Secretary/Administrative Assistant - We are beginning our search to try to replace Mrs. Connie Erickson in the school office. She is planning to work parttime until August 30th to help train someone (or two) and she wants them to see how to close out a school year. If you or someone you know is a detailed, kid friendly, loving, Christian person who would like this position, then contact the school office and/or pick up an application.

TRACK MEET SHIRTS: If you ordered one, they will be handed out on Thursday—wear them this Friday!

1st – 8th GRADE TRACK MEET MAY 6: The yearly track meet is THIS FRIDAY! This is the time each year that we host other Lutheran Schools from Northern Oklahoma to OUR campus for a day of physical and academic competition and fellowship for students in 1st grade and up (younger students may come and watch, but not participate). This years’ track meet will be held both at PoHi’s stadium across the street (morning events) and on our campus (afternoon events). We invite you to make plans now to attend the track meet with your kids’, cheer on all of the students, and lend a hand as we host the other schools. Please contact the office or Coach Amanda if you can help out for an hour (or longer) by assisting with events, assisting with bee’s, writing winning names on ribbons, sorting ribbons by school, etc. Please keep reading about the track meet! –1–

READ THIS!!!! The kids will spend a lot of time outside, so be sure to apply sunscreen before school, and send/bring sunscreen to apply/re-apply during the day if it looks like it is necessary. Our middle school will be running a concession stand, with the proceeds going to fund their trip to Washington D.C. next year. Be sure to send money with your student if they wish to purchase lunch or drinks/snacks at the concession stand/if they choose school lunch, it will be PB&J. You are, of course, welcome to send a lunch in a disposable bag.

If you need to pick up your student early on this day, please come extra early and be prepared to search for them on the high school football field or on our playground. Be aware that the office may not be staffed continuously through the day, as we will be at the track meet part of the day. Please leave a message and we will get back to you as soon as we can. Student’s can be picked up at the end of the days’ activities, so they may be looking for a ride home around 2:00-ish.

Mark Your Calendars: Friday evening - May 13 will be our SCHOOL MUSICAL & PTL AUCTION. We will also have a free-will donation Potato Bar with proceeds going to Connie's cancer treatment expenses. See attached for more details.

STUDENT COUNCIL - HELP US HELP THE PONCA CITY HUMANE SOCIETY!: Good Morning, FLS Family!

I hope you are enjoying showering your teachers with love and appreciation this week! They are the best!

Just sending a reminder that along with bringing treats for your teachers, the student council is also sponsoring a Humane Society contest among all the classes. The class that brings the most items for the Humane Society will win an ice cream party during the last week of school! The contest runs from Monday, May 2 - Monday, May 9. On the 10th, student council members will collect and count all the items each class has donated, and the winning class will be announced in chapel on Wednesday, May 11.

The student council is also sponsoring a Humane Society contest among with all of the classes. TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK is THIS WEEK! A schedule is attached and remember…we have a list of each teachers’ likes/dislikes in the office; stop by to take a look!

REPORT CARD PICKUP for Pre-school through 8th Grade is Friday, May 27; we will be closed for lunch at 12:30; closed for the day at 2:30. If you can’t make it this day, you can stop by another day the next week; just call to make sure we are here. Remember to check your accounts; Report cards, certificates, & testing results will NOT be given out to families with a past due balance, or money owed for missing library books, etc. You may make payments and catch up your accounts on report card pickup day.

If you are leaving us with a credit in any of your accounts & wish to leave it to a needy family, talk with Connie in the office & she’ll make sure it gets (anonymously) to the account of a school family who can use the help.

SUMMER OFFICE HOURS: Ms. Connie will be here, but very spotty, and not much at that. If you are coming by the office, I encourage you to call first to see if I am here, or make an appointment.

Mr. Birnbaum: WELCOME to MAY and the last days of another school year. Thank you for all the ways you blessed us this year and especially during this TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK. We have the track meet this Friday, the BBQ Cook-off this Saturday, Mother's Day on Sunday, and Musical/Auction on Friday the 13th.

