Monster Mash will be Saturday, October 30 with Trunk-or-Treat from 4:00-6:00, Games from 6:00-7:30, dance (for all ages) 7:30 – 9:00. Costume Judging & Class Pumpkin winners announced at 8 p.m.

FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH AND SCHOOL 10TH ANNUAL CHRISTMAS MARKET OKLAHOMA FESTIVAL, scheduled for Saturday, December 4th, 2021, is rapidly approaching. If you would like to be a vendor or know someone who would like to participate, please call the church or school office or Shirley Zimmerman (580)761-4657, thank you!

BASKETBALL SEASON PASS: The first home basketball game will be November 30 versus the Saints. Save time at the gate and purchase your season pass now in the office; they are $20 for adults, $12 for Senior’s, and $12 for Students. (5 and younger, and Military/First Responders with I.D. are free).

FLS NEEDS YOU!: We need subs! Not every-single-day, but people who can save us when we have staff that get sick, have to leave with sick children, etc. We need subs for teachers, teachers’ aids, cafeteria, computer, etc. You can volunteer or be paid for subbing, and if you have plans the day we call, you can always say no. You can even specify what jobs or days you are available/not available and for which grades you will or won’t do. If you, and aunt, uncle, grandparent, etc. are willing to be on our sub list, please contact the office with their details.

INK & TONER RECYCLING: Help us keep your costs down! If you have a new or used ink or toner cartridge that you are done with, please send them with your student and the teachers will get them to the office. We recycle these and earn credit on the supplies that the school purchases each month. THANK YOU for your help with this!

Mr. Birnbaum: Did you know that Hallow's Eve is October 31? On November 1st the Christian Church remembers all the heavenly SAINTS. So it was considered a HOLY day (HOLiday) DAYCARE – Mrs. Vap: With the weather change, we still plan to go outside before, during, and after school.

Please make sure your child has shoes and a coat and that their name or initials is on the tag.

CAFETERIA – Ms. Lyons: The way the world is right now is strange! When I place my food order, sometimes I don't get what is on the menu. I make the menu early, so there might be last minute changes. I'm sorry for this but it can't be helped. I try hard to update the menu so please check online.

MUSIC – Mrs. Brey: Our Christmas program is quickly approaching! Mark your calendars for THURSDAY DECEMBER 9. Yes, this date is CHANGED from the previous one. Kindergarten, 1st grade, and Sunday School will sing a few songs at the start, and then 2nd-5th grade will participate in singing and speaking parts in our program.

LIBRARY – MRS. MANNING: Do you have any cookbooks laying around the house not in use? The kids love to look through them, and the few that we have are always checked out, and they are “hungry” for something new! If you would be willing to donate them, our students would appreciate it so much.

Now is a good time to look for overdue library books. If you have some that you're finished with, make sure to turn them in so that you're ready for the next quarter!

Next month is our Scholastic Book Fair. I need a couple of parent volunteers for our events! If you are interested in volunteering, please contact me via FastDirect or call the school.

In Computer we are finishing up our first quarter typing lessons.

In Art we have been working on collage, painting, and drawing!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Kelly: Thank you Student Council for the fun dress up days! Tomorrow is crazy/hat day, and Friday is costume day. This is the last week of October. Please turn your Book It reading calendar in by next Wednesday. Our costume party is on Friday; see the note in folders today. We will have Grandparents Day on Monday November 22nd. Look for the note in folders today and return the form by Wednesday so that we can plan for food. Our Bible words this week are, My times are in Your hand. Psalm 31:15 We are still on the letter cluster Pp,Tt,Ii and the number 4 this week. Have a Blessed week.

KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: This Friday will be our Fall/Halloween party at 2:30 pm and the kids can dress up for the event (no scary costumes and no parents at our party, sorry COVID). Also, the Monster Mash/Trunk or Treat is this Saturday the 30th from 4:00 to 9:00. Have a great Halloween week!

FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Memory verse for Friday is Psalm 23:2 - He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters. We are having fun dressing up for Red Ribbon Week. Thank you Student Council for the fun week! Friday is costume day, class party, and also Show and Tell. Our theme for this month is to bring your favorite stuffed animal. October Reading Logs for Book-It may be turned in on Friday to receive the Pizza Hut certificate. We will be starting a canned food drive for next month's chapel offerings. The competition for next week is girls verses boys. Thank you for bringing your items for the Monster Mash. If you have not done so yet, please bring them by Friday (girls - a bag of Smarties and boys - Gatorade). The schedule for Saturday evening is in the chatter. It’s going to be a fun evening - I hope to see you there!

