OCTOBER 18 & 21 IS FALL BREAK, AND SCHOOL WILL BE CLOSED; daycare will be open for those who signed up. If you need care and didn’t sign up yet, please check with Ms. Heidi ASAP! October 25 we have a half-day of school, but daycare will be open. PLEASE let daycare or the office know if your student will be going to daycare that afternoon, so that we will have enough lunches for everyone!

TRUNK OR TREAT: Save the Date!! Saturday, October 26th First Lutheran Church & School will host our Trunk or Treat Festival. This will replace our previous years “family fun night”. We’ll have carnival games, food, fun, and of course Trunk or Treating! Watch for more information from your class parent about how you can help. Are you interested in hosting a trunk? SPIRIT SHIRT/HOODIE/HAT ORDERS: FLS cheerleaders are selling Cardinal Spirit shirts, hoodies, and hats this year! DEADLINE EXTENDED! Orders are due BY NEXT TUESDAY, October 15th. For a clear picture of the design see the digital copy of the chatter or our FLS facebook page! Order forms are attached to the chatter, and are also available in the office.

CHEER COMPETITION: Your FLS cheerleaders will be competing at the MCDA cheer and dance competition at Frontier City on Saturday, October 19th! Come out and show them your support, and then go have fun on some roller coasters! Spectator tickets (which include park entry) can be purchased for $23 + tax at frontiercity.com using promo code CHEER. THANK YOU to Jodi Cline, with Edward Jones, for her donation to FLS in memory of John and Margie Postier.

Y.A.L.L.: The Red Letter Challenge group will meet this Thursday evening!

CHAPEL OFFERINGS: We have collected $402.74 in Chapel Offerings to be used to sponsor Romaric and Bernadette this school year! Please remember your chapel offering next Wednesday for our last Chapel this quarter, so that we can continue to help these children!

PRINCIPAL – Mr. Birnbaum: Please keep our teachers in your prayers as we travel to St. Louis for the tri-annual Lutheran Teachers Convention for these next three days. Also keep the Erickson's & Harbeson's in your prayers as they both have sons getting married this weekend. First Quarter ends next week Thursday - October 17.

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: We had a great time at the Pumpkin Patch! Thank you so much Leah Bosworth and Sarah and Justin Choate!! We could not have gone without you! Have a great couple of days off!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Gillespie: A wonderful week in Pre-K! Fun was had by all at the Pumpkin Patch; thank you to those that were able to go along! We had another birthday this week; Happy Birthday Raylee! We learned the letter T, t and reviewed our vowels. No School on Thursday or Friday, have a great weekend!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: We had a great time at the pumpkin patch! Thank you to all that drove, and drove others! Parent/Teacher conferences are the 23rd-25th. Please sign up for a time in the classroom next week. Our Bible words this week are, God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9 We are learning about Fire Prevention, Pumpkins, and finishing our letter cluster M,A,S this week. No school Thursday and Friday. Have a Blessed Week!

KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: I hope everyone has a great time with your days off. We are on Unit 2 week 2 with our reading curriculum. It was great seeing so many parents and all the children on our pumpkin field trip Tuesday!

Thank you parents for all the help! I think everyone had a wonderful time. Have a fantastic week!

FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Thank you to the parents who helped with driving to our field trip. We had a lot of fun! Book orders went home today. These are due with an online order or a check to me by Thursday, October 17.

Save the date for Saturday, October 26 for our Trunk or Treat. You should have received information from Carsha Medina on how our class is helping. The end of the 1st Quarter is on October 18 and Parent/Teacher conferences will be held the following week. Please stop by the classroom either before school or after school to sign up for a conference time. Enjoy your 2 days off from school while the teachers attend the Lutheran Teacher National Convention in St. Louis.

SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: Praise God for beautiful fall weather! We're making fine progress and I'm proud of these second graders. The first quarter of this school year is almost over. Enjoy your extra long weekend and the next few shorter weeks of school! Blessings!

THIRD GADE – Mrs. Steichen: I think fall is officially upon us. Please send a jacket or sweatshirt with your child, they will go outside in the mornings to play. Remember to write their name in it so if it is left outside it can be returned to its owner. This week: Please hang in there with me, these next two weeks are crazy. Spelling, Reading, and Memory (Matthew through Titus) are all due next Thursday, October 17th. Paragraph will also come home next week. Science: Test over mammals and birds next week, look for a review to come home this week. Science projects are also due on Thursday, October 17th. We have been working on it in class. I will send home instructions on how to sign in and work on their projects using Google Classroom. Field Trip: Please make sure you get me your field trip forms, if you haven't already done so. Parent/Teacher Conferences: It is almost the end of the first quarter, look for conference forms to come home this week. If the time or date doesn't work for you please let me know, so we can get that rescheduled. I look forward to meeting with all of you. Remember: NO school this Thursday or Friday and next week on Friday and Monday.

FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: We have no school Thursday and Friday this week as the teachers are attending a conference. See you Monday bright, chipper, ready to go from a long weekend. Scholars should be reading their AR books nightly for success. The last day to make AR goals is October 17th. That’s a little over a week! The NE State & Cap Test is Monday. Look for the appointment sheet for Parent Teacher Conferences next week. Parent Teacher Conferences will be week after fall break. Blessings as we follow Christ’s paragon example!

FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: I hope you all enjoy your 4-day weekend! Look for conference schedules to come home early next week. I look forward to meeting with all of you! Enjoy the beautiful fall weather. Isn't it a blessing to have cooler days and nights?! Blessings!

MIDDLE SCHOOL F.L.Y.: Join us this Wednesday for FLY! We’ll meet in the youth house for pizza and devotions, then head to the gym to play basketball. This is open to all 6th-12th grade students.

Mrs. Scott: General 6th grade math is wrapping up Chapter 3 and will have a test on Tuesday, October 15th.

Advanced 6th grade/General 7th grade math has started Chapter 4 and are working on greatest common factors and least common multiples. Advanced 7th grade math has begun Chapter 4 and is working with prime numbers. 8th grade 2

Algebra is working on solving equations with multiple steps and equations with variables on both sides. 8th grade advanced math is working on slope. We encourage your student to SHOW THEIR WORK so when I am grading I can easily see where the mistake is made. If work is shown and the answer is wrong, the student automatically receives half credit!

The end of the quarter is fast approaching (next week). Please check your student's grades and make sure all work is turned in.

6th Grade Religion: Memory work due today was The Lord’s Prayer, The Fifth Petition and its meaning. Memory work due on 10/16/19 will be The Lord’s Prayer, The Sixth Petition and its meaning.

Please remember we don’t have school this Thursday or Friday. I pray for safe travels for all attending the National Convention!

Mrs. Hanson: What a nice short week we have! No school Thursday or Friday!

6th and 7th grade have recently tested. I am pretty pleased with the results! Test corrections can be made for additional credit and are actually required for any score less than an 80%. But I think it would be a wasted opportunity not to correct any test even with a decent score. Corrections are due Monday, 10/14.

8th grade has been reviewing this week and will have tested this Wednesday. Corrections can also be made. I have hopefully had the tests graded by the end of the day and returned to students.

Please mark your calendar for Oct. 25. We have a 1/2 day of school and this is also Conferences. In middle school we will have student led conferences. A schedule will go out soon. Please check hansonscience.blogspot.com for more info.

Mr. Covert: We’ve got a short week this week! The teachers are incredibly blessed to be heading to St. Louis for the national Lutheran Education Association Convocation at the end of this week. We’re looking forward to the fellowship with fellow Lutheran educators and the chance to learn some new things to bring back to our school!

We’re going to get in as much this week as we can. 8th grade is wrapping up the first presidency in our country, and the formation of the first two political parties. In 7th grade, we’ll be finishing up our study of Canada this week. As for 6th grade, we’ll be continuing our look at the journey of the Israelites after their conquest of Canaan.

7th and 8th grade have started another fundraiser in conjunction with the company Thirty-One, selling bags. The fundraising forms are due back on Tuesday, October 22, which is the day we return from fall break.

I pray that God continues to bless our school family as we move toward the end of the first quarter. Blessings on your week!

Mrs. Harbeson: Hello, Everyone! Isn't it absolutely beautiful outside? It's my favorite time of the year...for more than one reason this year! I hope you all are doing well and are ready for a short week.

As you know, I'm taking a few days off to prepare for my son's wedding on Saturday. We are so excited to have Cheyenne join our family, and I ask that you keep us in your prayers. While I am gone, Mrs. Goll will be taking my place.

She is wonderful, and I appreciate her very much!

Safe travels to our teaching staff as they travel to St. Louis for the national convention. I know you all will have a wonderful time of fellowship and learning. We need to thank those BOPE members, church members, teachers, and support staff who are helping out on Wednesday afternoon with the students...you all are the best!

The 7th grade class and I attended the theater in OKC on Monday. I hope you all had a great time! Thank you, Mrs. Turnipseed, Ms. Bickman, and Mrs. Krenn for driving us! We couldn't have done it without you!
