And now, it’s time for the CARDINAL SHOUTOUT; a place for us to recognize how talented and diversified our students are! Well done to Cailyn Olechnowicz who, for the 2nd time, has donated 12” of her own hair to Wigs for Kids! What an awesome way to show your love to others!

GRANDPARENTS DAY is for grandparents of students in the PS-3-year old through 8th Grade classes. It is a day set aside each year to honor and celebrate our grandparents! Grandparents are invited to come watch performances that the students have prepared for them, to visit their classrooms, visit the book fair together, and join their grandkids for lunch (K-8th only). If your student(s) are in the 3- or 4-year old classes, Grandparents Day is Monday, November 25, and you will get information on Grandparents' Day festivities from your teachers.

If your student(s) are in Kindergarten – 8th Grade, Grandparents Day is Tuesday, November 26 (keep reading!). Due to a gift, Grandparents will not be charged for lunch, but we still ask for Grandparent’s to RSVP to the school office if possible so that we can have an accurate head count and enough food. The schedule for Grandparents Day for K-8 follows. (3- & 4-year old’s will receive their schedules from their teachers.)

All children need to be signed out in the school office before leaving for the day. Please let Grandparent(s) know if they are taking their grandchild home, they need to stop by the office and sign them out.

BOOK FAIR – MS. WARE: The book fair is in full swing! We are open the rest of this week in the morning at 8:00 a.m. and each evening immediately after school gets out. Stop by Muffins with Moms tomorrow, Thurs, Nov 21, 7:308:10. We are thrilled to welcome our Grandparents after chapel services and classroom activities on Nov 25 and 26 to visit the book fair with their grandchildren. The last day to check out the book fair is during Grandparent’s Day, Nov. 26.

NIGHT OF PRAYER: December 1st will be our next Night of Prayer. All ages are welcome to join us in the youth house at 7pm to pray for our school, church, and community.

SPIRIT GEAR: First Lutheran Cheerleaders have a few extra FLS shirts available for $20 (limited sizes & quantities).

Another hat order will be placed next Monday. Contact Jennifer Heitman if you’re interested in purchasing one.

BOXTOPS CONTEST!: It’s on! Let’s see which class can bring in the most BoxTops! You have until TOMORROW to bring in your BoxTops to your child’s homeroom teacher, and then we’ll figure out who brought in the most. Which class will win?!

BOOK FAIR ESSAY: During library time, students have been learning about book fairs and writing essay’s about what they love about the book fair. A few of our favorites are attached for you to enjoy.

PRE-SCHOOL, PRE-KINDERGARTEN CLOSED TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 26—DAYCARE OPEN FOR THOSE SIGNED UP: If your students’ teacher is Ms. Colvin, Ms. Gillespie, or Ms. Kelly, there will not be class on Tuesday, November 26 as that is grandparents’ day for classes Kindergarten-8th Grade. However, daycare will be open for those pre-school/prekindergarten students who are signed up. If your student is going to be here on Tuesday, November 26, please indicate so on the sign up sheet in daycare. We will have lots of guests that day, and we need daycare attendee’s to sign up to make sure we have enough food for everyone.

THANKSGIVING BREAK - NO SCHOOL ON WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 27TH – DAYCARE OPEN FOR THOSE SIGNED UP: If you need daycare this day and haven’t signed up, please check with Ms. Heidi ASAP to see if there is room.

ADVENT SUPPERS: This year FLCS will host our first intergenerational Advent Suppers on 12/4 and 12/11 from 5-6.

What is an intergenerational supper? Intergenerational suppers provide the opportunity to fellowship with congregants of different generations, seating you and your family at a table with those whom you may not have had the opportunity to get to know otherwise! There will be Bible verses/devotion topics placed at each table to encourage conversation and sharing of traditions. This is a great chance for our youth to meet our elders, and our School families and young families to mingle with our experienced families. Then, join us for advent service in the Sanctuary at 6:30.

PRINCIPAL – Mr. Birnbaum: Mid-quarter for the 2nd period already and only three weeks left after Thanksgiving Holiday. Please keep a close watch on your child's grades because this quarter is coming to an end quickly!

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: This week we are learning all about the letter B and the sound it makes.

Grandparent's Day is Monday the 25th from 10:00 to 11:00. It will be held in the Church Sanctuary and Fellowship Hall.

