And now, it’s time for the CARDINAL SHOUTOUT; a place for us to recognize how talented and diversified our students are!

Congratulations to this years’ PCPS 2019 Graduating Class. We are extra proud of all of our students, as we send extra special congratulations to the Top 10, including 3 of our own: Priya Patel, FLC&S 2 years 2014-15; Hogan Watts, FLC&S 7 years 2008-14; And Salutatorian Shae Burden, FLC&S 8 years, 2008-15.

More congratulations to PCPS Senior Class Student Council Officers: Morgan Didlake, President, FLS 2 years (2014-2015); Grant Jackson, Historian, FLS 9 years (2009-2016); Jamison Doornbos, Secretary, FLS 4 years (2012-2015); and Kale Gilbert, Treasurer, FLS 9 years (2008-2016).

Not graduating from high school, but competing in a Taekwondo tournament and taking first place in breaking, Sumo fighting, and stick fighting was Kelby Grimes in 4th Grade.

Another student making headlines recently is 3rd Grader Kinley Brown who entered artwork into a contest and won 1st place, Grade 3, Group 2 Poster with the D.A.R. Southwest Division-JAC Art Contest, 1st place, 3rd Grade Poster for the Aloha Chapter NSDAR AND the Hawaii State Organization, NSDAR, and National Winner Honorable Mention for Art Poster Third Grade.

The ELEMENTARY MUSICAL is THIS Friday, May 10, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. in the gym. All elementary students Kindergarten – 5th grade have been preparing for this production and can’t wait to share it with you! Children K-4th grade, please wear church clothes to the performance. 5th grade will be in costumes. There will be a concession stand available, so send/bring $!

LIBRARY: This is the last week to check out books. Start looking in the car, under the bed, between the sofa cushions, etc. for lost books. You will need to pay for/replace any missing books before you can pick up report cards.

FREE SUMMER LUNCH PROGRAM: First Lutheran School is participating in the summer lunch program this summer. Children 18 and under will be provided a FREE lunch in the FLS Cafeteria Monday through Friday, from 11:30 to 12:30, May 28 to August 9, 2019, closed July 4 and August 6, 2019. The cost for adult meals will be $4.00; Senior citizens & military adults with identification will be charged $3.50. If you’re getting together with friends, stop in here for lunch -1-

REPORT CARD PICKUP will begin Friday, May 31. Remember to check your accounts; any past due school balances or money owed for missing library books, etc. is due before we will release report cards or certificates.

PRINCIPAL – Mr. Birnbaum: Thank you to everyone that has already enrolled for the new year. We praise God for you. We are working on a variety of staffing changes and are excited about the upcoming new year. Only 9 more days of school for this year.

JANET GOLL…Happy Birthday (today) and Thank You for your 47 years of ministry to First Lutheran School. It will be strange not having you around the school after all these years but we praise God for you. Well done good and faithful servant.

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: This week we are learning about Pond life. We are also busy making mother's day gifts. I hope everyone has a great fun week!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: Thank you for the beautiful flowers, and wonderful treats this week! I am truly blessed to work with such wonderful students and parents! We read 164 books for our reading challenge! Great job! We will celebrate tomorrow with and Ice Cream Party. Thank you to all of the parents/grandparents that walked over to the track meet with us and helped get us back to the school. I think we finally dried out. I hope we had beautiful weather for our field trip today! Thank you to all of the parents that drove. We couldn't do these fun activities without you! Our Bible words this week are, Jesus said, "I am with you always." Matthew 28:20. We are still reviewing our Alphabet, and PreK skills. Have a Blessed Week!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Heitman: Thank you all so much for spoiling me during our Teacher's Appreciation Week! I certainly feel very appreciated! Last week ended a little crazy with the track meet getting rained out. Since we didn't get to go to the concession stand during the track meet, we will plan on going this week during our school musical. If you've already sent money I will use what you sent. Hopefully the weather held up for us to go to Lost Creek Safari today... thank you to those who volunteered to drive! Tomorrow we will have our reading party celebration in class. As we get ready to close out our school year we still need to be focused on our goals. For some of us that means -2-

going on to Kindergarten. Please continue to work on letters and sounds at home, and even try building words together!

We only have a few more days together, let's make them count!

KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: The Spring Musical time has been changed on Friday, May 10th (this Friday). It will start at 5:30 in the gym. Please bring your children about 5:15 so we can get them lined up and ready. You can bring them to the kindergarten room. Thank you so much for your support. We are eager to share our music story with you!

Also, please have your child dress in nice church clothes for the performance. Our class would like to say Happy Mother’s Day to all moms and we want to wish a happy birthday to all the summer birthdays Landon W. 6-5, and Story on 7-30. Have a wonderful week!

FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Memory for Friday is the 10th Commandment - You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor. Please make sure to work on this at home also. We started out having a great time at the track meet until the rain started and ended the day for us. We are planning on having some track meet fun on Friday afternoon with the rest of the school. Please make sure to wear tennis shoes. Your child may also bring some money for concession treats on Friday. If they do bring money, please make sure that the money is in a baggie with their name on it. The Spring Musical is at 5:30 (not 6:30) on Friday night. Please remember to dress in nice church clothes. Field trip notes and permission forms went home on Monday, please sign and return these to me by next Monday, May 13. We only have a few weeks left. Please help your child to stay focused and to keep working on your reading! Thank you for the flowers that were brought in on Monday! Have a great rest of the week and I will see you Friday night at the musical!

SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: Happy Mother's Day! Your children are blessed to be yours. We're busy wrapping up this school year. Remember that the spring musical is this Friday evening at 5:30 in the gym. See you there!

