The deadline for the ENROLLMENT FEE DISCOUNT is April 30! To get the discount, please have your entire enrollment fee paid off by April 30. You can mail a check, drop one in the black drop box out front, bring a check or cash in to the office, or call the office at 580-762-9950 to run your credit card over the phone.

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK is May 2-6, 2022. A schedule is attached and remember…we have a list of each teachers’ likes/dislikes in the office; stop by to take a look!

STUDENT COUNCIL NEEDS-RAISER / CONTEST FOR HUMANE SOCIETY: The Student Council has chosen to help the animals at the Ponca City Humane Society, and we need your help!

We are having a "Needs-Raiser" next week from Monday, May 2 - Monday, May 9. Yes, that's the same week as Teacher Appreciation! Along with your items for your teacher, grab one of the following "needs" for the Humane Society:  Puppy Pads  Kitten food (dry and wet)  Toys  Treats –1–

The class who collects the most items will earn an ice cream/sundae party during the last week of school.

Each item collected will earn 1 point. Keep your items in your homeroom class. On Tuesday, May 10th, stuco will come to each class and collect your items. The winner will be announced during chapel on May 11th, and we will set up a good time with the winning class's teacher for your ice cream party!

1st – 8th GRADE TRACK MEET MAY 6: The yearly track meet is approaching fast. This is the time each year that we host other Lutheran Schools from Northern Oklahoma to OUR campus for a day of physical and academic competition and fellowship for students in 1st grade and up (younger students may come and watch, but not participate). This years’ track meet will be held on Friday, May 6, and activities will be held both at PoHi’s stadium across the street (morning events) and on our campus (afternoon events). We invite you to make plans now to attend the track meet with your kids’, cheer on all of the students, and lend a hand as we host the other schools.

Please contact the office or Coach Amanda if you can help out for an hour (or longer) by assisting with events, assisting with bee’s, writing winning names on ribbons, sorting ribbons by school, etc.

NOTE!!!, the kids will spend a lot of time outside, so be sure to send/bring sunscreen for the kids to apply/reapply during the day, and send a jacket if it is a cool morning (with their name on it of course). Our middle school will be running a concession stand, with the proceeds going to fund their trip to Washington D.C. next year. Be sure to send money with your student if they wish to purchase lunch or drinks/snacks at the concession stand/if they choose school lunch, it will be PB&J. You are, of course, welcome to send a lunch in a disposable bag.

If you need to pick up your student early on this day, please come extra early and be prepared to search for them on the high school football field. Be aware that the office may not be staffed continuously through the day, as we will be at the track meet part of the day. Please leave a message and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

Student’s will be dismissed at the end of the days’ activities, so they will be looking for a ride home around 2:00-ish.

Mark Your Calendars: Friday evening - May 13 will be our SCHOOL MUSICAL & PTL AUCTION. We will also have a free-will donation Potato Bar with proceeds going to Connie's cancer treatment expenses. See attached for more details.

REPORT CARD PICKUP for Pre-school through 8th Grade is Friday, May 27; we will be closed for lunch at 1:00; closed for the day at 3:00. If you can’t make this day, you can stop by another day the next week; just call to make sure we are here. Remember to check your accounts; Report cards, certificates, & testing results will NOT be given out to families with a past due balance, or money owed for missing library books, etc. You may make payments and catch up your accounts on report card pickup day.

If you are leaving us with a credit in any of your accounts and wish to leave it to a needy family, talk with Connie in the office and she’ll make sure it gets (anonymously) to the account of a school family who can use the help.

Mr. Birnbaum: Fifteen days of school left. So much to do and so little time but I know it will all be over soon. I pray that we will all continue to GROW at FIRST and know His peace and love. CHRIST has RISEN! CARDINAL CARE – Ms. Vap: Planning Ahead - Inservice Days for the Daycare will be May 25th, 26th, and 27th.

We want to give parents plenty of advance notice to make other childcare arrangements for those days, as we prepare the building for Summer Care and complete necessary training requirements. Daycare will be available May 19th, 20th, 23th, and 24th. Sign up sheets will be posted next week for those days. Summer daycare will begin on May 31 for those who are enrolled.

