CANNED FOOD DRIVE

NOVEMBER’S CHAPEL OFFERING will be a canned food drive. Please send canned/CONTEST BETWEEN boxed foods to school with your children to stock up the church pantry before the holidays. Each week we will have a different competition; today was between boys ECE, Elementary, and girls. Next Wednesday (November 13) will be a competition to see which building and Middle School will bring the most food, and November 20 will be to see whether OU, OSU, or “other” fans are the most generous! Please remember to bring foods that do not need to be Next Wednesday! refrigerated/need other ingredients like meat, eggs, milk, etc.

PRE-SCHOOL, PRE-KINDERGARTEN CLOSED TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 26: If your students’ teacher is Ms. Colvin, Ms. Gillespie, or Ms. Kelly, there will not be class on Tuesday, November 26 as that is grandparents’ day for classes Kindergarten-8th Grade. However, daycare will be open for those pre-school/pre-kindergarten students who are signed up. If your student is going to be here on Tuesday, November 26, please indicate so on the sign up sheet in daycare. We will have lots of guests that day, and we need daycare attendee’s to sign up to make sure we have enough food for everyone.

NO SCHOOL ON WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 27TH: If you need daycare this day, please make sure you sign up on the sheet in the entry way in the childcare building.

TARDIES EQUAL ABSENCES: If you drop off your student (2nd grade and up) tardy, even just one minute, please make sure they check in, in the office, before going to class. Once they are marked absent by a teacher, they’ll remain that way until they stop by the office to check in, resulting in an unexcused absence if they don’t ever check in.

Additionally, this will keep them from earning the perfect attendance award. Furthermore, every 6 tardies adds up to one absence, which will also keep a student from earning the perfect attendance award.

TAILGATE PARTY!! Our final tailgate party of the season will be Friday, Nov 8th. Join us for food, fun, and fellowship as we welcome members of the community out to join us! This is senior night at the game, so come out and support our Wildcats!

VISION SCREENING—NOVEMBER 14: Good vision is essential to your child’s learning. Beginning in the 2007-2008 school year, it is required that the parent or guardian of each student enrolled in kindergarten, at a public school in this state, shall provide certification to school personnel that the student passed a vision screening within the previous twelve (12) months (PK) or during the kindergarten school year. Students enrolled in first or third grade at a public school, in this state, shall provide, within thirty (30) days of the beginning of the school year, certification to school personnel that the student passed a vision screening within the previous twelve (12) months.

First Lutheran School has joined with Vizavance to have your child’s vision screened at no cost to you, for all students in the PS3 classes through 8th grade on November 14 here at school. If you wish to have your child’s vision screened elsewhere, and opt out of our vision screening, please completed the attached form and return it to the office

by November 11, 2019. Additionally, please bring a copy of your child’s screening results to the school office.

GRANDPARENTS DAY is for grandparents of students in the PS-3-year old through 8th Grade classes. It is a day set aside each year to honor and celebrate our grandparents! The Grandparents are invited to come watch performances that the students have prepared for them, to visit their classrooms, visit the book fair together, and join their grandkids for lunch (K-8th). If your students are in the 3- or 4-year old classes, Grandparents Day is Monday, November 25, and you will get information on Grandparents' Day festivities from your teachers.

If your students are in Kindergarten – 8th Grade, Grandparents Day is Tuesday, November 26 (keep reading!).

Please RSVP to the office by phone (580-762-9950), email (lutheransecretary@yahoo.com), FastDirect, or in person how many grandparents will be joining your K-8th grade student for lunch, so that we will have enough food. You may prepay for their lunch, or they may pay at the door. Grandparents lunches will be $5 per meal. Grandparents will not be given a lunch ticket, but we will have their name on a list in the cafeteria. The schedule for Grandparents Day for K-8 follows. (3- & 4-year old’s will receive their schedules from their teachers.)

ADVENT SUPPERS: This year FLCS will host our first intergenerational Advent Suppers on 12/4 and 12/11 from 5-6.

What is an intergenerational supper? Intergenerational suppers provide the opportunity to fellowship with congregants of different generations, seating you and your family at a table with those whom you may not have had the opportunity to get to know otherwise! There will be Bible verses/devotion topics placed at each table to encourage conversation and sharing of traditions. This is a great chance for our youth to meet our elders, and our School families and young families to mingle with our experienced families. Then, join us for advent service in the Sanctuary at 6:30.

