Last year after Halloween, we shut down the middle school classes for a week or two. Lord willing, we will not need to do that again but keep vigilant and praying.

November is our Canned Food Drive Competition in Chapel Offering: Wed. Nov. 3 is Boys vs. Girls (which group will bring the most), Wed. Nov. 10 is ECE vs. ELE vs. MS buildings, and Wed. Nov. 17 is OU vs. OSU vs. EVERYONE ELSE. FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH AND SCHOOL 10TH ANNUAL CHRISTMAS MARKET OKLAHOMA FESTIVAL, scheduled for Saturday, December 4th, 2021, is rapidly approaching. If you would like to be a vendor or know someone who would like to participate, please call the church or school office or Shirley Zimmerman (580) 761-4657, thank you!

COLLECTING PONCA CITY SANTA BUCKS: Businesses will start giving out Santa Tickets this weekend!

First Lutheran will be collecting the Santa Shops Ponca 1st tickets that are given out at participating local businesses each time you make a purchase during the Christmas season. If you are willing to donate yours to the school, please drop them by the school on or before December 20th. You can also place them in the black mailbox in front of the Administration Building.

BOOK FAIR: It’s book fair time! The Book Fair will be arriving next week, probably on Thursday; keep an eye out for the big truck with Clifford on the side!

The Book Fair is held in the main library, in the Administration Building. It will be open after school the week of November 15-19 from 3:30 – 4:30 (later if the crowds warrant it). It will be open on November 22 for PreSchool and PreKindergarten’s Grandparent’s Day, and then again on Tuesday, November 23 for K-8th Grandparent’s Day. November 23 will be the last day of the book fair, and we will begin packing up the book fair as soon as the Grandparent’s Day festivities end.

If you could spare any time any of these days to help kids find books at the book fair, we need help! Please call or email the office with the hours and days that you can help.

BASKETBALL SEASON PASS: The first home basketball game will be November 30 versus the Saints. Save time at the gate and purchase your season pass now in the office; they are $20 for adults, $12 for Senior’s, and $12 for Students. (5 and younger, and Military/First Responders with I.D. are free).

FLS NEEDS YOU!: We need subs! Not every-single-day, but people who can save us when we have staff that get sick, have to leave with sick children, etc. We need subs for teachers, teachers’ aids, cafeteria, computer, etc. You can volunteer or be paid for subbing, and if you have plans the day we call, you can always say no. You can even specify what jobs or days you are available/not available and for which grades you will or won’t do. If you, and aunt, uncle, grandparent, etc. are willing to be on our sub list, please contact the office with their details.

FALL PICTURES ARE IN!: If you ordered and didn’t get yours, please email or call the office (762-9950) and let us know asap.

INK & TONER RECYCLING: Help us keep your costs down! If you have a new or used ink or toner cartridge that you are done with, please send them with your student and the teachers will get them to the office. We recycle these and earn credit on the supplies that the school purchases each month. THANK YOU for your help with this!

Mr. Birnbaum: I hope you all enjoyed the Monster Mash Saturday night. God blessed us with BEAUTIFUL weather and AMAZING adults who stepped up to put on a GREAT event for all of us.

DAYCARE – Mrs. Vap: With the weather change, we still plan to go outside before, during, and after school.

Please make sure your child has shoes and a coat and that their name or initials is on the tag.

MUSIC – Mrs. Brey: Second and third graders are getting ready to sing in church on November 14th! They have such beautiful voices and I am so excited for the congregation to be able to hear them. On a different note, our composer of the month of November is Martin Luther. He wrote many great hymns that are found in our Lutheran Service Book. Happy Reformation!

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Daine: Our thoughts and prayers go out to Ms. Daine in the loss of her Aunt.