LIBRARY – Mrs. Manning: May 3rd will be the last day to check out a book in the 2-8th library. Overdue slips will be going home soon! Good places to check for missing items are under beds, under car seats, and home bookshelves. Lost / un-returned books will need to be replaced or paid for before report cards may be picked up.

BAND – Mrs. Brey: BAND - We have a rehearsal at St. Mary's on Monday, May 2nd at 3:45-4:30pm! Please make sure your child is there for this rehearsal, and let me know if they will need a ride. Additionally, our concert is coming up on May 10th at 5:30pm! Students will need to wear black pants, black shoes, and a white or black top. Thank you! MUSIC  – Mrs. Brey: Middle school music classes are learning about jazz music and its origins. They are also working on our Spring Musical, which is coming up on May 13th! Reminder that ALL 6th - 8th graders are involved in this musical, and it is part of their final grade for music. Come support these students, grab some dinner with us, and stay for our auction!

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Daine: Greetings from Washington D.C.! I am on the 8th grade field trip, but the kids are in good hands with Ms. Darleanna and Ms. Amy. Thank you ladies for subbing for me!

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: This week we are reviewing the letters S through W, also practicing writing our names.

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: Happy Birthday celebration Hattie! It’s hard to believe it is the last week of April! Our last book order of the year is due to me or online by Friday. We are continuing our alphabet countdown to summer with pajama day tomorrow for the letter Pp, Rock and Roll day for the letter Rr on Friday, and sunglasses day on Monday for the letter SS. Our final Letter Challenge assessment will be on Monday. I am planning to take the class over to the track meet next Friday to watch if you would like to join us. Look for the note in folders today. Our Bible words this week are: Continue in what you have learned. 2 Timothy 3:14 . We are reviewing the letters Nn-Rr. Have a blessed week!

KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: I am going to be gone for a bit because I am having surgery in Stillwater tomorrow (your prayers are appreciated). The substitute will be Lindsay Freeman, who is an awesome teacher! I know your children will be in great hands! Thank you for understanding this and have a wonderful week!

FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Memory work for Friday is the 9th Commandment - You shall not covet your neighbor's house. Friday will be our last show and tell. You may share a special talent or share something funny (funny hat, tell a joke, funny picture....). Our class field trip will be on May 12 - I will send out permission forms next Monday. If you have not turned in the yellow track meet note, please do so by tomorrow! Happy birthday to Cassius tomorrow, April 28. Blessings on your week!

SECOND GRADE – Ms. Felton: Wow, we are approaching the end of the school year quickly! Check the dates on the front page of the chatter for upcoming school events. We have our field trip this Friday to the Wichita Zoo. Make sure that your child has either packed lunch or money for lunch…and probably a rain jacket also. Memory will be Philippians 4:13 - a simple and easy one for this week. Spelling is Week 13: words with suffixes. New content includes acrostic poems, facts and opinions, and antonyms. Science throughout the rest of the school year will be animals, experiments, and STEM. Social studies will be finishing economics with a test next Thursday, then review. AR GOALS are coming up! This week I have been encouraging students to read at least one book at home every night, along with reading a chapter book - not a graphic novel - by the end of the year. I encourage you to have them read a chapter or two out loud to you every day.

Reading out loud increases their comprehension and allows you to engage in some of their schoolwork!

THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: Fifteen more days! I know everyone is getting itchy for summer; please hang in there with me. I have noticed some grades are slipping, we do not have much more to go. Please check homework each night, the load should be less. This week: Spelling, Language, and Memory are tested on Friday. Science is tested on Thursday. I review should be at home already. This is over rocks and minerals. Book Report: The first part of our project is due next Wednesday (5/4). Once you get it done, please just bring it in and I will mark it ask complete and send it back.

Look for information next week on when you all are invited to the wax museum. Field Trip: Please make sure the forms are returned back to me ASAP. Also, put the Track Meet next Friday on your calendar. We will move our spelling test to Thursday. Two more spelling test left for the year!! A.R. we are running out of time. Please ask your child where they are to meet their goals. Some of us could you a bit of time at home reading. Have a wonderful week!!

FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: Our eggpected hatching for more life in the classroom is next week. Oh we are so eggcited! The last book orders are due no later than Wednesday the 4th. Continue to read for AR. Some have made or are really close to making their goal. Many have found that without nightly reading at home, it can be difficult to make goals ending on May 10th! The end of the year is right around the corner; please encourage the kids to be the best they can be to finish the year up strong as we are definitely 5th graders in training! Some are taking to this challenge very well. Fast Direct has all grades and missing work updated. Make sure we are not going to summer break too early. I am always here for a conversation for student success. Blessing as we focus on Christ and the blessings He has given to us.

5th GRADE RELIGION – Mrs. Brey: Students have been working on affirmations for one another, and we will be discussing the Fruits of the Spirit starting on Thursday. We have memory work due on Friday, which is Proverbs 3:5-6.

5th Grade & Middle School Po-Hi Sports Tryouts are as follows:  Volleyball will have open gym May 2 from 5-7 p.m. (You must have a physical on file to participate)  Girls Basketball tryouts will be May 2 at 6:00 p.m. @ Robson field House –3–

 Boys Basketball tryouts will be May 3 at 4:00 p.m. @ Robson Field House  Girls Softball tryouts will be May 5 from 5-7 p.m. @ the Softball Field at West Middle School  Tryouts for Volleyball will be May 10, 5-7 p.m. @ Robson Field House 6th – 8th MATH – Mr. McKinley: 6th and 7th this week we are reviewing percent equations and then working with discounts, markups, tax, tips, and eventually simple interest.

7th and 8th this week we are using the Pythagorean theorem to find lengths of right triangle sides. Later in the week we will work on finding the angle degrees of the triangles.

SCIENCE – Mrs. Porter-Cain: 5th – 7th grades are working in weather! What better time to study weather in Oklahoma!

Athletics: Our Lutheran track meet is quickly approaching! I still need volunteers! Contact me if you’d like to help!

LANGUAGE – Ms. Kester: Thanks to everyone who wished me a happy birthday with hugs, flowers, balloons, gift certificates, streamers, chocolates, and cookie cake! They were awesome surprises. My homeroom enjoyed my special day with me, and I am so happy I got to spend it with them.

For the rest of this week, English students will take Literature quizzes and submit their reading logs. Their grammar tests have been moved to next week. Religion students are learning the excellence of Daniel and the incomparable wisdom of God. As we near the end of the school year (unbelievable!), seventh graders are looking forward to the track meet, musical, auction, and year-end party. Encourage them to end the year strong! They can do it!

SOCIAL STUDIES – Mr. Brey: 5th-7th grade: Students are working on their big project for the year. If they have questions, I'm checking private comments on Google classroom twice a day during the trip. All projects are due Monday unless specified!

Teacher Appreciation Week May 2-6, 2022 Help us show our appreciation for all that our teachers do for our children!

Thank you for all of your encouragement to our staff through the year, and especially during this special week.

Monday – You are a Sweet Treat!

Bring a sweet treat item for your teacher. (On Tuesday, May 3, we will have a luncheon for the teachers in the school Cardinal Room at 11:15. You can bring your item to the school office today, but have your name on your container to that we can get it back to you. If you could help

watch students from 11 – 12:30 while the teachers have lunch together with Ms. Connie, we would greatly appreciate it!)

Tuesday – Give yourself a BREAK! Bring a little something for the teacher luncheon on Tuesday, May 3, by 11:15 to the Cardinal Room, or consider a gift card for the teacher to get themselves something later in the week.

Wednesday – Our students are BLOOMING because of you!

Pick some flowers and bring them to your teacher. Each unique flower represents the unique student in their class.

Thursday – Throw Back Thursday!

Give a WORD of encouragement to your child’s current or past teacher(s) letting them know how much you appreciate everything they have done for your child.

Friday – Thanks for taking STOCK in our students!

Let’s fill up our teachers’ supplies! Bring pens, pencils, tape, white out, post-its, paperclips, highlighters, markers, stickers, or any other neat teacher supplies.