We're going to Cann Gardens on Wednesday, May 15 at 11:00 for a story walk. Be watching for a permission slip for this activity. We're dressing up like cowboys and cowgirls on Thursday. We'll write this week's spelling words in cursive and may need a little extra practice. Thanks for sharing your day with us on Friday at the track meet. Blessings!

THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: Down hill from here. We will have a couple of things to get done to finish up our Third Grade year. Please continue to check fastdirect for your child's grades. If you have any questions about them, please let me know. This week: Memory - only corrections on Psalms 23. Spelling - Test on Friday. Next week will be our last week of spelling. Reading- we are finishing up The One and Only Ivan. We will take a test and an A.R. test on it next week. Musical - hope you all can join us Friday evening at 5:30 in the gym. Book Reports: We have had several presentations. The kids are doing amazing!! Thank you so much for all your support. I cannot wait to see the wax museum. I hope you all can join us Friday, 11 am in the cafeteria. Don't forget your cameras!! Teacher Appreciation Week: Thank you for all your love and support this week and this school year. I have truly enjoyed your students this year. I am going to miss them all!

FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: The musical is looking great so far! See you Friday night at 5:30 p.m. Please continue to bring in Class Auction items. The Auction will be at the end of the quarter, & the Cardinal Bucks continue to be earned. The auction could not happen without you. Make sure we are reading for AR. The AR party is the final week of school. Permission slips for this AR Party go home when students have met their goals. Continue to watch FastDirect for grades and missing assignments to finish the year off successfully. Have a great week & never stop learning.

FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: We're wrapping up president oral reports this week. It has been enjoyable learning about our different leaders. We have a regular spelling and reading test on Friday. Dress rehearsal for our musical is Friday morning at 9 a.m. The final performance is Friday at 5:30. Happy birthday in this merry month of May to Gavin (22) and Adysan (23). Lucky Gavin, to celebrate his birthday on the LAST day of 5th grade. And Ady can enjoy her first day of summer by celebrating her big day. Thank you to all who are making this week so special for me. I truly feel loved and appreciated! Blessings!

CHEER: We will practice Mondays and Wednesdays through the remainder of the school year 3:30-5 (excluding the last day of school). Please be sure you have joined our "BAND" group, and turn on notifications. This is where all our information will be posted for the season. Camp deposit is due May 15.

"FLY" FOLLOW OUR FB PAGE to stay up to date with all of our activities! Search "FLS NextGen" on Facebook and request to join.

Join us tonight for FLY from 5:30-7:00 in the FLS gym! This will be our final FLY event of the school year.

We will have our end of school bash on the last day of school. Join us at 5:30 in the gym. Weather permitting; we will be having an outdoor cookout/game night! It's going to be a blast off in to summer break, so be sure to join us!

This summer we will host FLY on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays. We will have different activities throughout the summer. Our first event will be June 5th at Sun 'N Fun! Po-Hi Girls All Sports Physicals: The Lady Cat Softball Diamond Club is offering an easy and cheap way for girls to get their physicals for the 19/20 school year. Tuesday, May 14, from 5:30 – 7:00 at the Robson Fieldhouse they will have doctor’s and forms on site for $20 physicals. FYI, If your child is participating in a PCPS sport next year (like tennis, golf, volleyball, etc), they MUST have a physical done in the last year. Mrs. Harbeson: Hello, Everyone! I hope you are doing well! We're on the countdown around here...only about 10 school days left until summer begins! With that being said, now's the time to push through and finish strong. The 8th grade college reports were due today. We will begin the Powerpoint presentations on Monday and finish on Wednesday. For all classes, we will have one more spelling and vocabulary test along with one more grammar test.

Please remember to get your folders in order as we will be grading those on Monday, May 20. I hope you have a wonderful rest of your week!

Mrs. Hanson: All classes will have vocab quizzes this Friday.

On Tuesday, May 21 each class will have a comprehensive final to assess their retention of knowledge from January to now. We will review together in class and extra credit will be available to earn during reviews. However, studying will need to be done at home as well.

Well the track meet was a bust :( and we have SO much food/items left from concessions. We will have a concession stand with candy, chips, and drinks this Friday at the Elementary Musical in the morning and evening. If your student would like to earn money for DC, they may work either of these two opportunities. We will also be serving the hot items like frito chili pie, walking tacos, hot dogs, etc. as a lunch option this Friday. So if your student would like to work at that time for credit, it's available as well. If you do not have a 7th grader or a 7th grader needing to raise funds, please consider eating concessions for lunch on Friday.

7th graders; just another reminder about graduation, Tuesday, May 21. Every 7th grader will serve dinner at 6:30. I will feed every 7th grader pizza dinner before this at 6 pm in my classroom.

Ms. Pacey: Happy (almost) Mother's Day! We are in the final stretch of the school year. Course 1 is using indirect measurement for heights of buildings and objects around the school. Course 2 is writing and solving proportions.

PreAlgebra is working with slope-intercept form of equations. Algebra is solving systems of linear equations. Let's finish the year strong!

Mr. Covert: We’ve got two weeks left in the school year! I hope everybody is ready to buckle down and do their best to finish strong!

Classes are going to continue right where we left off. 8th grade is studying the post World War I US, and will be transitioning into World War II next chapter. In 7th grade, we’re moving a bit north to take a look at Central Asia and Siberia. As for 6th grade, we’re making our way through the Revolutionary Era, including the French and Industrial revolutions.

I pray that God continues to bless our school family as we move through May and towards the end of the school year. Blessings on your week!
