Nothing to report concerning Covid, but we want you to know that our school secretary Connie Erickson's cancer has returned. She had been in remission for four years. More tests are being run this Friday and then a course of action will be determined. Please pray.

The SCHATTE MEMORIAL COOKOFF: May 7th we’ll be hosting our 3rd annual Schatte Memorial Cookoff! If you’re interested in signing up as a vendor or Cookoff team, contact Jennifer Heitman at flcsnextgen@gmail.com .

APRIL 4-8 ITBS TESTING: 2nd – 8th Grade! Please be sure your student is on time, doesn’t have any morning doctor appointments, and eats a healthy breakfast to start their day right! (See attached flyer for more information.)

LOCAL WELLNESS POLICY REVIEW: DHS and the NSLP require us to have a Local Wellness Policy and to evaluate it periodically. Anyone is welcome to participate, and if you would like to participate in this process, please contact the office with your name and phone number and we will contact you when it is time. Interested parties may review our Wellness Policy at any time by going to www.fastdir.com/flcspc and clicking on “links” on the left, or you may view it in person, hanging on the bulletin board in the lunchroom. Thank you for your interest in this process.

Mr. Birnbaum: I just want to expand on the Covid / Cancer Update article above. We pray that Connie will continue to be able to work for us during treatment and we will put extra precautions in place again to try to keep her healthy. She is a WEALTH of knowledge and skills that keeps our school running.

CARDINAL CARE – Ms. Vap: Summer Daycare Sign-ups are now available. Information packets can be found in the Daycare Lobby. If you need summer care for your child, please sign up before April 14th, as we will open up enrollment to the public if there are any spots still available.

Cardinal Care - Please be sure to let the office know if your child will be arriving after 9:30am so that we may order them a lunch.

All Ages - Parents, please be sure to check your child in and out on the Brightwheel app every day. There is a kiosk provided at the desk and/or a sign-in/out sheet for backup purposes. If you need any assistance, please let us know. MUSIC  – Mrs. Brey: ECE students are exploring how high and low their voices can go, learning the musical terms for loud and quiet, and moving around to different styles of music. Elementary students have been working with hand drums, tennis balls, and basketballs and working on steady beat. Middle school students will be starting to –1–

compose their own songs with boomwhackers, drums, rhythm sticks, and egg shakers. 7th/8th grade will be singing in church on Sunday, April 10th at 9am for Palm Sunday. With the church choir, these students will be singing "Hosanna" by Dr. Jeffery Blersch, and it's going to be awesome! Thank you for all your support!

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Daine: We will continue learning about Spring and growing things. This week we are watching grass seed to see them grow, we will plant flowers, and we are learning that God helps us grow! Have a blessed rest of the week.

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: This week we will be reviewing the letters A through E. Information and sign up sheet about the egg hunt went out in backpacks today. Please return signed, with admission fee and eggs. Have a great week!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: March is the last month for Book It. March reading calendars are due to me

by Friday April 8th. I still have some report cards out. Please sign and return yours if you haven't already. Book orders are due to me or online by Friday April 1st. Show and Tell is also on Friday. Look for the note and permission slip for our field trip to New Life Trails and egg hunt. Those are due to me with payment for your child by Wednesday April 6th. They are only charging for children, but do accept donations. The cost of this trip and any donations made will go to help feed the animals at the trails. Our Bible word this week are Hosanna in the highest. Matthew 21:9. We are on our last letter cluster VV,Jj,Qq and the number 19. Look for the ABC Countdown calendar in folders today. We will start that on Monday. Have a Blessed Week!

KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: Parents, please sign and return your child's report card, so I know you saw it. I will send another copy of the card back to you. If you have done this already thank you very much. This Friday will be show and tell, please bring something that will fit in the backpack. We are very low on snacks and need more. Please bring snacks--anything your child wants to bring. If you don't bring snacks, we will not have snacks. (I am not going to send notes home this time.) Please look for our Easter Egg Hunt field trip paper that came home today. Have a wonderful week!

FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Memory work for Friday is the 5th Commandment - You shall not murder.

Information and permission forms came home today for our next field trip. We will be going to New Life Trails on Wednesday, April 13. Please bring 12 plastic eggs stuffed with candy or a toy by April 12 and return the permission form with money by April 6. The cost is $4 per child, adults do not need to pay. Scholastic book orders also came home today.

If you would like to order books, please return order and payment to me or online order by next Friday, April 8. Blessings on your week!

SECOND GRADE – Ms. Felton: Hello all! Standardized testing is next week. For this, please make sure that your child eats breakfast each day, gets enough sleep, and is on time at the beginning of the day. We will begin our testing in the mornings as soon as we finish devotions. There is a sign-up on the Facebook group for snacks - it would be great to have a snack brought in each day next week for the students! Also, please write a note of encouragement for your child to keep on their desk next week. These tests take a lot of time, energy, and focus, so a reminder of their loving parents can really help! Because of testing, we are going to SKIP to WEEK 12 of spelling words, which are abbreviations! These are simpler words and I have some fun activities to do with them, so better for a week of testing. Joshua 1:9 will be memory, due on Thursday. We will not have any big tests next week, but please be reading and practicing subtraction facts! The week after testing will be our subtraction within 20 test. Thank you for all you do to help your child learn and grow!

THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: One week before testing week! The kids are ready, now to make them know they are. We will continue test prep worksheets this week. Friday, we will work on filling out our names on the testing booklet. Please let me know if you have any questions pertaining to the test. We will test EVERY morning, please schedule any appoints for the afternoon. I would LOVE for you all to write your child a letter of encouragement for the week. I need them by Friday, I will set them on their desk Monday. Please also, check on the Facebook page to sign up for snacks for next week. This week: Spelling, Reading, and Science Test on Friday. We will not have Spelling or Reading next week. We will resume after testing week. Memory: Corinthians 10:31 due next Wednesday. Math: 6xs facts today, we will move on to 7Xs. Quiz will be after testing week. Science: Test over Force and Motion on Friday. A test review was sent home today. Book Orders: Book orders were sent home yesterday, please return them by Tuesday, April 15th. Have a great week!

FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: Hello; it’s the week before ITBS testing week. Please send me a special note of encouragement for the kids to support them as they give their best next week. You may email me or send it to the –2–

office, and I will give it to them next week. Continue to have the kids get plenty of sleep and eat a good breakfast before coming to school. Make sure you are on time, testing starts right away! Please bring in a healthy snack for your student to help them focus during testing. If you wish to provide a snack for the class, please let me know what day, so that we have all days covered. There will be no spelling or reading test next week. The West State & Cap is tomorrow. Make sure to look at grades to NOT have any unwanted grades this early in the last quarter of school year. Effort is the best tool to use every day of the week! Blessings as we rest and prepare for the week ahead – When we are weak the Lord is our STRENGTH! 5th GRADE RELIGION – Mrs. Brey: We are discussing the story of Good Friday and the different Gospel accounts of the crucifixion. In this, we are also talking about the sacrifices in the Old Testament compared to the death (and resurrection!) of our Savior, Jesus. Students will be introduced to their devotion project at the end of this week.

5th Grade & Middle School 6th – 8th MATH – Mr. McKinley: 6th and 7th we will finish chapter 8 and test this week.

7th and 8th we will try and finish chapter 8 as we work on writing and graphing linear equations.

SCIENCE – Mrs. Porter-Cain: The weather is getting nicer which means the quarter is going to fly by before we know it!

5th- still working our way through physical science basics! We will be planting things soon! A vegetable plant and a "pretty" plant!

6th Grade- Photosynthesis!! We will also be planting! Friday we will do our first Friday Experiment! We will be combing things to inflate balloons!

7th Grade- We are covering Natural Hazards!!

8th Grade- Animal adaptation is what we are covering this week! They have a project due Friday!

PE- all classes are doing running, jumping, and throwing in preparation for our upcoming track meet!

Athletics- BASKETBALL BANQUET DATE CHANGE MAY 12!!!

TRACK- FIRST MEET IS THE 7TH! Testing for middle school is Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of this upcoming week- please make sure your child is well rested and has breakfast for these days!

LANGUAGE – Ms. Kester: It's more of the same for us this week - literature quizzes, reading day, daily checkup assignments, and memory work. What's old? We just finished presenting 1 Samuel 17-18 skits in Religion. FuN!! What's new? We're preparing ourselves for next week's ITBS testing. Already?! Also, rehearsals are in full swing for High School Musical, Jr. Please be sure your child attends every practice to ensure their production is all it can be.

SOCIAL STUDIES – Mr. Brey: 5th grade: We have just finished the War of 1812. We will be looking at the Gold Rush next.

6th grade: Students are continuing to review state standards we went over at the beginning of the year.

7th grade: Students are also continuing to review state standards that we have already learned.

8th grade: We are wrapping up the causes of WWI. We will shortly dive into the war itself and see if the students would have handled anything differently.

April 4-8, is ITBS Testing Week for Grades 2-8 in the mornings!

What can you do to help your student be ready for testing week? Plenty!  Testing starts at 8:30 a.m. sharp, so please be sure your student is on time.

As a reminder, classroom doors open at 8:10 a.m. each morning, and school begins/attendance is taken at 8:20 a.m. A tardy student is a distraction to a whole class of testing students, so students who arrive tardy will be admitted to their classrooms AFTER the current round of testing is finished. Any missed tests will need to be made up at a later time.  Please avoid any doctor/dentist/etc. appointments during the morning hours. It is a tremendous distraction to your student, as well as the others in the class, to have students pulled out during the middle of a test.  Make sure your student has a healthy breakfast! It’s hard to do your best thinking when your tummy is growling! Remember, we offer nutritious breakfasts in the cafeteria each morning between 7:45 – 8:05 a.m. FOR FREE THIS YEAR!

 They should have 5 sharpened pencils with an eraser (not mechanical).

Long story short: eat a healthy breakfast, be on time, and don’t check out until afternoon! Thanks for your cooperation!
