VALENTINE’S DELIVERIES: To minimize disruptions to the classroom, Valentine flower/candy/balloons sent to the school will be delivered to the classrooms between 2:00-2:30 in time for class parties.

If you are having something delivered for a student in the Early Childhood Building, please give the delivery company directions on where/how to deliver it to the daycare offices (on Albany between 3rd & 4th Street). Thank you!

SIGNING DAY/OPEN HOUSE: We invite you to attend our signing day on Monday, March 9 from 3:30 to 5:30. IF you bring a new family on that date and they enroll in our 1st-6th grade in the next six months, you will get a $50 Walmart Card in an addition to the $200 credit on your tuition in January if they remain enrolled through the fall semester.

DAYCARE, FEBRUARY 14 AND 17: School will be closed February 14 for Curriculum Writing and February 17 for President’s Day. Daycare wll be open for those who signed up. If you need daycare either of those days and have not signed up, please see Ms. Heidi immediately or leave her a message at 580-762-1124.

Valentine Salad Luncheon: First Lutheran Church will be holding their long awaited and ever so delicious annual Valentine Salad Luncheon THIS Friday, February 14th – Valentine’s Day – featuring their warm and mouthwatering chicken salad, as well as many other treats. Tickets are $8.00 for adults and $3 for 3 and under, and are available in the school office or at the door. Carryouts will be available.

DINNER-ENTERTAINMENT AND AUCTION HERE on Friday, April 3 from 5:30 to 8:00. Paul Schatte BBQ, baked potatoes, BBQ beans, drink, and dessert for $10 prepaid in advance only ($15 at the door).

SCHOOL OFFICE NEEDS: We are running short on children’s chewable ibuprofen and acetaminophen, large (≥2 x 4) bandaids for skinned knees, and grainola bars for those who are regretting skipping breakfast. If you are at the store and are willing to purchase and send a sealed bottle/box of any of these supplies to the office, we would appreciate it! We have enough adult ibuprofen and acetaminophen for the older kids to get us through the year. THANK YOU! Come see First Lutheran Cardinals in THE ARISTOCATS at the Poncan Theatre this weekend! Our own stars in the show are Khloe & Reese Andrews, Porter Hunt, Karsyn Hunter, & Kylie Kozarevich; In addition, Abby Garrison will be a stage manager. The showings are Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 and Sunday matinee at 2:00; admission is $12.

USED METRO CARDS: If you have visited Washington D.C. and have money left on your MetroCard, our 8th Grade class would love to use up your remaining balance on their trip this spring. If you would be willing to donate it to them, please bring your card(s) to Connie in the office, or leave them in the black mailbox in front of her office (we check it daily). THANK YOU! FLS STUDENTS IN K8 ARE PARTICIPATING IN THE KIDS HEART CHALLENGE: Way to go students collecting money for the Kids Heart Challenge! You all have collected over $800 so far. Keep up the good work and continue to add points for the Olympics in a few weeks. Cash donations need to come in envelopes, and will be due in March. Big prizes will come after Spring Break. NOC’S PRESENTATION “ALL SHOOK UP” will be presented February 20-22, at 7:30 pm and Sunday the 23rd at 2 pm in the Kinzer Performing Arts Center in Tonkawa. Admission is free to this Spring 2020 Musical Comedy, featuring an All New Elvis story featuring Elvis hits. Come watch our very own Kylie Flowers in this entertaining, free, comedy!

BEREAVEMENT FELLOWSHIP: Grief support groups offer support and education by helping survivors cope with their emotions, new roles in life, and plans for the future. SCHOOL RE-EVALUATION: Every five years we go thru a thorough self-evaluation of our entire school program and then a visiting team of six professionals will come in October to verify our findings. If you would like to help serve on this process, please contact Principal Birnbaum.

SPIRIT GEAR: Have you seen the really cool First Lutheran ball caps? First Lutheran Cheerleaders have a few extra FLS Cardinals hats for sale for $20 each (limited sizes and quantities). To see them up close & in person, or to purchase a couple, stop by the school office or contact Jennifer Heitman via FastDirect. All proceeds go directly to the FLS Cheerleading fund.

