OCTOBER 10 & 11 SCHOOL WILL BE CLOSED FOR THE LUTHERAN TEACHER NATIONAL CONVENTION; SIGN UP NOW FOR DAYCARE. If we don’t have enough sign up, daycare will be closed. OCTOBER 18 & 21 IS FALL BREAK, AND SCHOOL WILL BE CLOSED; signup sheets for daycare those days will be posted next Monday (the 30th). Make sure to sign up if you need care on those days! If we don’t have enough sign up, daycare will be closed. October 25 we have a half-day of school, but daycare will be open. PLEASE let daycare or the office know if your student will be going to daycare that afternoon, so that we will have enough lunches for everyone!
TRUNK OR TREAT: Save the Date!! Saturday, October 26th First Lutheran Church & School will host our Trunk or Treat Festival. This will replace our previous years “family fun night”. We’ll have carnival games, food, fun, and of course Trunk or Treating! Watch for more information from your class parent about how you can help. Are you interested in hosting a trunk? MOLLIE KELLY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP LUNCH – Lori Kelly: Thank you to First Lutheran Church and School for hosting, and all that came out for our Mollie Kelly Memorial Scholarship lunch! We appreciate your support in our fight for a cure for Epilepsy, and our scholarship! BOX TOPS!: Box Tops is all new! Thank you for helping us earn points and cash! WE NEED YOUR USED INK/TONER CARTRIDGES: We collect and recycle ink & toner cartridges for credit on our Staples bill! Please donate your ink/toner cartridges by bringing them to the office, leaving them with your teachers to send to the office, or leave them in the black mailbox between the office and the parking lot. We also collect and recycle (broken or working) cell phones, other small electronic devices like iPods and Kindles (sorry--no desktops), laptops, and charging cords. Using these credits on our ink purchases each month helps us to keep our costs down, which helps you (the people whose tuition pays our bills)! Thank you! Y.A.L.L.: The Red Letter Challenge group will NOT meet this Thursday evening. FALL INDIVIDUAL PORTRAIT DAY is A WEEK FROM TOMORROW…Thursday, October 3; information went home with students last week. CHEER COMPETITION: Your FLS cheerleaders will be competing at the MCDA cheer and dance competition at Frontier City on Saturday, October 19th! Come out and show them your support, and then go have fun on some roller coasters! SPIRIT SHIRT ORDERS: FLS cheerleaders are selling Cardinal Spirit shirts, hoodies, and hats this year! DEADLINE EXTENDED! Orders are due October 15th. PRINCIPAL – Mr. Birnbaum: One month from today is Report Card Conferences. Two months from tomorrow will be our Thanksgiving - Grandparent Day celebration. Three months from today will be Christmas. Wow time is flying! PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: Happy Fall! I can't wait for the pretty colors of fall and the cooler weather! This week we are learning all about the Letter L and the sound it makes. We are doing a great job on our names and will soon start learning how to use scissors! Permission slips and Money for the Pumpkin Patch are both due by Friday. Have a great week! PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Gillespie: Happy Fall! We are having a fantastic week so far! We are learning the letter E, e and the vowel song. As well as the numbers 4 and 5. Reminder: Field Trip forms due by Friday!! PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: Happy Fall! We had a great See You at The Pole Chapel this morning! Thank you Elementary for hosting it! The Pumpkin Patch field trip permission slip and money are due back to me on Friday. A reminder note and more information will come home next week. Book orders are in folders today, and are due back to me or online by Friday, October 4th. Picture packets are in folders, and due back to me by picture day (October 3rd). We have finished going through the alphabet, and will start our alphabet clusters next week. We hope to learn all of our letters and sounds before Kindergarten. KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: Our field trip form is due this Friday with the money. We are going to Quail Valley in Winfield on Oct. 8th; each ticket is $5.00. Also, mark your calendar for December 5th in the afternoon for a play production field trip to "The Snow Queen" at Cowley College. Our new letter this week is "Tt" and in class we are working on our new words have, is, at, and can. If your child wears a jacket to school please put their