ROOM PARENTS MEETING - Tuesday, September 28 at 2:00 in Elementary Cardinal Room. FREE TUTORING IS BACK!!!! 2nd Grade and older, Tuesday’s and Thursday’s, 3:30 – 4:30, 4TH grade room, beginning September 2021. This is not babysitting; your child should come with pencils, classwork, books, chargers, and whatever supplies they need to be able to do their work. SEPTEMBER 17 – NO SCHOOL / NO DAYCARE: We are grateful that we have the facilities that allow us to host other teachers from Oklahoma on this day; however, because of the magnitude of this event, we will be unable to have school or daycare on this day. We apologize for the inconvenience. TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 28 at 6:30 Come help us pack the LWR Back to School Kits at the church. Everyone is welcome! 1ST QUARTER CHAPEL OFFERINGS: Chapel offerings this quarter will be used to continue First Lutheran School’s sponsorship of Victor and Rosario; children that we have “adopted” through Compassion International. Our sponsorship provides medical checkups, nutritious food, health and hygiene training, educational assistance, access to special services like surgeries and disaster relief, and mentoring to help children discover their incredible value as God’s children. Most important of all, they will hear about Jesus Christ and be encouraged to develop a lifelong relationship with God. Please pray for them daily, and be generous with your chapel donations so that we can continue our sponsorship of children who are not as fortunate as we are. INK & TONER RECYCLING: Help us keep your costs down! If you have a new or used ink or toner cartridge that you are done with, please send them with your student and the teachers will get them to the office. We recycle these and earn credit on the supplies that the school purchases each month. THANK YOU for your help with this! PRINCIPAL – Mr. Birnbaum: Thank you for all your prayers and concerns for my daughter's surgery last week. It was successful and Lord willing she will be playing basketball at the University of Sioux Falls again soon. DAYCARE – Ms. Vap: Daycare parents, if you have not brought your child's supplies for this school year yet (28x52 crib sheet, extra set of clothes, wipes, etc) please be sure to do so. new ECC Connect app. Please download the app and we will begin using this to check your child in and out. This will allow us to put necessary covid precautions in place to keep everyone as safe as possible. MUSIC – Mrs. Brey: Kindergarten and 1st grade did an awesome job singing in church on Sunday! I'm so excited to see what the rest of the grades have to offer to our services! The next group singing is 2 nd and 3rd grade on October 10th. I will send out more information as the time gets closer. 6th, 7th, and 8th grade classes have a quiz on Thursday, September 16th. They have been given worksheets to help them study for the quiz. (If your student is not in music due to sports, they will be given an assignment that will take the place of the quiz.) LIBRARY – MRS. MANNING: Happy September! In computer class we have been reviewing computer basics and internet safety. This month we will also begin keyboarding. Please bring a set of headphones or ear buds to be kept in the classroom. Basic ones work just fine! Please send the plug in kind, not Bluetooth. For art class, students are very welcome to bring an old shirt, a smock, or an apron to preserve their clothes. This week we are learning about how much God loves us, #4, the letter D, yellow, rectangle, and our memory verse is D - Depart from evil, and do good. Psalm 34:14 Have a blessed week! PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: This week we are finishing up our number review and starting shapes. The students are doing awesome! No school on Friday. Have a great week! PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: We would like to Welcome Jimma and Konner to our class. We will not have school on Friday. Our Bible words this week are, I, the Lord, am your Savior. Isaiah 60:16 We are half way through our alphabet review, and are reviewing colors, shapes, and numbers 1-5. We are also working on recognizing and writing our first name. We continue to practice our PreK procedures. Have a Blessed week and nice long weekend! KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: Thank you parents for all the door wish list items! Our class will put the items to good use. Also, thank you for sharing your children with me this year! Your kids are awesome! We are working hard on learning our ABC's and sounds along with reading and numbers. Have a great long weekend with no school on Friday and a wonderful week! FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Memory verse for Thursday Acts 3:19 - Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out. I can't believe that we are already half way through the 1st quarter! Thank you for those of you who brought your children to church to sing on Sunday. It was great seeing them at the front of the Church to sing their praises! Please turn in Scholastic book orders by Thursday if you would still like to place an order! Remember that there is no school on Friday as we are hosting the Oklahoma Teacher's Convention. Have a great 3 day weekend! SECOND GRADE – Ms. Felton: Good