Covid Update - We praise God that He continues to protect us, as staff and children have been around a variety of places and possible cases. We get anxious and concerned but possible symptoms turn to be fleeting allergies (Hallelujah) and fears were for naught. Keep the faith (in God, not in humans or your own efforts), keep praying, and keep sanitizing.
EXTRA MASKS: Parents, please…please …please to save the class from disruptions and you from making extra trips, please put an extra mask in your child’s backpack for those days when they forget theirs at home/in the car/etc. An extra water bottle would be a great addition! FREE SCHOOL BREAKFAST AND LUNCH FOR ALL, FOR NOW…: Between 9/14/2020 and 12/31/2020, or until money runs out, (weekends, holidays, and closed days excluded), First Lutheran School will be participating in an extension of the Summer Feeding Program, which allows our 1 – 18 years old students to enjoy school-prepared breakfast and lunch at no cost to the parents/guardians. GRANDPARENTS DAY – We are considering splitting up Grandparents Day. Monday morning – Nov. 23 will still be PS & PK, but watch for more details about splitting up the buildings and doing double performances on Monday afternoon & Tuesday morning before Thanksgiving. Fallapalooza – Saturday, October 24 from 10-2:00. Keep asking your child’s teacher (& room parent) about your class auction item and your game work shift time (between 9:30-12:30). Please keep bringing us your little stuffed animals and small toys that we can give away as prizes. BOTTLED WATER: The Cafeteria is now selling bottles of water at breakfast and lunch for $1 each, but the student must have CASH to purchase them. The players and cheerleaders are working hard at practice and at recess. th A list of scheduled games is attached to this Chatter. November 13 starts our 5 Grade Tournament, and our first Varsity home games will be November 21 against Immanuel – Broken Arrow. Ticket prices for regular games will be $5 for adults, $4 for Sr. Citizen, and $3 for Students (5 and under are free). At the end of October, season passes will be for sale in the office and at the games, and prices will be $20 for Adults, $15 for Sr. Citizens, and $10 for students.

1 QUARTER CHAPEL OFFERINGS: We need to collect an average of $35 a week to be able to continue our sponsorship of Rosa for this year, and we have only collected $40.60 so far. If you are able, please send monetary contributions with your student for chapel donations, so that we can continue to help meet Rosa’s educational, physical, and spiritual needs during the next year. COLLECTING SHOES AND BABY ITEMS: The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) at the church is now collecting used (clean) shoes and items for Baby Kits (see attached flyers). You may drop off these donations in the school office.
PRINCIPAL – Mr. Birnbaum: Last Wednesday was MID-quarter. How are your child's grades? Go to FASTDIRECT and keep abreast as this quarter is quickly flying. COACH AMANDA: Shout out to Caleb Wilson and William Vaughan! They showed true sportsmanship in P.E. on Monday when they made sure to help a classmate be successful! PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: Happy Fall Ya'll!! This week in preschool we are learning all about the Letter B and the sound it makes, and continuing practicing our name writing. Happy early Birthday to Steven. His Birthday is on Monday! Have a great week!! PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: Happy Fall! I hope you enjoyed your long weekend! Just a reminder, our water fountains are closed. Each child needs a water bottle to keep at school for the week. They will come home on Friday to be washed and brought back on Monday. Our Pumpkin Patch field trip information is in folders today. They are due back to me (with payment) by, Wednesday, October 7th. Please remember that we go to PE on Monday and Wednesday; send your child in appropriate shoes for the gym. Our Bible words this week are, Remember me, O Lord. KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: Wow, September is going and we only have a week and a half left of it! The kids are working hard on their sight words and reading at school. Please keep working at home too! We are going on a field trip to "Rustic Roots Pumpkin Patch" on Tuesday, October 13th so please save the date! We will need drivers/parents to come. The cost will be $5.00 each for everyone. FLS will be the only school there that day. Look in your child's backpack for our permission slip. Have a wonderful week! FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Our memory verse for Friday is Luke 17:3 - If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him. We will have show and tell on Friday. Please bring a collection or part of a collection to share. (seashells, rocks, marbles, stickers) Field