JOKE OF THE WEEK: Welcome back to the joke of the week! Let's celebrate: Christ has Risen! Hallelujah! Now what you have been waiting for the last seven weeks: What stories does the Easter Bunny tell his children? – Ones with hoppy endings! The deadline for the ENROLLMENT FEE DISCOUNT is April 30! To get the discount, please have your entire enrollment fee paid off by April 30. You can mail a check, drop one in the black drop box out front, bring a check or cash in to the office, or call the office at 580-762-9950 to run your credit card over the phone. OFFICE SUB?: I am searching for someone who can sub for me for maybe an hour or 4 at a time while I am at doctor appointments or not feeling well, who is experienced in Word and Excel. I don’t think it will be often, but I need some options for when it happens. If you know your way around a computer and are willing to consider subbing in the office, please call or send me a FastDirect. You can of course always say no if the timing doesn’t fit your plans for the day. FREDDY’S NIGHT! Tonight, Wednesday, April 20, from 3:30 – 7:30 p.m. is Freddy’s Night! All you have to do is have dinner at Freddy’s! When the cashier is ready to take your order, tell them you are there in support of First Lutheran School, and Freddy’s will donate a portion of your purchase to the school! Tell your friends, family, neighbors, and complete strangers. It doesn’t cost you anything more than the cost of your dinner! TRACK MEET MAY 6: The yearly track meet is approaching fast. This is the time each year that we host other Lutheran Schools from Northern Oklahoma to OUR campus for a day of physical and academic competition and fellowship for students in 1st grade and up (younger students may come and watch, but not participate). This years’ track meet will be held on Friday, May 6, and activities will be held both at PoHi’s stadium across the street (morning events) and on our campus (afternoon events). We invite you to make plans now to attend the track meet with your –1–
kids’, cheer on all of the students, and lend a hand as we host the other schools. Please contact the office or Coach Amanda if you can help out for an hour (or longer) by assisting with events, assisting with bee’s, writing winning names on ribbons, sorting ribbons by school, etc. NOTE!!!, the kids will spend a lot of time outside, so be sure to send/bring sunscreen for the kids to apply/reapply during the day, and send a jacket if it is a cool morning (with their name on it of course). Our middle school will be running a concession stand, with the proceeds going to fund their trip to Washington D.C. next year. Be sure to send money with your student if they wish to purchase lunch or drinks/snacks at the concession stand/if they choose school lunch, it will be PB&J. You are, of course, welcome to send a lunch in a disposable bag. If you need to pick up your student early on this day, please come extra early and be prepared to search for them on the high school football field. Be aware that the office may not be staffed continuously through the day, as we will be at the track meet part of the day. Please leave a message and we will get back to you as soon as we can. Student’s will be dismissed at the end of the days’ activities, so they will be looking for a ride home around 2:00-ish. Mark Your Calendars: Friday evening - May 13 will be our SCHOOL MUSICAL AND PTL AUCTION. We will also have a free-will donation Potato Bar with proceeds going to Connie's cancer treatment expenses. Watch for more details. TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK is May 2-6, 2022. A schedule will come out later, but fyi…we have a list of each teachers’ likes/dislikes in the office; stop by to take a look! The SCHATTE MEMORIAL COOKOFF: May 7th we’ll be hosting our 3rd annual Schatte Memorial Cookoff! MUSIC – Mrs. Brey: Middle school students are getting ready for our Spring musical! We will be focusing on this for the next few weeks. PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Daine: I hope everyone had a wonderful Resurrection Sunday! We are going to study insects and spiders this week and next! Our letters will be B, I, and S. Have a blessed rest of the week! PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: I hope everyone had a nice Easter Break! Thank you to all the parents that went on the Easter egg hunt with us, and those that drove extra children. They had a blast! This week we are reviewing the letters O through R. Have an awesome week! PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: He is Risen! I hope you had a wonderful Easter weekend celebrating our Savior! Our last book order of the year is in folders today and due back to me by Friday, April 29 th. Keep practicing the alphabet for our letter challenge. Our Bible words this week are, Jesus is not here, for He has risen Matthew 28:6 We are reviewing the letters J-M. Have a Blessed week! KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: What a blessed Easter! He has risen! We all have so much to be thankful for and one thing I am thankful for, are all of your children! Thank you for sharing them with me this year. We are working on letter Qq this week along with our daily reading and sight words. Please keep working on your child's sight words because this 