If you haven’t already, you can order online, or fill out the envelope and return to your student’s teacher along with your payment (including tax!) the VERY FIRST THING THURSDAY MORNING. OCTOBER 10 & 11 SCHOOL WILL BE CLOSED FOR THE LUTHERAN TEACHER NATIONAL CONVENTION; Thank you to all of those that signed up; daycare will be OPEN OCTOBER 10 & 11 for those that signed up. If you missed sign-up, but need care those days, please talk to Ms. Heidi in daycare ASAP. OCTOBER 18 & 21 IS FALL BREAK, AND SCHOOL WILL BE CLOSED; signup sheets for daycare those days are posted in daycare; make sure to sign up if you need care on those days! If we don’t have enough sign up, daycare will be closed. (You can also call the office to sign up, and we will get the message to Ms. Heidi.

October 25 we have a half-day of school, but daycare will be open. PLEASE let daycare or the office know if your student will be going to daycare that afternoon, so that we will have enough lunches for everyone!

TRUNK OR TREAT: Save the Date!! Saturday, October 26th First Lutheran Church & School will host our Trunk or Treat Festival. This will replace our previous years “family fun night”. We’ll have carnival games, food, fun, and of course Trunk or Treating! Watch for more information from your class parent about how you can help.

KINDLES FOR SALE: The middle school has upgraded to ChromeBooks, so the Kindle Fire 7’s that were formerly used in the middle school are now for sale. They have 5 GB, come with cases, but no charging cords. 1 for $30, 2 for $50, 3 for $60. Stop by the office to take a look and/or purchase them. We currently have 6 left, so don’t wait if you are interested.

Just download the app and scan your receipt within 14 days of purchase and we get points! We will continue to gather your clipped box tops until December. Thank you for helping us earn points and cash!

WE NEED YOUR USED INK/TONER CARTRIDGES: We collect and recycle ink & toner cartridges for credit on our Staples bill! Please donate your ink/toner cartridges by bringing them to the office, leaving them with your teachers to send to the office, or leave them in the black mailbox between the office and the parking lot. We also collect and recycle (broken or working) cell phones, other small electronic devices like iPods and Kindles (sorry--no desktops), laptops, and charging cords. Using these credits on our ink purchases each month helps us to keep our costs down, which helps you (the people whose tuition pays our bills)! Thank you!

CHEER COMPETITION: Your FLS cheerleaders will be competing at the MCDA cheer and dance competition at Frontier City on Saturday, October 19th! Come out and show them your support, and then go have fun on some roller coasters! Spectator tickets (which include park entry) can be purchased for $23 + tax at frontiercity.com using promo code CHEER. Y.A.L.L.: The Red Letter Challenge group WILL meet this Thursday evening!

SPIRIT SHIRT ORDERS: FLS cheerleaders are selling Cardinal Spirit shirts, hoodies, and hats this year! DEADLINE EXTENDED! Orders are due October 15th. For a clear picture of the design see the digital copy of the chatter or our FLS facebook page! Order forms are attached to the chatter, and are also available in the office.

STAPLES CLASSROOM REWARDS: Thank you to everyone who entered receipts or brought them to the office; we currently have a $44.67 October credit thanks to parents like you who take the time to help us reduce our expenses!

FALL INDIVIDUAL PORTRAIT DAY is Thursday, October 3; information went home with students last week. CHAPEL OFFERINGS: After 6 chapels, we have collected $350.41 in Chapel Offerings to be used to sponsor Romaric and Bernadette this school year! Please remember to bring your chapel offerings on Wednesday’s so that we can continue to help these children!

PRINCIPAL – Mr. Birnbaum: Welcome to OCTOBER and cooler weather. A lot happening this month including school closed next Thursday & Friday (Oct. 10 & 11). The teachers have a National Lutheran Teachers Convention every three years. Sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause.

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: This week we are learning all about the letter M and the sound it makes. We will be going to the Quail Valley farms Pumpkin Patch on October 8th. Have a great week!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Gillespie: We have had a busy week! Several birthday celebrations; Happy Birthday to Brooks and Declan! We enjoyed fire prevention assembly today. Picture Day Tomorrow!! Turn in picture form/$ to me or please let me know if you ordered online. Friday is Show and Tell for everyone; it must fit in their backpack. And we are counting down to our field trip to Pumpkin Patch on Tuesday. Remember to bring a sack lunch and drink. We have learned all our vowels and numbers 1-6, and all their colors. They are doing fantastic!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: Happy Birthday Kynzlee and Carsyn! Pictures are TOMORROW! If you haven't returned your order form, it must be with your student before pictures or let me know that you ordered online. Book orders are due to me or online on Friday. Show and Tell is also on Friday. Our Pumpkin Patch field trip is Tuesday; look for the reminder note in folders today. Our Bible words this week are, Beloved we are God's children now. 1 John 3:2 We are learning the Letters and sounds Mm, Aa, Ss, and the number 1. KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: We are now on Unit 2 book 1 in our reading. Happy late birthday to Gracie (929)! Our Field Trip is Tuesday and we will leave the school at 8:15. Please look for the special note in your child's backpack. Our class show and tell will be this Friday the 4th. Have an awesome week!

FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Memory verse for Friday is Matthew 22:37 - You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. Book-It information came home yesterday. Your child will get a Pizza Hut certificate for a personal pizza when they read and turn in their reading logs at the end of the month.

