To see what’s available in stock, please stop by or call the office. Participating retailers sell the cards to the school at a discount, we sell them to you at face value, and the profit is a fundraiser for the school!

FLS NIGHT AT PO-HI BASKETBALL: Tomorrow (Thursday) your student(s) will bring home a free ticket for them to attend the Po-Hi basketball games on Friday, 12/13/19 at the Robson Fieldhouse; Ponca Wildcats versus Lawton. Games are at 6:30 (girls) & 8:00 (boys).

A BIG THANK YOU to the incredible number of people that help with the Christmas Market. The enormous amount of time, talent, and treasures that is given to put on this extravaganza is stupendous. A special thank you goes to Shirley Zimmerman who seems to live and breathe it all year. May God continue to bless you as richly as you have blessed our church and school.

MINI CHEER: Mini cheer registration is OPEN! Clinic dates will be Monday, Jan 13 - Wednesday, Jan 15.

Y.A.L.L.: The “Young-ish adults living life” group meets every Thursday evening from 7-8 in the youth house. We are currently doing a video series of an “outsider visits the Lutheran church”.

WHAT CHRISTMAS MEANS TO ME: Join the Evans Children's Academy in their Christmas production of "What Christmas Means To Me", written by a local director and actors of Evans! Four of our FLS students are in this play; Jordyn Heitman, Khloe Andrews, Porter Hunt, and Reese Andrews - in addition to several FLS alumni! Shows will be Friday, Dec 13 @ 7;30, Saturday, Dec 14 @ 2 & 7:30, Sunday, Dec 15 @ 2.

SNOW DAY NOTIFICATION: In the event that school may be cancelled due to inclement weather, we follow Ponca City Public Schools schedule FOR WEATHER-RELATED CANCELLATIONS ONLY. Listen to your radio during the cancellation announcements, and if Ponca City Schools are cancelled, First Lutheran will be out, also; however, there will NOT be a separate announcement for First Lutheran. CITY WIDE HOOPS SHOOT/CARDINALS BASKETBALL – Coach Amanda: Lady Cardinals brought home 5th from the Hope Tournament! Please watch our basketball schedule (it’s in the Chatter!) and come watch your Lutheran Cardinals! We would love to pack the house!

Hoop Shoot contest is happening during P.E. this week. Ask your children about it! All students ages 8-13 will participate in hopes to win and move on to the city-wide competition!

LIBRARY – Ms. Ware: Thank you to everyone who made the book fair a success! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of our students and their families!

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: This week we are doing a review of all of our letters we have learned so far. We are also working on Christmas projects. Our Christmas party will be on Monday the 16 th at 2:15. All parents are welcome to attend! A note will be sent home today in backpacks. Have a great week!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Gillespie: We have had a busy week in Pre-K. Busy with Christmas crafts and gifts.

This week we are learning the letter C and number 12. Next week on Thursday Dec 19th, we will have a Christmas Party at 2pm. We will have a gift exchange of a pair of socks, filled with goodies. Then on Friday Dec 20th will be PJ day, hot cocoa, and a movie. Plus bring a fun toy to show your friend. Please remember to have your student wear a warm coat to go outside at recess.

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: The excitement of Christmas is in the air, and the kids! We are busy making crafts, singing songs, and assessing what we have learned for report cards. Report cards will come out in January. Our Christmas party will be on the 19th at 2:00. We will have pajama/movie day on the 20th, which is a half day. Please remember to bring your child's gift exchange gift by Wednesday the 18th. We are running low on snacks, look for the note in folders today about bringing snacks after Christmas break. We will start having show and tell on the first Thursday of the month in January, so our show and tell will be on Thursday, January 9th. We are learning the letters Ff,Hh,Dd and the number 8. KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: Please mark your calendar for December 18th because we will have a Christmas program at 6:30 pm in the church. Also, we will have our Christmas class party on Thursday the 19 th at 2:30 pm with a gift exchange and everyone is welcome. Boys bring a boy gift and girls will bring a girl gift. These gifts have a $10.00 limit and need to be wrapped with a tag that says to boy or girl and from your child's name. Then on Friday the 20th we have half a day of school and we will have "PJ Day" and watch a movie. Merry Christmas and everyone have a great week!

FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Memory verse for Friday is Luke 2:11 - For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. Thank you parents and for those who took extra children for driving to the field trip last Thursday. Next week Wednesday, Dec. 18, will be the school Christmas Program in the church at 6:30. Please make plans to join us. Our class Christmas party is on Thursday, Dec. 19 at 2:15. We will have a gift exchange. Girls bring a gift for a girl and boys for a boy. On the gift just write who the gift is from. The price range is around $8-10. Jesus is the Reason for the Season!

SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: Can you feel the excitement in the air? What a wonderful time of the year!

We're still managing to get a little learning in. We had our first 100 addition fact paper today! It was a little daunting and I know we'll continue to make progress.

We're aiming to finish 100 addition facts in 5 minutes. We're excited about our class Christmas party on the 20th at 10:30 in the morning. The children may purchase a toy to share at our party, boys bring a boy's gift and girls bring a girl's gift. Try to limit the expense to $10. Our Christmas program is next Wednesday, the 18th at 6:30 in the church. Have a blessed Christmas and enjoy your extra days off! Remember that Jesus is the reason for this season!

THIRD GADE – Mrs. Steichen: I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season so far. The kids have been enjoying our elf, Peppermint, and all that she had been doing. We have also started talking about different Christmas traditions from different parts of the world. This week: We are back to normal since we finished How to Eat Fried Worms. Spelling, Reading test on Friday, with a paragraph on Thursday. Next week will be a bit different but we will still do a reading story and tests, no paragraph. Next week reminders: Wednesday - Grinch Day. Please dress up like your favorite Grinch character and we will enjoy Grinchy activities and treats all day. Thursday we will be going to the trampoline park for our A.R. party (please get permissions slips to me ASAP. I need both pages please). Friday is a half day and our Christmas party. We are asking each student to bring 13 small items to fit into stockings. Each student will get a stocking with a bunch of fun goodies in them. Party starts at 10:30 am. I pray you all are having a wonderful Advent season.

FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: WOW! It is really cold outside! Make sure we are dressed properly for winter weather to have illnesses stay away. Continue to send in chapel offering for Victor and Rosario. Let’s share with those that need our help. We have a lot of important dates coming up! Friday (13) our Nationalities are due, Book Report (16) are due on Monday, the 18th is the MW region states & capitals test. The kids know great tools to practice this and all regions. We jump in Stillwater on the 19th; the last day to make goals is the 17th. Many have a way to go to make the AR Goal! The amount on the slip does not include lunch money. Please look in the last Friday Letter for information on our CHRISTmas party and exchange. Peace as we show Love to the people that Christ has placed in our lives.

FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: Our Christmas program for Kindergarten – 5th grade and FLC Sunday School children is Wednesday, December 18 at 8:30 chapel and 6:30 evening performance, both in the church. It promises to be a blessing. Mrs. Schelp will let us know what time and where to meet. Next Friday, December 20, is a half day of school and our Christmas party. You'll be hearing from Kristi Hunter for what you need to bring for this party. We're going to do a fun craft. For this your child will need a sock and toilet paper roll. Each student will also need to bring a gift that they would like to receive. Boys bring a boy's gift and girls a girl's gift. You can send it with your child any time; just so it's under our tree on Friday the 20th. Blessings to you during this busy Advent season. It helps me to pause and remember that Jesus is the reason for it all. In Him is our peace and joy.

FIFTH GRADE SCIENCE – Mrs. Hanson: We have finally finished the unit! We will review together with a book review and in class reviews, take a quiz Friday, and then take a test next Wednesday, Dec. 18. This will be the final and largest grade calculated into the overall grade. This can either help or hurt depending on the amount of time dedicated to studying. Students should review vocabulary and look back over their lessons in their books.

MIDDLE SCHOOL F.L.Y.: THIS WEEK 5:30-8:00!! Join us for dinner, church, and an epic snow ball fight in the gym! Bring a friend!

Mrs. Scott: General 6th Grade Math is well in to Chapter 6 working with graphs. Advanced 6th/General 7th Grade Math is working on solving equations and inequalities. Advanced 7th Grade Math is working with ratios and proportions.

