Covid Update - We pray that we took enough precautions with the Fallalapalooza. Please continue monitoring yourself and your children for any signs and symptoms. We know symptoms are confusing but please err on side of precaution and we will get through this together.

FALLAPALOOZA – Mr. Birnbaum: A BIG SHOUT OUT to Jennifer Heitman for the Trunk and Treat arrangements & to all the room mothers who worked on Auction items, pumpkin contest, and MOST ended up working their class games by themselves. THANK YOU ROOM MOTHERS and we pray that more people will serve like you did!!! THANK YOU to EVERYONE who helped with the FALLAPALOOZA. It was a busy day but memorable for our children for years to come.

Congratulations to: Deklan and Kelton Brown for their tie in the Coloring Contest on Saturday from the PK-1st grade levels; Reese Andrews (1st) & Juniper Hanson (2nd) from the 2nd through 4th grade; and Kinley Brown (1st) & Hayden Lyda (2nd) from the 5th through 8th grade level. Thirty children competed in the competition and their entries are displayed on the Principal's office window. First place may choose a $10 gift card from Mr. Birnbaum.

Thank you to our Middle School Students and teacher Tane Kester for the Mock Elections Tuesday. What a great learning experience for our students!

Pumpkin Contest winners - PK for most creative, Kindergarten with most religious, and 4th Grade for the most Artistic. CONGRATULATIONS and thank the teacher and room mother for the treats that you have won!

STUDENT COUNCIL – Mrs. Harbeson: Hello, FLS! We hope you have been enjoying Red Ribbon Week! Remember that winners will be drawn daily from each building to receive a prize if you are Wearing Your Red Ribbon Bracelet!

We are also holding a PENNY WAR to raise money for our philanthropy project. This year, student council has chosen to raise money to purchase items for Samaritan's Purse. The more money we make, the more gifts we can give!

The penny war will run until next Tuesday.

Rules of the Penny War:  Place pennies in your homeroom's can.  Pennies give your class points, and anything  Place silver or bills in the other class's cans in your building. silver or bills will deduct class points.

The winning class in each building will receive a class party!

Student Council is also holding a COLORING CONTEST for the ECE and elementary buildings. Winners will be chosen from each grade and will receive a prize. Contest entries are due to Mrs. Harbeson by Thursday, Nov. 4. Winners will be announced on Friday.

Finally, we have just two more DRESS UP DAYS. Thursday is PJ Day and Friday is FLS Spirit Day! VETERAN’S DAY PARADE!: Our Cheerleaders will be walking in the parade this Saturday, and would love for you to join them! They line up at 10:30. We don’t have a location yet, so call the office Friday to see if we have a meeting spot yet. Or just wait along the parade route and jump in! Wear First Lutheran gear if you have it.

BOOK FAIR IS COMING! Our Scholastic Book Fair will be starting on Monday, Nov 16 (with precautions) in the main Library (in the Administration Building). We need help to make this happen! If you can give an hour or two helping in the book fair, please contact the office, or Susie Manning on FastDirect.

Tuesday, Nov 17 will be Donuts with Dads for last names A-L. Wed, Nov 18 will be the same for last names M-Z. Thursday, Nov 19 will be Muffins with Moms last names A-L, Friday, Nov 20 will be the same for last names M-Z. If your day does not work for your schedule please come on the day that does!

Monday, Nov 23 will be Grandparent's Day and Book Fair for ECE families, and K-8 families with the last names starting A-L. Tuesday will be Grandparent's Day for K-8 and Book Fair for families with the last names starting M-Z. K-8 can find your visiting times below, PS & PK are welcome to come after your grandparents’ celebration. Everyone, please come visit us and make our book fair a success!

PRINCIPAL – Mr. Birnbaum: It has been an interesting first quarter trying to get the students (& teachers) back into routine and especially with all the new, health safety routines. I did classroom observations the past couple of weeks and we have GREAT TEACHERS and wonderful students. THANK YOU for choosing our school!

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: What a week we had last week! This week we are in full swing! We are learning all about the letter G and the sound it makes. We are also busy getting ready for Grandparent’s Day. Have a great week!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: Thank you to all that helped with the Fallapalooza! It was a great event!

Thank you to student council for planning fun dress up days for Red Ribbon Week and rescheduling them this week!

Tomorrow is pajama day and Friday is Lutheran spirit day. Book orders are due back to me or online by Friday, November 6th. Show and Tell is also on Friday. Our Bible words this week are, Nothing will be impossible with God. Luke 1:37 We are learning the letters Nn,Cc,Oo and the number 4. We are having a canned food drive this month for chapel offering. KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: I was exposed to 2 positive cases of Covid, so I will not be at school for several days. I want to keep your children safe, because they are precious to me! At this time I don't have any symptoms. I would like to thank you for your prayers during this time. I would also like to thank all the parents that sent treats to our party on Friday. The children had a great time eating all the special goodies and dressing up! This week on Friday is show and tell; please bring something that fits in your child's backpack. Please keep working with your child on their homework sight words and books. If you have internet now after the ice storm please continue with our online books too. Your children are becoming awesome readers and the more they read the better they become. I hope everyone has a fantastic week!

FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: We are getting things back to normal after a crazy week! Glad everyone is back at school and we all stayed safe! Memory verse for Friday is Psalm 23:3 - He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Tomorrow is show and tell. Bring your favorite stuffed animal to go with your pajamas! Have a wonderful week!

SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: Hi, this is Mrs. Goll. I will be teaching second grade for the next few weeks as Mrs. Powell is home with her husband who is ill. Memory work this week will be Psalm 107:1. The spelling list will be the same as last week because we missed three days with the ice storm. Thank you, Middle School, for giving us an election experience on Tuesday. Thank you, Student Council, for all the fun Red Ribbon Week activities. I pray you've all recovered from ice storm damage. THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: What an ice storm!! I hope everyone got their power back on and is doing well. I am so glad we are back and have internet back at school. I have a huge pile of papers to enter. Please check back in a couple days for updated grades. This week: This is a do-over week. Spelling and Reading Test on Friday; the story is Tops and Bottoms. Memory: 2nd Commandment is due today; 3rd is due next Wednesday. Science: We are working on Photosynthesis. Social Studies: We are finishing up with communities and will move on to a new unit next week.

Halloween Party: Thank you Mrs. Lauer for planning our party. Thank you parents who donated treats. The kids had a wonderful time. Have a wonderful week!

FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: What great blessings we have as are here together with power, heat, & internet as God showed His power! We are so loved. Happy Reformation season as we see how we are changed with Christ in His Freedom! We have started the second quarter off on a good foot; let’s continue to keep the good pace & steady footing for the rest of the year! Keep reading for AR. Make sure that you are getting emails or texts to alert your students have taken a test. Some of us are already reading & testing big point books to make 2nd quarter easier; WAY TO GO! Chapel offering is going towards Compassion International. Have a great week praising to God! FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: What a week, that last week of October! I think that might be a first in my 63 years of life! 2020 has been a tumultuous year for many. But I am reassured that God is in control and He loves us and will take care of us through ice storms and sickness and death. We have picked up this week where we left off last Monday. We have started diagramming in language, which proves to be a challenge, but this group of 5th graders is handling it well. It is such a pleasure to be with these kids every day. They bring much joy into my life. Happy birthday in November to Faith (5), Claire (11), and Kinley (30)!

FIFTH GRADE SCIENCE – Mrs. Hanson: 5th grade started out the week making some goals for our second quarter. And now we are moving on to learn about different types of investigations scientist perform to learn about the world around them and solve problems.

We have some online and book assignments this week.

MIDDLE SCHOOL Mrs. Scott: Last week's ice storm threw me for a loop but each class is back on track and working our way through each lesson. I have had several students with late work. Please help me encourage your student to complete their assignments and to do their best on each assignment. I have noticed that many assignments aren’t completed all the way through.

5th Grade Math took their Test 5 yesterday and will be completing two Investigations from the book before we move on with Lesson 31.

6R Math is half way through Chapter 4. We will continue to work with fractions and decimals. Their Chapter 4 Test will be the end of next week.

6A/7R Math is half way through Chapter 4. We will continue to work with fractions and decimals. Chapter 4 Test will be mid-week next week.

7A Math is half way through Chapter 4. Review for Chapter 4 Test will begin either later this week or early next week. Their Chapter 4 Test is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.

8R Math began reviewing for their Chapter 3 Test yesterday. We finished reviewing today and the Chapter 3 Test will be on Thursday.

8A Math wrapped up Chapter 3 today and will begin reviewing for the Chapter 3 Test on Thursday. Chapter 3 Test will be THIS Friday.

Mrs. Hanson: Thank you to all who made Fallapalooza happen and be successful. It was great to see all of you there and I hope you had as much fun as my kids and I did.

6th grade is getting dense this week... as in we are learning all about density... ha ha get it ;) We will be creating some really look study tools in interactive notebook pages, doing some hands on investigations, and working plenty of density math problems to become less dense about density.

7th grade is putting the pieces together to learn more about sedimentary rocks.. .heheh.. I did it again! Ask your student if they get the joke. Hopefully by the end of the week we will be making our own sedimentary rock.

8th grade is sorting through classification information... hahaha! I am on a roll!! We will be learning how scientists classify living things and then we will use our knowledge to classify some non-living things.

All classes will have a vocab quiz Friday.

Ms. Kester: Whoa! The students did SO great today at the Mock Election! The sixth graders' fancy ballot boxes were rockin', the seventh graders' outfits and president posters stole the show, and the eighth graders wowed us all with their wit, confidence, and courage! Thanks to all who supported them today. And, a special shout-out to the creative Mrs. Amber who worked hard to help us pull the event together!

Next stop: tests, that the ice disrupted. But that's OK; we're pros at getting back on track, so History and Religion, HERE WE COME! We're picking up where we left off in Religion. As for History, all middle-schoolers are set to take their tests on Friday; yes, this Friday. So, let's get busy!

Mrs. Harbeson: Greetings, everyone!

I hope your week has been treating you well! What an election day we had! Thank you - Ms. T, eighth, seventh, and sixth grades - for putting on and decorating for our mock election! It was great!

In language, 7th grade has begun reading "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe," and you know what that means! Bloom Ball book reports! They have begun their first 3 sheets which are due on Friday. 6th grade has been reading short stories, as well as 8th grade. All classes are working on grammar - capitalization in 6th and 8th and verbs in 7th.

Just a reminder...Thanksgiving Break will be here before we know it. Be sure to stay on top of your assignments!