Remember that tomorrow is picture day! Please order online or turn in your picture order to me by Thursday! Your child brought home their second book cover. I changed Social Studies curriculum over the summer and we no longer use a text book. You can save if for next year! We are looking forward to our Field Trip on Tuesday! Please be ready to leave school by 8:15! Bring a sack lunch and a drink! Blessings on your week!

SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: Happy October! Thank you so much for helping our class have a wonderful day at Leonardo's. I appreciate you for being willing to spend your day with us and especially those who drove. The children came back with great stories about their adventure. We're happy to welcome Antjuan Howell to our classroom. Watch for a note this week regarding our AR reward for the first quarter and save October 16 to join us. THIRD GADE – Mrs. Steichen: Hello October!! We are only a couple more weeks away from finishing up the first quarter of 3rd grade! Where has the time gone? We are finishing things up and working on corrections. Please keep checking your child's grades. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. This week: Memory: All the books of the Old Testament. The song link is on my bulletin board on FastDirect. Spelling and Reading test Friday. Next week we will drag out the story since we only have 3 days of school. The Reading and Spelling test will be October 17th; it will be on the story I Wanna Iguana. Picture Day: Please remember picture day is October 3rd. These are the pictures that are used in the yearbook. Also, October 3rd is Bring your Bible Day. Please have your child bring their Bibles from home. A.R Party: Please look for a note this week for our A.R party, and mark your calendars for October 16th. Science Projects: we are working on this in class, your child may work on them at home; they will need access to a computer.

FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: Check Chatter for upcoming days off and important days to mark on your calendar. The quarter is coming to an end very soon. Look for the appointment sheet for Parent Teacher Conference coming in the school mail soon.

Bring your Bible tomorrow for National Bring Your Bible to School Day. Some of us have a long way to go to make the first quarter AR goal! Please have your scholars to read nightly for AR. It really helps when we take the book home at night! Continue to go over assignments with students for simple mistakes; this makes a big difference for academic understanding & retention of material. Fast Direct is a great tool to see how scholars are doing. October starts our reading program, Book-It (Pizza Hut). Please look on Fast Direct for more information about this program. Keep Reading! The NE State & Cap test is on the 14th. Peace as we Praise God. FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: We're staying busy here in the 5th grade. We're working really hard on selfcontrol. I want our classroom to be an environment where everyone has the opportunity to learn and grow. We welcome with joy Porter Hunt, who joined our class this week. It's great to have him as part of our FLS family! Blessings!

MIDDLE SCHOOL F.L.Y.: Join us this Wednesday for FLY! We’ll meet in the youth house for pizza and devotions, then head to the gym to play basketball. This is open to all 6th-12th grade students.

TAILGATE PARTY!! Join us this Friday before the Wildcats game from 5:30-6:30 for free food and fun! Then head over to Sullins Stadium to cheer on our Wildcats! This event is open to the community for people of ALL ages! Donations appreciated!

Mrs. Scott: I hope everyone had fun on their field trips; we are right back at it in math! General 6th Grade math is multiplying decimals. Advanced 6th Grade/General 7th Grade math had their Chapter 3 test yesterday and will begin Chapter 4 later this week. Advanced 7th Grade math has their Chapter 3 test on Thursday. Advanced 8th Grade math has started Chapter 3 and is solving equations using addition/subtraction and multiplication/division. Picture day is THIS Thursday.

6th Grade Religion: Memory work due today was The Lord’s Prayer, Fourth Petition. Memory work due on 10/9/19 will be The Lord’s Prayer, Fifth Petition.

Mrs. Hanson: So glad to have everyone back from the trips in one piece! I know the 7th graders and I had a blast 3

at our Zoo Snooze, I hope everyone else did as well.

This week is test week! But do not fear! We will review in many ways before the test on Friday. We started with a verbal review in class on Monday, we will do readings and section reviews as well as chapter reviews in the book, and, as always, we will most likely have a review game in which students get the chance to earn extra credit for the test.

BUT!!! studying will still need to be done independently at home. My suggestion: at least 10-15 min/night until the day of the test. Go over vocab, look back through notes, review worksheets we have done, make a quizlet or a kahoot, find practice tests online, study with a friend or family member. So many options, whatever you do, do it and do it well. Try also to make sure you study in a different way each night.

Picture day is Thursday, please return order forms by then.

Mr. Covert: We’re into October! I hope that everyone had a wonderful September and has recovered from our busy last week!

Classes are going to pick up right where we left off. 8th grade is still studying the Constitution, so we see how the Founding Fathers set up our country and how it’s changed since then. In 7th grade, we’re moving to the north to talk about Canada. As for 6th grade, we’re going to start our chapter on the Israelite people this week.

Picture day is THURSDAY! Make sure that picture order forms have been brought back by then!

I pray that God continues to bless our school family as we quickly move toward the end of the first quarter.

I truly appreciate each of you! I also want to thank all of those parents who sent cookies for camp!

7th Grade, our theater trip is coming up on Monday, October 7. Information has been sent home with your student with today's Chatter!

Just FYI...Mrs. Goll will be subbing for me on October 8, 9, and 14 as I will be preparing for, celebrating, and recovering from my son's wedding on October 12. All classes will have tests on the 8th and 9th. Mrs. Goll is wonderful and will do an excellent job of filling in for me!
