YEARBOOK SIGNING PARTY: Remember that great field trip you had last year? How you raced around the parking lot at the trike-a-thon? Your beloved 8th grade chapel parent’s graduation? You can re-live those friends and school events with a yearbook! If you pre-ordered, they were sent home with students on Monday. If you need to buy one, extras are $25 in the office. And PLEASE make sure their name is written on their yearbook before they bring it back! We will have a yearbook signing party THIS Friday (the 30th) at 2:30, so make sure you bring your yearbook & signing pens that day!

We participate in the Scrip program, where businesses (who choose to participate) sell us gift cards at a discount, and we sell them to you at face value, and we keep the difference as a fundraiser. We keep some local ones in the office, but if you would like to see the whole list that we can order from, go to https://www.shopwithscrip.com/ , scroll aaaalllllllllll of the way to the bottom, and click on “retailer list”. To purchase the ones we have on-hand (like WalMart, Burger King, Starbucks, Subway, Old Navy, etc.) or to order something specific (like Disney, Carnival, Bubba Gump, Xbox, LLBean), just come by the office. DO YOU SHOP AT STAPLES?! WE NEED SOME NUMBERS FROM YOUR RECEIPT, and Staples will give us up to 5% back to use on our October purchases. We currently have a $27.88 October school credit thanks to a Classroom Rewards program that Staples has going on through September 15. To help us out, you can enter the receipt yourself, or get it to Connie at the school office and she can enter it for you and give the receipt right back (it just takes a few seconds). receipt and email it to her on FastDirect or at lutheransecretary@yahoo.com, or make a copy and drop it in the black mailbox out front. The Classroom Rewards Program goes from 5/15/19 to 9/15/19, and we will use that reward money to buy classroom supplies/ink/etc, to help keep YOUR costs down! To enter your receipt yourself, make your purchases at Staples and then visit staples.com/classroomrewards , create an account, and donate it in my name (Connie Erickson) via First Lutheran (I promise, the money goes to the school...not me!), or you can enter it in your teachers’ name if they have signed up on their own. PRINCIPAL – Mr. Birnbaum: Thank you to all those who took time to attend last night’s events. Parents/guardians that are very involved in their child's school life have a greater return on their investment. Please keep us all in your prayers. PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: I hope everyone is getting off to a great start this year! The preschool class is learning all about the rules and procedures as well as reviewing their colors and shapes. Have a great week! PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Gillespie: We had a great week in Pre-k 4s! We are still working on routine and procedures. They are doing a fantastic job! We are looking forward to Back-to-School night, hope to see everyone there!! PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: It was great seeing everyone at Back to School Night! Thank you for taking time out of your day to come! Our Chapel offering this quarter is for two Children that we have "adopted". We will learn more about these children in class. Book orders and Highlights orders are in folders today. Please order online or return to me by Friday, September 6th. Please remember to sign and return the mail folder by Monday each week. We will bring home our blankets to wash each Friday. Please remember to send them back on Monday. Our Bible words this week are, I have called you by name, you are Mine. Isaiah 43:1 We are still reviewing the alphabet, shapes, and colors. We are also learning about jobs. There is no school on Monday for Labor Day. Have a Blessed week! KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: It was so great to see so many parents at back to school night on Tuesday! I sent home your child's Monday Folder. Each Monday (or Tuesday if we don't have school on Monday) your child will bring their folder to school and I will put new homework in it. Please save all the books to re-read and all the sight words, which go in the popcorn box. I want to thank you for helping your child with their homework this year. The more your child reads the better they will get. Also, you have a password and username in the folder to get online and have more books to read. Have a blessed week! FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: All is great in 1st grade. I would like to welcome Camdon to our class. Our memory verse for Friday is Psalm 46:1 - God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Please make sure to work on this at home. They will be asked to recite the verse to me individually. Thank you to all of you that came to Back To School Night. Book orders were sent home and a reminder that they will be due on Thursday, Sept. 5. We will have show and tell on Friday. Have your child bring something that will tell us about themselves. (A favorite book or toy, a family picture, a picture of a pet, etc.) Have a great rest of the week! SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: Thank you for coming BACK TO SCHOOL! If you child has done their homework the test should not be too big of deal. After this test, problems will increase to 20 per day. So far we have all been doing amazing on Math and getting most of it done in class. Science: Invertebrates project is due on Thursday, September 5th. The kids will have time to work on this project in class as well as at home. Once we get this one done we will do another one on vertebrates. Yearbooks: We have our yearbook signing party on Friday at 2:30, please bring your yearbooks or if you do not have one Connie has some in the office. Have a wonderful week!! 2
FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: Thank you for the great family support last night for Back to School Night. If you were not able to make it last night, information has been sent home to look at, contact me with any questions. I will also be contacting you soon to set up a home visit if you requested one. Keep reading & earning points for AR; we are making amazing progress! Our Chapel offering is school supplies for overseas students & two children we will be supporting financially. Please look on FastDirect Bulletin Board for the electronic version of the Friday Letter. Yearbooks will be signed on Friday; make sure you have yours! Remember that we are having a Rose Hill Prep day FRIDAY at 1 pm! We will be trying on Rose Hill clothes, sewing Nine Patch Quilts, & cutting apples. Bring your apples! The Rose Hill clothes are out & we will be trying taking them on. If you are going to have clothes made, let me know so we do not reserve clothes for you. Moms & dads need to dress in time period clothes also! If adults need time period clothes for this trip, please come to the classroom to try some on! Our next Rose Hill Prep day is on the 12th to bake goodies for the next day! If you can help with the baking on the 12th please let me know. Spelling, Memory, and Reading tests are on Friday. Do not forget there is no school on Labor Day. Blessings as we continue to learn how we were created by God. FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: We made it through our first full week of school. I must say I really enjoy this group of children. Most are eager to learn; they listen well and are respectful. It will be a joy to spend our days together! MIDDLE SCHOOL FUTURE WASHINGTON D.C. ATTENDEES: If you need to make payments to your D.C. account, please note that you cannot make payments with a credit card. We will, however, accept checks, cash, money orders, etc. Thank you. FLY: First Lutheran Youth meets on Wednesday nights from 5:30-7:00, beginning Sept 4th! We will meet in the Youth House @ 5:30 for dinner and devotions, and head over to the gym for games afterwards. Pickup will be in front of the gym at 7:00pm. TAILGATE PARTY: This year First Lutheran Church will be hosting tailgate parties before each home Wildcats football game. This will be held at the Youth House from 5:30-7:00. We’ll have food, games, and a prayer for the team before the football game begins at 7:00! Feel free to park in our school parking lot (boy scouts fundraiser) and walk over to the game from there! If you’re interested in hosting one of these nights, please contact Jennifer Heitman (jenniferheitman@cox.net). Mrs. Scott: General 6th Grade, Advanced 6th/General 7th Grade, and Advanced 7th Grade Math took their first test over Chapter 1 yesterday. We will review the tests and start Chapter 2 today. Algebra has a test over Chapter 1 on Friday! Advanced Algebra will set up their Khan Academy accounts sometime this week. Please make sure your child has a three-ring binder for math. We will be setting up the binders later this week. This is for a grade at the end of the quarter! If you have not downloaded the Remind app, please do so. The codes for each class are listed in the Back to School Night packet. If you did not receive a Back to School Night packet, message me on FastDirect for your child's class code. Let's have another great week! Mrs. Harbeson: Greetings from middle school! I hope your week has been treating you well! With one full week of school behind us, I am very optimistic about this year's students. We've had hardly any late work, and everyone seems to be respecting the policies and teachers! We have great things ahead of us! Last night was Back to School Night. I hope everyone found our new way of going from classroom to classroom more helpful and personal. I want to encourage parents and students to reach out to us teachers. We are here for you, we love you, and we want the best for you! Speaking of FD...Parents, did you know that you can receive a text notification whenever a teacher posts a message on FastDirect? I have found it very beneficial! In class, 7th and 8th graders are beginning to take their first tests in spelling/vocabulary and grammar. 6th graders are headed in the same direction. Their tests will be next week. 6th grade parents, please look over the Camp Lutherhoma packets I handed out at BTSN. Our trip will be here before we know it. All papers and money is due by Friday, September 6. 3
7th grade...our theater trip is also approaching quickly. Please return permission slips and money to me by Tuesday, September 10. Mrs. Hanson: It was great to see everyone at Back to School Night! If you were unable to make it, please make sure you received and look at all the information that was discussed that night. Please review, sign, and return the Chromebook Contract. Chromebooks will not be issued until I receive the signed contract. 6th grade is breaking down the scientific method to really understand what science is and how to do it. 7th grade has begun a new chapter on minerals. We will be working with/observing unknown minerals in hopes of identifying them. 8th grade is learning what it takes to be considered living. It's actually more complicated than we think! Ask you student what characteristics an object must have to be considered living. Mr. Covert: We’re just about through August! I hope everyone is getting back into the swing of things now that we have a full week under our belts. Our classes are moving right along. 8th grade is finishing up the declaring of independence, and we’ll be moving on into the Revolutionary War next. 7th grade is going to be starting in on the Eastern United States this week. As for 6th grade, we’re working through Mesopotamia and some of the world’s oldest civilizations. I pray that God continues to bless our school family as we move through the start of this school year. Blessings on your week!