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: I hope everyone had a great time at the Monster Mash/Trunk or Treat! We had a great costume party on Friday! Thank you to all the parents that sent goodies, and to the room moms for helping with it! This week we are learning all about the letters S, R, and D. Have a great week!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: Happy Birthday Grant! We had a great Costume Party! Thank you for sending all of the wonderful goodies! Just a reminder to send a coat/jacket with your child to school every day with their name or initials in it. We go outside most days for recess and walk to the cafeteria every day for lunch. Today was the last day to turn in your October reading calendar for Book It. If you read with your child during October, I will accept the calendar until Friday, and send home a free pizza certificate for your child. Grandparents' Day forms were also due today. If you have not returned yours please do tomorrow, so that we can have a count to plan for food. Book orders are due to me or online by Friday. Show and Tell will be tomorrow. Our Bible words this week are, With God all things are possible. Matthew 19:26 We are learning the letters Nn,Cc,Oo, and the number 5. Have a Blessed week!

KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: This week on Friday is show & tell! Please bring something that will fit in your backpack. Parents, please tell all the grandparents to "save the date" for November 23rd which will be grandparents day at our school. If your child's grandparents can't come, then you can ask an older friend to be a stand-in grandparent for the day. We will sing for the grandparents, make special art for them, take them to our book fair and eat with them and have Chapel with them. It is a special day! It is getting cool outside so please have your child bring a jacket/coat because we will be going outside every day, even when it is cold. Have a wonderful week!

FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Thank you to those of you that helped bring items for the Monster Mash. And a big thank you to Ms. Amanda for organizing our pumpkin decorating and also our game booth, and also our classroom party! Everyone seemed to have a great time! Our memory verse for Friday is Psalm 23:3 -He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Mark your calendars and invite the Grandparents to come join us for Grandparent's Day on Tuesday, November 23. Please make sure to send an appropriate jacket/coat with your child every day; we do go outside for morning recess! November reading logs were sent home on Monday for the BookIt program. Read to earn your Pizza Hut certificate! Blessings on your week!

SECOND GRADE – Ms. Felton: Happy November! This week on Friday is our field trip to Leonardo’s!! Your child needs to wear a bright colored shirt (and sweatshirt if you have one) and pack a lunch. Check your FastDirect and (2)

SeeSaw this week for more information about! Memory next week will be Numbers 6:24-25 on Tuesday and Numbers 6:24-26 (adding verse 6) on Friday. Thank you to Isabella’s, MaryJo’s, and Aspyn’s families for the snacks and water! We have a science test on forces and motion next week. We are finishing our addition facts soon and then we’ll move on to subtraction! The students earned 10 Champion points over the past couple of weeks, so they will have a fun afternoon this week to celebrate their hard work. Grandparents Day is coming this month, along with Thanksgiving. Every night on the November calendar page that was sent home, write down and draw a picture of one thing that your child is thankful for!

THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: HAPPY NOVEMBER! I cannot believe we are in November already. So many fun things coming up to end this year. One big thing coming up is Grandparent's Day. We are starting to practice our routine and I need to know NOW if you child will not be here. Please let me know if you child will not be at Grandparent's Day November 23rd. This week: Spelling, Memory and Reading Test on Friday. Next week is a review week; we will have different spelling words and will start reading a chapter book together in class. NO paragraphs till we are done. Math Test was today, look for no homework the rest of the week in math. We will be doing different activities in class. Social Studies: We are continuing our talks on communities. Look for a test in the next week or so. Science: Plants - look for a test in the next week of so over plants. Book Report: A paper discussing our book report should have made its way home. If you did not get one, please let me know. The book has to be over 100 pages and one they have not read yet.

Also, the project is due November 30th. Have a wonderful week!!

FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: Happy Reformation season as we see how we are changed with Christ in His Freedom! We truly see God in His power with the weather changing. Make sure that we are dressed appropriately for the seasonal change. Let me know if your student will not be here for Grandparents’ Day ASAP; so we may make alternate arrangements for our performance. Save the date for our church singing on Sunday December 12 th! We have started the second quarter off on a good foot; let’s continue to keep the good pace & steady footing for the rest of the year! Please look on FastDirect to not be caught off guard at mid-quarter time! Keep reading for AR. Make sure that you are getting emails or texts to alert you students have taken a test. Some of us are already reading & testing big point books to make 2nd quarter easier; WAY TO GO! Chapel offering is going towards Compassion International, and the church food pantry. Have a great week praising to God!

5th Grade & Middle School P.E. – Coach Amanda: I know that this is the season that kids wear boots- please do not let your child wear wood soled shoes/ boots on PE days as they will not be able to participate.

5th GRADE RELIGION – Mrs. Brey: Religion quiz on Thursday. Students will get a study guide on Tuesday that we will go over in class. The quiz will be a replica of the study guide. Memory work is due on Friday, the 8 th, 9th, and 10th commandment.

6th – 8th MATH – Mr. McKinley: 6th and 7th grade are working this week to finish up Chapter 4 with fractions and decimals.

7th advanced and 8th are finishing up chapter 4 with negative and zero exponents and preparing for chapter 4 test towards the end of the week.

SCIENCE – Mrs. Porter-Cain: BRRRRR! As it is getting colder please remind your kids to bring a coat as we will still be going outside!

5th Science- They tested on Unit 6 and we are moving on to Unit 7!

6th Grade Science- the kids had a fantastic party on Friday afternoon! Thank you to Mrs. Olechnowicz and Mrs. Wells for planning and hosting a great party and to the parents who brought items! THANK YOU! In class we are learning all about plants and how they do what they do!

7th Grade- we have moved into Chapter 4, Geology- The Earth Speaks 8th Grade- we just started Chapter 4- How Cells Work We only have a few weeks until Thanksgiving Break and then a few more weeks until semester ends- please make sure your kids are getting their work in ON TIME!!

CHAPEL OFFERINGS THIS QUARTER ARE CANNED GOODS- INFO IS IN CHATTER- 6TH GRADE, LETS GET OUR GIVING ON AND BRING THOSE NON PERRISHABLES TO MAKE SURE NO ONE GOES WITHOUT, THIS SEASON! HEALTH-SCIENCE – Ms. Porter-Cain: We are still exploring the cardiovascular system!

LANGUAGE – Ms. Kester: Song presentations (religion): These are wrapping up, and students have graced their classmates with dances, raps, spoken word, and anything else you could think of in terms of performance. Further, they are great at creating song lyrics! Parents, I see songwriters in your future.

Memory work (religion): Students are also studying Philippians 4:5-7, which is to be memorized by Friday. These verses have comforted me through trials and challenges, and I hope they do the same for your children as they continue walking through life with our Lord.

English/literature: Current grammar lessons are centered on commas (G7 and G8), sentence diagrams (G6), & separated verb phrases & verb forms (G5). And, as is typical, reading logs for all are due Friday. All grade levels except seventh grade will take literature quizzes Monday. On Tuesday, seventh graders will present their literature slides with speeches in lieu of a quiz. I've been granted a sneak peek at a couple of the slide shows, and I am already impressed.

Projects: Lastly, seventh graders have been given materials for a writing assignment that will span the rest of the academic year. Many of them are extremely excited about it. Requirements are posted on Google Classroom, and a few already have some of the required chapters completed! Ask them what they plan to write about, and be amazed at the originality and creativity of your child. I know I am! Take care and enjoy your day :-) SOCIAL STUDIES – Mr. Brey: 5th Grade: We are going over the three branches of government again with a test on Friday.

6th Grade: Students are creating a presentation on Ancient Egypt. We will have a quiz on Egypt next Tuesday.

7th Grade: We wrapped our unit on Rome and Greece. We are having a quiz on Thursday and then we will continue with the Middle Ages and work our way to a more modern Europe.

8th Grade: We are having our government test on Friday. After that we are going back to American history starting with John Adams and his presidency.
