KINDLES FOR SALE: The middle school has upgraded to ChromeBooks, so the Kindle Fire 7’s that were formerly used in the middle school are now for sale. They have 5 GB, come with cases, but no charging cords. 1 for $30, 2 for $50, 3 for $60. Stop by the office to take a look and/or purchase them. If you have a receipt from May 19- September 15 purchases (online or in the store), please get the receipt to the office, or email a picture to lutheransecretary@yahoo.com, as soon as possible. You can still claim it on your rewards, & Staples will give First Lutheran up to 5% back on each purchase to use on our October purchases. We currently have a $44.67 October credit thanks to parents like you who take the time to help us reduce our expenses!
FALL INDIVIDUAL PORTRAIT DAY is Thursday, October 3; information will be going home with students soon. There are incentives for ordering online including a free 8x8 book from Shutterfly, a free backpack, and more that will be detailed in the flyers and online. Keep watching your students’ backpack for more information. CHAPEL OFFERINGS: After only 4 chapels, we have collected $238.76 in Chapel Offerings to be used to sponsor Romaric and Bernadette this school year! Please remember to bring your chapel offerings on Wednesday’s so that we can continue to help these children! PRINCIPAL – Mr. Birnbaum: WOW! Today is already the midway point of this first quarter. Please let us know if you need help with your username or password. PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: We are learning all about the Letter R and its’ sound this week. We are doing an AWESOME job at learning to write our names; keep practicing! We will be going to the Quail Valley Farms Pumpkin Patch on Tuesday, October the 8th. Forms will be in backpacks today. Please fill out and return as soon as possible. Parents will be driving for this field trip. Have a great week! PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Gillespie: Terrific week in Pre-K 4! We are reviewing our vowels learned so far and learning the letter U, u. Their favorite has been letter A, a! They are doing great on shapes and numbers. No school on Friday, enjoy your 3 day weekend! PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: Happy Birthday Na'Via! The Pumpkin Patch field trip note and permission slip is in folders today. Please sign and return them with your money for each person going by Friday, September 27th.Thanks to some very generous donors, each child has a new book in their folder today. I hope you enjoy reading it with your child. Our Bible words this week are, Remember me, O Lord. Psalm 106:4 We don't have school on Friday. Have a Blessed Week! KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: We have been through a review of all the alphabet and sounds once and now we will do it again only slower taking one letter a week. This week we are working on the letter "Mm" and new handwriting sheets of the letter "Mm". This is different for us and some of us are finding it very hard. I am so proud of all your children because kindergarten is a challenge and the kids are working hard. If your child doesn't know all of their letters and sounds, please work at home daily on them along with your "Monday folder" homework. I would like to thank a mystery person for the gallon size freezer bags and the stickers that appeared on my desk last week. All of the children said they were not from them. Thank you very much! FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Memory verse for THURSDAY is Luke 17:3 - If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him. Field trip information and forms have come home today for Quail Valley Pumpkin Patch. Please return the permission form and your payment by Friday, September 27. Remember that we do not have school on Friday. Enjoy your 3 day weekend! SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: It's nearly autumn! I'm looking forward to cooler weather. Remember that second graders take AR tests daily. Several of the students have already reached their first quarter AR goal. Encourage your child by asking about their progress. THIRD GADE – Mrs. Steichen: Thank you everyone for dressing up and participating in International Dot Day. We had a ton of fun! This week: Remember it is a short week, with no school on Friday. Spelling: test on Thursday. Reading: We are starting a chapter book in class. There will be no Reading Test or paragraphs till we finish the book. Ask your child what book we are reading and what it is about. Math: Everyone did well on their test 2 on Monday. Look for another test next week. Science: We just finished up our chapter on cold-blooded animals. We are going to finish 2
