Canned Food Drive - For November, we will be collecting canned and box foods for our neighborhood food bank.

We will start with the middle school students and grandparents going to their classrooms and then lunch, while the kindergarten through 5th grade going to their classrooms. Then they will rotate to book fair, lunch, and recess. Students may leave early with their grandparents, but please come sign out in the Administration building.

FLS Student Council Warmth for Winter-KFOR Ch. 4 Coat Drive, December 4-8: Brrr...it's chilly out there!

The FLS student council is holding a coat drive and we need you! Help families stay warm this winter by donating your clean, gently-used coats to those in need. All sizes are needed. All coats collected will be delivered to the KFOR Warmth –1–

for Winter program in OKC. To make your donation a little easier, you may drop off your coats between 7:50 - 8:20 the week of December 4-8 by pulling into the drop-off line next to the middle school on 4th Street. A student council member will collect your coats right from your car! We have a box in the Admin office as well set up and you can drop off coats anytime! Help us make a difference for those who are in need!

FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH AND SCHOOL 12TH ANNUAL CHRISTMAS MARKET OKLAHOMA FESTIVAL, scheduled for Saturday, December 3th, 2022, is rapidly approaching. If you would like to be a vendor or know someone who would like to participate, please call the church, or school office or Shirley Zimmerman (580) 761-4657, thank you!

COLLECTING PONCA CITY SANTA BUCKS: First Lutheran will be collecting the Santa Shops Ponca 1st tickets that are given out at participating local businesses each time you make a purchase during the Christmas season. If you are willing to donate yours to the school, please drop them by the school on or before December 19th. You can also place them in the black mailbox in front of the Administration Building. In the event that we win something, if you want to know if it was from your ticket, please write your name on the back of the strip of tickets & we’ll let you know!

INK & TONER RECYCLING: Help us keep your costs down! If you have a new or used ink or toner cartridge that you are done with, please send them with your student and the teachers will get them to the office. We recycle these and earn credit on the supplies that the school purchases each month. THANK YOU for your help with this!

Yearbook: Please send in photos of sporting events, class parties, and field trips!!

CARDINAL CARE – Heidi Daley: The sign-ups for Thanksgiving break are posted in the entryway of Daycare. Please pay attention as there is two sheets and what classes and dates. Please make sure your child brings a jacket as they still go outside to play on cooler days. Make sure child's name is in their jacket. Make sure your child has a change of clothes in backpacks or left with their teacher (Infants-twos).

LIBRARY/Stem – Mrs. Manning: The fair arrives THIS WEEK for set up! I am so looking forward to seeing everyone at the fair. It's not too late to volunteer! I will absolutely need someone who can direct patrons to the correct book cases or help them find a classroom book. The fair will be open next week (11/13) every day after school, as well as 11/14 at 7:30 a.m. for Donuts with Dads, 11/16 at 7:30 a.m. for Muffins with Moms, and 11/20 & 11/21 after Grandparents Day activities. Your patronage helps support classroom libraries and both of our FLS libraries. If you would like to visit the fair at a different time, please contact me and I will open it up for you!

While doing this, we are also looking at the music of China. Elementary students are working on their Christmas program which will be on December 7th at 7pm.

Religion—Mrs. Brey- Students have a test on Thursday, November 9th. Study guides have been handed out - if your student somehow lost it :) there is a copy of it on their Google Classroom.

Memory work is on Friday, November 10th over the fruits of the spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Daine: Hello families! We are in full swing of Autumn! We are learning about Fall harvest crops, scarecrows, being thankful, and turkeys! Have blessed rest of the week!

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: Thank you to all the parents that sent goodies for our costume party, and the ones that were able to attend! This week we are continuing our cluster of N, C, and O. If you have not already, please fill out the Grandparent’s Day form and send it back as soon as possible so that we will be able to start planning. The Bible words this week are: Give us this day our daily bread. Matthew 6:11. Blessings!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN—Mrs. Kelly I am thankful for the sunshine and warmer weather this week!

Hopefully it will stay around a bit. But please remember that this is the time of the year that the weather can change drastically and quickly. Please send a jacket or hoody every day. Grand –2–

Parents’ Day is on the 20th. The sign up for your child's grandparents was due today. If you did not send it back, please do tomorrow. We need to get a count for chairs and food. Remember we dismiss at 11:00 on the 20th and don't have school the rest of the week. If you will need childcare, you need to sign up as soon as possible on the sheets provided by childcare. I have put a sign up for food for Grandparents' Day on class Tag. Please sign up to make this a special day for your kids and their grandparents. Book orders are due to me or online by the 15th, but you can submit an order any time before then. Our Bible words this week are, Let us go to the house of the Lord!

KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: -- Please mark your calendar for Tuesday November 21st, which is Grandparents' Day. Also, please invite your child's grandparents to school that day. Kindergarten will celebrate this day with the rest of the school and your child can eat with their grandparent but you must buy a lunch ticket for your child's grandparent and you do this in the office. We will have an assembly in the gym, Chapel in the church, visit the classrooms and the book fair not to mention our lunch with grandparents. I think everything starts at 9:00 in the gym. Students may leave early with their grandparents, but please sign out in the Administration Building. Also, if your grandparents can't come then adopt an older person to be your child's grandparent for the day! This day is a big deal, but sorry no parents only grandparents! Have a winner of a week!

FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum-- Memory verse for Friday is Psalm 23:2 - He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside still waters. We will be going to Cowley College on Dec. 6 to watch the play of The Gingerbread Pirates. The field trip permission form came home today. Please return the form and the money by next Wednesday, Nov. 15. The book fair will be here next week. Check the chatter for important dates and times! Make sure to invite Grandparents for Tuesday, Nov. 21. Spelling this week are L blend words. In Social Studies we will learn more about the Pilgrims and the Native Americans and how they were a part of the first Thanksgiving. Have a wonderful week!

SECOND GRADE – Ms. Felton: We are looking forward to Grandparent’s Day on Tuesday, November 21!

November 21 is a half day, so dismissal is at 11:20! Memory this week is all of Psalm 23, recorded and sent to me by Friday, and next week will be verse 1 of Away in a Manger. We’re starting some Christmas carols, even though it's before Thanksgiving still. We’re approaching the middle of this quarter, so students should be close to the halfway point of their AR goals. We’ll conclude our science unit on habitats by next Tuesday. Students are designing balloons for a 2nd grade Thanksgiving Day Macy’s Parade, so ask your child how those are going this week! Your child will also be researching and writing about the character they choose. Throughout November we are gathering nonperishable items for the food pantry - canned meats and can openers are always needed, along with other nonperishable food items.

THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: What a busy week! We will all get through it together. I know basketball has started up, remember that student comes first in student athlete. A basketball game is not an excuse to not get their homework done. If an issue arises, please let me know. This week: Spelling, Memory, and Reading test this Friday. Most kids have said their memory to me already. Please check with your child to see if they have said it or not. Projects: Remember the turkey is due TOMORROW! Book Reports are due next Friday. Most kids have their books read, now just the project. If you need inspiration please google, there are so many ideas. Grandparents Day: we are 2 weeks away, kids are doing great learning their lines for the play. PLEASE let me know if your child will not be attending. Mid- Quarters: Grades come home next week. FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: It is really good seeing God working in our families, lives, and our classrooms. Midterms come out next Wednesday. This means we are half way into a short quarter for grades and AR goals. Are you content with how your student is performing? Make sure late work is being taken seriously. Late work is a very unhealthy habit to be in and even harder to stop. Will a detention be earned? Is work coming home to be finished? Mid-terms help to decide –3–

sports eligibility at FLCS. I can’t wait for the books fair next week. There will be a lot of great book selections. Please let me know if your child will not be here for Grandparent’s Day ASAP. Don’t forget to dress appropriately for the changing weather. Blessings as we stay with the Lord!

FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Harbeson:- Happy Wednesday, Everyone! I hope you've had a great week so far!

It's hard to believe, but we are almost halfway through our second quarter. With basketball starting up and the holidays getting close, things in 5th grade are getting busy. All students will have time during the day to complete most if not all their assignments if they are using their time wisely. It is imperative to work hard while we are at school so everyone can do all the things that keep them busy after school!

Leaf projects have been handed in, will be graded this week, and put on display outside our door for others to view. We have started a new class book this week that everyone will take an AR test on. Be sure you are reading to make your AR goal by Friday, December 15.

Remember...your AR goal as of December 15 will be recorded as a reading test grade.

Grandparents' Day is Tuesday, November 21, and the Christmas Program is Thursday, December 7. That's all for now... Blessings to you all!

8th Grade (Reg Math): We completed Chapter 4 on Tuesday and had a quiz over Lessons 4.44.7 in class on Wednesday. We will review on Thursday and take the Chapter 4 test on Friday.

7th Grade (Adv Math): We took the Chapter 4 test on Tuesday. A few students are finishing up corrections during study hall on Wednesday. We started Chapter 5 on Wednesday. Chapter 5 covers rational numbers and equations.

7th Grade (Reg Math): We completed Chapter 4 on Tuesday and had a quiz over Lessons 4.44.7 in class on Wednesday. We will review on Thursday and take the Chapter 4 test on Friday.

LANGUAGE – Ms. Kester: Testing, testing, testing. Students took a spelling test yesterday and will take a vocabulary exam tomorrow. As usual, Friday will be a reading day for the class book that is due November 27. Next week, a new WOW will be unveiled for students to use in their composition assignments.

Grandparents, grandparents, grandparents. Grandparents Day creativity is on the docket as homeroom brainstorms ways to honor grandmas and grandpas.

Book fair, book fair, book fair. Be sure to check out our homeroom's wish list for novels while you are chomping on muffins or donuts at our book fair events.

Turkey, turkey, turkey. Enough said.

SCIENCE – Mrs. Porter-Cain: We had great fun competing in the Red Ribbon week activities! Our class won the penny war! Sweet victory!

Our chapel offerings for November are canned/ nonperishable food items! These items will go into our church food pantry which will then feed a lot of people! Blessed to be a blessing!

6th Grade- we have started a new chapter- Earthquakes and Volcanoes!!

7th Grade- We are talking about Matter, Forces,and energy!

8th Grade- we are going to be diving deeper into cell cycles and their functions!

BASKETBALL - Hey all you Cardinal fans, its officially time to start cheering on our Cardinal basketball teams! All teams are in season now! JV girls and Boys and V girls and boys are both playing in the Shidler tournament this week and are looking to bring home hardware! Keep a close eye on your player's grades! They cannot let grades slip or they will get benched!

SOCIAL STUDIES – Mr. Brey-- 6th/7th are learning about different types of governments on Tuesdays and Thursdays. 6th is learning about Greek culture outside of that and 7th is learning about North African culture, geography, and history.

8th: Students are currently in the 1820s and 1830s in American history. We will soon be entering our inventions unit.

Chess Club: Due to the dramatic drop in interest and attendance for Chess Club, we will be ending chess club 10/26