trip notes and permission slips for the Pumpkin Patch came home today. Please return form and money by Wednesday, Oct. 7. Saturday, October 24 is our Fallapalooza. Each family has been asked to bring an item for our 1st Grade Class Fall Gift Basket for the Auction. We will be doing this in class; this means no paragraph or reading test each week. Math: Test on Friday. Spelling: Test on Friday, next week is a Unit 1 review week. I will give a list out on Friday. Social Studies: Landform quiz today. We will start an in class project on Friday. Science: Animal test on Thursday. We will be starting a project on Friday. FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: We have a full week of school, meaning a full swing of instruction. We had a fabulous time praising God at See You at the Pole. Keep reading at home for AR points; daily reading at home & at school is a must. The end of the first reading/grading period is the 15th! We are at many places in making goals. Tests 2
should be taken weekly. Please log in & check with Renaissance, to see how kids are doing. The 15 th also means the end of the first quarter of school. We need to be and stay organized, and follow directions. Please look on Fast Direct for missing work. This school year has been a big adjustment. Turing in work on time is a necessity for success. Please help the kids in this adjustment. Picture day is the 1st, smile pretty. Kids are forgetting water bottles when they are desperately needed. Many are feeling headaches when bodies are not hydrated. If anyone is able to bring in a case of water for when we forget, it would be greatly appreciated. Please ask me if you have any questions. Have a great day walking with God. FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: We eagerly anticipate the fun we will have on our field trip tomorrow. Thanks to all parents attending/driving to make this trip possible for us. You are the best! The 5 th Commandment and meaning are due Friday. Blessings! 5TH GRADE SCIENCE – Mrs. Hanson: - We are trying to get adjusted and into good routines. For every part of each lesson we will work in our book, complete a virtual lesson, learn vocabulary, and perform some enrichment activities. This means there will be homework and classwork done from the book, online, and with other sources. Any written work is done in the book or in the spiral notebook, never on any loose pages, to help us stay organized. We also practice everything we do together and instructions are given verbally and written. Assignments are written in planners and checked by me, they can also be found on Google Classroom, even if the assignment is not digital. I am doing everything in my power to help my students understand and remember what they are to do. I know they are doing their best to understand and remember too.
MIDDLE SCHOOL Mrs. Scott: 5th Grade Math took their Test 2 yesterday and started on Lesson 16 today. We will have our next test after Lesson 19. 6R Math has been learning about equations. Our Chapter 2 Test will be on Friday. 6A/7R Math has been working with decimals for the past week. 7A Math has been working with negative and positive numbers. Chapter 2 Test will be on Friday. 8R Math took their Chapter 1 Test yesterday and started Chapter 2 today. 8A Math has been working on adding and subtracting real numbers and worked on adding and subtracting matrices today. Mrs. Hanson: 6th grade's could have been better, but it was the first science test of their middle school careers, so it was to be expected. I am still extremely pleased with their working knowledge of the content, which is what truly matters. Test corrections are mandatory and due back Friday. Specific instructions for corrections are on Google Classroom. We have started a new "chapter" and will have a vocab quiz Friday. 7th grade is wrapping up minerals and will start preparing for a test. A few online assignments should be redone if grades were not perfect scores so that this information is done correctly and learned before the test. 8th grade is finishing up their unit of Characteristics of Living Things and are doing station activities to wrap up the content and prepare for a test. They are creating a slide show to depict development of different organisms starting at fertilization. Fundraising order forms and money is due Friday. Ms. Kester: And we're back! It was a deliciously long weekend, but I am so glad to get into our sixth week of school. This week, eighth graders are learning about explorers; seventh graders are studying Earth's layers, systems, and climate; sixth graders are locating places on Earth using the grid system and various types of maps; and fifth graders are examining our land. Plus, shout out to Braden Barney who rocked his iTeach History performance in class yesterday! Regarding