FIRST LUTHERAN SCHOOL - PONCA CITY, OK 2020-2021 FEES We praise God for you partnering with us. Our goal is to provide quality Christian education with the best use of our God given talents and resources. Total tuition and enrollment fees provide a little over 55% of the cost of our school operations. The balance is made up from a generous subsidy from First Lutheran Church, individual/business donations, and active parent and family involvement. (If enrollment is an economic hardship, there are scholarship opportunities. Ask for an application.) We also encourage family involvement to reduce costs. High enrollment helps keep the school vibrant and active while spreading the costs over more families. Encourage others to join our school or to consider a tax deductible donation so that others can benefit from a quality, Christian education. 1. A payment plan is available with 1/3 due immediately. A portion of the enrollment fee is refundable when paid in full and cancellation is necessary: 60% if requested before June 1; 40% from June 1 to August 1. **No refunds on partial payments or after August 1** To reserve a place, enrollment fee must be paid in full by April 30. 2. TUITION DISCOUNTS and PAYMENT PLAN OPTIONS We have four payment plans with multiple discounts: 9 Month Payment Plan; the 12 Month Plan (that must be started by June 15); the 2 and 1 Payment Plans that offer larger discounts. Family Plan: Families with two or more children are offered reduced rates for the second or more children. The oldest child is considered the "first child." (See Extensive Family Plan Fee & Discounts on back.) ALL payments are due by the 16th of every month with a $10 Late Fee if not paid in full. Oklahoma Opportunity Scholarship Funds available (see www.osfkids.org for more information)
3. CHILD CARE Child Care is available at the following rates when needed before and after the school day. Child Care is billed by the week and is due by the following Thursday. Pre-payment credit is preferred. DAILY RATES Before School (7:00 – 8:15) After School (3:15 – 5:30) Spring Break, Holidays, Summer Care, etc.

Summer child care requires a $200 deposit for one child ($100 more for each additional child). Half is nonrefundable and the second half is credit on the final bill. 4. MEAL PLANS Breakfast is served from 7:50-8:05 for $2.25 ($2.50=Adults). Lunch is $3.25 ($4.00=Adults). Extra Milk is 50 cents. Applications are available in the office for the National School Lunch Program (free and reduced price meals). This institution is an equal opportunity provider. 5. BAND A beginners and advanced bands are offered a couple of days a week for students in 5th to 8th grade. To encourage continuity, rates are non-refundable but are cheaper for an entire semester. Non-Refundable: $50 a month ($40 for 2nd child) for 9 months or $200 twice a yr ($150 for 2nd) due by Aug. 31 & again by Jan. 31. Please contact Principal Birnbaum if you need an instrument or financial assistance to participate in the band program. We do not want this to be a hindrance for band participation.
6. REFERRAL CREDIT $200 CREDIT to ANY current school family for each new family to our school that enrolls in grades 1 – 6 that states on their application that they were referred to us by that family. The current school family will receive the $200 credit in January for each of those new families with students in 1st – 6th grade that remain enrolled through the first semester.

VALENTINE’S DELIVERIES: To minimize disruptions to the classroom, Valentine flower/candy/balloons sent to the school will be delivered to the classrooms between 2:00-2:30 in time for class parties. If you are having something delivered for a student in the Early Childhood Building, please give the delivery company directions on where/how to deliver it to the daycare offices (on Albany between 3rd & 4th Street). Thank you! DAYCARE, FEBRUARY 14 AND 17: School will be closed February 14 for Curriculum Writing and February 17 for President’s Day. Daycare will be open for those who signed up. CHURCH/SUNDAY SCHOOL ATTENDANCE CONTEST WINNERS: Congratulations to 7th Grade for Best Church Attendance in the 1st Semester, and 8th Grade for the best Church AND Sunday School attendance, combined. You have won a pizza party courtesy of Martin, Jean, and Jackson on February 13th! Way to show your dedication to your faith! Valentine Salad Luncheon: The First Lutheran Women’s Guild will be holding their long awaited and ever so delicious annual Valentine Salad Luncheon on Friday, February 14th – Valentine’s Day – featuring their warm and mouthwatering chicken salad, as well as many other treats. Tickets are $8.00 for adults and $3 for 3 and under, and are available in the school office (bring exact change or check) and at the door. Carryouts will be available. DINNER-ENTERTAINMENT AND AUCTION HERE on Friday, April 3 from 5:30 to 8:00. Paul Schatte BBQ, baked potatoes, BBQ beans, drink, and dessert for $10 prepaid in advance only ($15 at the door). SCHOOL RE-EVALUATION: Every five years we go thru a thorough self-evaluation of our entire school program and then a visiting team of six professionals will come in October to verify our findings. SCHOOL OFFICE—TAX STATEMENTS: If you would like a printout of your payments to First Lutheran during 2017 for tax purposes, you can print them off by logging into your FastDirect account, click on the “finances” button on the top, click on “tax report” on the left-hand side, then choose the year you want and click on “Tax Year Printout”. It will bring up a page to print with your payments to First Lutheran categorized and totaled, and it will have our Federal Tax I.D. number on the top. Alternatively, you can request a tax statement from the office by calling 580-762-9950 or sending a FastDirect email to Connie Erickson. This includes school-related expenses only; summer daycare statements must be requested from daycare by sending a FastDirect email to Heidi Daley or calling daycare at 580-762-1124. Not all payments to FLS are tax deductible, and you should contact a tax advisor to find out what can be written off, and what cannot. PRINCIPAL – Mr. Birnbaum: Today is MID-QUARTER for the third time this year. We are almost done and making plans for next year. We praise God for His blessings on this new year. COACH AMANDA: We start the 6th grade tournament this week, Wednesday – Saturday evening. Come out and watch some great basketball! PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Gillespie & Mrs. Kelly: Happy cold wintery Wednesday! Please remember to have your child wear a warm coat/gloves. This Friday, Feb 7th is Show and Tell! Remember it must fit in their backpack. On Thursday Feb 13th is our Valentine's Day party. Also on Feb 23rd, at 9 am the PreK classes will be singing in church. KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: We will have our Valentine party on Thursday, Feb. 13th (at 2:30 pm) because we don't have school on the 14th and the 17th. The children can start to bring their valentine cards on Monday Feb. 10th. This week we are talking about Groundhog's Day and our regular show and tell will be this Friday the 7th. This weather is crazy! Please make sure your child has a warm coat on cold days. We will go outside. Have a sensational week! FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Memory verse for Friday is Philippians 4:13 - I can do everything through Him who gives me strength. Book orders were went home last week. These are due online or to me with a check by tomorrow (6th). We will have our Valentine's Party on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 2:15. The children may bring Valentine cards to share. This school year is zipping along. We continue to make fine progress in second grade. We're beginning to work more independently! Memory work is going great. This week we started our essay projects for Black History Month! Ask your student who they’re researching! FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: We have a big creative project going on right now – Valentine’s box (due next Thurs). I hear great ideas for our Valentine’s Day Box Contest. Remember to keep your real idea a secret, so on Valentine’s Day we will not know the real creator of the box until it is time (please no names on the boxes). Book orders that have been sent home are due the 10th. Keep reading to make AR & Book IT goals. We are half-way though through the quarter. The quarter year is winding down very quickly. We are being 5th graders in training. This is a challenge some are really stepping up to the plate for, and others need more guidance. Continue our great effort to love those with heart troubles. I am beyond amazed what we are doing so far! Keep up the great work to get the word out! Blessing as we focus on Christ. FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: We had a really good week last week, with very few people having late work. I'm in the process of setting up our next field trip. It will be to Exploration Place and Wichita Ice-skating Center in Wichita. I have submitted February 21 on-line, so I'll let you know as soon as I finalize with both places. Fifth graders in the past have really enjoyed this trip. The students always want to stay longer at both places. If parents are able to go you are certainly welcome to spend extra time with your child at either place. Blessings! WINTERJAM: Join us on Saturday, Feb 29th, for the WinterJam tour! All youth 6th-12th grade are invited to join us for this evening of Christian music and fellowship! The cost is $15 per person, this covers entry to the concert. Dinner will be provided. We will leave First Lutheran at 2:00 and return around midnight. Thanks to our volunteer drivers, we have 20 seats available, but they’re filling up fast! If you’re interested in attending (or driving), please see Jennifer Heitman for more details. Due to the limited number of seats available, seats will NOT be reserved until permission slips and fees have been turned in. This will be a first come, first serve, basis. Mrs. Scott: General 6th Grade Math is working with shapes and finding angles. Advanced 6th Grade/General 7th Grade is working on percentages of discounts and tax. Advanced 7th Grade is working with slope. 8th Grade Algebra has finished their Chapter 6 Retake and has started on Chapter 7 with Linear Systems by Graphing. Advanced Algebra is working on Division Properties of Exponents. 6th Grade Religion: Memory work due today was the Fourth Commandment and its meaning. Memory work due on 2/11 is the Fifth Commandment and its meaning. Mrs. Hanson: 6th grade tested over Ch. 3 states of matter, changes of state, and gas laws today, so we will be moving on to elements, compounds, and mixtures. Vocab will be due by the end of the week. 7th grade is learning about the structure of earth, plate tectonics, and geological deformations. We will have a vocab quiz on 4C vocab Friday. 8th grade has been working on genius hour projects but has also started a chapter on vertebrates. We will have a vocab quiz Friday. Valentine trip permission slips and money are due TOMORROW. 7th and 8th grade fundraising bag sales has begun, remember to reach out to customers who can shop online, via text, or order directly from students. Email, text, post, etc to get the word out! Orders and money are due Wednesday, Feb. 19. Mr. Covert: We’ve made it to February! I hope everyone is doing their absolute best to stay healthy with bugs still floating around out there. Classes are moving right along at a nice pace. In 8th grade, we’re looking at the changes that our country saw in the late 1880’s and onward thanks to an influx of immigrants that I imagine many of us can trace our family lines back to. 7th grade is wrapping up our chapter on Southeast Asia this week, and then we’ll move into South Asia. As for 6th grade, we’ll be finishing up our lesson on the rise of Islam before skipping a few chapters and getting into the Middle Ages. We have outside recess every day, and some days are VERY cold. Please send a jacket with your student to school EVERY DAY! Also, please make sure their name is in the jacket. They will have a much more enjoyable recess period if they are warm, and so will the staff who is supervising them!
