Covid Update - Had a couple of scares at the end of last week but testing came out negative for Covid but positive for strep and sinus infection instead.

We invite you to join us for Easter Sunday as we celebrate our risen Savior, April 4th • 9:00 am, followed by Adult and Children’s Sunday School at 10:15 CHAPEL OFFERINGS FOR THE 4TH QUARTER will be going to assist Camp Lutherhoma in Tahlequah.

SUMMER DAYCARE PACKETS are available in the office and in daycare. IF you want your child to attend summer daycare, you must sign up with Ms. Heidi in daycare. PS3 and under, if you didn’t return the blue / green sheet with your choice, please confirm with Ms. Heidi or Connie in the office to make sure you are on the list.

CHEER TRYOUTS FOR 2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR! FLS Cheer Tryout Parent Meeting will be next Tuesday, April 6th, @ 5:30 in the Youth House. Parents of any current 6th & 7th graders interested in trying out should attend.

ITBS TESTING WEEK is April 19-23; Students will be testing in the mornings during this week. Please make arrangements now so that students do not have morning appointments this week. Students who arrive late will not be admitted into a classroom until the class finishes any testing in progress.

DAYCARE NEEDS: If you have a high chair lying around that you aren’t using, or girls clothes, sizes 2-4T, please consider donating them to daycare. Thank you!

SCHATTE MEMORIAL EXTRAVAGANZA: Will be held May 1st in the FLS parking lot. We will have live music, vendors, and a BBQ cook-off! This event is open to the community. Check out our event on Facebook!

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE… HELP US FIND THE RIGHT PERSON FOR YOUR KIDS: – First Lutheran School is looking for help in daycare, for the summer and for the school year. In addition to being 18 or older, able to be fingerprinted and pass a background test, applicants also need to have a positive attitude, be dependable, and have a personality, language, and behavior (and facebook page) that is appropriate when working with children. They need to be (1)

physically able to pick up small children to change diapers and as needed, and be willing to work with children of all ages. You may direct questions to Ms. Heidi Daley on FastDirect or at 580-762-1124 or by calling the school office at 580762-9950, stop by the school or daycare office to get an application, or print your own at www.fastdir.com/flcspc under the “links” tab on the left. Please pass the word to relatives, neighbors, college students, etc. who you think would work well with children.

5TH – 8TH GRADE TRACK – Coach Amanda: Track practice is 3:30 – 4:30; Boys on Tuesday’s & Thursday’s and girls on Monday’s & Wednesday’s. Meet by the outdoor court by the cafeteria. I encourage athletes to do this in their off season! If you would like your student to participate, please message Coach Amanda on FastDirect.

SCHOOL OFFICE—TAX STATEMENTS: If you would like a printout of your payments to First Lutheran during 2020 for tax purposes, you can print them off by logging into your FastDirect account, click on the “finances” button on the top, click on “tax report” on the left-hand side, then choose the year you want and click on “Tax Year Printout”. It will bring up a page to print with your payments to First Lutheran categorized and totaled, and it will have our Federal Tax I.D. number on the top (it’s 73-6083110).

Alternatively, you can request a tax statement from the office by calling 580-762-9950 or sending a FastDirect email to Connie Erickson. This will include school-related expenses only; summer daycare tax statements must be requested from daycare by sending a FastDirect email to Heidi Daley or calling daycare at 580-762-1124. Not all payments to FLS are tax deductible, and you should contact a tax advisor to find out what can be written off, and what cannot.

A BEST FRIEND HAPPENING is scheduled for Saturday, April 24, 2021, 8am-11:30am for all the mothers, grandmothers, daughters, & friends. This event is sponsored by LWML. Mark your calendars and see details below.

RE-ENROLLMENT REMINDER: Are you coming back in August?! We need to know! Enrollment is now open to the public for next school year! Attached to a prior Chatter were your enrollment papers for the 2021/2022 school year; you can print an additional copy from the “links” tab on FastDirect, or stop by the office to get a new one. To hold your students’ spot for next school year, be sure to return your enrollment forms and 1/3 of the enrollment fee (if applicable). We are still limiting class sizes due to COVID, and some classes were already full this year, so please don’t wait until the last minute to let us know if you plan to return next year.