The children are to come to class as normal and we will walk over there as a group. They have been working really hard on the presentation! Have a great week!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Gillespie: We are looking forward to Grandparents Day next Monday, Nov. 25th, starting at 10 am in the sanctuary. Thank you parents for signing up to bring food, drinks, and paper goods. This well will be filled with practice and Thanksgiving activities. We will also be learning the letter H and number 10.

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: Happy Birthday Deklan and Kelton! Thank you to the parents that have signed up to bring food and to help for our Grandparents' Day on Monday! We are excited to welcome our Grandparents; It is always a special event! We will dismiss at 11:00 on Monday and we do not have school the rest of the week. Our Bible Words this week are, The Lord is a stronghold... in times of trouble. Psalm 9:9 We are reviewing the letters that we have learned so far, and learning the number 6. Have a Blessed week and a wonderful Thanksgiving!

KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: Grandparents Day will be on November the 26th starting at 9:00 am in the gym.

Please RSVP to the school office for your grandparent’s lunch. If your child doesn't have a grandparent handy, then they may adopt one (an older church friend, or an older neighbor, etc.) School will be dismissed early that day, and grandparents need to sign their grandchildren out in the school office before they leave with their grandchild. FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Memory verse for Friday is Matthew 28:20 - I am with you always, to the end of the age. It's book fair week - make sure to stop by the book fair and check it out! The children went to visit on Monday and are very excited about all of the great books they saw! We will have show and tell on Friday. Our topic for show and tell is to bring something that you are thankful for (toy, picture of someone, book). Our class Christmas party will be on Thursday, Dec. 19 at 2:15. For those of you that like to get an early start on shopping, we will have a gift exchange. The girls bring a girl gift and the boys bring a boy gift. The price range is around $8-$10. We are looking forward to spending time with our Grandparents on Tuesday! November reading logs can be turned in after Thanksgiving break. SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: Thanksgiving Blessings! I'm thankful for my family and friends. God has blessed me with many people to love. Thank you all for the many kind words and birthday wishes. You helped make it a wonderful day! The disguised turkeys turned out great. There are so many creative ideas and I appreciate your help.

Check out the finished projects in our hall. We're enjoying the Book Fair and the special events. Thank you, Ms. Ware.

Remember that Tuesday is Grandparents' Day. The children may leave with their grandparents after lunch. If you travel, be safe. Enjoy your precious children. Blessings!

THIRD GADE – Mrs. Steichen: Where has time gone?? Believe it or not we are halfway through this quarter.

Please check your child's bag for their mid quarter grades. If you have any questions please let me know. I try my hardest to keep the grade book up to date. This week: Spelling Test on Friday, Math Test on Thursday. Reading: No test or paragraph this week; we are moving right along in How to Eat Fried Worms. Science: We are working on photosynthesis. Look for a test over plants before the end of the quarter. Grandparent's Day: We have been working really hard on our Grinch play. We cannot wait to show our Grandparents. After Thanksgiving break we will present our play to our families, I will get a note out to you after the break. Theater Production: Please sign and return the permission slip by next Monday, November 25th. Have a wonderful and thankful, Thanksgiving holiday.

FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: We are all so excited for grandparents next Tuesday. Are you using secret weapons for children’s school? The planner, folder, & Fast Direct! This will tell you everything you need to know about your child’s school day when it’s filled out, papers put in appropriate folders. Don’t forget FD shows grades. These are vital parts to being in tune with what kids do in school. Please make sure that planners are signed nightly. Mid Terms come home today. Please have the half sheet signed & returned Friday after discussing grades with students. Keep reading for AR & BOOK IT! Some are doing great & are close to making goals; some need some good reading time to catch up. The region to study is the Midwest. Continue to think of the things that that God has richly blessed us with, in this season. Blessings as we count our gifts from God, as we share them with others.

FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: Thanksgiving is just a week away! Isn't that just unbelievable?! Tuesday, November 26, is Grandparent's Day. Your child is to wear black jeans, slacks, or sweatpants, dark socks and a white shirt for the song we will perform for our grandparents. FIFTH GRADE SCIENCE – Mrs. Hanson: This week 5th graders will be finishing their in class bouncy ball investigation. We will also be looking at different tools that are used in science. Ask your student to tell you about one of these tools.

I will be on a field trip with 7th grade this Friday, so Mr. Covert and I will be flip-flopping science and social studies, science will be Thursday and S.S. will be Friday.

We will take another crack at the vocab quiz this Thursday.

MIDDLE SCHOOL FLY: We meet every Wednesday from 5:30-7:00 for dinner, devotions, and games. This is open to all 6th-12th grade students. Watch for an adjustment to the times as we approach Advent season.

