We apologize for the inconvenience, but all of our teachers will be attending the Teachers Convention on the 20th, so there will be No School and No Daycare on Friday, September 20th. We’ll be back to normal on Monday the 23rd. "See You at the Pole" will be held Wednesday, September 24. We will have Chapel/prayer time at the Flag Pole in front of the Administration Building at 8:30 a.m. Parents/Grandparents/Community Members are welcome and encouraged to join us! FREE AFTER-SCHOOL TUTORING happens Tuesday’s and Thursday’s, 3:30 – 4:30, in the 4th grade room and in the Middle School. Thank you First Lutheran PTL for sponsoring this for our students! KINDLES FOR SALE: The middle school has upgraded to ChromeBooks, so the Kindle Fire 7’s that were formerly used in the middle school are now for sale. They have 5 GB, come with cases, but no charging cords. 1 for $30, 2 for $50, 3 for $60. Stop by the office to take a look/purchase them. CHAPEL OFFERINGS: After only 3 chapels, we have collected $162.75 in Chapel Offerings to be used to sponsor Romaric and Bernadette this school year! Remember to bring your chapel offerings on Wednesday’s so that we can continue to help these children! DO YOU SHOP AT STAPLES?! WE NEED SOME NUMBERS FROM YOUR RECEIPT, and Staples will give us up to 5% back to use on our October purchases. We currently have a $36.17 October school credit thanks to a Classroom Rewards program that Staples has going on through September 15. To help us out, you can enter the receipt yourself, or get it to Connie at the school office by this Friday and she can enter it for you and give the receipt right back (it just takes a few seconds). You can also take a picture of the receipt and email it to her on FastDirect or at lutheransecretary@yahoo.com, or make a copy and drop it in the black mailbox out front. The Classroom Rewards Program goes from 5/15/19 to 9/15/19, and we will use that reward money to buy classroom supplies/ink/etc, to help keep YOUR costs down! …(continued) -1-
To enter your receipt yourself, make your purchases at Staples and then visit staples.com/classroomrewards , create an account, and donate it in my name (Connie Erickson) via First Lutheran (I promise, the money goes to the school...not me!), or you can enter it in your teachers’ name if they have signed up on their own. PRINCIPAL – Mr. Birnbaum: Are you ready for the draft? The 8th grade class will be picking students to be in the Chapel Family. Chapel families sit together so the older students can help the younger students. It especially helps all students that don't have siblings younger or older than them. I especially love to see the hugs, connections, and the relationships built among those generations. PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: This week in preschool we are learning all about the letter A and the number 2. We are doing great with starting to trace our names! Hope everyone has a great week! PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Gillespie: Hello everyone! We had a wonderful week! The weather has been nice and we have enjoyed playing outside. We have been busy in class learning the letter O, o. As well as numbers 1-3, please review these at home. PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: Mark your calendars for Tuesday, October 8th. We will be going to Quail Valley Farms in Winfield Kansas. More information and permission slips will come home next week. We are moving along on our alphabet review. The children are settling into our routine and doing well. If you are at the Kay Count Free Fair, be sure to stop by the art work building and see our I am Fearfully and Wonderfully made poster. Our Bible words this week are, I the Lord, am your Savior. Isaiah 60:16 Have a Blessed week! KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: Our class would like to wish Hadlee a happy birthday (9-8)! Parents, please mark your calendar for October 8th. We will be going on a field trip to Quail Valley Pumpkin patch in Winfield on this day. Then we will go to Ark City's train park for lunch and play. I will send a special note home later. FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Memory for Friday is Acts 3:19 - Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out. Thank you again for the "Wish List" items that have been brought in. Please make sure that your child reads their AR book at home and is ready for the AR test on Wednesday mornings. Also, make sure they bring their book to school on Wednesdays! Blessings on your week! SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: These fine second graders are already making great progress. I appreciate your help in being sure your child returns homework each day. THIRD GADE – Mrs. Steichen: Believe it or not we are almost half way through this quarter. We are having so much fun, time is just flying by. I have a bunch of grades to enter, so please keep checking FastDirect for updates to your child's grades. This week: Memory - Genesis through Ruth was due today. Next Wednesday, September 18th, Genesis through Psalms is due. We have been singing the song in class, the link to the song in on my FastDirect if your child needs/wants it at home. They are doing great so far!! Math: Test on Friday. Science: Test tomorrow over cold-blooded animals. Please go over the review, the test will be multiple choice. If the grade is below a 70, they get a chance to correct it. Thank you for all the hard work on our animal projects. We are starting to go through our presentations, everyone is learning so much from these. Thank you! Dot Day: September 15 (yes, it is a Saturday) is International Dot Day; we will be celebrating is on September 16. A note will be sent home with details about our fun Monday activities. Students see the need for full organization, focus and hard work, this task takes practice. A tool to being organized is planner use, please keep signing planners nightly. details in place for Rose Hill! Be prepared to leave the school no later than 8 am on Friday to begin a great Rose Hill day. Remember that we are having a Rose Hill Prep day TOMORROW Thursday at 8:30 am to bake a treat for Rose Hill! Please let me know if you can help with baking. Come prepared with spoons and aprons on! Peace as we serve the Lord. FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: We thank Mrs. Zimmerman for filling in for me last Friday and Monday, as I went to a wedding shower for my great niece in Houston. She did a wonderful job! The field trip slip I sent home last Wednesday is due next Thursday, not Friday, as we do not have school on Friday the 20th. Blessings!
