Covid Update - Thanks to an incredible donation, we received a Clorox Total 360 fogging machine with cleaning supplies and Lord willing we will continue to have safe, healthy environments. No School Friday so stay home and stay safe.

School will be closed this Friday, September 18; daycare will be open for those who signed up. If you didn’t sign up but now think you need daycare, please contact Ms. Heidi ASAP to see if there is space available.

1 QUARTER CHAPEL OFFERINGS: We need to collect an average of $35 a week to be able to continue our sponsorship of Rosa for this year, and we have only collected $40.60 so far. If you are able, please send monetary contributions with your student for chapel donations, so that we can continue to help meet Rosa’s educational, physical, and spiritual needs during the next year.

You may also donate items for school kits. Imagine having to choose between a meal or purchasing your child a notebook for school. Project Promise School Kits are sent to places where even the few required school supplies may be more than a family can afford. The list of needed items is attached to this Chatter. Note that while you may want to splurge on a blue fuzzy notebook or pen with 24 colors, they will only accept the exact items listed, so that everyone has the same thing, and the focus is on education. Thank you to all of you who have already donated to these worthy causes!

Fallapalooza - We are planning a BBQ cook-off, auction, and fall festival on Saturday - October 24 from 10 to 2. If you have small stuffed animals, trinkets, small toys, or candy that you would like to donate, we would greatly appreciate it at any time. Keep reading the future Chatters for more details.

We will be participating in See You At The Pole on Wednesday, September 23; however, due to spacing nd th everyone out we are asking for only 2 – 8 graders to participate. We will meet at 8:20 a.m. in front of the Administration Building.

S Y A T P

PRINCIPAL – Mr. Birnbaum: We have a lot of things being planned for our Fallapalooza on Saturday - October 24. We are spreading everything out to social distance and putting sanitation precautions in place to stay safe through this extravaganza.

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: This week in Preschool we are learning all about the Letter K and the sound it makes. We are also busy starting to learn how to write our names, how exciting! Have a great week!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: Happy Birthday Addie! Cooler temperatures have arrived. We do go outside for morning recess. Please send a jacket with your child's name in it every day. Mark your calendar for Tuesday, October 13th. ECE will be going to Rustic Roots Pumpkin Patch. They will have Covid safety in place, and our school will be the only school there that day. More information will come home soon. No school on Friday. Our Bible words this week are I, the Lord, am your Savior Isaiah 60:16 We are over halfway through our alphabet review. Does your child know the 1

letters in their name? This is a great place to start with letter recognition. Have a Blessed week, and a great long weekend!

KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: We do not have school this Friday. We have been working hard on reviewing our letters. This week we will have been through all of them one time. Next, we will go through them again only slower taking one letter a week. Please keep working hard on your child's "Monday Folder" words and books including the online books. Doing this work with your child will help them become great readers! Have a great long weekend!

FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Memory verse for Thursday is Acts 3:19 - Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out. It's hard to believe that we are half way through the 1st quarter already! Time goes fast when you are having fun! I am so thankful that we are all able to be in school together! Enjoy your 3 day weekend!

IF YOU ARE DRIVING ON A FIELD TRIP, PLEASE STOP BY THE OFFICE SO WE CAN MAKE A COPY OF YOUR DRIVERS LICENSE AND VEHICLE INSURANCE. THANK YOU! SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: We're rolling right along! Thanks for your help and support. I appreciate all of you filling our wishes. We are blessed by your kindness. I will listen to each child say the Lord's Prayer on Tuesday, September 22. Check your child's planner for a copy. PLEASE help us learn to tie shoes. Remember that our field trip money is due this Thursday and our trip is next Thursday. We're excited for a fun day! Does your child know his or her address? I'll be checking that this week. We may need a little help with that, too. Only 10 spelling words this week because we'll be enjoying our Friday off. (Test will be Thursday.) Praying that God continues to keep us healthy!

THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: Well, we made it half way through this first quarter! Please check your child's bag for their grades. If you have any question please let me know. One thing I have noticed is we are not liking to study for any of our tesst, we also like to rush! I know it is hard getting back into the swing of school from 5 months off, but I need your help at home. This week: Memory due Thursday is Genesis through Daniel. Next week we will finish up the Old Testament. A link to the song is on my bulletin board. Reading: We have a test tomorrow. Next week we will be starting an in class chapter book; this means no reading test or paragraphs. Math: Test tomorrow. We are getting closer to moving on to our subtraction facts. Test will be every five lessons. Science: We are moving on to warm blooded animals. Look for a test next week and the start of an animal project. We will do this project in class. Social Studies: we are working on landforms and will do an in class project with them next week. Homework: Some of us are getting in a bad habit of not turning in homework on time. If this keeps happening I will have to start giving detentions. Please check planners nightly. Water bottles: We are getting low on water bottles, thank you Mea and family for donation some to start the year. Please if you can dentate a case of water that would be wonderful. FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: Hope you are all having a great week seeing our Lord in the little parts of life. It is only through Him we do anything. Remember there is no school on Friday for the teacher’s conference. Please continue to use planners & look on Fast Direct for student grades & missing work – it is the best way to keep track. Missing work & work done carelessly can really make for surprising grades. Being organized & following directions are the keys to success! Please check school handbook for the school late work policy; some students get very close to unwanted consequences! Mid quarters are sent out today, please return them Monday. Spelling, Memory, & Reading tests are tomorrow. Some are at the half way mark for their AR goals; some need dedicated reading at night to make goals the kids helped to set. Nightly reading is difficult when AR books are left at school. I’m here for any questions. Have a great day sharing God’s love.

FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: The 5th graders have done an amazing job on some owl art we did last week. If you have time, step into our building to see some very creative owls. I just love children's art! And when all pieces are displayed together I think it looks good enough for any museum or art show. Remember...we do not have school this Friday. Memory due Thursday is the 4th Commandment and meaning. Blessings!

5TH GRADE SCIENCE: - 5th graders received their science book Monday. This is not only a textbook but a personal write-in workbook. We will be using this book regularly. We also got connected to our ThinkCentral accounts which is the digital interactive lessons that are directly related and created by the textbook authors. These digital lessons will be assigned regularly as well. They are different assignments than work that can be done in the book. These digital assignments will be posted in Google Classroom when they are assigned with specific instructions on how to complete them correctly.

MIDDLE SCHOOL Mrs. Scott: 5th Grade Math completed Lesson 14 today. We will review for Test #2 on Friday and will take our test either on Monday or Tuesday depending on how the review goes.

6R Math is working with variables, expressions, and equations.

6A/7R Math is working with adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing decimals.

7A Math is working with terms, like terms, coefficients, and constants.

8R Math is working through Chapter 1 and will have their Chapter 1 Test early next week.

8A Math took their Chapter 1 Test on Tuesday and began Chapter 2 today.

Mrs. Hanson: 6th grade is reviewing this week for their first test that will be on Thursday! WE ARE READY! But... that doesn't mean we don't need to study. The best ways to study are running vocab, asking your student to teach you something or explain a concept to you, going over the review that was done Tuesday.

7th grade knows their minerals, man! They had to identify 10 unknown minerals today. They had been studying these for 2 weeks now and even created their own study guides to help them practice for the quiz. Next week we will be discovering how these minerals were actually formed.

8th grade performed a DNA extraction today! Did you know you were able to take out the DNA in a cell and actually look at it?! Ask your 8th grader how much DNA is in a human cell.

All 3 grades have a fundraising opportunity for their individual Washington D.C. trips. We are selling Mrs. Fields Ms. Kester: It's Test day in History tomorrow for Grades 6, 7, and 8! The students have had the weekend, the last two days and in-class opportunities to study, so I am expecting great things from them. All student grades, including tomorrow's history test scores, will be on Fast Direct for their mid-quarter grade report by the end of the day Wednesday. My 5th graders are learning about the land and bodies of water this week.

Religion classes are breaking down the stories of Cain and Abel (Grade 6), The Curse of Canaan (Grade 7), and The First Disciples (Grade 8). I'm enjoying sharing with them some historical and cultural background to these exciting events in Christian history.

Our Article of the Week for Grades 7 and 8 generated much discussion about the possible lowering of the voting age. Check the article out in your child's Google Classroom! As for our weekly Scripture of the Week, it will be due next Friday since we are out of school this Friday. More later!

Mrs. Harbeson: Hello, Everyone! I hope you all are doing well! Today marks mid-quarter and grades have been sent out. I'm pleased with how most of our students are settling into school and into their work. There is a lot that's different in language this year, but the kids are doing a great job and are becoming experts on using GoogleClassroom. I do want to let everyone know that I have been giving a major grace period when it comes to handing in late work because of the change in structure for my class (ChromeBooks, GoogleClassroom, etc.) Starting tomorrow, I will begin following the parent handbook when it comes to late work. It's important for us all to learn how to hand assignments in on time and how to meet deadlines. That's all I have for now. I hope you enjoy your 3-day weekend! Blessings to you all!

Why School Supplies?

Each School Kit Contains:        

4 – spiral wide-ruled 70-page notebooks 1 – ruler (12 inch with centimeters) 1 – small manual pencil sharpener 1 – blunt-ended scissors 5 – unsharpened #2 pencils 5 – blue or black ball point pens (no clickers) 1 – box of 24 crayons 1 – 2½” rectangle pink eraser

To the children who receive School Kits, these supplies mean the difference between getting an education or not.

Public school is usually free, but in the places where LWR works, supplies like pens and paper may be more than many families can afford. And when parents can only afford to send one of their children to school, girls rarely get priority. Yet the education level of mothers has the biggest impact on child development.
