HOUSE FIRE…HELP! Kendra Mayer is a former FLS parent, School Board Member, and current church member. Her brother’s house recently burned and the family was left with nothing. The community has already blessed them with clothes, but now her brother is tasked with fixing their house and they need supplies. Things like plywood, boards, nails, screws, sheet rock, tools, etc. If you are willing and able, please consider donating these items/gift cards to purchase them to Lowes/Brandts/Hughes or local restaurants, and we will pass your donations on to them. Obviously, if you are donating sheet rock/plywood/boards, please contact the office and we’ll get you a phone number to get in contact with the family directly…please don’t bring that to my office! Thank you all in advance for helping this father and his daughter get back in their house!

The SCHATTE MEMORIAL COOKOFF WILL BE HELD MAY 7TH! We are looking for volunteers for that day to help with tickets, serving, setup, cleanup, or any capacity you’re willing to serve! Contact Jennifer Heitman for more info at flcsnextgen@gmail.com.

CARDINAL CARE – Ms. Vap: ALL AGES - If you are needing childcare during Spring Break or the afternoon of March 11th when school releases at 11:20 am, please sign up in the lobby as soon as possible.

DAYCARE PARENTS - Please be sure to contact the office prior to 9:30 am if you will be bringing your child in later. We order lunches and make adjustments to staff by 9:30 am daily.

If you know someone interested in FLC&S, have them stop by our Open House on Monday, March 7 from 3:30 – 5:15 p.m.. If they have a student in 1st – 6th grades and they list you on the enrollment sheet as referring them, you will receive a $200 tuition credit next January, if they remain enrolled the whole first semester! MUSIC  – Mrs. Brey: Preschool through fourth grade are learning our "Hello, There!" song. They are also getting to use instruments to keep a steady beat and tap out different rhythms. Fifth grade is focusing on ostinatos and using instruments to play those. Middle school music students are wrapping up our unit on John Williams with a paper that is due on Thursday, March 3rd.

Upcoming church performances: 4th/5th grade on March 27 at 9am. 7th/8th grade on April 10 at 9am.

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Daine: Looks like Spring is just around the corner! We will be learning about "Spring things" in class. We will also continue working on manners, scissor skills, letter recognition, number recognition, number sets, and pre-writing skills. Have a blessed rest of the week!

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: We are in to March, can you believe it?! Soon we will start seeing green grass and green trees! This week we are learning all about the letters Y and Z. We are also going over all the things we have been learning this year. It has been a busy year so far! Have a great week!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: Happy Birthday Kail! Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! Tomorrow is crazy sock/mustache day and Friday is red and blue day. Show and Tell is tomorrow! Book order is due to me or online by Friday. Please return all distance learning work by Friday. February Book It calendars are also due by Friday. Our Bible words this week are, Jesus said, "Learn from Me." Matthew 11:29 We are doing all things Dr. Seuss this week! Ask your child about all of the fun learning this week. Have a Blessed week!

KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: What a fun week! Happy birthday Dr. Seuss! This Friday, March 4th will be show and tell day. Please bring something that will fit in your backpack. I think spring is in the air, the kids are loving it outside! Next week is "Lutheran Schools' Week" which will be fun too. Just a reminder that the 14th to the 18th is spring break and no school. Have a marvelous week!

FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Welcome March and hopefully some much warmer weather! Memory for Friday is the 2nd Commandment - You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God. Get your order forms and payments for our Class Book in by Friday please! If you have not done so yet, turn in the February reading logs for your Pizza Hut Certificate. March is the last month for the Book-It Program. We will have show and tell on Friday since we missed it last Friday. The theme is to bring something that represents your favorite color. We are having fun with Dr. Seuss Week and we look forward to celebrating next week for our Lutheran Schools Week! Happy birthday to Lola on Thursday!

SECOND GRADE – Ms. Felton: March is here and it is “Reading Month.” It serves as a good reminder of the importance of reading at every age, plus that most of our class is still working to make their AR goals for this quarter.

Congratulations to Hayes, Isabella, Trystan, and Aspyn for making their goals already! Since the 3rd quarter ends in a week, be checking in on your child’s progress and grades - any missing work will be 0’s as of this Friday. Thank you to everyone who brought in food pantry donations last week and this week. Upcoming in class, March 7 is when Social Studies projects are due. Our habitat unit will conclude right before spring break with an in-class project. 9th Commandment and Meaning is next Thursday’s memory. We will not have a spelling test next week - we will use the week to do some review. If you’d like to schedule a parent-teacher conference before or after Spring Break for the 3rd quarter, please let me know.

THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: This weather is amazing! Please still send a light jacket for the morning recesses.

