Let us know and we can order others for you also. See what’s available and/or place your orders in the office.

DAYCARE – The daycare will be closed Thursday, November 25th and Friday, November 26th for Thanksgiving Break. Daycare will be available to those who signed up on Wednesday, November 24th. Please be sure to honor your selected drop off and pick up times and let us know if there are any change of plans.

Happy November! Book Fair is right around the corner. I need 1 or 2 parent volunteers for busy days.

Our fair is open for business Nov 15th-23rd. We are open after school until 4:30 or as long as there are people shopping. Thursday Nov. 18th is "Muffins with Moms (& Dad’s)." During Grandparent's Days, please pay us a visit after chapel and classroom activities! When you spend at the book fair, it benefits the library and allows us to purchase new books. While you’re here, be sure to check out the teacher’s wish lists for books they would like to have in the classroom. You can purchase a book and put a gift tag inside the book showing who the book is from.

We have an essay contest associated with the Book Fair. Essay’s should be at least 2 paragraphs, and they should write about their favorite memories of the book fair (and if they are new to the school, any book fair they have ever attended.) They could also write about why they enjoy reading and/or why it is important.

Book Fair Student Helpers: Do you have a middle schooler that will be hanging out after grandparent’s leave for the day? I would very much appreciate their help packing up the Book Fair until 3:10. Please send me a FastDirect or have your student talk with me or the office if they are available.

First Lutheran Church & School has begun making plans for the 10th Annual Christmas MARKET OKLAHOMA FESTIVAL, which will be held Saturday, Dec. 4th, 2021, on the church & school campus. We are inviting all vendors and crafters to participate. If you are interested and need to receive further information, please contact the church or school office or call Shirley (580-761-4657).

Gently used Christmas items - The 8th grade will have a booth at the Christmas Market on Sat. Dec. 4 and is collecting Christmas items to sell; proceeds will go to the 8th grade trip. If you have items to donate, please bring them to the school office or the 8th grade classroom. THANK YOU!!!

WAITING LIST - We currently have 41 names of children wanting (ten are new or about to be born) into our Early Childhood Program. Please pray that we or someone in Ponca can help with the care of these children.

COLLECTING PONCA CITY SANTA BUCKS: First Lutheran will be collecting the Santa Shops Ponca 1st tickets that are given out at participating local businesses each time you make a purchase during the Christmas season. If you are willing to donate yours to the school, please drop them by the school on or before December 20th. You can also place them in the black mailbox in front of the Administration Building. In the event that we win something, if you want to know if it was from your ticket, please write your name on the back of the strip of tickets & we’ll let you know!

BASKETBALL SEASON PASS: The first home basketball game will be November 30 versus the Saints. Save time at the gate and purchase your season pass now in the office; they are $20 for adults, $12 for Senior’s, and $12 for Students. (5 and younger, and Military/First Responders with I.D. are free).

Mr. Birnbaum: THANK YOU to the 2nd & 3rd grade parents for the INCREDIBLE attendance to perform for last Sunday's worship service. It is awesome showing the congregation so many beautiful faces & voices.

PARENTS - Be sure to sign your child in and out on Brightwheel as you drop them off and pick them up. You may use your phone or the kiosk provided. If you need any help, please see April or Heidi.

MUSIC – Mrs. Brey: Two shoutouts this week: Kindergarten and 8th grade have both received their reward for their hard work and good behavior in my class! These classes have displayed great attitudes and focus. In other news, the elementary Christmas program is coming up on Thursday, December 9th at 6:30pm. The kids are doing such a good job preparing and I can't wait for you to hear it!

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Daine: Please check ClassTag for the opportunity to sign up for food and to help serve on Grandparents’ Day, Monday, November 22nd. Have a blessed rest of the week!

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: Thanksgiving is almost here and Grandparent's Day; we are excited! Parents please visit our class tag page for signups, Thank you. This week will be learning all about the letters A, O, and C. We are also practicing really hard for Grandparent's Day. Have a great week!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: We have been practicing for our Grandparents' Day program. If you haven't signed up to bring something, please check our Class Tag and sign up. We want this to be a special day for our grandparents! We had some pretty cold days last week and some didn't have coats or only had a hoodie. Please make sure your child has a coat every day. We go outside in the morning and go across the street for lunch. Our Grandparents' Day is on Monday, and we don't have school the rest of the week. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Our Bible words this week are, Love the Lord your God. Deuteronomy 6:5 We are reviewing all the letters we have learned so far and the number 7. Have a Blessed week!

KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: We have so many things going on! The book fair is in full swing and grandparents’ day will be next Tuesday the 23rd. Thank you for inviting your grandparents! Also, the children's Christmas program will be on Thursday, Dec. 9 at 6:30. Blessings to your family this week!

FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Memory verse for Friday is Matthew 28:20 - I am with you always, to the end of the age. If you are able to help with items for the Operation Christmas Child box, please have the items turned in by Thursday. Thank you! Be sure to visit the Book Fair this week! We are looking forward to sharing the day with our Grandparents next Tuesday! We will have show and tell this Friday. Share something that you are thankful for! Happy birthday to Deklan and Kelton on Sunday, Nov. 21! I hope that everyone has a very blessed Thanksgiving next week!