CARDINALS GIVE BACK: Jiffy Trip is happy to announce that you all did a great job with your contributions to Children’s Hospital. The Lutheran students donated a total of $404.05 in JUST ONE WEEK! The Elementary School wins a pizza party for donating the most on average ($2.61 per child!). Their pizza party will take place on November 15 at 2:30.

KINDLES FOR SALE: The middle school has upgraded to ChromeBooks, so the Kindle Fire 7’s that were formerly used in the middle school are now for sale. They have 5 GB, come with cases, but no charging cords. 1 for $30, 2 for $50, 3 for $60. Stop by the office to take a look and/or purchase them. We currently have 6 left, so don’t wait if you are interested.

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: Thank you to all the parents that helped with the party on Thursday, by either sending stuff or coming to help! This week we are learning all about the letter H and the sound it makes. Book orders are due on Friday. Have a great week!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Gillespie: Happy Wednesday! Hope everyone is having a good week. We are reviewing all letters and numbers learned so far. As well as learning the letter N, n and number 9. Please remember to send your Grandparents Day paper back ASAP, so we can get a head count. We are practicing and looking forward to celebrating with them.

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: Is it Fall or Winter? Please remember to send a jacket labeled with your child's name in it every day. Grandparents' Day sign up forms were due today! Please return it tomorrow if you haven't yet. Invitations are in folders today. Please remember that we will dismiss at 11:00 that day and will not have school the rest of the week. Our November Chapel offering is canned food for the church food pantry. Our book order is due to me or online by Friday. Books make great Christmas gifts! This is a good way to get some gifts bought and help our class earn books and games. Our Bible words this week are, Give us this day, our daily bread. KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: Thank you parents for our awesome "Fall party"! The field trip forms for the production of "The Snow Queen" are due this week on Friday the 8th. This allows us time to order the tickets. The show will be on December the 5th at 1:00 pm. Please mark your calendar and tell your child's grandparents about "Grandparents Day" on November the 26th. The invitations will come home later. Also, to all the working parents that need time to schedule things, our next party will be for Christmas on December 19th a Thursday at 2:30 pm. Then on the 20th we will have school for a half day wearing our P.J.'s and watching a movie. I hope everyone has a wonderful week!

FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Memory verse for Friday is Psalm 23:3 - He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Field trip forms and money are due on Friday - please make sure to get these turned in if you have not done so yet. We are collecting canned food for our chapel offerings this month. Please see the chatter for special competition days. Grandparents Day is on Tuesday, November 26. More information will be coming out later. Happy belated birthday to Bennett on Monday, November 4! SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: In this month of counting blessings, I am thankful for you and your dear children.

I am blessed to be their teacher and I thank you for sharing them with me! We're busy preparing for Grandparents' Day. Please remind your child's grandparents to save November 26 to be our guest. Vision screening is November 14. Thank you for helping us have a fun Halloween party. The treats were delicious! Every second grader returned their book Report Scarecrows. Thanks for your help. A family turkey decorating project came home today. It is due on or before November 15. There will be a prize so charge your creative juices. Let me know if you have questions or concerns.

THIRD GADE – Mrs. Steichen: Welcome November!! I just loved seeing everyone in their costumes last week and different colors for Red Ribbon Week. This week: 1st Commandment and meaning is due today. Next week 2nd Commandment and meaning are due. Remember you all are able to work ahead. Spelling and Reading Test: Friday. Next week is a review week, so review spelling words, no test or paragraph. We will start our next in class chapter book; this will take us a couple weeks. Math: We finished our Halloween packet, back to nightly homework. Next Tuesday, November 12th, will be our next test. I hope these grades are better than the last time. If kids continue to rush, I will have to take corrections away. Social Studies: We are moving on to our new unit on Communities. Science: we are also moving on to a new unit on plants. Grandparents Day: we have been working hard on our play; please let me know if your child will not be here. Also, if anyone has a Grinch costume, could we use it? Request: We are in need of a new electric pencil sharpener; if anyone would like to donate one to our classroom, we would greatly appropriate it. FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: It is really good seeing God working in our families, lives, and our classrooms.

Friday memory is the first verse to a Mighty Fortress is Our God. Keep Reading for AR – remember you will earn Pizza Hut just for reading! Please let me know if your child will not be here for Grandparent’s day ASAP. School vision testing is the 14th of this month. Don’t forget to dress appropriately for the ever changing weather. Remember to bring in your canned food for our mini competitions, and money for our adopted children. Blessings as we praise the Lord!

FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: It's nice to have a "normal" week at school. Halloween is always an exciting time for kids, and it makes it a bit hard to concentrate on school work. It takes time and effort to do our best. Some of us are still rushing to get done as quickly as possible and grades reflect this. Please check your child's grades regularly on Fast Direct. Encourage your child (as I'm sure you already do :) to SLOW DOWN, recheck work and do the very best they can.

FIFTH GRADE SCIENCE – Mrs. Hanson: Science- Hi 5th grade parents! I'm so sorry it's taken me a full quarter to realize you should be hearing from me! But from now on, you will get information about your 5th grader's science class from me here below Mrs. Schatte's chatter article.

My name is Jennelle Hanson, and I have been teaching your student science since the beginning of the year ;) It has been a great experience and I am really glad we decided to do this. I have been introduced to a whole new world that is 5th grade. We have had a slow start, but that was to be expected. The students are learning the drill and settling into the content. Since the beginning of the year we have been learning the parts of the scientific method, we have had experiences with each step and are now learning about scientific experiments and its parts. This is, of course, important to all other science, but is also important because we will have a science fair this school year.

This week we will be reviewing our most recent lessons and then taking a quiz by the end of the week.

MIDDLE SCHOOL FLY: We meet every Wednesday from 5:30-7:00 for dinner, devotions, and games. This is open to all 6th-12th grade students. Watch for an adjustment to the times as we approach Advent season.

Mrs. Scott: General 6th Grade Math had their Chapter 4 test today. They will begin Chapter 5 tomorrow.

Advanced 6th/General 7th Grade Math had their Chapter 5 test yesterday and has started Chapter 6. Advanced 7th Grade Math is working with fractions and decimals. 8th Grade Algebra has started Chapter 4 with graphing linear equations. All classes are moving right along in the book!

6th Grade Religion has completed memorizing The Lord’s Prayer and the Petitions. Next, we are memorizing the Books of the Old Testament. Memory work due today included the (5) Books of Moses and (12) Other Historical Books for a total of 17 books. Memory work due next week is the (5) Poet Books and the (5) Major Prophets.

Mrs. Hanson: 6th grade is figuring out the difference between mass and weight and doing hands on activities to learn more about volume, weight, and mass.

7th grade is moving on to sedimentary rocks after learning all there is about igneous. All of this info is prepping us for our field trip to the salt mines that will be happening soon!

8th grade has started to pin insects to create our collaborative insect collection. All while continuing to work on their info graphic. The bacteria information of their project is due Thursday.

All classes will have a vocabulary quiz this Friday.

With eligibility on the line, please remember that it's easier keeping up than catching up.

Mr. Covert: We’ve made it to November! I hope everyone is doing well as we move deeper into this quarter.

Classes have been moving right along. In 8th grade, we’re working through Westward Expansion. This week we’ll also start in on some of the divisions that resulted in the Civil War. 7th grade is working their way through the country of Brazil. As for 6th grade, we’re looking to wrap up the events in Greek history this week, before starting on Greek culture.

Mrs. Harbeson: Hello! I hope you're having a wonderful week! Now that November is here, the second quarter will really start flying by! Here's what's going on...

8th grade: We are going to the Tulsa Ballet to see The Nutcracker on Friday, December 13. Information and permission sheets came home yesterday/today with everything you need to know. Please return the PERMISSION slip to me by this Friday, Nov. 8, so I can get our seats reserved. Money doesn't have to be turned in until later in the month.

We depend on parents to get us there, so I hope many of you are interested in going! We will also be reading the book in class before we go. I hope you all are super excited to experience something new!

7th grade: The class is working on finishing the reading for The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe before we watch the movie. All students are working on their 2nd quarter Bloom Ball projects. You will have some time in class to work, but the majority of the work will need to be completed outside of class. This is a big project and is worth two test grades! Please give me your best effort and create something that you are proud to say is yours!

6th grade: We are finishing Maniac Magee in literature and are working on how sentences are structured and put together in grammar. I'm seeing some real improvement in my class when it comes to self-control and effort. Keep up the good work!

We have outside recess every day, and some days are getting pretty cool. Please remember to send a jacket with your student to school EVERY DAY! Also, please make sure their name is in the jacket.
