And now, it’s time for the CARDINAL SHOUTOUT; a place for us to recognize how talented and diversified our students are! Middle School read a chapter a day from the Bible book of Luke and took the Accelerated Reading test. 1st place went to Kyle King, 2nd was Jessica Goad, 3rd - Lauren King, 4th tie between Braden Barney & Trinity Burden, 5th was Timothy Crank. CONGRATULATIONS!!! Kaylynn Archibeque was a great example of thinking more of others when she donated a length of her hair to Locks for Love.

Kyle King came in in the top 100 in the State Geography Bee! We are proud of you all!

SPRING BREAK DAYCARE SIGN-UPS: The sign-up sheets for Friday March 13th for the half day dismissal and for Spring Break daycare (March 16-20) are out...the last day to sign up will be March 6th.

RE-ENROLLMENT GIVE-AWAY WINNER!: We had the drawing on Monday for each 1/3 enrollment fee that we have received, and Rebekah and Nathan Koch are our winners of a $25 gift card! Rebekah and Nathan, one of you please stop by the office sometime this week or next and choose your gift card!

For those of you that missed out, we are going to do it again! If you enroll by the end of March, you will get one entry into a drawing for a $25 Gift Card for each 1/3 of the enrollment fee that you pay by the date of the drawing. (An enrollment fee paid in full = 3 entries for the drawing.) Those of you that were enrolled by the end of February will also be entered into this additional chance to win! SIGNING DAY/OPEN HOUSE: We invite you to attend our signing day (sign intent to re-enroll) on Monday, March 9 from 3:30 to 5:30. IF you bring a new family on that date and they enroll in our 1st-6th grade in the next six months, you will get a $50 Walmart Card in an addition to the $200 credit on your tuition in January if they remain enrolled through the fall semester.

2ND – 6TH GRADE SINGING AT FLCS THIS SUNDAY! – MRS. SCHELP: We will be kicking off National Lutheran Schools Week in our Sunday morning worship service (this Sunday, March 8). All 2nd through 6th graders have been working on the theme hymn for National Lutheran Schools Week in music class and are invited to help us sing it at the beginning of the worship service. SURVEY NEEDED - Ladies/Gentlemen, every five years our school goes through an accreditation process to maintain State and National Accreditation standings. The survey has questions based on the seven accreditation standards. Please take time to complete the survey that was attached to last weeks’ chatter, is available in the office, or you may follow the link that was sent via fastdirect to all parents. WE GREATLY APPRECIATE YOUR INPUT!!!

GREAT DAYS OF SERVICE are days set aside to perform service acts for others. They are scheduled for Saturday, March 28 and Sunday, March 29. On March 28, we will be assisting the Marshal Island Assembly of God Church with a couple of projects. They participated in our Christmas Market and as a "thank you" we will be assisting them with a couple of church repair projects. To volunteer with that or any of our service projects, please contact the school office.

DINNER-ENTERTAINMENT AND AUCTION HERE on Friday, April 3 from 5:30 to 8:00. Paul Schatte BBQ, baked potatoes, BBQ beans, drink, and dessert for $10 prepaid in advance only ($15 at the door).

FLS STUDENTS IN K-8 ARE PARTICIPATING IN THE KIDS HEART CHALLENGE: Way to go students collecting money for the Kids Heart Challenge! You all have collected over $1,300 so far. We are still taking donations both online and physical through March 12th. Big prizes will come after Spring Break.

PRINCIPAL – Mr. Birnbaum: Only one week left in this quarter and we are already working on plans for next school year. We are hoping to add creative play to our elementary playground. If you have suggestions or connections to raise funds for this $40K project, we would GREATLY appreciate it.

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: This week we are learning all about the letter Y and the sound it makes. Book orders are due by Friday. Have a great week!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Gillespie: What a wonderful week we have had!! Thank you so much for the birthday wishes, amazing gifts and love shown on my birthday!! It was a great day!

We will finish the week with Thursday Crazy Socks/Mustache day and Friday Wear Red and Blue. Friday is also Show and Tell. Next week is Lutheran Schools Week; check Chatter for dress up days.