Mrs. Scott: General 6th Grade Math is wrapping up Chapter 5 and will have their next chapter test on Friday, November 22nd. Advanced 6th/General 7th Grade Math had their Chapter 6 test yesterday and will begin Chapter 7 today.

Advanced 7th Grade Math had their Chapter 5 test yesterday and will begin Chapter 6 today. 8th Grade Algebra had their Chapter 4 test yesterday and will begin Chapter 5 today. Advanced Algebra had their Chapter 6 test today and will begin Chapter 7 on Thursday.

6th Grade Religion: Memory work due today was the Minor Prophets of the Old Testament. Because we don’t have school on 11/27, our next memory work will be due on 12/4 and will be the first 17 books of the New Testament.

Mrs. Hanson: 6th grade has moved on to a new chapter. If students would like to make corrections on the last test, they need to be done according to the requirements described on the test correction instruction page given out Monday and must be turned in no later than Thursday, corrections will not be accepted after Thursday.

7th grade will be visiting the Hutchinson salt mine this Friday. Permission slips and payments were due today. I -3-

love this field trip and students in the past have said it's their favorite trip.

8th grade is finishing their info graphic for micro organisms that are due Friday. They are also identifying and pinning bugs to create our class insect collection.

Next week is our super short Thanksgiving week with Grandparents day on Tuesday with early dismissal. Then just a few short weeks and the quarter is over! Please make sure you are keeping up with work and grades.

Mr. Covert: It’s out last full week before Thanksgiving! I hope everyone is enjoying this time of year, where we thank God for everything He has given to us.

Classes are getting through what we can before the break. 8th grade is going to be looking at the culture of the country prior to the Civil War, focusing on various groups that tried to effect change in the country. 7th grade is going to be taking a look at North and South Europe. As for 6th grade, we’ll be looking at Alexander the Great and his empire and the spread of Greek culture.

I pray that God continues to bless our school family as we move into this season of thankfulness and begin looking forward to the birth of our Lord and Savior. Blessings on your week!

Mrs. Harbeson: What are you thankful for? With Thanksgiving just a week away, I think it's important to reflect on the many gifts God gives us each and every day. I know that I am thankful for my husband, kids, and family. I'm thankful for my students, co-workers, and this school. I'm also thankful for my church family and friends. But what I'm most thankful for is God's saving grace. Jesus loves me so much he was willing to die for me so I could be with Him forever. All of us have so much to be thankful that for; let us not forget to be thankful to the One who makes it all happen!

We have a lot happening in the next few weeks! Tuesday is Grandparents' Day and I am looking forward to seeing all of you! The 8th graders are anxiously awaiting our field trip to the Tulsa ballet! I love trying out new experiences, and I hope this will be a memorable one for us all! Thank you, Parents and Chaperones, for going with us!

More information will be coming home after Thanksgiving Break!

Student Council members have also been busy! We are currently deciding on a fund-raiser for a philanthropy project (still deciding on that, as well) and a DJ for the middle school dance on Friday, February 21. We will be posting more information on the dance in upcoming Cardinal Chatters! The final event stuco is planning is a spirit-filled week of activities to end our semester and year. Be looking for more information after Thanksgiving!

And now…our students tell us why THEY love the book fair!

I will tell you about the book fair. We have the book fair every year. The book fair is a way to get out of your comfort zone because it allows you to read new books and try new stuff. My favorite thing about the book fair is that not only does it have books it also has markers, coloring books, science experiments, and much more, so you need to come to the book fair and see what all it has.

I like having the book fair around grandparent’s day so they can bring me there. Also during the book fair, they have days for people to take you. On one day it is muffins for moms.

In the morning you go outside the book fair and have muffins that you can eat with your mom. On another day is donuts for dads. You go to the book fair in the morning and there are donuts waiting for you outside the doors.

I love the Library especially when Book Fair comes. I love it because it has so many new, exciting books. It has Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Dog Man, even new books like Diary of a Pug, and more. That is why I love the book fair! The End! Braxton – 3rd

The Scholastic Book Fair is the best place in town to buy books. It has literally every new, popular, and trendy book that is out. The scholastic book fair also has games,toys, and posters that look really cool in your room or in the garage or really anywhere. I can't forget about the twisty erasers, the moving book marks and rulers, pencils, and much, much, more. The books are good to read. The Scholastic Book Fair has all the trending.

They have books ranging from science books to how to pet a dog. Overall you should come and bring some friends because it has a little something for everyone.