sharing our projects, and then start our chapter on warm-blooded animals. We will do a similar type project as last time. Have a wonderful week! FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: Thank you the help to prep for Rose Hill and the great memories we made there! Return the washed clothes and lunch buckets (if not already done so) Thursday. Spelling, Memory, and Reading tests are tomorrow. Remember there is no school on Friday for the teacher’s conference. Please continue to look on Fast Direct for student grades and missing work – it is the best way to keep track. Missing work and work done carelessly can really make for surprising grades. Being organized & following directions are the keys! Please check school handbook for the school policy for late work; some students are very close to unwanted consequences! Mid quarters are sent out today, please return them Monday! Some are at the half way mark for the AR goals; some need some dedicated reading at night to make goals the kids helped to set. Nightly reading is difficult when AR books are left at school. Have a great day sharing God’s love. FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: Please remember that our field trip to Leonardo's is September 27; one week from Friday. The permission slip and money is due tomorrow, September 19. MIDDLE SCHOOL CONGRATULATIONS to our new Student Council Members… 6th: London Pettigrew, Marshall Blackstar, and Lauren Zimmerman 7th: Reed Jackson, John Davis, and Emma Bickford 8th: Jessica Goad, Noah Birnbaum, and Trinity Burden FLY: First Lutheran Youth meets on Wednesday nights from 5:30-7:00!!! We will meet in the Youth House @ 5:30 for dinner and devotions, and head over to the gym for games afterwards. Pickup will be in front of the gym at 7:00pm. TAILGATE PARTY: This year First Lutheran Church will be hosting tailgate parties before each home Wildcats football game. This will be held at the Youth House from 5:30-7:00. We’ll have food, games, and a prayer for the team before the football game begins at 7:00! Feel free to park in our school parking lot (boy scouts fundraiser) and walk over to the game from there! If you’re interested in hosting one of these nights, please contact Jennifer Heitman (jenniferheitman@cox.net). Mrs. Scott: Mid Quarter Reports are today! All papers for all math classes have been graded, input in the grade book and given back to the students. General 6th Grade Math is working with decimals. Advanced 6th Grade/General 7th Grade Math is working on graphs. Advanced 7th Grade Math is working on multiple steps of algebraic equations. 8th Grade Algebra has their Chapter 2 test on Thursday. No school on Friday. Enjoy the long weekend! 6th Grade Religion: Memory work due today was The Lord’s Prayer, The Third Petition and its meaning. Because the kids will be gone for Camp Lutherhoma next week, they will not have memory work due next week. The Lord’s Prayer, The Fourth Petition is due on 10/2/19. Have a blast at Camp Lutherhoma! Mrs. Hanson: It's midquarter! Can you believe we are halfway through the first quarter!? Please check grades TODAY. We have plenty of time to raise them or keep them up. 6th grade will be practicing collecting and organizing experiment data. 7th grade will be organizing minerals into their appropriate group. 8th grade will be testing for the presence of specific macromolecules in substances. 6th and 7th grade will have a quiz Thursday. No School Friday! Mr. Covert: We've hit the midway point of the first quarter! I hope everyone has gotten into a routine, and the year goes as smoothly as it already has! Classes are still going right along! 8th grade is going to be talking about the precursor to the Constitution, the Articles of Confederation. We'll talk about why they failed, before we go over the Constitution Article by Article, Amendment by Amendment. In 7th grade, we'll be starting to discuss our half of the United States, the parts that are on the western side of the Mississippi River. As for 6th grade, we're still working our way through Egypt, but we should be wrapping that up by the end of the week. 3

First of all, I'd like to congratulate our new student council members! 6th grade: Lauren Zimmerman, London Pettigrew, and Marshall Blackstar 7th grade: Reed Jackson, John Davis, and Emma Bickford 8th grade: Trinity Burden, Noah Birnbaum, and Jessica Goad The stucco members and I will be meeting and planning some fun activities not only for the middle school but also for the entire school! Check upcoming Chatters for more information! We're all about a week out from our field trips. 6th grade will be leaving Tuesday (24th) and returning Thursday (26th) from Camp Lutherhoma. I am sending home information on our trip with today's Chatter. 6th grade, we'll rule the middle school on Friday after our trip!! We will be eating pizza for lunch that day so please bring $2 per slice (however many slices you would like) and a drink of your choice (no energy drinks!) I will provide dessert. If you don't want to order pizza, please bring a lunch from home. 7th Grade, our theater trip is coming up on Monday, October 7.
