Last year at this time we shut down the middle school because of several Covid cases. Hallelujah we only have had one here, there, and yonder. So keep praying, monitoring symptoms, sanitizing, and social distancing.

And now, it’s time for the CARDINAL SHOUTOUT; a place for us to recognize how talented and diversified our students are! Congratulations to Anniston Troutman and her dad on their baptism into Christ last Sunday, November 7, 2021!

November is our Canned Food Drive Competition in Chapel Offering: Wed 11/17 is OU vs. OSU vs. EVERYONE ELSE. Condolences to Krista Harbeson and family at the death of her father Phil Howe. We pray God's peace and comfort during this time as we await our heavenly reunion.

Happy November! Book Fair is right around the corner. I need 1 or 2 parent volunteers for busy days.

Our fair will be open for business November 15th-23rd. We will be open after school until 4:30 or as long as there are people shopping. Tuesday Nov. 16th will be our morning event, "Donuts with Dads." Thursday Nov. 18th is "Muffins with Moms." During Grandparent's Days, please pay us a visit after chapel and classroom activities! Thank you so much for shopping the book fair! When you spend at the book fair, it benefits the library and allows us to purchase new books.

We have an essay contest associated with the Book Fair. Essay’s should be at least 2 paragraphs, and they should write about their favorite memories of the book fair (and if they are new to the school, any book fair they have ever attended.) They could also write about why they enjoy reading and/or why it is important.

Book Fair Student Helpers: Do you have a middle schooler that will be hanging out after grandparent’s leave for the day? I would very much appreciate their help packing up the Book Fair until 3:10. Please send me a FastDirect or have your student talk with me if they are available.

DAYCARE - ALL AGES - With school closed for the Thanksgiving break, we will offer childcare on Wednesday, November 24th. PLEASE SIGN UP this week so we can get an accurate count and order lunches. We will need a final count by the 17th.

COLLECTING PONCA CITY SANTA BUCKS: First Lutheran will be collecting the Santa Shops Ponca 1st tickets that are given out at participating local businesses each time you make a purchase during the Christmas season. If you are willing to donate yours to the school, please drop them by the school on or before December 20th. You can also place them in the black mailbox in front of the Administration Building. In the event that we win something, if you want to know if it was from your ticket, please write your name on the back of the strip of tickets & we’ll let you know!

FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH AND SCHOOL 10TH ANNUAL CHRISTMAS MARKET OKLAHOMA FESTIVAL, scheduled for Saturday, December 4th, 2021, is rapidly approaching. If you would like to be a vendor or know someone who would like to participate, please call the church or school office or Shirley Zimmerman (580) 761-4657, thank you!

BASKETBALL SEASON PASS: The first home basketball game will be November 30 versus the Saints. Save time at the gate and purchase your season pass now in the office; they are $20 for adults, $12 for Senior’s, and $12 for Students. (5 and younger, and Military/First Responders with I.D. are free).

Mr. Birnbaum: Time is flying and the weather has been GORGEOUS! Grandparent’s Day, Thanksgiving, Advent worship, and Christmas celebrations besides all the basketball and business of the season. Please keep CHRIST as the focus of your HOLYdays.

PARENTS - Be sure to sign your child in and out on Brightwheel as you drop them off and pick them up. You may use your phone or the kiosk provided. If you need any help, please see April or Heidi.

MUSIC – Mrs. Brey: 2nd and 3rd grade will be singing in church THIS SUNDAY! See you at 9am on November th 14 ! (P.S. this group of kids are AWESOME and have INCREDIBLE voices! (But I'll say that about every class - and mean it!!)) Thank you for your continued support of this music program!

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Daine: Grandparents Day is coming soon! Be looking for a sign-up opportunity on ClassTag to bring food. Thank you for all the prayers last week! I felt God's presence in my life, and right when I needed it most. Have a blessed rest of the week.

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: This week we are reviewing the letters S, R, and D. We are also working hard on our scissor skills as well as name writing. Have a great week!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: Wow! We had a lot of food brought for the food drive! Thank you for your generosity! You may continue to bring food the rest of the month. We have been working hard on our Grandparents' Day program. I have added the sign up sheet for food and supplies to our Class Tag page. Please sign up to help make this a great day for your students and their grandparents! We will not have school on that Tuesday; if you will need daycare please let Ms. April or Ms. Heidi know so that they can plan for staff that day. Our Bible words this week are, Give us this day our daily bread. Matthew 6:11 We are still learning the letters Nn,Cc,Oo and the number 6. Have a Blessed Week!

KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: Happy birthday Quinn! Parents, please tell all of the grandparents to "save the date" for November 23rd which will be Grandparents Day at our school (K-8th). If your child's grandparents can't come, then you can ask an older friend to be a stand-in grandparent for that day. Thank you parents for all of the awesome treats during our Halloween/Fall party! Please make sure to send an appropriate jacket/coat to school every day (we do go outside every day). Kindergarten, keep up the good work on your homework and have an outstanding week!

FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Memory verse for Friday is Joshua 1:9 - Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened...for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Our class will be putting together a shoe box of items for Operation Christmas Child. I have a list on Class Tag for you to sign up to bring. Your items will need to be turned in by next week Thursday, Nov. 18. We are collecting canned goods for our chapel offerings. The Book Fair starts next week and will be open after school. Please invite Grandparents to join us on Tuesday, Nov 23. The children's Christmas Program will be on Thursday, Dec. 9 at 6:30 - 1st grade will also be a part of this. There is a lot going on so be sure to read the Chatter! Blessings on your week!

SECOND GRADE – Ms. Felton: I hope that you are enjoying the bright fall leaves! We are ready to sing at church here at First Lutheran this Sunday, Nov. 14 at 9am! We are also looking forward to Grandparent’s Day on November 23. Memory next week will be Psalm 23:1-3 due Tuesday, and Psalm 23:1-4 on Friday. We began a “Manipulation Game” this week where we change letters in words to make new words. Mid-quarter reports are coming out this week, so be sure to check your child’s red folder on Friday to see how they are doing. This also means that AR goals are getting closer. We continue to test on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during centers. Please be reading at home so that your child can reach their goal! Most students raised their goals for this quarter, which is awesome, so they’ll need to be taking tests each week to reach it! Thank you to everyone who chaperoned our field trip to Leonardo’s last Friday. The kids keep asking me if we can go back :) Thank you for sharing them with me each day!

THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: Can you believe how quickly time is going by? Look for grade reports this week. This quarter usually has less grades in subjects like Science and Social Studies, so please talk to your child about this and the impact it has. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Grandparents Day: PLEASE if you will not be here let me know; everyone has a part and is very important in what we are doing. This week: Memory: 3 rd Commandment and meaning. Reading: Chocolate Touch, A.R. test over the book on Friday. No reading test this week.

Spelling: Unit 2 review words; test on Friday. Singing in Church: Remember that this Sunday we sing in church at 9 am.

I cannot wait to see everyone there! Science: Test on Friday over plants. Look for a review to be sent home today.

Social Studies: Quiz tomorrow. A review should be on your child over the sizes of communities. Next couple weeks we will be studying Native American cultures.

FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: It is really good seeing God working in our families, lives, and our classrooms.

Friday brings us reading test, memory test of first commandment, with verse to support, NE State & Cap test.

Midterms come out next Wednesday. This means we are half way into a short quarter for grades and AR goals. Are you content with how your student is performing? Make sure we are taking late work seriously. It is a very unhealthy habit to be in and even harder to get out of. Detentions are being handed out for the third late assignment in a week. I can’t wait for the book fair next week. There will be a lot of great book selections. Please let me know if your child will not be here for Grandparent’s day ASAP. Don’t forget to dress appropriately for the ever changing weather. Mark your calendar for us singing in church on December 12th. Blessings as we stay safe with the Lord!

5th Grade & Middle School Basketball – Coach Amanda: We have started the Shidler Tournament! Go Cards!

5th GRADE RELIGION – Mrs. Brey: Students took a quiz on Thursday last week. Grades are in the gradebook. Your child will know about extra credit opportunities within the next week. No memory verse due this Friday, the students are practicing their speaking parts for the Christmas program!

5th GRADE MATH – Mr. Birnbaum: ALL our advance math students made 90% or higher on their Chapter 4 test MONDAY. CONGRATULATIONS!!!

6th – 8th MATH – Mr. McKinley: 6th and 7th will test on Chapter 4 on Tuesday and start Chapter 5, fractions, on Wednesday.

7th advanced and 8th did pretty good on the chapter test 4 last week. This week we start Chapter 5 with more on decimals and fractions.

SCIENCE – Mrs. Porter-Cain: 5th Science is busy with all the matter! Mass, matter, and properties! 6th Science is learning The Who, What, When, and Where of plants! 7th Science – into the great unknown is where we are headed! All things space! 8th Science – Cells, plants and animals!

P.E. – Mrs. Porter-Cain: We will be getting into Capture the Cone!

HEALTH SCIENCE – Mrs. Porter-Cain: What our favorite food really does?!

LANGUAGE – Ms. Kester: Literature examinations and final presentations are wrapping up, grammar lessons are accelerating, and religion discussions are going deep. As usual, all quiz dates are posted on Google Classroom as well as upcoming grammar lessons.

We are also preparing for Grandparents Day this month and the spelling bee taking place December 8. Lastly, a shout-out to students Anniston Troutman and London Pettigrew for their amazing, wonderful, glorious baptisms!

We celebrate you with the angels in heaven.

SOCIAL STUDIES – Mr. Brey: 5th Grade: We are continuing to learn about the Bill of Rights and the Constitution. We will have a quiz on this early next week.

6th Grade: Students are discovering there are more African kingdoms besides Egypt. Students will be exploring this for the rest of the week.

7th Grade: Students are beginning our Middle Ages section of our European unit. We will have a quiz on this on Monday and then move on to the renaissance.

8th Grade: Students are learning about our nations early history and the first two parties in the United States.

Students will need a three ring binder at the beginning of next week for our "Westward Expansion" unit!
