We are so proud of you all! *Thank you to our 6th graders who came on Sunday to sing to the congregation; you did a great job and it was so nice to see (hear) you all!

Weather Concerns: Winter weather may affect our area again this Thursday. Teachers are sending assignments home on Wednesday (just in case) for ALL grade levels to keep educating your child over the long weekend break. (NO SCHOOL FRIDAY & MONDAY.) ENROLLMENT FORMS…LAST WEEK: Enrollment forms for 2022-2023 went home with last weeks’ Chatter. If you didn’t get one, you can print another one at www.fastdir.com/flcspc under “links”, or stop by the office. 2022-2023 Enrollment is currently limited to current families, but opens to the public on March 1.

If you know someone interested in FLC&S, have them stop by our Open House on Monday, March 7 from 3:30 – 5:15 p.m.. If they have a student in 1st – 6th grades and they list you on the enrollment sheet as referring them, you will receive a $200 tuition credit next January, if they remain enrolled the whole first semester!

Mr. Birnbaum: Congratulations to all those already registered for the new school year. We are excited by all of the phone calls looking to enroll new students. We are again giving a $200 tuition credit to you for new families that are referred by you! (See the bottom of the FLS Fees page for more information.)

CARDINAL CARE – Ms. Vap: We hope the Wednesday evenings weather forecast is wrong, but to be safe, please check your Brightwheel app for Daycare updates. If the decision to close due to weather is made, we will send an alert thru Brightwheel to everyone who is signed up under our program. Be safe and keep your fingers crossed!

CAFETERIA – Mrs. Lyons: I would like to remind everyone that the menu may change, based on what food is available at what times. We are having problems getting food in.

Also, I would like to remind everyone about bringing soft drinks & fast food into breakfast or lunch. This a BIG NO! COMPUTER/LIBRARY – Mrs. Manning: Please remember that each student needs to have a set of cheap, corded earbuds with them when they come to computer lab! Please check with your student and see if theirs are still working. MUSIC  – Mrs. Brey: A HUGE thank you to all sixth grade families for getting your kiddos to church on Sunday and for supporting them! I loved seeing you all there. The sixth graders did a wonderful job singing and we celebrated with a good old fashioned roast session and doughnuts in class yesterday. Middle schoolers are starting to get ready for auditions for our Spring musical! Ms Tane Kester has audition materials and a sign-up sheet. Go talk to her for more information!

Middle school students are performing in church at 9:00 a.m. on the following dates:  7th Grade: April 10  8th Grade: May 8 PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Daine: Parents, thank you so much for helping to make our Valentine’s Day party so awesome! We are focusing on social skills so that we are ready to move up to the next class in the fall. We are continuing to work on scissors skills, letter recognition, number skills, and manners. I love being your child’s teacher! Have a blessed rest of the week!

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: I hope everyone had a nice Valentine's Day! Thank you to all the parents that sent goodies! This week we are learning all about the letters Q, V, and X. There is no school Friday & Monday. Have a great week!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: Happy Valentines week! Thank you for all of the wonderful valentines and sending goodies for our party; we had a great time making ice cream sundaes! We had some uppercase letter masters, and some others are close to making it! Keep up the practice! Our Bible words this week are, Forgive as the Lord forgave you. Colossians 3:13 We are learning the letters Gg,Ww,Xx, and the number 15 this week. We are out of school this Friday and next Monday. Tuesday is "Twosday" so remember to dress for the fun! Have a Blessed Week!

KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: Thank you parents for helping with our field trip last week! Also, thank you for our Valentine's Day party on Monday and getting us Valentine's! We do not have school this Friday the 18th and Monday the 21st. I hope all of you have a wonderful long weekend. The days seem to be going by so fast and soon it will be March and Spring! Our class will have a special "Two's Day" on 2-22-22 and the kids can dress up if they would like to – please look for our special note. Have an awesome week!

FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Thank you to the drivers for taking us to Cowley College to see the play of Junie B. Jones. We really enjoyed it! Memory verses for Thursday is Galatians 5:22-23: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Thursday is also Picture Day. Be ready for individual and class pictures. Next week Tuesday we will celebrate 2's Day (222-22). Please see the note about fun ways to dress for the day! Enjoy your 4-day weekend!