If you know a family new to First Lutheran School that is interested in enrolling, have them call the school office for enrollment information. If they have a student in 1st – 6th grades, make sure to ask them to list you as a referring family on their enrollment sheet. If they remain enrolled through the first semester, in January of 2022 you will receive a $200 credit towards your tuition account! ELEVEN families earned credit in January just by referring friends!

LOCAL NEWS: Do you take the newspaper? If so, if there are pictures or articles about First Lutheran Students, and you aren’t keeping them for yourself, would you send the articles in to the office? We would love to keep extra copies in our scrapbook. Thanks!

PRINCIPAL – Mr. Birnbaum: This Holy Week we remember the humiliation, pain, suffering, and death that our savior endured for us and we CELEBRATE the resurrection that we receive from the Sonrise on that blessed Easter morn.

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: Happy Easter to everyone! Our field trip was today; it was so much fun! Have a great rest of your week!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: Happy Birthday Logan M. We had a great day today at New Life Trails! Thank you to all that were able to join us and especially to the parents who drove other students! We have one more field trip for the year, and the information is in folders today. We love to move our learning outside! Book orders are in folders today and are due back to me or online by Friday, April 9th. Show and tell will be on Friday April 9th. Tomorrow is a half day of school and no school on Friday and Monday. Our Bible words this week are, We believe that Jesus died and rose again.1 Thessalonians 4:14 Keep practicing the letter names and sounds! Have a Blessed week and a Happy Easter!

KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: If you have not brought back your child's signed report card to school, please do so. I will give you another copy of the card, but if I get the signed copy back I know you saw it. (Thank you!) Also, if anyone wants a conference please contact me. Wow, I can't believe Easter is here, I hope everyone has a great one! We have a half day on Thursday (11:20) and no school on Friday or Monday. Thank you for all the help on our Field Trip!

FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Memory for Thursday is the 5th Commandment: You shall not murder. Thank you to all the parents for driving and being with us on our field trip. March reading logs are due on Thursday. March is the last month for the Pizza Hut Reading Program. I pray that you have a wonderful Easter break as we celebrate our Risen Lord!

SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: Blessings to you on this Holy Week. We are learning about the gift of love Jesus gave us when he suffered and died for our sins. No greater love has anyone shown for us. We have only eight spelling words this week. We will be saying Psalm 23 this Thursday. Enjoy your extra long Easter weekend. Be sure to include worship in your plans. Happy April Birthday to Landon Allen. God’s blessings, dear friend.

THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: Happy April! The countdown to the end of the year is on. Grades are all up to date; some of us are not on the right path for this 4th quarter. If you have any questions or concerns please let me know.

This week: Spelling Test and Reading Test on Thursday. Memory Psalms 23 is due next Friday. Facts: 8s facts quiz will be next Friday. PLEASE practice these at home. They are tough! Testing Week is soon approaching; we have been practicing and talking over testing strategies. If you have any question please let me know. I ask that each of you write a letter of encouragement to your child. I will have these on their desk Monday morning of testing week. Also, I will like some parents to volunteer to bring a snack for each day. Water: We are out of bottles of water; if you are willing to donate we would greatly appreciate it. Please email or text me which day you would like; we will test all 5 days. Remember this is a short week; half day on Thursday (dismiss at 11:20) and no school on Friday or Monday. Hope you all have a wonderful Easter.

FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: Praise God for the beautiful days He has given us! We are in need of water for the classroom; please bring in what you are able to donate. Make sure that we are reading for our longer AR goal. Daily reading makes it easier. As the quarter continues, help the kids to stay on top of academics. Planners & Fast Direct are great tools to help. Our education to be strong fourth graders to prepare to be fifth graders is not over yet. I am here for any questions. See you back to school on Tuesday (we are released at 11:20 tomorrow, and out of school on Friday and Monday). Blessings as we take time this long weekend to focus on Christ and all he has done for us during this Lenten and Easter journey.

FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: Remember...tomorrow school dismisses at 11:20. This is a short week, but we are accomplishing a lot. I hope you have an enjoyable Easter weekend. I also hope everyone gets to attend church on this joyous day to worship and praise God for sending Jesus to suffer and die so that our sins are forgiven and we have a home in heaven. I know that this will be my husband, Paul's, best Easter yet, spending it with Jesus. I surely miss him here, but faith assures me that because of Jesus' death and resurrection I will see him again someday. Easter blessings and love to you all!