TAX WRITE-OFF: Businesses (and individuals) can get a BIG state and federal tax write off by contributing to the Oklahoma Scholarship Fund. Check it out at www.osfkids.org. Please pick us and we can help A LOT of kids!!!

SCHOOL OFFICE—TAX STATEMENTS: If you would like a printout of your payments to First Lutheran during 2017 for tax purposes, you can print them off by logging into your FastDirect account, click on the “finances” button on the top, click on “tax report” on the left-hand side, then choose the year you want and click on “Tax Year Printout”. It will bring up a page to print with your payments to First Lutheran categorized and totaled, and it will have our Federal Tax I.D. number on the top.

Alternatively, you can request a tax statement from the office by calling 580-762-9950 or sending a FastDirect email to Connie Erickson. This includes school-related expenses only; summer daycare statements must be requested from daycare by sending a FastDirect email to Heidi Daley or calling daycare at 580-762-1124. Not all payments to FLS are tax deductible, and you should contact a tax advisor to find out what can be written off, and what cannot.

SNOW DAY NOTIFICATION: In the event that school may be cancelled due to inclement weather, we follow Ponca City Public Schools schedule FOR WEATHER-RELATED CANCELLATIONS ONLY. Listen to your radio during the cancellation announcements, and if Ponca City Schools are cancelled, First Lutheran will be out, also; however, there will NOT be a separate announcement for First Lutheran. This applies ONLY to weatherrelated cancellations; at all other times, follow the First Lutheran School Calendar. If you need a new calendar, go to www.fastdir.com/flcspc, click on the “links” tab on the left, and then click on “2017-2018 Calendar”, or stop by the school office for a new one.

PRINCIPAL – Mr. Birnbaum: Several of you have already brought in your Re-Enrollment papers. If you enroll by the end of February, you will get one entry into a drawing for a $25 Gift Card for each 1/3 of the enrollment fee that you pay by the date of the drawing. (An enrollment fee paid in full = 3 entries for the drawing.) Watch the Chatter on March 4th to see if you won!

PRE-SCHOOL & PRE-K SINGING IN CHURCH – Mrs. Schelp: Mrs. Colvin’s, Mrs. Gillespie’s, and Mrs. Kelley’s classes will be singing at First Lutheran Church’s worship service on Sunday, February 23 at 9:00am (please have your children in the Church foyer by 8:50).

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Gillespie: Happy Wednesday! We have had a busy week of learning and fun crafts!

This week is the letter V, v and W, w. We are ready for our Valentine's Day party on Thursday, the 13 th at 2:30. Please send your valentines in the morning if you have not already. Enjoy Friday and Monday, No School!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: Thank you for all the love and prayers during my time in the hospital and recovery! I'm so glad to be back! Thank you to Ms. Karen for taking care of things at school for me! Our Valentine party is tomorrow at 2:30. We don't have school on Friday and Monday. Picture day is February 20th; you must order and pay for the class picture on or before picture day. PS and PK will be singing in chapel on February 19th and in church on Sunday, February 23rd. Please plan to join us for chapel and church. Our Bible words this week are, We love because He first loved us. 1 John 4:19 We are learning the letters Gg,Ww,Xx and the number 14. Have a Blessed Week!

KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: You can bring your valentines to school anytime. We have 15 students and please just write from (your child's name). Do not address the valentines to specific students. Our party will be on Thursday the 13th at 2:30 pm. and everyone is welcome. We do not have school on Friday the 14th and Monday the 17th. Have a wonderful week and happy valentines!

FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: We will be working on our memory verse of Galations 5:22-23 for the next 2 weeks. We are singing the Fruit of the Spirit song to help us learn the words. Our valentine party is tomorrow around 2:20. We have a pep rally in the gym at 2:00 before our party. If your child has not brought their valentine cards yet, they can bring them in the morning. Parents are welcome to join us. Picture order forms may be turned in to me anytime between now and the morning of Feb. 20. Enjoy your 4 day weekend!

SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: Happy Valentine's Day! Our bags are ready and waiting to receive cards from our friends. Remember that I'd like the children to address cards to each classmate. We're looking forward to our party on Thursday afternoon. You're invited to join us. We're also very excited to have a four day weekend. Enjoy your free Friday and Monday! If you're traveling, be safe! Memory work for Thursday is 6th Commandment and meaning. Blessings!

THIRD GRADE – Coach Amanda (f/Mrs. Steichen): Remember school is out this Friday and next Monday; see you Tuesday! Class pictures will be taken next Thursday (2/20). You must pre-order these if you want one!

FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: We have a big creative project going on right now – Valentine’s box (due TOMORROW). I heard great ideas for our Valentine’s Day Box Contest. Remember to keep your real idea a secret, so on party day we will not know the real creator of the box until it is time (please no names on the boxes). Keep reading to make AR & Book IT goals. The year is winding down very quickly. We are being 5th graders in training. This is a challenge that some are really stepping up to the plate for, and others need more guidance. Continue our great effort to love those with heart troubles. I am beyond amazed what we are doing so far! Keep up the great work to get the word out!

West region test is around the bend. Blessing as we focus on Christ’s love.

FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: Thank you to all that celebrated my birthday with me yesterday. The kids were wonderful, and we had a very enjoyable day together. I am truly blessed! Field trip permission slips went home (or should have!) on Monday. Those are due back with the money no later than Friday, February 21. Blessings!

FIFTH GRADE SCIENCE – Mrs. Hanson: 5th grade is wrapping up Unit 2 by reviewing Tuesday and will test on Thursday.

MIDDLE SCHOOL Middle School Dance When: Friday, February, 21 Where: FLS Gym Time: 7:00-9:30 Who: All FLS middle school students Theme: Midnight in Paris Dress: Boys - slacks, button down shirts, polos / Girls - dresses, slacks (no jeans, t-shirts, hoodies) This is a dress-up event!

FLY NIGHT: All 6th-12th graders are invited to join us for FLY night every Wednesday from 5:30-7:00. We meet in the youth house for dinner and devotions, then head to the gym for games! Please have a ride available to pick you up at 7:00 pm.

WINTERJAM: Join us on Saturday, Feb 29th, for the WinterJam tour! All youth 6th-12th grade are invited to join us for this evening of Christian music and fellowship! The cost is $15 per person, this covers entry to the concert. Dinner will be provided. We will leave First Lutheran at 2:00 and return around midnight. Thanks to our volunteer drivers, we -3-

have 20 seats available, but they’re filling up fast! If you’re interested in attending (or driving), please see Jennifer Heitman for more details. Due to the limited number of seats available, seats will NOT be reserved until permission slips and fees have been turned in. This will be a first come, first serve, basis.

Mrs. Scott: General 6th Grade Math has taken their Chapter 8 Test and started Chapter 9 today. Advanced 6th Grade/General 7th Grade Math took their Chapter 9 Test today. Advanced 7th Grade is working with slope intercept form. 8th Grade Algebra is solving linear systems by substitution. Advanced Algebra is working on Exponential Growth and Exponential Decay. Chapter 8 Test will be on Tuesday.

6th Grade Religion: Memory work due today was the Fifth Commandment and its meaning. Memory work due on 2/19 is the Sixth Commandment and its meaning.

Mrs. Hanson: 6th grade is working vocabulary this week for our new chapter on elements, compounds, and mixtures. We will have a vocab quiz Thursday before we go to the movies.

7th grade is moving on to plate tectonics also working vocab and will have a vocab quiz Wednesday.

8th grade has been given a Vertebrate project for which they will be watching documentaries on the different vertebrate groups and asked to write a movie review. Most of this will need to be done independently as we will discuss general vertebrate information together in class. Project work days will occasionally happen in class. Students need to find 5 videos they will use by Wednesday.

Mr. Covert: We’re halfway through the third quarter! I hope everyone is doing well as we continue on through this quarter and get closer to Lent.

Classes are moving at a pretty good clip right now. 8th grade will be starting the Progressive Era this week, looking at that period in the early 1900s where ideas like women’s rights were pushed to the forefront. In 7th grade, we’re continuing our study of South Asia. As for 6th grade, we’re working our way through the Medieval era of history.