Also, remember to write your child's name in their jackets so we can return them if they are left on the playground. This week and next: We are wrapping things up these next two weeks. Spelling Test on Friday. No spelling ‘till after Spring break. Math: Test next Tuesday, and a 4X fact quiz next Wednesday. We will pick up with math lessons and facts after break. Reading: Finishing Ivan next week. Look for details on a movie day for this book. Social Studies: Test today and a in-class president project due before the break. A.R. Remember next week is the final week. Everyone is getting so close!

Please ask your child where they are point wise. Have a great week and enjoy the weather!

FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: It is Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. I am so thankful that we get to focus on Jesus’ love for us on the cross as He gave the ultimate sacrifice so we may follow Him. It is only through this love that we are able to live with each other. Praise God for the beautiful days He has given us! Thank you to those that have donated water for the classroom. We have a bottle filler down the hall to refill those bottles! I am AMAZED at how eagerly the kids are to say memory this week. It is truly a testament to our Lutheran School system with chapel being in –2–

church to worship. Make sure that we are reading for our longer AR goal. Daily reading makes it easier. As the quarter continues (ONLY 9 days left, OH MY), help the kids to stay on top of academics. Planners & Fast Direct are great tools to help. Our education to be strong fourth graders to prepare to be fifth graders is not over yet. I am here for any conversations and questions. Have a great week worshiping and praising our Lord!

5th GRADE RELIGION – Mrs. Brey: As we remember Ash Wednesday, we remember "from dust we are, and to dust we will return." We thank our heavenly Father for sending Jesus to die for our sins and to rise again! Please remember that we are all Easter people and living for Him. We will have memory work due on Thursday, March 10 th.

This verse will be Joshua 1:9.

5th Grade & Middle School 6th – 8th MATH – Mr. McKinley: 6th and 7th grade finished chapter 7 and will test this week. We will start chapter 8 and learn about ratios and proportions.

7th and 8th will test on chapter 7 and start chapter 8 where we get into linear functions.

SCIENCE – Mrs. Porter-Cain: Hello March! Where has the year gone?

5th Grade- today they are testing on substances and compounds! We will be moving on to Units of Measurement!

6th Grade- today they are testing on the periodic table! We will be moving on to Chemical reactions!

7th Grade- today they are testing on Volcanoes! We will soon be moving into rocks and minerals- be watching for field trip info to come home soon!

8th Grade- today they are testing on Genetic Mutations and Bio-Chemistry! Next week we will be looking at different forms of cells under the microscope and doing a mini project! At some point after spring break we will be dissecting!

PLEASE HELP YOUR STUDENTS STAY ON TOP OF THEIR SCHOOL WORK! AS THE QUARTER IS NEARING THE END, MISSING ASSIGNMENTS WILL HURT THEIR GRADES!!

Health Science- We have been learning some basics to CPR. PE- the kids have been jogging and sprinting and we will soon start jumping in preparation for our FLS track meet!

Basketball- both teams have been invited to Ft Wayne Indiana to compete in the Lutheran National Basketball Tournament over spring break. The kids have been working hard to raise money for their trips- if you would like to help them, let me know! This is a great honor and will be an amazing experience for your Cardinals and Lady Cardinals!

TRACK!

If your child is wanting to run track, please contact me ASAP! I encourage ALL basketball players to run and compete in their off season!

LANGUAGE – Ms. Kester: In English classes, fifth graders are learning about nouns, sixth graders are working on compound diagramming, and seventh and eighth graders are working on mastering semicolons and colons. Also, we've kicked off a new topic in Religion; students are diving into the flood in Genesis. While we backstroke our way through, we are also looking forward to our new books for Literature. Fifth and sixth graders received theirs last week, and seventh and eighth graders receive theirs tomorrow. Happy reading!

SOCIAL STUDIES – Mr. Brey: 5th Grade: We are almost done with our state standards! Students will test over colonization next week. After that units will be based on student interests and what the book covers.

6th Grade: We are diving deep into South America. Students did great on their map quiz, and now are looking into ancient civilizations. They are currently working on a group project and will have a quiz next week on the ancient civilizations they cover.

7th Grade: Students will be giving a group presentation on WWII. Different groups cover different stages of the war. After this, we will go back to geography.

8th Grade: Students are taking their final next week. Students will have up to three attempts. I will take the LAST attempt as their grade. This will cover all information we have learned this year. All students have access to the study guide, which is the state standards link on google classroom.

Lutheran Schools’ Week Dress Up Days!

Lutheran Schools’ Week is a week-long celebration of Lutheran education and celebrating all of the schools that are working to raise the next generation of faithful Christian disciples. In this, we thank God for the opportunity to provide excellent academic preparation for our children and the opportunity to share Jesus’ amazing love with students and their families.