Religion classes, grades 7 and 8 have been gearing up for their Religion tests this week while grade 6 has been up to their necks in the Old Testament story about the Flood. Further, all Religion classes are preparing to recite their Scripture of the Week Friday - Ephesians 6:14-17. They are afforded class time to work on it, as well as to study for their tests, but don't be shy about reminding your student to practice & study at home! They'll be glad you did. Lastly, we appreciate Tyler Stuever holding down prayer for our seventh grade homeroom at this morning's See you at the Pole gathering. It blessed us all. Mrs. Harbeson: Happy Fall! I don't know about you, but fall is my very favorite season. Football, cooler weather, and the approach of all my favorite holidays is near! I hope you all are doing well. Everything in language is plugging right along. Before we know it, in just a few short weeks, we'll be at the end of our first quarter. I want to encourage you all to 3
really put your effort into high gear and finish the first quarter strong! Along with today's Chatter, I have sent home a letter with those students who are interested in serving on student council. Parents, please read the information and then sign if you are ok with your student running for StuCo. Elections will be held Monday, September 28. FREE BREAKFAST AND LUNCH through December! Between September 14, 2020 and December 31, 2020 (weekends, holidays, and closed days excluded), First Lutheran School will be participating in an extension of the Summer Feeding Program. This program is being provided by our federal government to lessen financial stress during the COVID pandemic, and will allow our students to enjoy school-prepared breakfast and lunch at no cost to the parents/guardians. YES--free lunch and breakfast to all children between the ages of 1-18 through the end of the calendar year. (For students below the age of Kindergarten to participate in free breakfast, the parents will need to stay with them while they eat, and then take them to daycare.) As always, your student is welcome to bring their own lunch if they prefer. If your child is out sick and you want to pick up food for them or other children who are between 1 - 18, contact the office before 10:00 a.m. to have lunches available for pickup for those children that day. We will need the names of those children, but nothing else. Due to this change in billing procedures, we foresee an unpredictable increase in the number of students participating in the school breakfast and lunch programs each day. We will do our best to estimate the number of children eating school meals; however, in the event that we run out of the school meal for that day, cereal and/or sandwiches may be substituted for a hot school meal on a moments' notice. BREAKFAST TIMES: As a reminder, the cafeteria serves breakfast from 7:30 a.m. (doors open) until 7:55 a.m. To get a school breakfast, students MUST ARRIVE in the cafeteria PRIOR TO 7:55 a.m.; otherwise they do not have time to consume the breakfast before they pack up their things and prepare to walk to their classrooms. FREE MEALS TO PUBLIC, 1 - 18, AND ADULT MEAL PRICES: Grab and go lunches for students not attending First Lutheran are allowed, but need to be scheduled prior to 10 a.m. each morning by contacting 580-762-9950. Adult meals will still be sold for $2.50 for Breakfast and $4.00 for Lunch. We appreciate you calling the office to order these before 10:00 a.m. each day. GRAB AND GO WEEKEND BAGS: The program also allows us the option of sending up to 2 grab and go bags (containing cereal, sandwiches, milk, etc.) with each of our students on the weekends, at no cost to the family/guardian. If your family would like to participate in this phase of the program, please contact the office to sign up, prior to 10:00 a.m. the day BEFORE the last day of school that week. For example: if we are out of school Friday, you would need to contact the office by 10 a.m. Wednesday. Please note that we are required to send milk with the meals, and there may be other cold items in the grab and go bags, so please refrigerate the bags as soon as possible. FOOD ALLERGY: If your child has a food allergy and you plan to participate in school meals, it is imperative that you contact the office immediately to make sure that we know of the allergy. HIGHLIGHT REEL: If you want your 1 year old - 18 year old FLS student(s) to receive free meals on school days, you do not need to contact the office (other than for food allergies). Simply have the child show up for breakfast / sign up for school lunch, and then eat it. Through December (or government program running out of money), you will not be charged for the meal. You don’t need to do anything. You DO need to contact the office in advance to participate in weekend grab and go bags.
