CHAPEL OFFERINGS FOR THE 4TH QUARTER will be going to assist Camp Lutherhoma in Tahlequah.

SUMMER DAYCARE PACKETS are available in the office and in daycare. If you want your child to attend summer daycare, you must sign up; we have limited space available. PS3 and under, if you didn’t return the blue / green sheet with your choice, please confirm with Ms. Heidi or Connie in the office to make sure you are on the list.

ITBS TESTING WEEK is April 19-23; Students will be testing in the mornings during this week. Please make arrangements now so that students do not have morning appointments this week. Students who arrive late will not be admitted into a classroom until the class finishes any testing in progress.

DAYCARE NEEDS: If you have a high chair lying around that you aren’t using, or girls clothes, sizes 2-4T, please consider donating them to daycare. Thank you!

SCHATTE MEMORIAL EXTRAVAGANZA: Will be held May 1st in the FLS parking lot. We will have live music, vendors, and a BBQ cook-off! This event is open to the community. Check out our event on Facebook!

FLS TRACK MEET, 1ST-8TH GRADES: Students will be dismissed early/at the end of afternoon events. Please check out with teachers before leaving.

FLC NEW MEMBER ORIENTATION: We will soon begin a new member information class during the Sunday School hour. Call the church office at 762-1111 if you are interested in learning about/joining First Lutheran Church.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE… HELP US FIND THE RIGHT PERSON FOR YOUR KIDS: – First Lutheran School is looking for help in daycare, for the summer and for the school year. In addition to being 18 or older, able to be fingerprinted and pass a background test, applicants also need to have a positive attitude, be dependable, and have a personality, language, and behavior (and facebook page) that is appropriate when working with children. They need to be physically able to pick up small children to change diapers and as needed, and be willing to work with children of all ages. You may direct questions to Ms. Heidi Daley on FastDirect or at 580-762-1124 or by calling the school office at 580-762-9950, stop by the school or daycare office to get an application, or print your own at www.fastdir.com/flcspc under the “links” tab on the left. Please pass the word to relatives, neighbors, college students, etc. who you think would work well with children.

5TH – 8TH GRADE TRACK – Coach Amanda: Track practice is 3:30 – 4:30; Boys on Tuesday’s & Thursday’s and girls on Monday’s & Wednesday’s. Meet by the outdoor court by the cafeteria. I encourage athletes to do this in their off season! If you would like your student to participate, please message Coach Amanda on FastDirect.

SCHOOL OFFICE—TAX STATEMENTS: If you would like a printout of your payments to First Lutheran during 2020 for tax purposes, you can print them off by logging into your FastDirect account, click on the “finances” button on the top, click on “tax report” on the left-hand side, then choose the year you want and click on “Tax Year Printout”. It will bring up a page to print with your payments to First Lutheran categorized and totaled, and it will have our Federal Tax I.D. number on the top (it’s 73-6083110).

Alternatively, you can request a tax statement from the office by calling 580-762-9950 or sending a FastDirect email to Connie Erickson. This will include school-related expenses only; summer daycare tax statements must be requested from daycare by sending a FastDirect email to Heidi Daley or calling daycare at 580-762-1124. Not all payments to FLS are tax deductible, and you should contact a tax advisor to find out what can be written off, and what cannot.

A BEST FRIEND HAPPENING is scheduled for Saturday, April 24, 2021, 8am-11:30am for all the mothers, grandmothers, daughters, & friends. This event is sponsored by LWML. Mark your calendars and see details below.

RE-ENROLLMENT REMINDER: Are you coming back in August?! We need to know! Enrollment is now open to the public for next school year! Attached to a prior Chatter were your enrollment papers for the 2021/2022 school year; you can print an additional copy from the “links” tab on FastDirect, or stop by the office to get a new one. To hold your students’ spot for next school year, be sure to return your enrollment forms and 1/3 of the enrollment fee (if applicable). We are still limiting class sizes due to COVID, and some classes were already full this year, so please don’t wait until the last minute to let us know if you plan to return next year.

