ITBS TESTING WEEK is THIS WEEK!!!!!, April 19-23; Students will be testing in the mornings during this week. Students who arrive late will not be admitted into a classroom until the class finishes testing in progress.

And now, it’s time for the CARDINAL SHOUTOUT; a place for us to recognize how talented and diversified our students are!

Isabella Strassle and Lauren King won 2nd and 3rd place in the Daughters of the American Revolution’s American History Essay Contest! CONGRATULATIONS! We also celebrate First Lutheran School current and former students for their magnificent performances in the play “Oklahoma”!: Adysan Connelly, Kade Burkett, Gabby Costello, Kylie Flowers, Abby Garrison, Jaclyn Heitman, Janie Heitman, Jordyn Heitman, Porter Hunt, Kylie Kozarevich, Kate Shepherd, Kaden Swords, and Lauren Zimmerman.

PRAYERS ARE APPRECIATED for all of our field trippers this time of year. Always, please be praying for our ECE, elementary, and middle school students and chaperones as they visit sites near home, and our 8th graders and chaperones as they begin their week-long trip on Monday to a variety of stops, culminating in Mount Rushmore! We pray for safe travels, lots of learning, and memories that will last a lifetime. (SEND PICTURES!) MISSING MASKS: We have a collection of found masks in the office. They have been laundered. Please come by and see if any of them are yours/your kids.

SCHATTE MEMORIAL EXTRAVAGANZA: We invite our church & school families and the Ponca City community to join us Saturday, May 1st in the FLS parking lot for live music, scavenger hunt, vendors, and a BBQ Cookoff! Do all your Mother’s Day and graduation shopping in one place while tasting some of the best BBQ around! Tasting kits can be purchased for $12 the day of the event – no need to purchase in advance! I SAW THAT!: Pictures…we know you are taking them…we see them on Facebook! But we can’t download them from there, because the resolution is too low. PLEASE! Put field trip & random school pictures on a flash drive, write your name on it, and give it to Ms. Connie in the office or Mrs. Steichen. We’ll download the pics and send the flash drive back home. If you want to see pictures of your child in the yearbook, this is how they will get there! (If you have pictures of classmates, we want those, too!)

FREDDY’S NIGHT is Thursday, April 29 from 3:30 – 7:30 p.m. All you have to do is have dinner at Freddy’s! When the cashier is ready to take your order, tell them you are there in support of First Lutheran School, and Freddy’s will donate 15% of your purchases (on that day, during those hours) on dine-in, carryout and drive-thru orders (sorry, not valid with online/delivery orders). Tell your friends, family, neighbors, and complete strangers. It doesn’t cost you anything more than the cost of your dinner!

FLS TRACK MEET, 1ST-8TH GRADES, MAY 7, 10:00 – 2:00!: The yearly track meet is approaching fast. 1st grade and up will participate in a school-wide track meet, competing against their classmates in physical competition. This year all activities will take place on our campus. On the day of the track meet, you are encouraged to attend and we ask you lend a hand if possible; please contact the office if you can help out for an hour or more.

The kids will spend time outside, so be sure to apply and send sunscreen for the kids to apply during the day if it’s going to be sunny, and send a jacket/hoodie if it is a cool morning (with their name in it of course). Our 7th graders will be running a concession stand, with the proceeds going to fund their trip to Washington D.C. next year. Send money with your student if they wish to purchase lunch or drinks/snacks at the concession stand. If you have doctor appointments scheduled that day and need to pick up your student, please come extra early as it will take time to track down your student at their events. Students have the option of leaving at the end of afternoon events, at approximately 2:00 p.m. Please check out with your student’s homeroom teacher before leaving.

CHAPEL OFFERINGS FOR THE 4TH QUARTER will be going to assist Camp Lutherhoma in Tahlequah.

SUMMER DAYCARE PACKETS are available in the office and in daycare. If you want your child to attend summer daycare, you must sign up; we have limited space available. PS3 and under, if you didn’t return the blue / green sheet with your choice, please confirm with Ms. Heidi or Connie in the office to make sure you are on the list.

DAYCARE NEEDS: If you have a high chair lying around that you aren’t using, or girls clothes, sizes 2-4T, please consider donating them to daycare. Thank you!