SECOND GRADE – Ms. Felton: Happy Reformation and Halloween celebrations! Second grade did a lot of learning and experimenting this week with pumpkin clocks to tell time, catapult games with 3rd graders, and lots of great Halloween activities. Memory next week will be the Third Commandment on Tuesday and the Meaning on Friday. We are coming to the end of our water and snacks, so if anyone would like to donate water or snacks to our classroom, we’d be thankful! We are continuing to fill our board with Kindness Pumpkins, and we will test on our Doubles Plus 1 facts in math next week. AR goals have been reset for the second quarter, so be reading so that your child can take their AR tests on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday.

THIRD GRADE – Mrs. Steichen: Happy Halloween!! I cannot wait to see everyone in their costumes this week.

Please look on Facebook and check out all of the events coming up and please sign up to bring something for the party and a time to work our game at the Monster Mash. Thank you to Jamai for all her work this week getting everything together for us. This week: Memory (1st Commandment and meaning), Spelling, and Reading Test on Friday. Science: working on plants and a special pumpkin project. Social Studies: working on communities. Have a great Halloween and wonderful last week of October.

FOURTH GRADE – Mrs. Sibley: Thank you for the great conferences. It is truly a blessing when parents are involved for their students. We are at the beginning of a new quarter. This means new chances and opportunities to SHINE for JESUS! We have new AR goals. I can already see many kids REALLY determined to make this goal! Nightly reading is necessary for AR success. A new quarter also means a fresh start with grades. Please continue to help your children look at their assignments for their supported success, and check to make sure they are not having late work.

Continue to be blessed and praise the Lord as we are his workmanship.

5th Grade & Middle School BASKETBALL – Coach Amanda: Basketball- GAMES START THIS WEEK!! Varsity girls and boys will be traveling to Hillsdale Christian on Thursday. JV girls and boys will play in the Blackwell league on Sunday, November 7!

5th GRADE RELIGION – Mrs. Brey: I'm so proud of this fifth grade class- the whole class got 100% on their last memory work assignments two weeks in a row! My challenge for these kids is to keep getting full credit on all of the 10 commandment memory verses. On Friday, we have the sixth and seventh commandments due. th 6 – 8th MATH – Mr. McKinley: We are working on finding prime numbers, the greatest common factor, the least common multiple, and how this works with fractions.

SCIENCE – Mrs. Porter-Cain: I don't know about you all, but I am loving this fall weather!

This week is going to be busy!

5th Grade Science- we are working our way through Unit 6! Be prepared for a test next week!

6th Grade Science- we are learning all about Domains, Kingdoms and Classifications! They are catching on quickly!

7th Grade Science- working our way through Chapter 3- Maps and Mapping! We will test on MONDAY! 8th Grade Science- Looking toward the finish line of Chapter 3, Cell Structure! Test on MONDAY! 2nd-4th PE will be playing bucket baseball this week.

5th-8th PE will be working on basketball to be ready for the upcoming games!

LANGUAGE – Ms. Kester: Religion classes are in the book of Philippians, and creating an original song! I love the exuberance and creativity being displayed through this project, and ask that they work independently on the lyrics.

Your child's choice of presentation for this will take place between now and next Wednesday. I'm excited to hear their creations. Next week, the memory work will come from the passages inspiring their songs (Philippians 4:4-9); so, they will already have been exposed to the verses by that time.

Our first quizzes for this quarter's class/AR book took place Monday. We are on to the next set of chapters, which students will be quizzed on this coming Monday. Seventh grade is the exception, as they are engaging projects about the chapters instead of taking quizzes for this book; they will, however, take a unit test at the end of it.

Remember, reading logs that show minutes for both last week and this week (200 minutes total) are due tomorrow for sixth graders and Friday for all other grade levels, as sixth graders will be away for a fun trip October 29.

Also, sixth graders have definitions due Thursday. Enjoy the rest of the week, and be safe this weekend!

SOCIAL STUDIES – Mr. Brey: 5th Grade: We will continue on how the U.S. faced many problems as it began as a new nation in the late 1700s.

6th Grade: We will continue on Egypt through the next two weeks.

7th grade: We are going to start on world history, starting with a focus on the European continent to start.

8th Grade: Students are learning about federalism and the structures of our governments still. We will have a test on this early next week.