If you know a family new to First Lutheran School that is interested in enrolling, have them call the school office for enrollment information. If they have a student in 1st – 6th grades, make sure to ask them to list you as a referring family on their enrollment sheet. If they remain enrolled through the first semester, in January of 2022 you will receive a $200 credit towards your tuition account! ELEVEN families earned credit in January just by referring friends!

LOCAL NEWS: Do you take the newspaper? If so, if there are pictures or articles about First Lutheran Students, and you aren’t keeping them for yourself, would you send the articles in to the office? We would love to keep extra copies in our scrapbook. Thanks!

Can I have your grocery receipts instead of trashing them?? Since the BoxTop program has gone virtual, we are missing out on BoxTop Rewards. If you are willing, after you go shopping for groceries, home, or office, could you (*) put your receipt in the black box in front of the office, (*) bring them to Connie in the office and I can scan it and give it right back, or (*) put them in an envelope addressed to “Connie – office” and put it in your child’s backpack / take home folder / have them give it to their teacher? I’ll scan them with the BoxTop App, and then I will trash them or return them via your child (if you write your name on the receipt). Don’t worry about checking to see if there are any applicable products in your cart—it just takes a second to scan it, and if we get nothing, at least we tried.

BUT…sometimes there are BoxTop Rewards associated with non-food items like Ziploc, Hefty, Paper Mate, etc. You just never know, so it’s worth a shot! Of course, you can download the app yourself and scan the receipts if you would rather. Thank you!

OH! We always would like to use the numbers on the bottom of your Staples receipts to get extra Staples rewards for the school. In addition to you putting the receipt in for your own rewards; they’ll apply the Rewards to both your account and to a registered school! I just need the barcode and total spent.

PRINCIPAL – Mr. Birnbaum: Christ has risen! He is risen indeed. Hallelujah. We praise God for sending His Son to live that perfect life that we cannot. We look forward to our resurrection and our heavenly home with Him!!!

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: It's April!! Thank you to the parents that helped out with the field trip! This week we are learning all about the letters T and Z and the sounds they make. Have a great week!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: He is Risen! I hope you had a wonderful Easter and a nice break! We will be walking to the cafeteria for lunch the rest of the school year. Please make sure to send everything your child needs to eat with their lunch. Field trip forms and information came home last week and are due back to me by Friday. Book orders are also due to me or online Friday. Show and tell will be on Friday also. Our Bible words this week are, Jesus is not here, for He has risen. Matthew 28:6 We are continuing to review the alphabet. Keep practicing letter names and sounds! I know we have more Letter Masters! Have a Blessed Week!

KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: I hope everyone had a great Easter break! The days seem to be going by fast now with only 6 weeks of school left. On Friday this week we will have show and tell so kids please bring something that will fit in your school bag. Have a great week!

FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Memory for Friday is the 6th Commandment You shall not commit adultery. We were very excited to get our published books! We celebrated by having a book signing party! A flyer came home for a last chance opportunity to order. We welcome Olivier to our class! Have a blessed week!

SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: CHRIST IS RISEN! HE IS RISEN INDEED! ALLELUIA! We're so close to third grade and have plenty to do to be ready. We're working harder on cursive, language skills, math facts, and improving our reading. I know we can do it! We have only eight spelling words this week. We're running short on bottled water and could use a refill! Blessings!

THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: He is Risen! I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter. The weather was amazing.

This week: Memory - Psalms 23; due Friday. This is a long one, PLEASE help your child at home. Reading: We are starting to read Charlotte's Web in class. The kids are having a hard time getting into it, but I have a feeling they will like it. With reading this book in class, we will not be doing paragraphs or reading test till we are finished with the book. Science: We will be moving toward finishing up our unit on force and motion. Look for a test next week. Social Studies: We are working on an in class paper about their future job. Book Report: Please be on the lookout for information on their next book report. The first part of it is due on Friday. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about this project. Testing Week: We have only 2 more weeks to work on our test prep. WE GOT THIS!! I have one more day open for snacks. Please let me know if you are willing to take it. Also, please start getting me your letters of encouragement. I will have these for the kids on the first day of testing.

FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: Welcome back after celebrating Easter with an EMPTY tomb! Many have made or come really close to making this larger AR goal ending in May. Way to go! April book orders are due the 15 th of the month. We have been practicing for ITBS coming up, have you? Make sure you look at the Wax Museum book report paper that was sent home yesterday. It has important needed information on it! Midterms come out in two weeks.

Don’t get caught off guard by grades, look at Fast Direct before they come out on the 21st. Take time to worship our Lord and Savior as he died on the cross to save our sins. We would be nowhere without Him. Blessings as you bless others this week!

FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Hallelujah! As most shared the highlights of their Easter weekends, it sounds like wonderful family time was enjoyed by most. There were a few bumps here and there, but it appears as though things are looking up now. Happy birthday in this beautiful spring month of April to Casey, (16). Blessings!

MIDDLE SCHOOL F.L.Y. – Mrs. Heitman: 5:30-7:30, Meet in the Youth House for dinner/devotions, Pickup at the gym Mrs. Scott: 5th Grade Math will complete Investigation 7 on Thursday and will move forward with Lesson 71 on Friday.

6R Math took their Chapter 9 Test today. We will begin Chapter 10 on Thursday.

6A/7R Math has started Chapter 11 with square roots.

7A is working with surface area.

8R Math will have their next math test THIS Friday.

8A Math is wrapping up Chapter 8 and will begin reviewing for their next test at the end of this week.

Personal Finance – Mrs. Scott: BIG thank you to Officer McCormick, Officer Bahm, and Officer Tomlinson for taking time out of their day to speak to our finance classes! Our kids thoroughly enjoyed learning about the path to become an officer, their day-to-day responsibilities, and even sitting in the back of a cop car. Quick reminder that next Tuesday we will have a few firefighters and paramedics at the school to talk with our finance classes. Do not be alarmed if you see a fire truck or ambulance at the school.

Mrs. Hanson: Ms. Kester: Happy Resurrection season to our middle-school families! It is good to be back in the classroom with your children. There are two weeks until mid-quarter reporting and students have rocked some History projects, Religion sermons, and chapter tests since our last Cardinal Chatter!

This week, Geography class book-travels to Brazil, American History students engage the Constitution, and World History learners immerse themselves in Greek culture and civilization. Plus, 8th graders have a guest speaker lined up as they engage a civics unit these next couple of weeks. It will be a most informative time. Details to come.

In Religion, 7th graders are analyzing excerpts from the life of Moses as they chew on their Old Testament textbooks, and 8th graders will begin their next New Testament section on the parables of Jesus. French students are excited to pick up where they left off, then apply what they've learned to our next lesson, as we move into all things calendar - months, seasons, and days of the week en francais, of course. So, let's do this!

Mrs. Harbeson: Easter Greetings! I hope you all had a wonderful Easter break and were able to spend time with family and friends. Now that April is here, the rest of the school year will fly by with all the different activities going on. I want to encourage you all to stay on top of your classes and work...especially if you miss school. In language, all classes are continuing their novels and their work in grammar. 8th grade should be working during study hall (and some at home) on their college reports that are due May 3. Yes! That means their written reports are due right after they get back from their 8th grade trip. I have encouraged them all to have their reports done BEFORE they leave. That's all I have for now. April 19-23, is ITBS Testing Week for Grades 2-8 in the mornings!

What can you do to help your student be ready for testing week? Plenty!  Make sure your student has a healthy breakfast! It’s hard to do your best thinking when your tummy is growling! Remember, we offer nutritious breakfasts in the cafeteria each morning between 7:45 – 8:05 a.m. for $2.25.  Please avoid any doctor/dentist/etc. appointments during the morning hours. It is a tremendous distraction to your student, as well as the other students in the class, to have students pulled out during the middle of a test.  Students should have 5 sharpened pencils WITH an eraser (not mechanical).  Testing typically starts at 8:30 a.m. sharp, so please be sure your student is on time. A tardy student is a distraction to a whole class of testing students; a great way to avoid this, would be to be on time! As a reminder, classroom doors open at 8:10 a.m. each morning, and school begins/attendance is taken at 8:20 a.m. Students who arrive tardy will be admitted to their classrooms after the current test is finished.

Long story short: eat a healthy breakfast, be on time, and don’t check out early! Thanks for your cooperation!