MIDDLE SCHOOL FLY: First Lutheran Youth meets on Wednesday nights from 5:30-7:00!!! We will meet in the Youth House @ 5:30 for dinner and devotions, and head over to the gym for games afterwards. Pickup will be in front of the gym at 7:00pm. TAILGATE PARTY: This year First Lutheran Church will be hosting tailgate parties before each home Wildcats football game. This will be held at the Youth House from 5:30-7:00. We’ll have food, games, and a prayer for the team before the football game begins at 7:00! Feel free to park in our school parking lot (boy scouts fundraiser) and walk over to the game from there! If you’re interested in hosting one of these nights, please contact Jennifer Heitman (jenniferheitman@cox.net). Mrs. Scott: Chapter 2 tests for General 6th Grade Math, Advanced 6th Grade/General 7th Grade Math and Advanced 7th Grade Math were taken today. We will begin Chapter 3 later this week. We are moving right along! Please keep an eye on your child’s grades as Mid Quarter Reports are next week! 6th Grade Religion: Memory work due today was The Lord’s Prayer, The Second Petition and its meaning. Memory work due on 9/18/19 will be The Lord’s Prayer, The Third Petition and its meaning. I have each student write down their memory work every Wednesday so they will have something to study from. Mrs. Hanson: Now that everyone has their chromebook, we will start more online work this week. All classes had a website quiz that required parent involvement due by Wednesday. I hope parents found the page that is more relevant and important to them;) 6th grade is working on writing hypotheses and working in a virtual lab this week. 7th grade has identified minerals and will now be exploring all the different groups and classes of minerals. 8th grade is learning the Cell theory this week as they move through stations. Parents, please remember we offer after school tutoring/help/homework time every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30-4:30. All middle school students have also started a game called Science Quest (rules and explanation can be found on my website) that encouraged students to go above and beyond. They can earn XP, experience points, that they can redeem for real prizes! Tasks are completed, submitted by students, verified by me, and points are calculated every week! Ask your student about SCIENCE QUEST! Mr. Covert: September is in full swing! I hope everybody is getting into the routine of school now that we’re a month into the new year! Classes are moving right along. 8th grade is wrapping up the Revolutionary War this week before we move onto the Articles of Confederation and the Constitution. 7th grade is continuing our look at the United States east of the Mississippi River. As for 6th grade, we’re going to be spending this entire week talking about ancient Egypt. Cookie dough orders are due WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 11! That’s the day you’ll be getting this, so please bring them in as soon as you read this, if you haven’t already! I pray God continues to bless our school family as we move through September! Blessings on your week! Mrs. Harbeson: Hello, Everyone! September is a busy month around FLS. I want to remind everyone of the importance of using your time wisely when you are at school. Take advantage of those 10 minutes of class time or your 40 minute daily study hall. As if that wasn't enough, you can also drop by my room for free after school study hall on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-4:30. I'm the teacher on duty every Tuesday in September and Mrs. Hanson is on for Thursdays. If it's not mandatory, you can come-and-go just to get a little help, or stay until basketball practice. Whatever you choose, just be sure to bring your school work or a book to read. Ready for a little extra credit?! Students (and Parents), join my Remind app and earn 10 extra credit points to either your Language or Literature grade. Some students have chosen to split the points between the two! Shout out to 8th grade who has everyone on Remind!! I'm just waiting 3
on one more 7th grader, and a few 6th graders to go ahead and join, and then everyone will receive those precious extra credit points. Follow the instructions below to join: 1.