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: Happy Birthday Brooks and Dr. Seuss! We are having a great time celebrating Dr. Seuss and reading this week! Next week we will start our Spring reading challenge. Look for more information in folders next week! Tomorrow is Crazy sock/Mustache day, and Friday is Red and Blue Day. Lutheran Schools week is also next week. Look for the special dress up days in the Chatter. Show and Tell is TOMORROW (Thursday). Book orders are due to me or online on Friday. Our Bible words this week are Jesus said, "Learn from Me." Matthew 11:29 We are doing Dr. Seuss activities and reviewing this week. Have a Blessed Week!

KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: Next week will be "Lutheran Schools Week"! We will have show and tell this Friday on the 6th. Please keep working on your "Monday Folder" homework. I gave you a new word list on Monday and you can start working on it (thank you). We will sing in Church on Sunday, April 5th. Wow, I can't believe Spring Break is coming so fast (16-20) and the fact that it is March! Have an awesome week!

FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Wow! I can't believe that it is March already! Memory work for Friday is the 2nd Commandment - You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God. We will be celebrating Lutheran School's Week next week with lots of fun activities! Special dress up days are listed in the Chatter. Please keep working on your reading.

Read with your child everyday for 15-20 minutes! Have a great rest of the week!

SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: Happy March! Spring is nearly here. We're very excited for warmer weather and for a nice break! Great news! Nearly each of these fine readers has reached his or her AR goal. I'm very proud of the great reading I hear. We are happy to welcome Mea Matthiesen to our classroom. I pray that her time in our classroom will be a blessing for her and all of us. Thank you for bringing pets last Friday. It was a zoo in second grade! Blessings as you continue to ponder Christ's love and sacrifice on our Lenten journey.

THIRD GRADE – Coach Amanda (f/Mrs. Steichen): Happy Birthday (Tuesday) Braxton Scott!!We are working our way through The One and Only Ivan! Spelling test on Friday! Vocab test on Friday! Please make sure your kids have turned in all assignments as we are nearing the end of the quarter! Keep reviewing their mad minutes facts with them please!

FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: See everyone on Sunday as we honor being a part of a Lutheran School on LSW Sunday. Don’t forget to set clocks back this weekend. We will sing praises to God in church. Look for special dress up days for next week. Praise God for the beautiful days He has given us! Make sure that we are reading for our goals.

There are only eight days left in the quarter. Keep Reading! As the quarter winds down quickly make sure that we are staying on top of academics. Planners & FastDirect are great tools to help. Our education to be strong fourth graders to prepare to be fifth graders is not over yet. I am here for any questions. West region is Friday. March book orders are due the 12th of March. FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: We had a fabulous time on our field trip Friday! Thanks to all parents that accompanied us! These students are truly blessed to have such terrific parents (whether you went with us or not). :) We're getting ready to celebrate National Lutheran School's Week next week. Mrs. Sibley, Mrs. Powell and Mr. Schatte have worked really hard to make this a special week for us all. Thank you so much to these people. Memory work for tomorrow is Luke 17:3-4. Blessings!

FIFTH GRADE SCIENCE – Mrs. Hanson: Still focusing on STEM, 5th grade is learning how to problem solve by first learning how to identify "problems". This week we will be working in pairs to find problems in specific areas of life. All this so we can eventually come up with some ingenious solutions to these problems.

MIDDLE SCHOOL FUTURE WASHINGTON D.C. ATTENDEES: If you need to make payments to your D.C. account, please note that you cannot make payments with a credit card. We will, however, accept checks, cash, money orders, etc. Thank you.

FLY NIGHT: All 6th-12th graders are invited to join us for FLY night every Wednesday from 5:30-7:00. We meet in the youth house for dinner and devotions, then head to the gym for games! Please have a ride available to pick you up at 7:00 pm.

