Mr. Birnbaum: We are starting the last quarter with a lot coming up. Class Pictures this Monday, Iowa Test of Basic Skills in less than two weeks, Freddy's Night Wed. April 20, Golf Tournament Fri. Apr. 22, Track Meet Fri. May 6, School Musical Friday the 13th, and most important - EASTER, the resurrection of our Savior.

CARDINAL CARE – Ms. Vap: Cardinal Care - Please be sure to let the office know if your child will be arriving after 9:30am so that we may order them a lunch.

All Ages - Parents, please be sure to check your child in and out on the Brightwheel app every day. There is a kiosk provided at the desk and/or a sign-in/out sheet for backup purposes. If you need any assistance, please let us know.

MUSIC  – Mrs. Brey: Middle school students are working on songs for church (7th and 8th grade) and they're preparing for our upcoming musical. Elementary students will be focusing on rhythms this week. Early childhood students are doing voice exploration and learning to sing with their whole voices.

Music performances in church: 4th/5th Grade: March 27th 7th/8th Grade: April 10th PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Daine: I hope everyone had a wonderful Spring Break! We are learning about Spring for the next several weeks. This week includes farm animals - mamas and their babies. We are reviewing the letters B (baby) F (farm) & A (animals), animal songs, and making a baby farm animal book. Have a blessed rest of the week!

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: Welcome back from Spring break, I hope everyone had a great week! This week we are reviewing the letters Y and Z. Have a great week!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: Happy Spring! Welcome back! I hope you had a wonderful spring break! Report cards are in folders today. Please sign and return to me and I will send you a copy to keep. If you have any questions let me know. Picture day is next Monday, more information is in folders. Our Bible words this week are, God says, "Call to Me and I will answer you." Jeremiah 33:3 We are on our last letter cluster the letters Vv,Jj,Qq and the number 19. Have a Blessed week!

KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: I hope everyone had a great spring break! We are working hard again on our new fourth 9 weeks words and reading. You will get your child's report card today so please look for it. Have a wonderful week!

FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: It's the 4th quarter and it's Spring! I can't believe how fast this year has gone!

Memory work for Friday is the 4th Commandment - Honor your father and your mother. Report cards were sent home today. You have 2 copies. Please sign on of the copies and return back to me by Friday and you may keep the other copy.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. We will have show and tell on Friday. The theme is to bring something that starts with the first letter of your name. Picture day is coming up next Monday, March 28. Class pictures and individual pictures will be taken. Happy birthday to Knox yesterday, March 22!

SECOND GRADE – Ms. Felton: I hope you had a refreshing Spring Break! 3rd quarter report cards are coming home with the Chatter today, so please sign and return that to me by this Friday. If you’d like to meet, please message me or write a note on the report card when you return it. March Book Madness has begun! We are reading some newly published books from 2021-2022 and voting for our favorites to celebrate March as Reading Month! In class, AR goals are set for the 4th quarter - all 3rd quarter goals were made! Social Studies: culture unit where we will learn about and research other cultures. Science: week-long unit on how to make healthy choices and take care of our body. Reading: nonfiction text features test next Tuesday. Grammar: review common and proper nouns, verbs, adjectives, next week add -ly adverbs with a test next Thursday. Math: time to 5 minutes and subtraction within 20. Memory: next week due Thursday will be the first half of the books of the New Testament (Matthew through 2 Thessalonians).

THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: How was everyone's Spring Break? We are off and running on this last quarter of the year. WE got this!! I know that schedules are getting busy again with sports and all the extras. Please make sure homework is done every night. We do not want to start this quarter off on the wrong foot. This week: Test: Spelling, Reading, and Language Test on Friday. Fact Quiz next Wednesday (6X). Report Cards: Report cards came home today, please sign them and get them back to me. Please let me know if you have any questions or need to meet to discuss anything. A.R. Goals have been reset. Please ask your child what their new goal is. We are working our way through March Book Madness, some of these are A.R. books, so this will help with reaching our goals. ITBS: Testing week will be arriving soon. You will be seeing some new homework, please help your child with these. We will be working on some testing strategies in class to help ease the nervous. Please let me know if you have any questions on the test coming up. Have a wonderful week!

FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: We are back in school for the 4th quarter! We ARE here together to finish up a strong 4th grade year to be prepared for the future with Christ in ALL Things! I am so thankful that we get to focus on Jesus’ love for us on the cross as HE gave the ultimate sacrifice so we may follow Him. It is only through this love that we are able to love each other. Continue to read for AR. Many are working very hard to making their AR goal. It is a brand new quarter, and a new fresh start for grades. Continue to use Fast Direct to keep track of grades from the beginning.

Our West State & Cap test is on the 31st. School pictures are on the 28th, smile pretty! Blessings as we stay warm!

5th GRADE RELIGION – Mrs. Brey: 5th grade Religion - As we focus on the season of lent, students are thinking about what would have happened if Jesus hadn't died for us. We're reflecting on our actions and spending time in prayer.

We're being reminded that we are so loved by God! Memory work is a long one this week: Psalm 23. This will be due on Friday, March 25th. Students will have a word bank to use, or if they're feeling up to it, they may say it aloud.

5th Grade & Middle School 6th – 8th MATH – Mr. McKinley: 6th and 7th we are finishing up using the slope to graph lines and moving into writing and solving proportions.

7th and 8th we are continuing to work with graphing linear equations using the slope and x and y intercepts.

SCIENCE – Mrs. Porter-Cain: Hello Cardinals! Welcome to 4th Quarter! The year is flying by! I hope everyone enjoyed their spring breaks! I had a blast! We took the Varsity girls and boys to Ft Wayne Indiana to compete in the LBAA tournament! It was an awesome experience watching these kids compete at the National level! Baylee Stewart was selected to the Girls All Tournament Team! Let’s Go Baylee!!

5th Science- We are working our way through Physical Science Matters!

6th Science- We are going to be doing a different experiment EVERY WEEK starting next week! We are excited to put what we have learned to work!

7th Grade Science- We will be studying minerals, rocks, fossil fuels! Please remember to send your child’s field trip form back!

8th Grade Science- we are still working on bacteria and virus topics! We will be working towards dissecting!

ALL PE CLASSES- We will be working on track meet training for our upcoming track meet in May! Athletics- Track Practice starts THURSDAY! 5th- 8th graders who are going to run track must attend practices!

Basketball and Cheer banquet will be April 14th!

LANGUAGE – Ms. Kester: We're roaring back from Spring Break with parts of speech on the brain - prepositions, articles, conjunctions, adverbs, etc. English classes are using these parts to gain a better understanding of the language, craft skilled sentences, and communicate more effectively. It's the most foundational and exciting thing about the subject!

Saul, David, and Goliath's story is the center of attention in Religion. Students were treated to an animated reading, voices and all, of 1 Samuel 17-19. Ask them about the story! We will bring it even more to life with some activities as well as student discussions and video. Their memory work is 1 Samuel 17:36-37 and is due April 1. In the meantime, encourage your child to take down some giants of their own this week!

SOCIAL STUDIES – Mr. Brey: 5th Grade: We are working on the War of 1812. We are working on a partner project that will take us hopefully a week to complete.

6th Grade: Students are reviewing earlier state standards we covered early in the year. We should be able to get through the first unit shortly.

7th Grade: We are focusing on mental mapping and relearning concepts like scale and distance.

8th Grade: We are learning about WWI and the causes of it. We are starting with the "Scramble for Africa" and will go up to the Treaty of Versailles.

April 4-8, is ITBS Testing Week for Grades 2-8 in the mornings!

What can you do to help your student be ready for testing week? Plenty!  Make sure your student has a healthy breakfast! It’s hard to do your best thinking when your tummy is growling! Remember, we offer nutritious breakfasts in the cafeteria each morning between 7:45 – 8:05 a.m. FOR FREE THIS YEAR!  Please avoid any doctor/dentist/etc. appointments during the morning hours. It is a tremendous distraction to your student, as well as the others in the class, to have students pulled out during the middle of a test.  They should have 5 sharpened pencils with an eraser (not mechanical).  Testing typically starts at 8:30 a.m. sharp, so please be sure your student is on time. A tardy student is a distraction to a whole class of testing students; a great way to avoid this, would be to be on time! As a reminder, classroom doors open at 8:10 a.m. each morning, and school begins/attendance is taken at 8:20 a.m. Students who arrive tardy will be admitted to their classrooms AFTER the current test is finished.

Long story short: eat a healthy breakfast, be on time, and don’t check out early! Thanks for your cooperation!
