. 8th grade has learned that all living things are made of cells, require energy, respond to stimuli, and reproduce. We have drawn life cycles to show that all living things go through stages. And now we will extract DNA to prove that all living things have DNA. Mr. Covert: Welcome to September! I pray that everyone enjoyed the long weekend and is ready to get back to work! Classes are going to pick up where we left off. In 8th grade, we’re working our way through the Revolutionary War. In 7th grade, we’re talking about the United States to the east of the Mississippi River. As for 6th grade, we’re wrapping up our chapter on Sumeria and heading to the west to study ancient Egypt.

I pray that God continues to bless our school family as we move through the start of this school year. Blessings on your week! Mrs. Harbeson: Greetings, Everyone! I hope you all had a wonderfully restful Labor Day weekend. I had a wonderful weekend, but I wouldn't necessarily call it "restful!" We have lots going on in Language this week... The 8th graders have taken their first test in grammar and we are beginning a new unit. We're also doing close readings of short stories. 7th graders have also taken their first grammar test and are starting a new unit. In literature, we have begun reading our short stories in preparation for our theater trip in October. The 6th grade class is continuing our study on prepositions and will be testing at the end of this week. We too, have been reading short stories and discussing different literary elements. Just a friendly reminder...the 6th grade Camp Lutherhoma forms and money are all due to me by this Friday. If you are needing financial assistance for this trip, please see Mr. Birnbaum. The 7th grade permission slips and money for our theater trip on October 7 is due to me by next Tuesday, October 10. I'm always so grateful to those parents who are able to accompany us on our field trips. We wouldn't be able to go without you! Student council is also starting up this week! If your student is interested in running for student council, he or she is bringing home an information/permission slip today. That's all for now! I pray God's blessings on the rest of your week!
