Sign Up Now for Daycare!

Covid Update - Got a little nervous this weekend. Had a couple of faculty not feeling well and one with a slight fever but God healed them quickly and their pep returned. Hallelujah! We keep hoping and praying that we are remaining diligent in health procedures and trust in God's protection.

This coming Wednesday - October 14 we are planning to have our biennial (every other year) fundraiser for St. Jude Children's Cancer Research Hospital. The Pre-K through 1st grades will bring bikes/trikes to school and get donations for the hospital. The PK will begin riding at 9:30 in our big parking lot. Then the Kindergarten will start at 9:50 and the 1st grade at 10:10.

MARRIAGES: We praise God for the blessing of marriage. In August our Elementary teacher aide SilverSky was joined in marriage to Mr. Jason Herren and this Monday we had the blessing to hold the ceremony for our computer/librarian teacher Susie Ware to Mr. Chris Manning. Our prayers go out for these newly weds.

DAYCARE SIGN-UPS!: Fall Break is Friday, October 16 & Monday, October 19. School will be out. Daycare will only be open if enough people need daycare and sign up for it. If you are one of those people, sign-up sheets are in daycare; please stop by and sign up for the days that you will need daycare. Watch here next week to see what day(s) that daycare had enough people sign up, to be open.

Fallapalooza - Saturday, October 24 from 10-2:00. A catch-all that includes Family Fun (Day) / Auction / Trunk or Treat / BBQ contest / etc. Details and order form are on the attached flyer. Ask your child's teacher and/or room parent about your class auction item and your game work shift time (between 9:3012:30) if you haven’t been contacted already. Also, please keep bringing us your little stuffed animals and small toys that we can give away as prizes.

Change in FALLAPALOOZA ticket procedure!!! Send in your orders, and tickets will be kept in the office and handed out at the event, so you don’t have to worry about losing them!

EXTRA MASKS: Parents, please…please …please to save the class from disruptions and you from making extra trips, please put an extra mask in your child’s backpack for those days when they forget theirs at home/in the car/etc. An extra water bottle would be a great addition!

PURPLE ARMOR OF GOD T-shirts came in & have been handed out. If you didn’t get yours, please contact the office.

1 QUARTER CHAPEL OFFERINGS: We need to collect an average of $35 a week to be able to continue our sponsorship of Rosa for this year. If you are able, please send monetary contributions with your student for chapel donations, so that we can continue to help meet Rosa’s educational, physical, and spiritual needs during the next year.

The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) at the church is now collecting used (clean) shoes and items for Baby Kits (see bottom of this Chatter for items needed). You may drop off these donations in the school office.

PRINCIPAL – Mr. Birnbaum: Lord willing, the Fallapalooza will continue to happen on Saturday - October 24.

We are making plans for splitting Grandparents Day to Monday afternoon Nov. 23 for students with last names beginning with A through L and then M through Z will be on Tuesday morning. Meals, programs, worship, book fair, and classroom visits will be on both days.

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Colvin: This week we are learning all about the Letter M and the sound it makes. Pumpkin Patch forms are due today. Have a great week!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: Happy Birthday Declan and Raylee! Field trip forms and money were due today! If you haven't returned yours, please send it tomorrow. Our October book order is due to me or online on Friday.

We will have a Trike-a-Thon to raise money for St. Jude Children's Hospital next Wednesday the 14th. Information packets should be in folders today. Our Bible words this week are, I waited patiently for the Lord. Psalm 40:1 We started our first letter cluster this week. We are learning the letters Aa,Mm,Ss and the number 1.

KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: We will leave Tuesday, October 13th at 8:50 for our field trip to Rustic Roots.

Please meet the class out front (main doors/east). We will come to you and wait in the Lobby area. The children are very excited! We also want to say happy birthday to Blake on the 13th! I hope everyone has a sensational week!

Parents - we are having a Trike a Thon on Wednesday the 14th; our time is 10:00 a.m. so please bring your child's bike and helmet or scooter up to school on that day and put them in front of the school office on the grass. Thank you very much! It will be all of ECE and the 4 year olds start first.

FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Memory verse for Friday is Matthew 22:37 - You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. Ashley Engle is getting things ready and organized for our Fall Festival. Please see her FaceBook page on our 1st grade class page about ways that you can help. Please let her or myself know on a time that you can work our game. We are looking forward to our field trip next Tuesday to Rustic Roots Pumpkin Patch. Please be ready to leave at 8:50 from school. We will come down to the lobby area and meet you outside the front doors. Blessings on your week!

Next Wednesday, Oct. 14 will be the Trike-A-Thon. Kindergarten and 1st grade will be riding together at 10:00.

SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: What beautiful autumn weather! God is so good! Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Manning. We pray that God will bless your lives together. Thanks for inviting us to your wedding. This quarter is flying by. We have only 5 more school days to reach our first quarter AR goals. Several of our friends are reading at recess to be sure to reach their goals. The children may read AR books at home to test at school. Blessings!

THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: Well the end of the 1st quarter is quickly approaching. We have about a week left. Grades on FastDirect are up to date; please let me know if you have any questions. A.R. goals are due next week also. We have some kids who have made it and some who could use some time at home reading. If they can read a short book at home and come to school and take a test that would help out a lot. We will finish Ivan next week, and that is worth 4 points. This week: All New Testament books of the Bible are due. Spelling Test on Friday. One and Only Ivan test next Wednesday. We will watch the movie on Wednesday also, they may bring a snack, drink with a lid, and pillows and blankets. Math: Test yesterday and we will get one more in before the quarter is over. We will also move on to subtraction facts next week. Social Studies; We have finished our landform unit. Next week we will move on to a new unit about communities. Science: We are finishing up our animal projects this week. We will then present them and move on to a plant unit. If you want to see their animal’s project you are able to log in to Google Classroom to see it. Fall Festival: A note came home last week from our head room mom Mrs. Lauer about donating some money to help with the cost of our project. FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: This is the last full week before grades are finalized for the first quarter. Scholars should be reading their AR books nightly for success. The last day to make AR goals is October 15th. That is only a few days away, to make a goal that students helped to make. The SE State & Cap Test is the 21st after a long weekend. Fall Break is the 16th -19th of October. Look for the appointment sheet for Parent Teacher Conferences next week. Parent Teacher Conferences will be the week after fall break. FIFTH GRADE – Mrs. Schatte: Hasn't the cooler fall weather been a blessing?! I just love fall! Next Wednesday is our Outdoor Ed Day at my house. A note went home Monday concerning this field trip. Please send it back ASAP so I can plan appropriately for this day. We are looking forward to a fun, educational day. Any and all parents are welcome to join us for a short time or the day. We wish Miss Susie congratulations as she was married right here under the school bell at FLS on Monday. Blessings!

5TH GRADE SCIENCE – Mrs. Hanson: We used a LEGO activity to learn the importance of communicating clearly in science by writing and drawing building instructions for a structure we designed with our Legos. Next we will be doing an activity that helps us understand how scientists do their work and that they don't just make wild guesses to come up with some scientific explanations. We will also be taking a quiz soon over lesson one. We have done the review from the book, and have talked about all of the concepts in class, and have worked with all of the concepts outside of class, so we are ready to take a quiz over what scientists do.

MIDDLE SCHOOL Mrs. Scott: 5th Grade Math is working with fractions, division, and multiplication. We will have our next test after Lesson 25; tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, October 14th.

6R Math is working with decimals. This chapter requires time and some extra effort on the students’ part. Please help me encourage your student to slow down on their math homework and think through the steps to complete each problem.

6A/7R Math is working with data and statistics this week.

7A Math is continuing to work with solving equations and graphing. The class will be wrapping up Chapter 3 later this week and will have their Chapter 3 Test early next week.

8R Math wrapped up Chapter 2 earlier this week and has begun reviewing for Chapter 2 Test which will be THIS Thursday.

Mrs. Hanson: Sixth grade is moving on with the metric system learning more about each property of matter. We may still need help with how to convert metric units. If you are able to check in with your kid and make sure they understand how to go from one metric unit to another that would be great! We will have a vocab quiz and conversion quiz this Friday again.

7th grade has started their new chapter on rocks. We have done vocabulary and have started reading through the chapter and taking notes. We will be learning about the three types of minerals and how each form by doing some hands-on modeling of the three types. We will also have a vocab quiz this Friday over our new terms.

Eighth grade is working through macromolecules that make up all living things. We have tested for the presence of simple sugars in common foods. We will hopefully be wrapping this chapter up soon to take a test soon.

Ms. Kester: Has it really been two months already?? Well, we're shaking things up in History. Students are being the captains of their own ships with our Articles of the Week, as they now find and post ones that interest them and then respond to each other's articles. It's a great way to not only keep them abreast of a wider awareness of events going on in our world but also offers them another way to stay connected to one another! As for our next tests, we are pushing them back a bit to make room for our upcoming mock election. The students are excited and starting to work on every aspect of it. More information to come!

Religion classes are still jammin' through interesting and informative lessons. This week, 7 th graders are focusing on Abraham and 8th graders are studying the miracles of Jesus. The 6th graders are learning how Jesus smashed the power of sin and death while they apply the story of the Flood. I love all the interaction and intelligent engagement by the students and am excited about the many ways they will advance God's kingdom!

Lastly, to all the parents of my homeroom students, I'M LOOKING FOR YOU!! Actually, I'm looking for your Made-in-Oklahoma items! Annnnddd your offer to volunteer to help with our cake walk timeslots for our fast approaching Fallapalooza extravaganza! Keep us from being the only class to not deliver for this awesome event by responding to the e-mails from our heaven-sent room parent. She's waiting. And, the students and I are most appreciative of your time, effort, and contributions. Let me know if you have any questions.

We're heading into the final days of our first quarter, and then it's Fall Break! All classes will finish the quarter with an essay about the Boston Massacre. Every year, DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) sponsors an essay contest. This year the topic is the Boston Massacre.

We will be working on essays during class time and submitting them before we leave for Fall Break. Everyone is required to participate. Please remember...if you and your family are leaving early for Fall Break, please let your teachers know and hand in all assignments and/or take tests before you leave! That's it for now!