SECOND GRADE – Ms. Felton: Happy Thanksgiving! I am grateful for your child and the blessing that they are in our class! Thank you to almost our whole class for singing at church on Sunday - it means a lot to the congregation, and I’m sure that God smiled down on them, too. In class, our afternoons are focused on STEM activities relating to Thanksgiving this week and next, along with some Thanksgiving projects and preparing for Grandparent’s Day. Our mornings from now until Christmas break will be a novel study on Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder.

This will encompass reading, vocabulary, math, and social studies, and sometimes science also. If you can, please obtain a copy of this book by November 29, when we return after Thanksgiving. You may either buy it ($7 on Amazon, $3.80 on abebooks.com) or borrow it (friends, library). Please let me know ASAP if you are unable to get it! Spelling will continue from our master list. Memory is Friday (Psalm 23:1-4), and then on Monday next week we will be speaking Psalm 23 with words and the sign language that we are learning. Book Fair is this week - Muffins with Moms tomorrow!

THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: Thank you everyone who came to sing on Sunday! The kids did amazing!! Thank you Mrs. Brey for all your hard work with the kids to get them ready. Now, bring on the musical! Parents: please put (2)

December 9th in your calendar. This is the evening of our Christmas Program. We need everyone there! Please continue to look at chatter for more information. This Week: Spelling, and Reading Test this week. Religion: 4 th Commandment and meaning due by Friday. Science: we will take an open book test on predator and prey this Friday. We will start a new chapter on Matter after Thanksgiving. Social Studies: We are working on Native Americans. We will finish this unit up after Thanksgiving. Grandparents Day: Remember next Tuesday is Grandparents Day. Our presentation is coming together nicely. We cannot wait to show it off! Have a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving!

FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: Our health is really too important to not be safe. Don’t forget your coat, to take your vitamins, and continue to stay healthy as God is showing His unwavering power in the weather. Keep reading for AR. We will hopefully complete the SE practice region this week. Test date is TBA. The kids know great tools to practice this and all regions. Mark your calendar for us singing in church on December 12th. The Christmas program is on the 9th.

Midterms come out today. Please have the half slip of paper signed for Friday. Help the kids by staying on top of grades and assignments on Fast Direct. Don’t forget the book fair is here this week! Grandparent’s day is right around the corner. Blessings as we prepare our hearts for the Lord!

5th Grade & Middle School Basketball – Coach Amanda: SHOUT OUT!! Congrats JV girls and boys for bringing home 3rd place in the Shidler Tournament.

Varsity boys got 2nd place and VARSITY GIRLS WON 1ST PLACE! It was a great tournament for all of our Lady Cardinals and Cardinals!

Thank you to the cheerleaders who came and cheered our players on!

5th GRADE RELIGION – Mrs. Brey: No memory work for the rest of the semester! Students are working so hard at their lines for the Christmas program, so we'll be focusing on that. Students will have one more test before the semester is up, and we'll go over the study guide together in class. Students will also have the chance to complete work for extra credit.

6th – 8th MATH – Mr. McKinley: 6th and 7th this week we are working on adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions and mixed numbers.

7th advanced and 8th will be finishing up chapter 5 with dividing fractions and using multiplicative inverse and least common denominator to solve equations.

SCIENCE – Mrs. Porter-Cain: Can you believe it is almost Thanksgiving?! I hope everyone is ready for the time with their loved ones and I pray that everyone remains healthy and Thankful!

5th Grade Science- We are closing out Unit 7 and will spend the week reviewing and studying for the test on Monday.

6th Grade Science- We are finishing up Unit 4 and are learning all about plants and animals- their similarities and differences! We will test on Monday!

7th Grade Science-Chapter 4 is coming to a close; the earth has spoken to us! We will test on Monday!

8th Grade Science- Chapter 4 and Cell Activities are concluding! Test on Monday!

P.E. – Mrs. Porter-Cain: We will play capture the cone and dodge ball in 2-4 and 5-6 will be getting in extra basketball time as we have a tournament this week! 7-8 will do various activities!

General – Mrs. Porter-Cain: I will be gone on Friday; my daughter Carsyn is having her tonsils removed. Please remind your children to GIVE GRACE to my sub and to bring home their Science books so they can be prepared for their tests on Monday!

LANGUAGE – Ms. Kester: It's almost Thanksgiving! That means we are winding down our current lessons and winding up our fun meter for a turkey-filled, pumpkin-spiced break. The rest of this week is full of quizzes and tests, (3)

rehearsals for Grandparents Day, and plans to meet for pizza as a homeroom after the Winnie the Pooh play at the Poncan Theatre. We love to support each other, and this is a great way to do it!

Please note that there are no reading logs this week, and new AR books will be distributed next week. And, you KNOW they will have a Christmas theme because I'm all about Christmas. Lastly, every student is to take their online AR test (on their current books) with Mrs. Manning by Tuesday. Don't let your child forget. Until next week!

SOCIAL STUDIES – Mr. Brey: 5th Grade. Students are discovering our branches of government. They have really excelled at this as a class and are almost done with this unit.

6th Grade: We are starting to dive into the Middle East. We have just started with the Israelites and are going over some Bible stories such as the Exodus from Egypt.

7th Grade: We will be continuing through our European unit. After the test, we will be looking at the Renaissance.

8th Grade: Students have started their Westward Expansion unit. This will be the years 1800-1850 and will last at least three weeks.

We have outside recess every day, and some mornings are getting pretty cool. Please remember to send a jacket with your student to school eVERY day! Also, please, please, please make sure their name is in the jacket. They will have a much more enjoyable recess period if they are warm, and so will the staff who is supervising them on the playground!
