Covid Update - I love Governor Stitt's plan to keep face to face education and I understand the CDC concerns with the continued spread and limited vaccines. To be honest, I believed/feared from the beginning that 1/3 of the world, 1/3 of our country, 1/3 of our state, and 1/3 of our county and school would be gone by now. I PRAISE GOD for his protecting hand and I ask that you continue to monitor your child's health to reduce our exposures.

FLS MINI-CHEER UPDATE!!: DUE TO COVID/BEYOND OUR CONTROL, Practices are being moved to Wednesday, January 27, Thursday, January 28, and Monday, February 1 in the gym basement/old cafeteria from 3:30 – 4:30. The performance will now be Tuesday, February 2. If you haven’t received a call with new times and dates, please contact Coach Jennifer Heitman via FastDirect.

VISION SCREENING was completed on Friday for our P3 to 8th grade. Your child's homeroom teacher should have sent home the results yesterday or today of ONLY those few students that had concerns. Most of the students did wonderful and their results are in their permanent files.

PART-TIME EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES – First Lutheran Church is looking to hire a part time "administrative assistant" to work in the church office, Monday through Friday, 8:0012:00. Ideal candidates will have good computer skills, positive attitude, self-motivated, dependable, and a willingness to learn. If you're interested or know someone who would be a good fit, contact First Lutheran Church (580) 762-1111 or drop off a resume.

First Lutheran School is looking for part-time help in daycare. In addition to being fingerprinted and pass a background test, applicants also need to have a positive attitude, be dependable, have a personality, language, and behavior that is appropriate when working with children, be physically able to pick up small children to change diapers and as needed, and be willing to work with children of all ages. 2-PAYMENT TUITION REMINDER: If you opted to pay your tuition for the year in two payments, the second half payment is due on or before January 31—in 1 ½ weeks. If you need to switch to a monthly plan for the second semester, please contact the office and let us know.

KINDLES FOR SALE: We found a few more Kindle Fire’s that were left over after the middle school upgraded to ChromeBooks. The one’s we sold previously were 5 GB, so I believe that’s what these are, also. They do not come with charging cords or cases, but they are all charged so you can come look them over. They are first come/first served, 1 for $25, 2 for $40. Stop by Connie’s office to take a look and/or purchase them. We only have 6 left (one has a cracked screen), so don’t wait if you are interested.

PRINCIPAL – Mr. Birnbaum: You may have heard by now that our Middle School Science teacher, Jennelle Hanson, will be moving this summer. We praise God for her ten years in service here and pray God's blessing on their move to the West coast.

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: I hope everyone is having a great week! We are starting this week off by learning all about the letter L and the sound it makes. We are also continuing working on our names, learning what letters are in our name and starting to write it. They are doing a great job!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: Please remember to send a coat with your child everyday! We go outside for recess if it is above freezing, and a light jacket/hoodie isn't enough to keep them warm. Also remember to put your child's name in their coats, so that if they are lost we can get it back to them. Report cards were due back today. Please sign and return yours tomorrow, if you haven't already. Book orders are due to me or online by Friday. Our Valentine party will be on Thursday, February 11th. Look for the note in folders today. Our 100th day of school is also February 11th, there is a note about our plans for it also in folders today. Our Bible words this week are, I trust in You, O Lord. Psalm 31:1 4We are learning the letters, Rr,Ee,Bb and the number 10 this week. Have a Blessed week!

KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: I hope everyone had a great day off on Monday the 18th! We would like to wish Calvin a happy birthday this week on Saturday the 23rd! This week we have been talking about Martin Luther King Jr. who was a great man. Please keep working on your child's sight words and online reading books. The more your child reads, the better readers they will become! I love reading with your kids at school, they are awesome! Have a wonderful week!

FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Memory verse for Friday is Mark 10:14 - Jesus said, "Let the children come to Me; do not hinder them, for such belongs the kingdom of God." Blessings on your week!

SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: Have you noticed the beautiful winter sunrises and sunsets? Our God is so good!

He is in control of all things! Praying you're staying healthy. There are only a few days left for your child to reach their AR goals. Has your child reached their goal? We'll start fresh the first week of February with a new goal that will go until the first week of May. Be prepared for a higher number. Thanks for your help with memory work. It's going great so far! This week is the third commandment and meaning. Blessings!

THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: WOW, what a week in history! We will be discussing the Inauguration and also MLK Day. We would also like to welcome our new student Kyoko. We are so exciting for her to join our class. This week: Spelling, Reading, and Memory all due on Friday. Memory: 10th Commandment and its meaning: You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.

What does this mean? We should fear and love God so that we do not entice or force away our neighbor’s wife, workers, or animals, or turn them against him, but urge them to stay and do their duty. I will be sending home another memory sheet by the end of the week. Science: We are finished with our Matter Unit, we will test on it Friday; a review will come home on Wednesday to help study for it. Remember next week is our last week to meet our A.R. goals. WE are all so close! Please ask your child about their goal. Next goals will run from February till the end of the year, so do not be scared that they are quite higher. Have a wonderful week!!!

FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: Thank you for the fabulous effort, and keep reading for AR. Many are already reading thick books for the next goal. MW State and Cap test is on the 4th; keep practicing. Rose Hill permission slips and money (including photo) is due by Thursday the 21st. Our next Rose Hill Prep day is on the 28th to bake goodies for the next day! If you can help with the baking on please let me know to make this an experience to remember. Book orders are due 1-21-2021. This New Year, quarter, and semester are great opportunities for a good start and blank slate to write our new blank book that we all write with Christ as our center and focus. It is never a good idea to have late work or not turn in work from being absent! Mid terms come out February 3rd. There is time to not have a shock when you look at grades. Fast Direct allows us to see all late work. Have a great week back to school as we bless others in our kindness.

FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: Thanks to Ms. Watts/Ms. SilverSky for subbing in the classroom, so that I could go visit family. It’s comforting to know that the class is in such good hands. I look forward to seeing you on Monday.

FIFTH GRADE SCIENCE – Mrs. Hanson: As we work through our energy unit we will have a few more at-home activities to do. Most of the activities that remain are fairly simple and not very time consuming and do not require major installations. The goal of most of this unit is simply to make students aware of the amount of energy/electricity they use and try to become more energy conscious and conservative. Ask your student what they are learning about energy and how they think they can save energy and money.

MIDDLE SCHOOL Mrs. Scott: 5th Grade Math retook their math test yesterday. We will complete Investigation 5 on Thursday and possibly Friday. Most of the lessons have been reviewed or relatively easy for the majority of the class. Starting with Lesson 51, the lessons will get much harder and will require more time and thought on the homework.

6R Math is well into Chapter 6 with different types of graphs. We will wrap up Chapter 6 this week and will begin our review at the end of the week. Chapter 6 Test is tentatively scheduled for next Tuesday.

8R Math started reviewing for their Chapter 5 Test yesterday. Their test will be on Thursday.

Mrs. Hanson: All classes are still working through the energy unit and, with any luck will be wrapping that up this week. Once we are finished with the unit, we will test. Students have a few more at-home activities they will be doing this week that need to be completed by Monday.

Ms. Kester: Thank you to Cindy, Kera, & Mrs. Hanson for stepping in last week! The students & I appreciate you.

This week, History classes have already presented some great group projects and continue to review Chapter 5 lesson review questions. They will have a pop quiz this week.

Seventh grade Religion presented their forgiveness projects while they and eighth grade Religion also dug deep in worship and surrender. Their Scripture of the Week will be due Friday.

We are missing our sixth graders, but they and we are taking care of business still! They love learning and we love teaching them. As for French class, COLORS are on the agenda. I can't wait! Take care and enjoy the week!

Mrs. Harbeson: Greetings! I hope your week has been treating you well! All is running smoothly in language and literature. All classes are well into their novels, and by the quiz scores and class discussions, everyone is enjoying their books. Please check GoogleClassroom to view the quiz schedule. In language, classes are continuing their work on sentence structure and have begun diagramming. All will be tested next week. Keep up the good work! Blessings to you all!

We have outside recess every day, and some days are VERY cold. Please send a jacket with your student to school EVERY DAY! Also, please make sure their name is in the jacket. They will have a much more enjoyable recess period if they are warm, and so will the staff who is supervising them! (If you cannot afford a jacket for your student, please contact the office, and we will work to find one for your child(ren).)