name in it. Have a wonderful Fall week! FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Memory verse for Friday is Psalm 56:3 - When I am afraid, I will trust in You! I would like to welcome Houston to our class! Field Trip forms and money for the Pumpkin Patch are due on Friday. We will also have show and tell on Friday. I would like your child to share a collection or part of a collection (seashells, rocks, marbles, stickers). We're looking forward to our field trip to Leonardo's on Friday. We will leave FLS at 9 and return by 3:10. Remember to pack your lunch and wear an FLS shirt and be ready for a fun day! Thanks to the parents who are taking us. Have you checked your child's AR progress? We're planning a great reward for the students who have reached their AR goals by the end of the quarter. Remember that we take AR tests daily. Each child has plenty of time to succeed. Books read at home can be tested on at school. School picture day is October 3. Envelopes were sent home last week. Blessings! THIRD GADE – Mrs. Steichen: Happy Fall to you all! Now, if only we start having some fall type of temperatures. This week: This is a review week; we are reviewing everything from Unit 1. We are also finishing up our chapter book this week. Next week everything will resume back to normal with Unit 2 lesson 1. Paragraph and Reading test will resume also. Math: Test today, look for our next one after lesson 25. Science: Our next animal project will be coming home later this week. Please be on the lookout for that. Also, we will get a chance to work on it in class and at computer. Please do not stress!! Picture Day: Please remember that next week, October 3rd, is picture day. Forms went home the other day; if you are ordering get those forms to me by picture day. Have a wonderful week!! FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: We have a full week of school, meaning a full swing of instruction. We had a great time praising God at See You at the Pole. Keep reading at home for AR points. Daily reading at home & at school is a must. The end of the first reading period is very soon at the quarter end! We are at many places in making goals. Tests should be taken weekly. Please log in & check with Renaissance, the sheet from back to school night. Starting in Oct we 2
will begin the Book It program by Pizza Hut. Picture day is next Thursday; smile pretty. Book orders that were sent home Monday are due by the 7th. The first quarter is winding up also. MIDDLE SCHOOL F.L.Y.: Join us this Wednesday for FLY! We’ll meet in the youth house for pizza and devotions, then head to the gym to play basketball. This is open to all 6th-12th grade students. TAILGATE PARTY!! Join us this Friday before the Wildcats game from 5:30-6:30 for free food and fun! Then head over to Sullins Stadium to cheer on our Wildcats! This event is open to the community for people of ALL ages! Donations appreciated! Mrs. Scott: The middle school is pretty quiet the rest of the week! 6th Grade Advance/7th Grade General Math will be preparing for their Chapter 3 test which will be taken early next week. I pray for safe travels for the 6th graders at Camp Lutherhoma, the 7th graders at the Zoo Snooze and the 8th graders as they travel to Nebraska! 6th Grade Religion: The Lord’s Prayer, The Fourth Petition is due on 10/2/19. Mrs. Hanson: Well, if you're reading this, your child is probably gone, or leaving very soon. If you are reading this, know that we wish you could have joined us on the trips but we are having loads of fun and will bring your student home safely very soon. Next week will be preparing for tests; we have finally come to the end of most chapters/units and will assess what and how much we learned. Before tests, students will always have the opportunity to review the content in class with me and at home independently in order to properly prepare for the test. Test dates will be announced next week. Mr. Covert: We’re to the end of September! I hope that everyone is doing well as we wrap up this month. Our classes are going to get as far as we can with the limited time we have this week. 8th grade is finishing up the making of the Constitution, and then we’re going to start going over the Constitution itself. In 7th grade, we’re working over the Western United States. As for 6th grade, we’re working on a project to wrap up our Egypt unit. I pray that God blesses our school family, and watches over all the middle school as we travel to various destinations this week! Blessings on your week!