Ms. Connie: So…yeah…due to the cancer returning, this will be my last school year here at First Lutheran. I have been here in some fashion (parent/librarian/volunteer/secretary) since my oldest was 4 years old, and I am not sure what I’ll do when I’m not here every day. I definitely am going to miss all of you and your wonderful children, but I know that I need to spend more time with my family and less time at work. Thank you everyone for your prayers, support, and kindness through the years. We’ve made some great memories, many friendships, and I’ve met some kids that I will never forget --thank you all for sharing them with me. I still have grandchildren here, so I’ll still be visible, but as one of you! Please keep me and my family in your prayers, and I’ll see you around!

CARDINAL CARE – Ms. Vap: Planning Ahead - Inservice Days for the Daycare will be May 25th, 26th, & 27th. We want to give parents plenty of advance notice to make other childcare arrangements for those days, as we prepare the –2–

building for Summer Care and complete necessary training requirements. Daycare will be available May 19, 20, 23, & 24.

Sign-up sheets will be posted for those days. Summer daycare will begin on May 31 for those who are enrolled.

LIBRARY – Mrs. Manning: May 3rd was the last day to check out a book in the 2-8th library. Overdue slips will be going home soon! Good places to check for missing items are under beds, under car seats, and home bookshelves. Lost / un-returned books will need to be replaced or paid for before report cards may be picked up. MUSIC  – Mrs. Brey: All students have been reviewing jazz music and what types of instruments play in jazz band. We will stick with this through the end of the year. Middle school students are putting finishing touches on their musical which is happening on May 13th! Band students will have their concert on May 10th.

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Daine: Wow! Only two weeks of school left! This year has flown by. We are working on number recognition, rhyming words, and social skills (always,lol). Have a blessed rest of the week!

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: This week we are finishing up the alphabet with X, Y, and Z. Practicing our names as well. Have a great week!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: Happy May! Happy Mother’s Day to all of our Moms! Thank you for all of the wonderful Teacher gifts! I truly feel loved and appreciated! Our last show and tell is tomorrow. The school track meet is on Friday and we are planning to walk over to watch, weather permitting. See the reminder note in folders today.

Congratulations to our PreK Letter Master Kylinne who has learned all of the uppercase, lowercase letters and the sounds they make! Our Bible words this week are Jesus said, "I am with you always." Matthew 28:20 We are finishing our review of the alphabet. Have a Blessed week!

KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: Thank you Lindsay Freeman for being the kindergarten substitute the last few days!

Wow, the school days are going fast. Parents, keep working with your children on their "Monday Folder" words and books.

Please continue working all summer on reading so the children don't lose their sight words! Have a remarkable week!

FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Happy May! Only 2 weeks of school left. Thank you parents for bringing your child to First Lutheran and having me as your child's teacher. These kids have grown in so many ways during the school year.

Thank you for the gifts this week and making me feel special! I would like to thank you also for working with your child during the school year. We will have our end of the school year field trip on Thursday, May 12. Permission notes for this trip have already been sent home, please turn in by next Tuesday. I sent home a track meet note today with some information and the events that your child will be in. Please let me know if you have any questions about the day. We will have our last spelling and reading tests next week Tuesday and the 10th commandment next Friday. Happy Mother's Day on Sunday to all of you wonderful Mother's. I hope you have a very special day!

SECOND GRADE – Ms. Felton: Thank you for the gifts and love this Teacher Appreciation Week. I am blessed to be at this school! A huge shout out to the parents who drove to the Zoo last Friday - it was a great experience and a lot of fun! We had a small science quiz on Thursday, but our overall unit test is on Monday. A study guide will go home today.

Memory next week will be all three verses of Father Welcomes. With all of the events this week, our social studies test on economics will be pushed back to Tuesday. A number of students have finished their chapter books, which is great. All of them should continue to read increasingly challenging books now and throughout the summer! Other reminders include track meet on Friday with a packed lunch or money and sunscreen, Humane Society donations by Tuesday, RecPlex AR trip on May 12, and a half day on May 18 for the last day of 2nd grade!

THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: Less than 10 days left of 3rd Grade!! We are finishing things up this week and then we will do fun things from here on out. This is the last week for Spelling and Reading Test. We will still do Memory, Language, and one more Math test next week. Please keep checking grades. I am all caught up. This week: Spelling, Reading, and Math fact test tomorrow. Friday we will take our memory quiz, Jer. 29:11. Book Report: Notes were due today. Thank you! Next is our papers, boards, and wax museum. Please be on the lookout for a note about all this. If you have any questions, please let me know! This is one of my favorite projects. A.R. We only have 4 more people to get their goals, we got this!! Please make sure you get permission slips back to me. Track Meet: Remember this Friday is our track meet. Please pack a lunch or bring money to support our middle school Washington trip. Once your child is done with their events, they are welcome to go home. I will have a sticker with everyone's events on it. Auction: our auction project items are due by Monday, if you have any questions, please let myself or Jamai know. THANK YOU: Thank you so much for all the wonderful gifts for teacher appreciation week. I truly appreciate your children and all of you. You, as parents, help make my job easier with all your prayers and support.

FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: Thank you SO much for thinking of me during teacher appreciation week; what beautiful gifts I received! Life is happening in our room! We have chicks in our brooder! Ask the kids for the official count.

Book orders were due today, the 4th, to have books back in time for the end of the year. Let me know if you still want to –3–

order. Friday is our track day here at First Lutheran. Bring your money for the concession stand to support our school; & put your sunscreen on before you come to school to not get burnt. Permission slips for the AR Party are due Tuesday with money! The end of the year is right around the corner; please help the kids to be the best they can be to finish the year up strong as we are definitely 5th graders in training! Some are taking to this challenge very well. Fast Direct has all grades and missing work updated. Make sure we are not going to summer break too early. I am always here for a conversation for student success. Blessing as we focus on Christ and the blessings He has given to us.

5th GRADE RELIGION – Mrs. Brey: Students have been working on Fruits of the Spirit this past week. Tomorrow we will be taking a quiz over this!

5th Grade & Middle School Po-Hi Sports/Academics/Musical Tryouts are as follows:  Girls Softball tryouts will be May 5 from 5-7 p.m. @ the Softball Field at West Middle School  Tryouts for Volleyball will be May 10, 5-7 p.m. @ Robson Field House  Po-Hi Chorale auditions are happening now until May 13th. Any current 8th grade student who will be attending Po-Hi in the fall is eligible to audition. All auditions must be submitted online. Follow this link for all the details! (shorturl.at/bpuvI) 6th – 8th MATH – Mr. McKinley: 6th and 7th have finished chapter 9 and we will review the material and have chapter 9 test Thursday.

7th advanced will finish chapter 9 on Monday and take the chapter 9 test on Thursday.

8th will be being playing catchup this week and we look to take chapter 9 test next Thursday.

SCIENCE – Mrs. Porter-Cain: Hey all you Cardinal families! In case you haven’t noticed, these students are on their summer countdown! I had a GREAT week, last week, taking the 8th graders on our Philly or Bust road trip! We saw so much American History and had a wonderful time together!

5th- 8th Grade- we are using this week to talk about all things weather! Monday did not disappoint with all the weather examples it was giving us! We will be doing an experiment later this week!

Track Meet: I still need 2 volunteers for Fridays track meet! Contact me if you can help!

I hope to see you all on Friday, coming out to support these Cardinals and our school! It is a super cool event!

LANGUAGE – Ms. Kester: Students have been working hard on sentence types, the story of Daniel, and the musical! Additionally, we are preparing for the National Day of Prayer and track meet, which even includes awesome competitions like spelling bees! It's a busy and fun time of the year.

As we close out with our final Literature quizzes and Grammar tests, be sure to return or replace all reading books your child borrowed for Literature by Monday of next week. Lastly, we hope to see you all next Friday for all the amazing events taking place. Reach out if need be!

SOCIAL STUDIES – Mr. Brey: There has been a lot of late work handed in over the past week. If you notice that there is a zero where there shouldn't be, please let me know ASAP. For 5-7, they decided they would learn about the Black Death or the history of fast food. 8th Grade will be presenting their WWII slides and then moving into the Cold War as our final serious/normal curriculum unit.

First Lutheran Church & School—Growing up into Jesus, Reaching out with Jesus, Walking together in Jesus FREE SUMMER LUNCH PROGRAM: First Lutheran School is participating in the summer lunch program this summer. Children 1-18 will be provided a FREE lunch in the FLS Cafeteria Monday through Friday, from 11:00 to 12:15, May 23 to August 11, 2022, closed May 30, July 4, and August 9. The cost for adult meals will be $4.25. If you’re getting together with friends, stop in here for lunch & support the lunch program!
