Have had a couple of Covid concerns over the weekend. One was positive and the other was negative for rapid and waiting for the second result. Necessary people have been contacted and monitoring will continue. Stay diligent.

DAYCARE – ½ DAY THIS FRIDAY – Ms. Vap: If you need childcare for the remainder of the day this Friday, please contact the Daycare Office by 10 am on Thursday as we will need a final count for lunch and staffing. Thank you!

Monster Mash will be Saturday, October 30 with Trunk-or-Treat from 4:00-6:00, Games from 6:00-7:30, dance (for all ages) 7:30 – 9:00. Costume Judging & Class Pumpkin winners announced at 8 p.m. Please help your class Room Parent with working your game / getting supplies.

We will have a Costume Contest, and the prize categories are: adults & children: Most Original, Best DIY, Biblical, Funniest, Group Theme). The categories for the Class Pumpkin Decorating Contest are: Most Biblical, Most Creative, Most Original, Most Student Involvement.

MONSTER MASH – PLEASE BRING THIS: We need students in each class to bring items to contribute towards our Monster Mash activities, to keep the expenses down. 1ST QUARTER CHAPEL OFFERINGS: Victor & Rosario - are two children that we sponsor with Compassion International through our Wednesday Chapel Offerings. It cost $38 a month per child and we have raised $230.67. We are able feed them for three months. Could you help us raise these children with funds?

FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH AND SCHOOL 10TH ANNUAL CHRISTMAS MARKET OKLAHOMA FESTIVAL, scheduled for Saturday, December 4th, 2021, is rapidly approaching. If you would like to be a vendor or know someone who would like to participate, please call the church or school office or Shirley Zimmerman (580)761-4657, thank you!

FLS NEEDS YOU!: We need subs! Not every-single-day, but people who can save us when we have staff that get sick, have to leave with sick children, etc. We need subs for teachers, teachers’ aides, cafeteria, computer, etc. You can volunteer or be paid for subbing, and if you have plans the day we call, you can always say no. You can even specify what jobs or days you are available/not available and for which grades you will or won’t do. If you, and aunt, uncle, grandparent, etc. are willing to be on our sub list, please contact the office with their details.

ELECTRIC WHEEL CHAIR: - Does anyone have an electric wheel chair that they would be willing to sell?

BOXTOPS: We can’t clip them anymore; we have to scan receipts via the BoxTop app. If you would drop your grocery / office supply receipts 1) in the black mailbox in front of the administration building or 2) put them in your child’s backpack, they will get them to the office where we will scan them and then throw them away or return them, whichever you prefer. If you get electronic receipts (think WalMart grocery pickup), please forward those to Connie at lutheransecretary@yahoo.com, and I can send them in through my account. Thank you!

INK & TONER RECYCLING: Help us keep your costs down! If you have a new or used ink or toner cartridge that you are done with, please send them with your student and the teachers will get them to the office. We recycle these and earn credit on the supplies that the school purchases each month. THANK YOU for your help with this!

Mr. Birnbaum: Can you believe that we have only one week left in October? This quarter will go quick so keep on your children to do their best.

Mrs. Harbeson: Congratulations to our 2021-2022 student council members! President - London Pettigrew, Vice President - Lauren King, Secretary - Khloe Andrews, Treasurer - Jordyn Heitman. Members – Jagger Laughlin and Charly Boyd.

Our new members are already hard at work planning for Red Ribbon Week which is Monday, October 25 - Friday, October 29. We will be having contests and dress up days!

MUSIC – Mrs. Brey: We had a guest visitor in the music room last week. Rebecca Harris read stories to the students and has been gracious to help us find instruments and other materials for our music classroom. Students in grades 2-5 will continue their work on the Christmas program this week. Additionally, 2nd and 3rd grade will work on their song for their upcoming church service on NOVEMBER 14. Mark your calendars and I will send a note home within the next few weeks.

CAFETERIA – Ms. Lyons: The way the world is right now is strange! When I place my food order, sometimes I don't get what is on the menu. I make the menu early, so there might be last minute changes. I'm sorry for this but it can't be helped. I try hard to update the menu so please check online.

LIBRARY – MRS. MANNING: Do you have any cookbooks laying around the house not in use? The kids love to look through them, and the few that we have are always checked out, and they are “hungry” for something new! If you would be willing to donate them, our students would appreciate it so much.

Now is a good time to look for overdue library books. If you have some that you're finished with, make sure to turn them in so that you're ready for the next quarter!

Next month is our Scholastic Book Fair. I need a couple of parent volunteers for our events! If you are interested in volunteering, please contact me via FastDirect or call the school.

In Computer we are finishing up our first quarter typing lessons.

In Art we have been working on collage, painting, and drawing!

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: This week we are learning the letters H, L, and I. Thank you to all the parents that went on, and helped with, the field trip last week; the kids really enjoyed it! Parent Teacher Conferences are this week; I look forward to meeting with all of the parents! Have a great week!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: I hope you all had a wonderful fall break! Please remember to label your child's jackets/coats with their name. Parent Conferences are underway; if you can't make your time, please let me know so that we can reschedule. Our Bible words this week are, God says, "I am with you". Genesis 28:15 We are learning the letter cluster Pp,Tt,Ii and the number 3 this week. Have a Blessed week!

KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: This week your child will get their report card during our parent/teacher conference. Your child's day and time for the conference can be found on the kindergarten ClassTag or you can text me and ask. I hope everyone had a wonderful "Fall Break". On Friday we get out early with dismissal at 11:20. Our class Halloween/costume party will be on Friday the 29th but parents cannot come because of COVID, so sorry. Then on Oct. 30th will be our Monster Mash. Have an amazing week!

FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: I hope that everyone had a wonderful Fall Break and we are ready to start the 2nd Quarter! Memory verse for Friday is Psalm 23:1 - The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. Parent/teacher conferences will be held this week. If you cannot make your scheduled time, please let me know. We have a lot happening next week! We have special dress days for Red Ribbon Week, we will have our party on Friday, Oct.29, and Trunk or Treat/ Monster Mash on Sat, Oct 30. 1st grade boys are to bring a case of 20 oz Gatorades and 1st grade girls are to bring a bag of Smarties. You may bring these items to our classroom anytime. Thanks for your help! Friday is early dismissal! Have a great week!

SECOND GRADE – Ms. Felton: Happy beginning of the second quarter! Please check that you know when your parent/teacher conference is this week. I'm looking forward to meeting with you! For memory we are beginning the Commandments and their Meanings. This week both are on Thursday, but next week and following the Commandment will be on Tuesday and the Meaning will be on Friday. I’ll send out the new memory list that will take us until Christmas. We have a science test over the second part of our science unit next Thursday. Next Friday afternoon we will have a Halloween party in class. Congratulations to all of the Second Grade Scholars for meeting their AR goals! Time to keep reading for the second quarter! :) THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: Welcome to the 2nd quarter!!! I hope everyone had a nice and relaxing fall break. From all the stories is sounds like everyone had a wonderful break. This week: Reminder that Friday is a half day. We will dismiss at 11:20 am. Test: Memory, Spelling, Reading, Language, and Math all on Friday before we leave.

Otherwise this is a normal week. We are starting a new unit in Science, over plants. We are also starting a new unit in Social Studies next week over communities and their sizes. Parent/Teacher Conferences: Thank you to all who have come and talked about your amazing child. I look forward to meeting with the rest of you these next couple days. A.R. New goals have been set, and we are ready to tackle these goals. Look for a note on our reward this week. Have a wonderful week!

FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: Hope you had a great, safe, relaxing Fall Break! We are in a short week as we have had a long weekend! Chapel offering is going towards children from Compassion International. AR goals have reset after fall break. Spelling, reading, and memory tests are on Friday. I can’t wait to speak to each of you at Parent Teacher Conferences this week. Remember we have a half day of school on the 22nd. Thank you for your commitment for your child’s education and success! I am so glad that First Lutheran and I are on your team to assist your child for their flourishing achievement. As the weather is making many changes, make sure kids are dressed appropriately for the weather. Blessings as we follow Christ’s paragon example!

5th Grade & Middle School ATHLETICS – Coach Amanda: BIG SHOUTOUT TO OUR CHEER PROGRAM! The squad went to their first competition of the year and brought home the hardware!

DIVISION CHAMPIONS! BEST JUMPS! And London Pettigrew got ATHLETE OF THE DAY! Way to go ladies!!

Basketball- TIS THE SEASON!! We kick our season off in EIGHT DAYS!! Varsity girls and boys will be traveling to Hillsdale on the 28th!

5th GRADE RELIGION – Mrs. Brey: Conferences start this week Thursday! Please make sure you've checked FastDirect for a message from Mrs. Harbeson regarding sign up times. For religion, students have memory due this Friday: the fourth and fifth commandments.

5th GRADE MATH – Mr. Birnbaum: Report Cards Conferences will mostly be Friday afternoon. Let Mr. Birnbaum know if you need a different day or time.

6th – 8th MATH – Mr. McKinley: The break was great, I hope we all enjoyed our time off. All of the math classes finished up chapter 3 testing and we are moving on to chapter 4. We will be learning more about fractions, greatest common factors, and least common multiples.

SCIENCE – Mrs. Porter-Cain: Hello 2nd quarter!! I hope everyone enjoyed their Fall Break! We are already getting back to business in our science classes!

5th Grade Science- Starting Unit 6- Earth and Space!!

6th Grade Science- Starting Unit 4- How living things grow and reproduce. We will be working on learning about Classification!

7th Grade Science- Starting Chapter 3-Maps and Mapping 8th Grade Science- Starting Chapter 3- Cell Structure PE2nd-4th- Hungry Hippos 5th-8th Health Science-Cardiovascular LANGUAGE – Ms. Kester: We are refreshed after our nice long weekend, and gearing up for Monday's AR book quizzes on chapters 1 through 5 in grades 5, 6, and 8. Seventh graders will work on presentations in lieu of a quiz for their AR book. Be aware that I've made a slight change for this week for reading logs - students will submit required minutes for this week and the next week on one reading log that is due October 29.

In grammar and religion, we will keep moving forward on their next lessons, even creating a psalm or song in religion class. Speaking of the latter, memory work is due this Friday, October 22. Students will have had two weeks to review it in addition to class time, so I am expecting great things. Have a great finish to your week!

SOCIAL STUDIES – Mr. Brey: 5th Grade: Students will learn about how the United States made the constitution its foundation and will be able to explain the various challenges the young nation had.

6th Grade: We are continuing our Egyptian unit. This should take us about two weeks and we will have a project at the end of the unit.

7th Grade: Students will be able to mentally map countries and different physical features.

8th Grade: Students are currently learning about our government. We will be exploring civic duties analyzing different parts of our government this week. By the end of the week students should be able to pass a citizenship test.

We have outside recess every day, and some mornings are getting pretty cool. Please remember to send a jacket with your student to school eVERY day! Also, please, please, please make sure their name is in the jacket. They will have a much more enjoyable recess period if they are warm, and so will the staff who is supervising them on the playground!