afternoon! I have begun to use SeeSaw, so if you have not signed up for that, please do. Memory this week is Mark 5:44. Memory, Spelling, and Vocabulary will be tested tomorrow (Thursday). Next week we have a social studies test on Tuesday. On Wednesday afternoon, Dave and Shirley Zimmerman (our classroom grandparents) will be coming in to do a Land Run activity with the class! We will begin to have math tests beginning this Thursday and then every 10 lessons will be another one. AR Goals are set, so encourage your child to read and fill out the reading log with books for them to take tests on and earn points! THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: Can you believe we are already half way through the first quarter!!! Please be on the lookout for a printout of your child's grades so far. Please let me know if you have any questions. This week: Memory- the kids are picking up on the books of the Bible song. Next week Genesis through Daniel is due by Friday. Math: Test 2 was today. Remember that these happen every five lessons. Science: We are testing over cold-blooded animals and will be moving on to warm-blooded animals. We will be closing out the unit with a project. That will be handed out in the next week or so. Social Studies: We are moving on to seven continents and oceans. Reading: next week we will be reading a chapter book together. This means no weekly reading test on Fridays. We will take a book test when we are done with the novel. Have a wonderful week!! FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: Continue reading to earn our AR goals, we are making big progress! Reading a little each day makes a large improvement. This is a small look at how we are doing academically now, not at report card time. This snapshot gives us a chance to do any reassessing for academic practices now and to not be scared when we have a first report card. Missing work and work done carelessly can really (2)

Blessings as we rest in the Lord over the long weekend. FIFTH GRADE RELIGION – Mrs. Brey: For religion, students have memory work due on Thursday, September 16. The verse is Matthew 5:6. It is a short quiz, and there will be no re-do's, so make sure you're studying! Remember: there is no school on Friday, September 17th. Enjoy the long weekend!
5th Grade & Middle School PRETTY PLEASE?!!! If your student has had the Covid shot(s), can you please use your phone to take a picture of their card and send it to Connie at lutheransecretary@yahoo.com (or bring one to the office to copy)? I need to track that, along with their immunizations. When your child moves to the high school, that information will move with them, and be one less thing you have to provide. Thanks, much! MATH – Mr. Birnbaum: We have added retired teacher, Sandy Sibley, to help with fifth & sixth grade math. MATH – Mr. McKinley: 6-7 math: This past week we reviewed our tests and talked about how important it is to stay on top of the homework, as it will directly relate to the chapter test. Next week we are studying decimals and scientific notation. 7-8 math: We took the chapter 1 test this week and the students as a whole did not do as well as I would have liked them to do. As with all of the classes, it very important to do the homework, understand the homework, and pay attention in class in order to do well on the chapter tests. This week we are diving deeper into solving algebraic equations. SCIENCE – Mrs. Porter-Cain: The quarter is flying by! First athletic grade checks are this week! 5th Science- They have started Unit 3 and are learning all about weather! 6th Science- They are studying CELLS!!! What they are and what they do! 7th Science- They are studying atoms, molecules, ions and elements! 8th Science- They are studying KINGDOMS and CLASSIFYING!!! We will test on Thursday for Chapter 2. Then we are moving into our bug projects! A few of the students have already started collecting and are ready to get started! 5-8 PE- They are moving into skills and drills for basketball! 2-4 PE- They are playing running games and working on rule review! BASKETBALL- Practices started this Tuesday! We are looking forward to an awesome season and welcome Mr. Brey as he is coaching JV boys this year! Be watching for the season schedule! Supporting your basketball players and cheerleaders at home games is MUCH APPRECIATED!! GO CARDS! LANGUAGE – Ms. Kester: Thanks to my substitute teachers this week! Mrs. Riley allowed students to finish reading their AR books due this week, and Ms. K will immerse students in a worship experience tomorrow that will be just what the great Physician ordered. There is no school on Friday, but we will greet next week with AR tests and quizzes on our class AR books, completion of vocabulary homework, and a move to our next Grammar lessons. Great job on the first half of the first quarter, students! SOCIAL STUDIES – Mr. Brey: 5th Grade: Students will focus on the southern colonies for the rest of the week. 6th Grade: Students will work on mapping for the next two weeks. 7th Grade: Students will learn about major population centers and their cultures. Hopefully students will have access to their online textbooks by the beginning of next week. 8th Grade: Students will explore the constitutional convention and many of the founding fathers.
