Y.A.L.L.: The “Young-ish adults living life” group meets every Thursday evening from 7-8 in the youth house. We are currently doing a video series of an “outsider visits the Lutheran church”. SANTA TICKET GIVEAWAY: Thanks to all of your donations, we had 2,658 tickets. While we did get within 1,000 on several of the tickets drawn, we did NOT have a winning ticket. Thank you, though, to everyone who contributed their tickets to the school. We’ll try again next year! Theron King, Mark Sanders, the middle school students in the Christmas Light Elective, and many other students and adults helped to make “Lights at Lutheran” a success this year. Due to your generosity of time and effort, Lights at Lutheran raised $130.60 to assist in providing peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to those in need of a meal. TAX WRITE-OFF: Businesses (and individuals) can get a BIG state and federal tax write off by contributing to the Oklahoma Scholarship Fund. Check it out at www.osfkids.org. SCHOOL OFFICE—TAX STATEMENTS: If you would like a printout of your payments to First Lutheran during 2017 for tax purposes, you can print them off by logging into your FastDirect account, click on the “finances” button on the top, click on “tax report” on the left-hand side, then choose the year you want and click on “Tax Year Printout”. It will bring up a page to print with your payments to First Lutheran categorized and totaled, and it will have our Federal Tax I.D. number on the top. Alternatively, you can request a tax statement from the office by calling 580-762-9950 or sending a FastDirect email to Connie Erickson. This will include school-related expenses only; summer daycare tax statements must be requested by sending a FastDirect email to Heidi Daley or calling daycare at 580-762-1124. Isn't it exciting to think of all the wonderful things God has planned for us in 2020? I pray that your Christmas vacations were filled with worship and wonder at the newborn King! And I pray that the break from school allowed all of us to be well. Thank you to all of the parents who were able to join us on our trip to Ultimate Air just before Christmas. We had a great time and the children were shining examples. Now our AR points return to zero and we begin again. We will also begin working on cursive. Ask your child what we've learned. We'll also begin saying the 10 Commandments (and meaning), beginning this Thursday, January 9 with the First Commandment and its meaning. Copies came home Tuesday. The children also have a copy to keep at school. Please listen to your child say their memory work before coming to school on Thursday mornings. Practice at home makes all the difference. She was the first baby born in 2020 in Stillwater! FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: What a relaxing and refreshing break we had celebrating our Savior’s birth. Now we enjoy Epiphany season, where the Magi came to give the gifts to our Lord. I can tell many kids have read big over CHRISTmas break. Thank you for the fabulous effort, and keep reading for AR. This New Year, quarter, and semester are great opportunities for a good start and a blank slate to write our new blank book that we all write with Christ as our center and focus. Have a great week back to school as we bless others in our kindness. FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: Happy New Year! What a joy to start out a fresh new semester. Thank you to all that remembered me with lovely Christmas cards and gifts. It was so kind of you. We wish a happy birthday in the month of January to Jordyn(8) and Khloe(27). A final thank you to all that made our Christmas party so special. The waffles were delicious and our little sock gnomes we made were adorable! Thanks especially to Mrs. Hunter for her creative ideas. FIFTH GRADE SCIENCE – Mrs. Hanson: 5th graders not only survived but successfully completed one semester of science! I am very pleased and proud of this group and how hard they have worked and how far they have come! Our main goal is to start thinking like scientists, understanding critical thinking, learning how to problem solve, and become more inquisitive. Because we only meet a couple times a week, our progress is slow but significant. We will continue to move more quickly and progressing forward. Because we did not meet in the first semester during conferences, I would like to meet with most of you this semester in a couple weeks. Mainly just to check in, have some formal introductions, but to also give everyone the opportunity to come with any questions, comments, concerns. If you know you would definitely like to have a conference, please let me know. Otherwise, if I see a real need for a conference, I will get in touch with you. We will continue with our fundraiser until the last candy bar is sold! Right before Christmas the few of us who were still here went to Wal-Mart and bought Christmas presents for four children. The money used to purchase these presents was raised by the sales of our candy bars. Thanks to all of you who have supported us in our endeavor; look for us at home basketball games! January 15 will be the beginning of our second semester student council officers so if you are interested in representing your class, we will be voting soon! In case you don't have the middle school dance on your calendar yet, mark Friday, February 21 as the day. We will post the details in next week's Chatter!