Mrs. Scott: General 6th Grade Math took their Chapter 9 Test Retake today. Advanced 6th Grade/General 7th Grade Math finished their Chapter 10 Test on Monday. Test corrections are optional and were due today. Advanced 7th Grade took their Chapter 8 Retest on Monday. 8th Grade Algebra is reviewing for their Chapter 7 Test which will take two days to complete. The first half of the test was taken today. The second half will be taken on Thursday. Advanced Algebra is working on simplifying radicals.

6th Grade Religion: Memory work due today was the Eighth Commandment and its meaning. Memory work due on 3/11 is the Ninth Commandment and its meaning.

Mrs. Hanson: 6th grade is "mixing" it up and will be doing some hands-on activities creating and separating mixtures and will have a vocab quiz Thursday.

7th grade produced some awesome stop motion animations and now we will be mildly transitioning to Stress and Deformation of the Earth's surface with a vocab quiz on Thursday.

8th grade is pumping out some more movie reviews this week as well as studying endothermic vertebrates in hopes to wrap it up this week so we can do some dissections next week before Spring Break.

This is the final haul of the quarter. NOW is the time to bring up the grade by staying on top of work, making up any missed work (if possible) and putting in the hard work to pull out that grade that we all want. Next week is NOT the time for turning in any last minute late work.

Mr. Covert: We’ve made it to March! I hope that everyone is doing well as we’re getting into the Lenten season.

Classes continue to move right along. 8th grade will be wrapping up the Imperial Era in US history, and we’ll be starting World War I this week. In 7th grade, we’re finishing up Central Asia, then taking a break from Asia to go study Australia. As for 6th grade, we’re continuing to work through the Renaissance Era. 8TH GRADE PARENTS! Our payment to the hotel is due. If we don’t make this payment, the entire trip could be jeopardized, so I (or the office) needs the remainder of what you owe by Friday, March 13 at the latest!

Mrs. Harbeson: Hello, Everyone! I hope your week is treating you well. We sure have a lot going on at school this week! With just one week remaining before Spring Break, all classes are winding down. In language, all classes will take their lesson 10 spelling and vocabulary tests next Tuesday; all classes will take a grammar test next Wednesday; and all classes will grade folders next Thursday. If you and your family are leaving early for Spring Break, please get with your teachers and let them know. You will need to complete any missing assignments and/or have tests completed before you leave. That's all for now! Blessings on the rest of your week!

LUTHERAN SCHOOLS WEEK DRESS UP DAYS! Join us March 9-13 as we celebrate the opportunity to be a part of the Nation of Lutheran Schools! Our dress-up days are as follows: Monday, March 9 Tuesday, March 10 Wednesday, March 11

FLS Spirit Day--Wear FLS gear (or red/black/white clothing) Be YOU-NIQUE. Show your individuality that makes you, YOU! The Future You / Red, White, and Blue; Your choice…dress to show us your anticipated hobbies, profession, or passion – OR – dress in red, white, and blue.

Character Day (chapel families choose and plan a character theme for your chapel family) All chapel families wear one color from the flag of your country in the upcoming Chapel Family Olympics (for instance, if your country is Canada, your chapel family would choose to wear either red or white)

March 30 - April 2, is ITBS Testing Week for Grades 2-8 in the mornings!

Make plans now to be ready for testing week!  If you have doctor / dentist / etc. appointments during the morning hours this week, please re-schedule them. It is a tremendous distraction to your student, as well as the others in the class, to have students pulled out during the middle of a test.  They should have multiple sharpened pencils with an eraser (not mechanical). It’s near the end of the year; ask your student if their pencils still have erasers and is the pencil more than an inch long? If not, it is time to invest in a couple of new pencils!  Testing typically starts at 8:30 a.m. sharp, so your students will need to be on time. Classroom doors open at 8:10 a.m. each morning, and school begins/attendance is taken at 8:20 a.m.  Students who arrive tardy will be admitted to their classrooms only after the current test is finished, and that student/parent will need to make up that test at a later point.

There will be more information closer to testing week, but for now, just be aware it is coming and, if possible, re-schedule morning appointments during that week.