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE… HELP US FIND THE RIGHT PERSON FOR YOUR KIDS: – First Lutheran School is looking for help in daycare, for the summer and for the school year. In addition to being 18 or older, able to be fingerprinted and pass a background test, applicants also need to have a positive attitude, be dependable, and have a personality, language, and behavior (and facebook page) that is appropriate when working with children. They need to be physically able to pick up small children to change diapers and as needed, and be willing to work with children of all ages. You may direct questions to Ms. Heidi Daley on FastDirect or at 580-762-1124 or by calling the school office at 580-762-9950, stop by the school or daycare office to get an application, or print your own at www.fastdir.com/flcspc under the “links” tab on the left. Please pass the word to relatives, neighbors, college students, etc. who you think would work well with children.

A BEST FRIEND HAPPENING is scheduled for Saturday, April 24, 2021, 8am-11:30am for all the mothers, grandmothers, daughters, & friends. This event is sponsored by LWML. Mark your calendars and see details below.

RE-ENROLLMENT REMINDER: Are you coming back in August?! We need to know! Enrollment is now open to the public for next school year! Attached to a prior Chatter were your enrollment papers for the 2021/2022 school year; you can print an additional copy from the “links” tab on FastDirect, or stop by the office to get a new one. To hold your students’ spot for next school year, be sure to return your enrollment forms and 1/3 of the enrollment fee (if applicable). We are still limiting class sizes due to COVID, and some classes were already full this year, so please don’t wait until the last minute to let us know if you plan to return next year.

If you know a family new to First Lutheran School that is interested in enrolling, have them call the school office for enrollment information. If they have a student in 1st – 6th grades, make sure to ask them to list you as a referring family on their enrollment sheet. If they remain enrolled through the first semester, in January of 2022 you will receive a $200 PRINCIPAL – Mr. Birnbaum: 20 days of school left and so much to do! ITBS tests this week. Schatte BBQ cookoff Extravaganza. Teacher Appreciation week in two weeks with luncheon, National Day of Prayer, and Track Meet. "Thank You for your service" on Sunday - May 16 for Powell, Schatte, Hanson, Harbeson, and Amber, besides hiring teachers and working on Graduation events. Stay informed!

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: This week in Preschool we are learning all about the letter O and the sound it makes. We will be celebrating Earth Day Thursday learning all about it and doing a cool art project. Have a great week!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: As I'm writing this, I am praying for good weather for our field trip! I know we had a great day learning about planting and growing food! Thank you to the parents that were able to go and drive other students! Next week is our last week of our April reading challenge. All reading slips are due to me by May 3 rd. We are trying to fill our bulletin board with reading slips to earn a reading celebration. There are more slips in folders today.

Our last book order of the year is in folders and is due back to me or online on May 7th. Our Bible words this week are, Jesus said, "I am with you always." Keep working on those letter names and sounds. I will be assessing sounds next week. Have a Blessed Week!

KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: We are getting low on snacks again, so please have your child bring anything they want for snacks to school and if they don't we just won't have snacks. We have 12 kids in the class. Cereal is great because it would last for several snacks (any type). Thank you for your help on this issue! Your kids love snack time! Also, thank you for helping your children learn their sight words this year; we do them in school but the extra help at home really helps. They are becoming great readers! Our Bible words this week are "Jesus said, I am with you always."

FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Memory for Friday is the 8th Commandment - You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor. It's hard to believe that we only have a half quarter left of 1st grade! These kids are doing great and are getting ready to be 2nd graders! Field trip note and form were sent home yesterday. Please return by next Tue, April 27. Book orders were sent home today. This will be our last book order of the year, so think about having books to read over the summer! You may order online or a check to me by Thursday, April 29. Please see note in the chatter about the upcoming Track Meet day. Blessings on your week!

SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: Chilly April Greetings! It's snowing outside and there are flowers blooming!

We're well on our way to completing achievement tests. The children seem to be doing quite well with the change in routine. We won't be doing regular math or spelling this week. Hope no one is too disappointed! Thank you so much for all of the nutritious snacks you sent for brain power. We LOVE them and you! Blessings!

THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: Well, testing week is upon us. The kids are doing AMAZING!! I am so proud of all their hard work this week. Thank you also, for all the waters, and treats. They have made our breaks fun and our tummies happy. This week: Memory Colossians 3:2; due by Friday. Book Reports: Remember the notes pages to our reports were due today. The next due date is the 28th. Please let me know if you have any questions. As we get closer I will send out a note for the Wax Museum part. Next Week: next week we will be back to normal with paragraphs, weekly test, and math. The end is in sight.

FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: We are well underway for our ITBS. Please keep praying for the kids as they finish testing. Continue to have the kids get plenty of sleep and eat a good breakfast before coming to school. THANK YOU for all of the yummy snacks and water. Encouraging notes are always a nice boost of confidence while we give our best effort. We are flying through the 4th quarter; we are half way there! Mid Quarters went home today, please have the half slip signed by Friday. We are being 5th graders in training. This is a challenge; some are really stepping up to the plate and others need more guidance. Planners and Fast Direct are the best tools to have a successful end of the year.

NO need for late work in the last days of school! I am always here for any questions. We have candled some of our many eggs today. Ask the kids how it went. Hatching should happen around May 5th. Make sure you are looking at Wax Museum papers; the main part of the project is right around the corner. Continue to read for AR. Some have made or are really close to making their goal. Many have found that without nightly reading at home, it can be difficult to make goals. Goals end May 7th! Blessings as we focus on Christ.

FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: Testing is going well. I know it's stressful for the kids. There is not much regular work this week, but we continue to learn. It's a great week to review and reflect on what we've learned this year. Next week we will return to our regular schedule. Blessings!

MIDDLE SCHOOL F.L.Y. – Mrs. Heitman: Tonight 5:30 to 7:30. See attached TENTATIVE summer schedule.

8TH GRADE PARENTS – MRS. SCOTT: 8th Grade parents, please remember we have our final meeting THIS Thursday, 6pm, in my math classroom. I need at least one person from your vehicle to be at the meeting.

Mrs. Hanson: ITBS is going well! I'm sure all of our wonderful students passed with flying colors!!

When we finish with ITBS tests all classes will need to have a science test on Friday. We actually have plenty of time in our afternoons to prep and make sure we are ready for it, plus we have been learning and working with the content for weeks now, so everyone will do great!

6th and 7th grade field trip info has gone home!! Please return permission slip and payment by Friday; Monday at the very latest.

When we return we will be in THE final stretch! This is NOT the time to relax or give up, this is the time to buckle down, sprint it out, and finish strong!

Ms. Kester: For the remainder of this week, students are finishing ITBS testing during History classes, digging into Moses and Joseph in G7 and G6 respectively, and having fun with verbs in the form of charades in French. I will be out next week with G8 on their awesome school trip. During that time, History classes will work on their Creative Option projects due the last day of April. I look forward to receiving them. Take care!

Mrs. Harbeson: Hello, Everyone! I hope you all are well. As I write, all middle school students are completing the ITBS tests. So far, things have gone smoothly. Today marks mid-quarter of our final quarter of school. If grades are not where they should be, you have 4 1/2 weeks to get them there. Handing in assignments on time and completing all assignments seem to be the culprits for most students whose grades are below what they should be! 8th grade will be attending their OSU trip this Friday. Thank you to the parents who will be accompanying us! 8th grade will also be taking their Mount Rushmore trip next week. I pray you all have a fun, educational, and memorable trip! Teacher Appreciation Week May 3-7, 2021 Help us show our appreciation for all that our teachers do for our children!

Thank you for all of your encouragement to our staff through the year, and especially during this special week.

Monday – Our students are BLOOMING because of you!

Pick some flowers and bring them to your teacher. Each unique flower represents the unique student in their class.

Tuesday – Take a BREAK, FAST! Bring a breakfast or brunch item for your teacher or something for the whole staff. Tomorrow we will have a luncheon for the staff in the church fellowship hall from 11 to 12:30. You can bring your item by the school office today, but have your name on your container to that we can get it back to you.

Wednesday – It is a TREAT to have you as a teacher!

Bring a little something for the staff luncheon today from 11 – 12:30 or consider a gift card for the teacher to get themselves something later in the week.

Thursday – Throw Back Thursday!

Give a WORD of encouragement to your child’s current or past teacher(s) letting them know how much you appreciate everything they have done for your child.

Friday – Thanks for taking STOCK in our students!

Let’s fill up our teachers’ supplies! Bring pens, pencils, tape, white out, post-its, paperclips, highlighters, markers, stickers, or any other neat teacher supplies.
