There’s nothing that you need to do; if your kids eat a school lunch or indicated only breakfast, there will be no cost to you. (If your children are under the age of kindergarten and 22% of millennials you want the free breakfast, you will need to sit with them while they eat and then walk them and 26% of over to class.) Christians. 1ST QUARTER CHAPEL OFFERINGS: Chapel offerings this quarter will be used to continue First Lutheran School’s sponsorship of Victor and Rosario; children that we have (1)
“adopted” through Compassion International. Our sponsorship provides medical checkups, nutritious food, health and hygiene training, educational assistance, access to special services like surgeries and disaster relief, and mentoring to help children discover their incredible value as God’s children. Most important of all, they will hear about Jesus Christ and be encouraged to develop a lifelong relationship with God. Please pray for them daily, and be generous with your chapel donations so that we can continue our sponsorship of children who are not as fortunate as we are. BOXTOPS: We can’t clip them anymore; we have to scan receipts via the BoxTop app. If you would drop your grocery / office supply receipts 1) in the black mailbox in front of the administration building or 2) put them in your child’s backpack, they will get them to the office where we will scan them and then throw them away or return them, whichever you prefer. If you get electronic receipts (think WalMart grocery pickup), please forward those to Connie at lutheransecretary@yahoo.com, and I can send them in through my account. Thank you! I can return your receipt to you or throw it away; whatever you prefer. INK & TONER RECYCLING: Help us keep your costs down! If you have a new or used ink or toner cartridge that you are done with, please send them with your student and the teachers will get them to the office. We recycle these and earn credit on the supplies that the school purchases each month. THANK YOU for your help with this! PRINCIPAL – Mr. Birnbaum: Our faculty made GREAT connections with other Oklahoma Lutheran School faculties on Friday. Lord willing, we will grow stronger in our mental and spiritual wellness. DAYCARE – Ms. Vap: Infants, Ones, and Twos Parents - please be sure to activate your Brightwheel account if you have not done so. This will be our main source of communication between directors, teachers, and parents. You can always call the daycare office at 762-1124, but we would prefer all other communication thru the app. Daycare & Before/After School Care - we are still needing work/school schedules for those who are subsidy contracted, by October 1st please. MUSIC – Mrs. Brey: Students in 6-8 took a quiz on Tuesday. I will be putting grades in the grade book soon for that. Band instruments have gone out! A few instrument repairs needed, but looking to start working out of our method books on Friday! Your music teacher is pumped! KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: We have been through all of the alphabet and sounds once and now we will do them again, slower, taking one letter a week along with working on all of our reading and sight words. If your child doesn't know their alphabet and sounds, please work at home on these with your "Monday Folder" homework. Our letter this week is "Mm". The weather is getting nicer and cooler and if your child brings a jacket to school please make sure their name is in their jacket. Have a magnificent cooler Fall week! FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Happy Fall! Hopefully we will start getting some cooler weather soon! Memory verse for Friday is Luke 17:3 - If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him. We will have show and tell on Friday! The theme this month is to bring a collection or part of a collection of something (seashells, rocks, marbles, stickers...). Blessings on your week! THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: Wow. Isn’t this weather amazing! With weather changing, please remember to write names in sweatshirts and jackets. Kids like to take them off at recess and we want to make sure they make it home. I am so sorry grade reports got sent home so late. Please let me know if you have any questions. Grades are always changing, so please check on FastDirect weekly. This week—Memory: Genesis through Daniel due on Friday. Next week we will say the whole Old Testament books of the Bible. We will then move on to the New Testament. Reading: We are reading Sideways stories. The kids are loving it! We will finish it up next week. Spelling: Test on Friday (Rows and Piles of Coins). Next week is a review week. Check your child’s planner for the words. Social Studies: We are moving on to study each of the seven continents. We will be doing readings and questions in class. If they are not done, they will be brought home to finish. Science: We are moving on to warm blooded animals. In the next coming weeks we will have a test and a project. Be on the lookout for project guidelines. Book Orders: book orders have been sent home. Please get orders back by Wednesday, September 29th. Picture Day: Remember that picture day is September 30th! Have a wonderful week! FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: Hope you are all having a great week seeing our Lord in the little parts of life. It is only through Him that we do anything. Please continue to use planners and look on FastDirect for student grades and missing work – it is the best way to keep track. Missing work and work done carelessly can really make for surprising grades. Being organized and following directions are the keys to success! Please check school handbook for the school late work policy; some students get very close to unwanted consequences! Some Rose Hill information (including permission slip) has gone home. Make sure that you look at all of that information so that we have a correct head count and successful field trip for the kids! Some are at the halfway mark for their AR goals; some need dedicated reading at night to make goals the kids helped to set. Nightly reading is difficult when AR books are left at school. I’m here for any questions. Have a great day sharing God’s love. FIFTH GRADE RELIGION – Mrs. Brey: Memory work due Friday - Matthew 5:7. No re-do's, this time, so please study! Remember picture day is on September 30th. We've started chapel families and will get to know them better over the next few weeks!