SECOND GRADE – Ms. Felton: Happy Valentine’s Day! Thank you to all the parents who donated snacks and items, making 2nd grade feel very loved. Thank you also to the Engle’s and Chapman’s for the water and whiteboard markers!

Since it is winter, there’s potential for God to bless us with one of my favorite things - snow!! If school gets canceled again this year, I will have assignments posted on Google Classroom for students to complete. Next Thursday’s memory will be the 7th Commandment with Meaning. With reading and writing being focused on nonfiction/expository texts, try reading a nonfiction book at home with your child and notice how it’s similar to and different than a fiction book. Math is a continuous focus on subtraction, with shapes, time, and measurement sprinkled in. Science this week is still our Olympics STEM that we are doing with 3rd grade, but next week will resume our “normal” schedule of historical figures in social studies and habitats in science. And remember TWO’S DAY on Tuesday, 2/22/22!!

THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: Happy Valentine's Day! I love each and every one of my students and I thank you for sharing them with me this year. We all definitely felt loved on Monday. Thank you parents for the gifts! Also, a huge –2–

thank you to Jamai for all you did for the party, it would not have been a success without you! This week: Remember it is a short week, no school Friday or Monday. Spelling Test on Thursday this week. Reading: Half way done with Ivan, be on the lookout for homework reading pages next week. Memory: 3rd Article due next Wednesday. Facts 3 quiz is also next Wednesday. These are new and different and the kids are struggling. Please help them at home. Science and Social Studies: We are finishing up our Olympics Unit. We awarded medals today, please ask your child how they did. Book Reports: THANK YOU for all your efforts on these. They turned out amazing. Stop by and look at all of them in the hallway. 2/22: Dress up day: dynamic duo or tutu, tiara, tube socks, and ties. Please also bring 2 canned goods to donate to our food pantry at the church. I cannot wait to see everyone on TWOsday. Have a great week!!

FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: Congratulations to Harper, Savannah, and Madeline for winning our Valentines’ Day Box Competition. Wow, there were SO MANY amazing and wonderful creations! The year is winding down very quickly with a few school days left. Keep reading to make current AR goals. Please log in to check grades and AR. Make sure all sick and late work is being completed. We are 5th graders in training. This is a challenge that some are really stepping up to the plate for, and others need more guidance from their support system. Keep up the great work to get the word out!

MW region test was today. Blessings as we focus on Christ’s love.

5th GRADE RELIGION – Mrs. Brey: Students took a test on Tuesday over prayer and geography. It's awesome how we can look at Israel in Jesus' time and compare it to today's geography. We will have memory work due next week Tuesday, February 22. It will be over the books of the Old Testament. Students will come home tonight with a worksheet that will help them prepare for it. Most of them also know the song, so ask them to sing it for you!

5th Grade & Middle School 6th – 8th MATH – Mr. McKinley: 6th and 7th - Short week this week and next. We will work on finishing up chapter and prepare for chapter 7 test over equations, inequalities and functions.

7th and 8th – Yes, we made it through percents. We will review and prepare for the chapter test this week. So, the end of the chapter reviews and tests will be very helpful in doing well on the test.

SCIENCE – Mrs. Porter-Cain: Is that more snow I see in the forecast!?

5th Grade Science-They have been learning about formulas to ball and stick models and how to calculate the atomic number of substances! We will be moving into classifying substances later this week and early next week!

6th Grade Science- They have been moving right through the periodic table! We are up to the 80th Substance! We are looking forward to learning about reactants and getting into experiments!

7th Grade Science- Class is erupting with information about volcanoes! This week they are learning how they’re made, what they do, and why!

8th Grade Science- We have dove into Genetic Mutations and Biochemistry! This week they have learned about somatic and germline mutations!

2nd-4th PE- we are playing soccer and learning the rules and fundamentals of the game!

6th-8th PE- some will be practicing basketball still and some will be playing indoor tag games.

Basketball- Varsity Girls won the HCAA tournament this past Saturday and became the 3A State Champions!!!