Mrs. Scott: Welcome to the new decade! I hope everyone had a wonderful break and is ready to get back to it! General 6th Grade Math completed Chapter 6 Test before the break. If your child missed the last several days before break, their test will be taken this week. They will begin Chapter 7 with rates and ratios. Advanced 6 th/General 7th Grade Math completed Chapter 7 Test before the break. If your child missed the last several days before break, their test will be taken this week. They will begin Chapter 8 with ratios and proportions. Advanced 7 th Grade Math is working with statistics and probability. 8th Grade Algebra is continuing standard form of linear equations. Advanced Algebra will do a quick review over Chapter 7 and will have a chapter test on Monday. 6th Grade Religion: No memory work is due tomorrow. Memory work due on 1/15 is the First Commandment and its meaning. Mrs. Hanson: Welcome to 2020! Let's go into this new year/decade with clear visions for our futures and with our eyes set on God's will. We are diving right into content. Every class is ready for it and I am so pleased with how everyone has come back from break with their head on straight, ready to get down to business. So without losing a beat, we will make sure everyone is prepared for this last semester by having a materials check Thursday. Pencils have been used (or broken �), paper is low, and red pens may be mysteriously missing. So please make sure your student has all the supplies they need to be successful for the remainder of the school year. Then 6th grade will be exploring the states of matter, and it's no longer as easy as solid, liquid, gas, but rather understanding why each state of matter is what it is and looking at other properties of each state. 7th grade will be digging into soils, exploring the many layers and composition of the ground beneath their feet. 8th grade needs to finish up Invertebrates and complete their flipbook which displays all their knowledge about these organisms. Classes are going to pick up where we left off. 8th grade is going to start off with the closing stages of the Civil War. In 7th grade, we’re heading to the opposite side of the globe to study the Far East. As for 6th grade, we’ll be taking a look at how the Roman Empire fractured, and how the Western half fell. 3
Note to all parents: We will be having our next DC fundraiser in the next few weeks, doing concessions for a basketball tournament. I don’t have hours or days just yet, as the tournament field isn’t finalized, but as soon as I do, I will open up a sign up sheet. 8th grade families will get first crack at it. After they’ve had a chance to claim hours, I will open it up to 7th grade families, and finally, 6th grade families. Only families that claim hours will get money from this fundraiser, so keep an eye on the Chatter and on FastDirect for a link to the sign-up! We all really needed a few weeks to rest, celebrate, and recover from illnesses. I hope you are ready for a new start and a new year! For those of you who were sick the last week before Christmas Break, I will be getting with you this week to get you caught up, so this might be a hectic few days. In all classes, we are beginning lesson 8 spelling and vocabulary words, continuing in grammar, and beginning our new novels. That's all I have for now...blessings to you in this new year!

What: Learn what it’s like to be a cheerleader! You will learn a routine to perform at the games against Woodland on January 16, as well as an in school performance (TBA)! When: Practices will be Monday, January 13th- Tuesday, January 14th from 3:30-4:30 in the cafeteria, and Wednesday, January 15th from 3:30-4:30 in the gym. Performance will be Thursday, January 16th at halftime during the Boy’s game, arrive at 7:00. Where: Practices will take place in the cafeteria/gym. Performances will be in the gym. Cost is $35.00 per child. Please turn your registration in to the school office or your homeroom teacher or school office by Thursday, January 9 to ensure your child receives a t-shirt and bow. **Make checks payable to FLS Cheer** Please bring your child to participate in the fun! They do not have to be a student of FLS to participate. Late registrations will be accepted; however, they will not be guaranteed a t-shirt or a bow.