9-week period word set is challenging. Have a wonderful week! FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Happy Easter! He is risen! Alleluia! Memory for Friday is the 8th Commandment - You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor. Mark your calendars for our track meet day on May 6. I hope that you will be able to join us for this fun day! Also, mark your calendar for Thursday, May 12. We will have our 1st grade end of the school year trip to 5th Street Park and Braum's for Ice Cream! (We will leave school around 11:15.) Blessings on your week as we continue to celebrate our Risen Lord! SECOND GRADE – Ms. Felton: Happy Easter! Christ has died, is risen, and will come again! Memory next week will be Luther’s Morning Prayer due on Thursday - this is a longer one, so start studying early. Spelling words will be week 11 and that test will also be on Thursday, since we will be on our zoo field trip all of Friday! We are learning about plants and animals in science and will have a test next Thursday. In social studies we are exploring economics, with a test in two weeks. Culture presentations are due on Friday. Writing-we are writing the final draft of our culture essay. This –2–
week we will begin another rough draft. We are also exploring poetry and finding synonyms. In math, we are entering the concepts of estimating and multiplying, which is why we need our subtraction to be confident! THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: He has Risen! I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter and celebrating our risen Lord. This Week: Spelling, 7x quiz, Language quiz, and Memory all on Friday. Spelling: au, augh, ou, ough patterns. Math: 7x quiz. We have been listening to a video in class to learn them. We are almost done, 8 and 9 are left. Language: How to write an address. Memory: Romans 1:16. Reading: We have started our last chapter book How to Eat Fried Worms. We will finish this up next week. Social Studies: Finishing up our in-class slides project. These are due on Thursday. Science: We will be working on rocks. Look for a test over this chapter next week. Book Report: The notes page is due by May 4th. Let me know if you have any questions. FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: Welcome back after celebrating Easter with an EMPTY tomb! Many have made or come really close to making this larger AR goal ending in May. Way to go! Midterms went home today. Make sure you sign the half-slip of paper and return in two days. There is still time to improve anything unwanted by the end of the year. Fast Direct is a great tool to use to not be caught off guard. Tonight, is also Freddie’s Night for Lutheran! On Tuesday we candled our eggs; ask kids the result of this fun activity. Normal tests are all on track for the rest of the week. We would be nowhere without Him. Blessings as you bless others this week! 5th GRADE RELIGION – Mrs. Brey: Christ is risen! We are wrapping up our devotions, which are due on Friday, April 22! Many of the students will be gone that day for track, so make sure it's turned in! Additionally, memory work (Jeremiah 29:11) is due on Thursday, April 21.
5th Grade & Middle School 6th – 8th MATH – Mr. McKinley: 6th and 7th will be working on percent as it relates to circles, discounts, markups, sales tax and tips. 7th and 8th will be working with square roots, right angles, and the Pythagorean theorem. SCIENCE – Mrs. Porter-Cain: Happy Easter everyone! I am so thankful that He is Risen! 5th grade Science- is going to be exploring Food Webs this week! 6th grade Science- will finish up reviewing how temperature changes molecule movement! 7th Grade Science- will be doing a little more exploration on rocks, gems and minerals and we will head to Wichita on Friday for a field trip covering these topics! 8th Grade Science- Tuesday we took 8th grade to OSU! Mrs. Harbeson gave us a great tour! I think the kids enjoyed it! This week we will be making sure all Science work is turned in and not missing. We will also be looking at the Science behind a couple things we will be seeing next week on our trip to Philadelphia! We leave Sunday morning, bright and early so please keep us in your prayers for safe travel! PE classes are based around our track meet practice! Our track meet is quickly approaching! Middle school parents- be watching for volunteer opportunities to come out soon! Hope everyone has a blessed week! GO CARDS! LANGUAGE – Ms. Kester: English classes are preparing for next week's tests and reading the assigned sections for their upcoming Literature quizzes. Reading logs are due next Friday. Religion classes are unpacking Romans 12:1-2, which is their memory work for April 29, and discussing how the story of Daniel relates to it. High School Musical, Jr., rehearsals are ramping up and showcasing the great talent we have at the school. Mark your calendars for May 13, as students are sure to shine. SOCIAL STUDIES – Mr. Brey: 5th Grade: Students have been exploring topics of interest in the "Wild West" and have an assignment due Thursday. 6th Grade: Students are learning about basic economics. We will be having a quiz on Wednesday. 7th grade: See 6th Grade, but the quiz is on Monday. 8th Grade: We are wrapping up WWI and will be going to the buildup of WWII this week.