Algebra 8 is working with slope. Advanced Algebra is working with solving linear equations and will have their Chapter 7 test before quarter end.

6th Grade Religion: Memory work due today were the remaining books of the New Testament (PhilemonRevelation). No memory work due on December 18th.

Mrs. Hanson: We are reinforcing learning this week by doing hands on activities and reviewing.

All classes will have a comprehensive final exam on Thursday, Dec. 19 that will cover all information learned since August. The exam is made of questions from previous tests, quizzes, and reviews. We will review together in class all next week until the test, but studying will still need to be done independently, at home.

The following is the information that will be covered on the final exam.

6th Grade: Ch. 1.2, 1.4, 2.1-2- scientific method, parts of an experiment, measuring and describing matter.

7th Grade: Ch. 9, 10, 12- minerals, rocks, weathering/erosion.

8th Grade: Ch. 2, 9, 12- characteristics of life, macromolecules, cell theory, classification, microorganisms, invertebrates.

Mr. Covert: We’ve got two weeks left until Christmas break! I hope everyone is doing their best to stay healthy and finish off the semester strong!

Our classes are going to get through everything we can before break. 8th grade is going to work through the split in the country that began the Civil War, and get started on the conflict itself. In 7th grade, we’re going to wrap up North and South Europe this week. As for 6th grade, we’re going to continue focusing on Rome’s transformation from Republic to Empire.

8th grade parents: I have sent out a form for Washington DC information to your FastDirect. I need this filled out for everyone in your family who will be going, including your student, by FRIDAY, December 13. If I don’t have somebody’s information by then, unfortunately, they will NOT be able to go. This is a non-negotiable deadline.

Mrs. Harbeson: Hello! I hope you all are doing well! Can you believe that we have come to the end of our first semester? It seems just like yesterday that we were welcoming our students on their first day of school! I want to thank all of you for everything you've done to make 2019 a great year here at FLS. We couldn't do what we do without your support and prayers!

Here are a few things to wrap up our year...

8th grade: We are leaving for Tulsa at 8:45 on Friday morning. You still need to be at school by 8:20. I am sending home a ride list and information sheet with students today. Please let me know if you have any questions.

We will be having our class Christmas party on Thursday afternoon. Please bring a drink and $2 per slice if you would like to be in on the pizza order. I will provide snacks and dessert. Also, if you would like to take part in the gift exchange, please bring a wrapped gift marked "boy" if you're a boy and "girl" if you're a girl and place it under the tree.

Gifts should be no more than $10 max. During our party, we will be watching A Christmas Carol.

For everyone: Lesson 7 spelling and vocabulary tests are Tuesday, December 17. We will be grading folders on Wednesday, December 18. Please...if you are leaving early for Christmas Break, be sure to check with all your teachers, hand everything that is due for this quarter in, and take any quizzes or tests before you leave. It is your responsibility to do this.

Who:

All students 4 years (must be potty trained) - 6th grade (sorry, no age exceptions)

What: Learn what it’s like to be a cheerleader! You will learn a routine to perform at the games against Woodland on January 16, as well as an in school performance (TBA)!

When: Practices will be Monday, January 13th- Tuesday, January 14th from 3:30-4:30 in the cafeteria, and Wednesday, January 15th from 3:30-4:30 in the gym.

Performance will be Thursday, January 16th at halftime during the Boy’s game, arrive at 7:00.

Where: Practices will take place in the cafeteria/gym. Performances will be in the gym.

Cost is $35.00 per child. Please turn your registration in to the school office or your homeroom teacher or school office by Thursday, January 9 to ensure your child receives a t-shirt and bow. **Make checks payable to FLS Cheer** Please bring your child to participate in the fun! They do not have to be a student of FLS to participate. Late registrations will be accepted; however, they will not be guaranteed a t-shirt or a bow.

We have outside recess every day, and some days are VERY cold. Please send a jacket with your student to school EVERY DAY! Also, please make sure their name is in the jacket. They will have a much more enjoyable recess period if they are warm, and so will the staff who is supervising them! (If you cannot afford a jacket for your student, please contact the office, and we will get you in touch with an organization that can help.)