MIDDLE SCHOOL F.L.Y. – Mrs. Heitman: We will NOT meet Wednesday (tonight), but we invite all our families to join us during this Holy Week at our Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services, both held at 6:30 pm.

Saturday FLY is hosting a bonfire at Steve Gales’ house. Permission slips are required and can be picked up from Ms. Amber.

After Easter, FLY will resume FLY’s normal time of 5:30-7:00. We will begin meeting in the Youth House for dinner and devotions again, then head to the gym for fellowship & games.

Mrs. Scott: 5th Grade Math took their 13th math test yesterday. We will continue on with Lesson 70 on Thursday.

6R Math is wrapping up Chapter 9. We started our review today. Their Chapter 9 Test will be early next week.

6A/7R Math has their Chapter 10 Test tomorrow!

8R Math is working on linear equations.

8A Math is wrapping up Chapter 8 and will begin their review later this week. Their next test will be early next week.

Personal Finance – Mrs. Scott: Personal Finance: We have several guest speakers coming to talk to the kids from several different career fields. Parents please note, on Tuesday, April 6th, we will have a few police officers at the school right after lunch. They will have their police cars with them but please do not be alarmed. We have firefighters and paramedics coming to speak to the finance classes on Tuesday, April 13th. They will most likely have a fire truck and an ambulance with them. Again, please to do not be alarmed as this is on our schedule. I look forward to the police officers, firefighters, and paramedics who are taking the time out of their work day to come speak to our 7th & 8th graders!

Mrs. Hanson: I am truly proud of all grades approaching and taking on some pretty complex content lately. Even though it's challenging, the students are digging it and understanding it. All students have become so much more responsible for their own education and are growing into independent learners. They have developed some great critical thinking skills and are problem solving so much better. These are the skills they will be able to apply to any situation and use for the rest of their lives.

But we are all still works in progress and should never stop learning so...6th grade is learning how to name chemical compounds. They will also be doing a chemical reaction demonstration for their peers next week. A project description can be found on Google Classroom.

7th grade is had some wonderful BIG IDEA presentations this week and we will be moving on to the atmosphere and weather next week.

8th grade is tackling the complex but interesting world of genetics. Each student made a pretty impressive model of DNA. If your student did not already explain their model to you, ask them to give you a little presentation.

Ms. Kester: We are wrapping up Chapter 7 in History before we break for Good Friday and Resurrection Day. Students were afforded class time to study, as essay tests are today and Thursday. Early in the week, sixth graders used costumes and props to present their How-to research presentations they prepared with a partner, successfully merging history and creativity.

Seventh-graders are busy, too, as they work on their Oklahoma Geography projects. And our eighth graders have not been left out, as they are perfecting outlines for their field trip-related oral reports and looking forward to the upcoming class trip.

In Religion today, seventh and eighth graders presented their mock sermons on our book lessons. As there will be no school on the next two class days I teach G6 Religion, sixth graders will "take us to church" after we return from Resurrection break.

In French, students applied their Numbers lesson by counting tasty galettes, whereas trois-deux-un resulted in yum-yum-yum! They also learned new phrases and words with Miss K then incorporated them into a fun game of French tag. Next class period is sure to pay off, so they won't want to miss it. After that, we'll master some lessons new to the course. In the meantime, I've posted a video on Google Classroom where students can listen to a native French speaker, which is a great listening exercise to train the ear.

Mrs. Harbeson: Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Hallelujah! Jesus defeated death and because of that, you and I live! I hope you all are able to take time this holy weekend to reflect on Jesus' sacrifice and celebrate our risen Savior.

School will let out at 11:20 on Thursday, April 1, and resume on Tuesday, April 6. In literature, all classes have begun their 4th quarter novels and have taken their first quizzes. 6th is reading Freak the Mighty; 7th is reading Gentle Annie, and 8th is reading Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl. In language, 6th and 7th have begun their new grammar units, and 8th grade has begun research for their college reports. I will hopefully be scheduling our OSU trip in the next week or so.