JV boys and girls competed in our home tournament this past weekend, finishing up their competitive season!

Varsity Girls and Boys will both head to Texas this week for the Texas State Lutheran Tournament! Good luck Cardinals!

Track- ready or not, here it comes!! Coaching this year will be Bethany Avila, Charity Felton, and Sarah Brey! Track is for students in 5th - 8th Grades. Please Contact Ms Amanda if you’d like your child to participate!

Everyone have a great week and GO CARDS! LANGUAGE – Ms. Kester: This short week finds seventh- and eighth-grade students preparing for literature quizzes set for tomorrow, fifth graders studying for a grammar test scheduled for tomorrow, and sixth graders digging into their new AR books. Please have your children take their study notes and books home today in case tomorrow proves to be a distance-learning setup, as snow is in the forecast. If that happens, then seventh- and eighth-grade students will test online that day (exams will be posted on Google Classroom) while fifth graders will find their test rescheduled for Tuesday.

Additionally, due to this and next week being short ones, new IXL assignments will resume February 24, and reading logs will not be due until February 25.

In Religion, the book of Jonah is entertaining us while teaching students the beauty of God's mercy. Their memory work, Micah 7:18-19, hits on mercy and is due February 25. In the meantime, they are learning typology and Biblical truths embedded in the book of Jonah, engaging student-led roundtable discussions about it, and gearing up to create a poetic piece inspired by their reading of this interesting prophet.

Annnnd...'tis the season for musicals, High School Musical, Jr., in fact! Auditions begin next week, and Mrs. Brey and I are excited to "bop to the top" of spring with this energetic play that is sure to delight all who attend. More information is upcoming. For now, if your middle-school children signed up for a role, then make sure they are memorizing their sides and any required songs for their audition times. And, may the rest of your week put a song in your head and a pep in your step!

SOCIAL STUDIES – Mr. Brey: 5th: we are working on colonization. Students are learning about Spanish and Portuguese settlements and soon will move on to British ones.

6th: Students are learning about South America. We will be spending another week on this region.

7th: Students are progressing through WWII and atrocities such as the holocaust and the holodomor.

8th: We are wrapping up our state standards! We are currently starting our last unit, which is reconstruction.

STUDENT COUNCIL – Mrs. Harbeson: We would like to thank all of those who showed interest in joining student council. Our newest members (6th grade representatives) Claire Davis, Anniston Troutman, and Kinley Brown and (7th grade representative) Izzy Strassle are joining our current members London Pettigrew, Lauren King, Jaclyn Heitman, Khloe Andrews, Jagger Laughlin, and Charly Boyd. The StuCo's next big event is hosting the annual middle school winter dance on Friday, February 25. The details are on the next page.

Dance Theme: Through the Wardrobe When: Friday, February 25, 2022 Time: 7-9 p.m.

Where: FLS gym Cost: $5 per person ($2.50 will be given to the Lutheran church pantry fund and $2.50 will go towards the cost of the dance.

Who is invited: All current 6th, 7th, and 8th FLS students.

This is not a "date dance." The winter dance is a time for all of the students to dress up, have fun with their friends, and listen to good music. Also, please remember that this is a middle school dance. Fancy cars, suits, and dresses are not appropriate. Let's save that experience for our students when they go to their high school prom.

Chaperones: Mrs. Harbo and the middle school teachers.

Parents are welcome to stay and take pictures when you drop your student off but should plan on leaving by 7:30.

We'll take a group picture at 9, so if you want to, come a few minutes early.

Dress: This is a semi-dressy dance. No sweats, shorts, or t-shirts.

Ladies - dresses or pants. Dresses may not be strapless. (Spaghetti straps are ok for the dance only.) No pointy heeled shoes. Please follow the school dress code for appropriate length and fit of your dress.

Gentlemen - Button-down shirts or polos. Slacks or nice jeans. (No very distressed jeans or jeans with holes.)

Food: The student council will be providing snacks and drinks. However, it is strongly encouraged that you eat dinner before coming to the dance. In past years, a parent or two from the class will organize a dinner for the students. If your class chooses to do this, please take into consideration the cost of the meal so that every student can afford to go.