5th Grade & Middle School DON’T MAKE ME BEG… : IF your student has had the Covid vaccination(s), can you please use your phone to take a picture of their card and send it to Connie at lutheransecretary@yahoo.com or bring it to the office to copy? I need to track that, along with their immunizations. When your child moves to the high school, that information will move with them, and be one less thing you have to provide. Thank you to those who have sent them in already! MATH – Mr. Birnbaum: 3.5 weeks left in this quarter so keep up on those grades. MATH – Mr. McKinley: 6th grade on field trip this week. 7th regular math finishing up chapter 2 and testing on Friday. 7th advanced and 8th regular – we are reviewing solving algebraic problems since we are having trouble remembering the steps. We will wrap up chapter 2 and test over it next week. SCIENCE – Mrs. Porter-Cain: It is crazy to think we are just weeks away from the conclusion of 1st quarter! 5th grade- It's all about weather in Unit 5! I think the kids are enjoying learning about weather and how it comes about! Please make sure your child is staying current on their work! Grades will start falling because of incomplete work! 6th - Genetics is the name of the game for us! Traits and how we got them! Recessive and dominant has been our big topics this week! The kids leave today for Lutherhoma and we pray for their safety! I know they will have a great experience! ALSO- picture announcements went home this week! PICTURES ARE SEPTEMBER 30TH! 7th- Matter, Forces, and Energy... oh my! Chapter 2 is coming to a close with our test on FRIDAY! Next week we will take a small break from the book and explore all things ELEMENTS!! 8th - IT'S INSECT TIME! We started our insect projects this week! A FastDirect was sent giving parents an overview of what is needed! I ordered the kids nets and those should arrive this week. We are exploring the world of insects and I think the kids are really going to learn a lot, even if it is a creepy, crawly time! PE/ HEALTH SCIENCE – Mrs. Porter-Cain: 2nd-4th - We are learning the different types of dodgeball and learning all about integrity and sportsmanship! I love the competitive nature of my students! (3)
5th-8th This week we are taking a small break from basketball and playing dodgeball. The older kids have so much fun in PE! In Health Science this week we are going to start learning about the lungs and their functions! BASKETBALL- Our first grade check of the year took place at mid quarter, if your athlete was put on probation, you have received a FastDirect and your player was informed! Athletes can still practice and play/perform while on probation! Please remember the FREE tutoring on Tuesdays and Thursdays and send your child if they are struggling! They are students first and athletes second. I am alllllmost done with the basketball schedule- It will be out by October 1st! We are ready to rock this season! GO CARDS! LANGUAGE – Ms. Kester: This week in English is all about AR tests and quizzes. It warms my heart to know that students have not only enjoyed reading their first AR books but also retained that which they read. Monday, we will begin our second round of books; I hope they enjoy them as much as they did the first ones. Grammar assignments are focused on action verbs and state-of-being verbs (G5); subjects, predicates, and verbs (G6); and capitalization (G7 and G8). Vocabulary and spelling are getting some love, too, as all classes will begin studying next week to prepare for their lesson 2 quizzes and tests that are approaching. Remember, reading logs are due Friday as usual; however, sixth graders will be excused from the requirement this week, as they are headed to Lutherhoma! Keep them in your prayers for safe travel, fun, growth, and community. Religion classes are focused on their mock sermons this week. Seventh graders gave their first ones today on Luke 2:1-40 and will continue to do so through Friday. I can't wait to see the tapings, as they will upload them to Google Classroom for us to enjoy anytime we wish. Earlier this week, sixth graders rocked their sermons on John 13-17; some facing their public-speaking fears, others trying new things, and many impressing classmates with their content and speaking skills. I'm so proud of all of them! Now, they will bring it all together in a final activity that centers on the many attributes of God. That's all for now.
